The restaurant has such a cozy, homey feeling that makes it perfect for a relaxed family breakfast. The food is always good, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it just feels like one of those neighborhood places that has been part of the community forever. One of my favorite things is coming when the farmers market is outside. After breakfast, we can walk around Montclair, browse the market, and make a whole morning out of it. Some restaurants you love because of the food, and some become special because of the memories attached to them. For my family, the Montclair Egg Shop is definitely both.

I moved here 12 years ago from Maryland where they have baseball style lump crab cakes, so I have a prejudice. I rarely order crab. I really wanted it and it was quite satisfying. The crab cakes were adequate in a complete bite. Alone, some seasoning was off and cake was mostly filler. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the Hollandaise sauce was exactly what I wanted. All of this negative introduction does not make this a bad choice. In fact, everything was hot and delicious. My daughter had the huevos rancheros. She loved it. A very large portion. Also, I want to note that I made a request for crispier potatoes. I watched the chef work to do just that. Extremely accommodating. I would definitely return to try the corned beef hash!

We were in the area and I was looking for a breakfast place to eat…read more I am so glad I stop by Doyle Cafe. The service was nice and fast paced. The atmosphere was great too busy and delightful. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict, it was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were something I never had before. Absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you. Carla

The first review at the top of Doyle Street Cafe Yelp page proclaimed the "world's best pancakes"…read more That's what drew us here on an early Saturday morning. But we found this to not be true based upon our food travrl adventures elsewhere. Located right off a small street, Doyle Street named appropriately, there is a row of outdoor seating with some covered and some uncovered. Very cute. We chose to be seated indoors given it was an overcast and a chilly morning. We were immediately greeted and sat at a small two-person table. Service was swift and it was already a busy morning of breakfast goers. Prices are typical running in the $20 plus range. Breakfast selection is adequate but not extensive. We ordered the two pancake combo meal and the farmers omelette. All the food items including the pancakes, country potatoes and omelette were on the dense side and extremely savory, almost to the point where it would be dinner appropriate. While I mentioned service was swift, it definitely was not personable. We had requested sugar-free syrup for our pancakes and were met with a confused response. Our waitress proceeded to attempt to locate our request but never returned to give us an update. And we didn't bother to follow up. I wouldn't return for breakfast, however, if in a bind and I'm looking for a cute spot for a meal later in the day, I may return far into the future.
