The waitstaff outside asked me if I wanted to sit inside or outside and I can't stand the sun. It makes me ill so I sat inside. My drink is just water cause I don't do alcohol! I ordered the deviled eggs and the french toast! Deviled eggs were on point; the sauce that came with them was very good, also. I could only eat two of the five so a very nice gentlemen came over took the remaining three bagged them up and returned explained he had given me extra sauce. I don't get here often as I live in a different state, but it's always solid every time I drop in. We took advantage of the warm weather streak last week and ate on the patio. Everything about the experience was delightful. We each sampled a different cocktail and they were all excellent. I was happy to see so many vegan/vegetarian options that were also super healthy. I had the power salad and shared the shaved brussels sprouts with my sister. The brussell sprouts were outstanding. So many places deep fry their shaved brussel sprouts until they're unrecognizable. These were green and crisp and so delicious! The power salad was also good, though I wish it had more chickpeas. They were a little sparse. Today was my first time trying this restaurant and I was not pleased with the salad I was given. The male staff /Host was friendly. I ordered a Caesar salad which was about $17. The lettuce was warm, the dressing was good. Some of the lettuce had start turning brown and the crotons were burnt. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper just to get past the abnormal taste of the salad. I didn't bother sending it back because they were super busy. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Townhouse Birmingham looked like a cafe in Paris last night. I love the summer vibe! We sat on the patio and ordered drinks and food to share. Our server was awesome and took great care of us. I tried the private plane which was fabulous! We also got the heart to heart which had Bell's two hearted ipa in it. So good! We shared the Haloumi cheese app, it was so satisfying with the salty cheese and tart strawberries and herby sauce! It was perfect to share as it had two large pieces of cheese. We also shared the vegan burger which was a vegan Big Mac on steroids! Caramelized onions, two patties, cheese, brioche bun and house made thousand island. Delicious! (Ask for an extra side of dressing for the win!). Sandwiches come with your choice of fries or kale Tabbouleh. We opted for the tabbouleh, which was lemony and delicious. We also shared the roasted carrot side which was a large portion of sweet, perfectly roasted carrots in a bed of delicious tahini sauce and toasted pistachios. It was perfection! This is one of our regular spots - a short walk from our house in Birmingham. In the past, my wife and I would split a burger and fries, and each get a cocktail. Consistently good. Tonight we were celebrating her birthday, so our 2 teen daughters joined us. My wife and one daughter split steak fritte. They ordered it Medium Plus - came out just this side of well done. Fortunately it was a filet so it was still tender and flavorful, despite being overcooked. My other daughter ordered the Korean Chicken. While it was nice tender white meat, and reasonably tasty, it was a far cry from the many yummy versions of Korean Chicken I've had in the past. This was more like 3 very large, very American chicken tenders, with a dipping sauce and slaw. And I know this may be heresy in this country of overeaters, but the portion was WAY too big for anyone with a reasonable appetite to finish. When there's too much food on a plate, it loses a lot of its appeal for me. My daughter ate half of one tender and that was all she could manage. The biggest disappointment was my meal. I had two appetizers - the crispy shrimp tacos and buffalo cauliflower. The shrimp were over-battered, with a thick, breaded coating. Fried foods should light, crispy, super hot with whatever is underneath tender and juicy. Not this version - the tacos were heavy, dense, and more a full meal (albeit a poor one) than an appetizer. I managed one. The cauliflower was described in the menu as crispy. In fact it was undercooked, so a bit too hard and chewy, and without the crispy exterior I was expecting. Th buffalo sauce coating was fine - not bad but very routine and not unique. The fries that came with my wife's steak were hot and crisp. The extra order I got for me and my 2nd daughter were luke warm and chewy, not crispy outside and light and soft inside, like a fresh batch from McD's or Hunter House . It was clear that this was a batch that had been sitting around under the lights for a bit. The third strike for me was the price. I'm happy to actually overpay for great food, that's well thought out, carefully prepared, and served fresh and hot. Tonight cost $225. Way too much for too much food - very little of it very good. On a good note, the service was attentive and friendly. And all of our drinks (one martini for my wife, one glass of Prosecco for me, and Shirley Temples for my daughters, were all excellent.) read more

Birmingham is the original spot for Townhouse and there is also one in Detroit. I had no idea what to expect, even though I had been to the one in Detroit. There is a large outdoor area but the inside is relatively small. It was a gorgeous day so the restaurant is wide open to the outside. I always love this type of place. We sat up at the bar, but felt like we were outside. We had an amazing bartender who took the time to explain everything to us. Townhouse is a bourbon and whiskey bar. They have other options, but their selection of other types of liquor is very limited. We had fun looking at all the different types of bourbon they offer. I don't know too much about bourbons so I enjoyed learning about them. There were some bourbon's that were $1,500 a pour. Dang! To be that rich! The bartender said that a lot of professional athletes come in and they order the expensive stuff. Apparently, a lot of these bourbons are tough to get. The restaurant is well known to distributors so they are able to get the hard to find ones. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails there. We didn't eat but the food looked and smelled delicious.
