    Me!
    Natasha V.

On my second visit to Townhouse in Birmingham, Michigan, what continues to resonate is the quiet confidence of the experience. From the moment you arrive, the restaurant feels composed and intentional, guided by a team that understands both rhythm and restraint. The staff are warm and attentive, but it is Manager Justin and the bartender who truly set the cadence of the room. Together, they keep everything moving effortlessly, creating an atmosphere that feels polished yet deeply welcoming. Justin, unmistakably a favorite among locals, guided us toward memorable entrées and desserts with an ease that speaks to both expertise and genuine care. The food unfolds with equal assurance. The cheesesteak sandwhich and fries arrive as elevated comfort--thinly sliced steak, richly seasoned and properly prepared on a delicious bun, paired with truffle fries that are crisp on the outside and tender within. It's indulgent without excess, familiar yet thoughtfully refined. The steak frites follows the same philosophy: a precisely cooked steak, tender and flavorful, accompanied by classic golden fries that feel essential rather than ornamental. A previous visit introduced us to the seared salmon sitting on a bed of succotash, a dish defined by restraint and technical grace. A lightly crisped top gives way to a buttery, beautifully cooked interior--moist, rich, and balanced. It's the kind of preparation that allows the quality of the fish to speak for itself. One standout worth calling out on its own is the succotash. Packed with sweet, tender corn and layered with savory depth, it was vibrant, comforting, and exceptionally well balanced. Simply put, it's the best succotash I've ever had--the kind of side dish that quietly steals the spotlight. Dessert lingers pleasantly in memory. The chocolate chip cookie is everything it should be: warm, softly structured, and deeply comforting without tipping into sweetness overload. Simple, nostalgic, and perfectly judged. The bar experience deserves its own quiet praise. Each visit included a beautifully composed mocktail--balanced, nuanced, and crafted with the same care and intention as any classic cocktail. It's clear that thoughtful drinking, with or without alcohol, is taken seriously here. Note, we also tried a lovely wine the last visit. The interior strikes a graceful balance between hip and classy--sleek, well appointed, and effortlessly current. The dress code follows suit: business casual or casual sleek, whatever feels natural in a space that never tries too hard. Outside, the building reflects Birmingham's historic downtown character, with an early-20th-century commercial façade--clean lines, strong proportions, and timeless detailing--adapted seamlessly for modern dining while honoring its architectural roots. Street parking was plentiful on both visits, likely aided by our later-than-dinner timing. Yelp Tip: Ask for Justin, the Manager who is always there. He is a true gentleman, extremely hospitable, effortlessly keeping the room flowing and the experience elevated from start to finish. Townhouse offers consistency, warmth, and understated excellence in its staff. It's a restaurant that invites return visits--not for novelty, but for the quiet pleasure of ordering something you already know you'll love and the familiar faces you will see. We'll absolutely be back.

    "Brunch for ONE"

Stopped in for Brunch this early afternoon. Wasn't my first choice as next door only had bar seating. (I wanted the window view for ONE) Anyhow we don't always get our way! I ordered the GOAT & Egg Benedict! Both were tasty! Service was great.

Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Truffle Fries

Th place was clean and decorated super nice. The waiter was super nice as well. The chicken sandwich was good and crispy. The sauce was nice and the fries were good. The french toast was the perfect amount of sweetness. The mac and cheese was wayyyy too cheesy. It needed some spice to balance it out. The cookies were super good as well. Only issue is that it was super expensive for decent food.

Loved the location and venue set up- perfect for a sunny day. Large windows with indoor/outdoor seating as well as a patio. Went for lunch/appetizers and was delicious. Enjoyed Greeks salad, shrimp, carats, and chicken/waffles. Really loved the shrimp and burrata. You could tell quality of ingredients was great and overall presentation was beautiful. Service was great and we really enjoyed the time. Overall recommend

I don't get here often as I live in a different state, but it's always solid every time I drop in. We took advantage of the warm weather streak last week and ate on the patio. Everything about the experience was delightful. We each sampled a different cocktail and they were all excellent. I was happy to see so many vegan/vegetarian options that were also super healthy. I had the power salad and shared the shaved brussels sprouts with my sister. The brussell sprouts were outstanding. So many places deep fry their shaved brussel sprouts until they're unrecognizable. These were green and crisp and so delicious! The power salad was also good, though I wish it had more chickpeas. They were a little sparse. My companions enjoyed their meals (which had meat in them) as well, though I did not get details. This is just a lovely restaurant that I highly recommend when in downtown Birmingham.

Had brunch at Townhouse and loved it! The service was super quick, and the place was nice and quiet. The food was delicious, and the lemonades were unique and refreshing. You wanna try one for sure! Definitely coming back:)

    Caesar

Today was my first time trying this restaurant and I was not pleased with the salad I was given. The male staff /Host was friendly. I ordered a Caesar salad which was about $17. The lettuce was warm, the dressing was good. Some of the lettuce had start turning brown and the crotons were burnt. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper just to get past the abnormal taste of the salad. I didn't bother sending it back because they were super busy. Definitely won't be returning.

    Date Night

Food was great!! I had the buffalo cauliflower and the Date Night Salad with blackened chicken. Chef's kiss! Our server was polite and helpful. We sat outside on the perfect day. Patio was a nice vibe. We'll be back!

Popped in for lunch and it was a win!! Great service by Devin and delicious food!! Easy to grab a table and food came out very quick. The chicken and waffle was extra delicious.. the honey butter made the waffle almost not need syrup. And the chicken was absolutely amazing -- moist and well seasoned. Will definitely return.

    Thin Crispy Chicken Sandwich

Usually when I come here to get favorite item, it's delicious.. however yesterday it was extremely disappointing. I ordered a chicken sandwich and when it arrived it looked like two pieces of hard crispy nothingness... when I bit into it; it was hard and cold. No chicken to really be found at all, my money went down the drain.

Sticking with the overall 3 rating. Avenue is amazing, I stayed because of the playlist yet, I felt I needed to pay extra for my water. Average price per person is 30+ Overpriced for the portion sizing. 9 dollar truffle fries that are about 4-6oz (kids small cup) Drinks are the best thing here for the money although, can have the same drinks in royal oak with better quality (motor city gas, Tom's oyster, etc) The vegan burger is 24 bucks, ridiculous even if it's two Pattie's, the normal burger is the same price for a single patty? With caramelized onions and cheese. (Twirls finger) Idk it's overhyped but, if I (had) to pay for atmosphere.. it fits the bill.

My matcha latte was pretty mid -- not a coffee shop so I wouldn't necessarily expect anything incredible but it could have been hotter, at least. The frittata was very good and a generous portion -- I took part of it home for later. The pistachio pesto sauce really adds to it. I'd return to try more of their brunch menu (or others) without complaint -- why not!?

I do want to start with some thoughts before I give the highlights. We were charged a percent for using a credit card. I cannot speak to the in-person menu, but I combed the online menu and it did not mention that. We were also charged for ranch. Most places do not do that, and we were not informed there would be an upcharge. Most places allow you a sauce to go with fries. Also, for my meal, there is an image of an extra sauce which it did not come with, but we were charged for two small portions of ranch. Last, the server was just okay. I always enthusiastically ask questions to get to know more about a place. I asked if they had any other fruity drinks. She pointed to the drink menu and indicated just the Paloma. I said, but you have a full bar, this is the only fruity drink you make? She did not want to ask the bar, but I asked her to. The bar apparently only came up with one other drink idea, which I ended up getting two drinks listed on the menu (both very good) but it seemed like work for her to go out of her way to inquire. I also bet they could have made many fruity drinks, like maybe a Mai Tai, or some equivalent. Oh well. On the other hand, the Paloma was actually very good. It was a quality Paloma and I do recommend. Their other drink was seasonal with lavender, also a very nice drink. Most of the other places, like Honcho, I have no problem with getting a variety of drinks or inquiring about them, and the bar tender here did a great job. I came here because I was targeted by an ad on Instagram. This place was not on my radar, but since they created a meal (Steak-frites) very similar to Le Relais in Paris and New York, etc... I wanted to try it. It came with bottomless parm fries. The fries were crispy, savory, and delightful. The steak was super well cooked and was like butter. You did not even need a knife, it cut with a fork. Since I love next day leftovers, the steak was still super delicious and tender the next day. It was still like butter and cut with a fork. I would absolutely come back for that and bring the rest of my family. We also tried the tri-tip sandwich. We were told the bread was made fresh. I thought it was very good and very tender. My husband would have liked an au jus or horseradish sauce. He would try the hamburger next, but I would love another steak-frites, like right now! We were sad the coffee and pastry section closed early. In the past, at Honcho, we would get coffee and pastry after dinner since their coffee tends to be really good and quality. I would consider coming for brunch to try some. We talked to a gentleman who was part of the business as he was working hard. He was very kind and knowledgeable and took the time to hear our thoughts. I told him I was here for the steak. He thought I had a "but". I did not, it was great and I hope they can maintain that price point and the second serving of fries, because that was my main reason for visiting. He let us know the menu recently changed. I am not able to compare since this was my first time, but I liked that they had a steak dinner and pizza. If we come back my oldest loves this group's pizza, she gets it at Vinsetta, and this one looked very good.

I've tried this place three different times and ALL three times I had an issue. It was a waste of my gas to drive to Sidecar in Birmingham to eat and everything was a disaster from the moment I was seated. I have passed by Sidecar in Birmingham so many times, and strolled past it more occasions than I can count. I have always avoided the place because there is always someone inside of it who is racist and anything but professional. This corniest thing about management here is that it seems to train workers to only like it when whites sit at their eatery. Be sure to hold onto to a copy of your receipt if you wish to be refunded for the unpleasant blah-slop they will serve you. The food here looked like someone sat on it when I bought it, and it was flavorless from started to finish. Honestly, I was skeptical about coming here based on reviews and I wish I had listened to the complaints. One waitress was apologetic to me when I came back to complain, so sad for her because she was not the owner of this dump who has the personality of a headless turkey. The food is worth only one star, but I would give it zero if I could. I'd recommend just going to Applebee's instead of Sidecar and maybe the place that Sidecar is holding can be repurposed into some type of mixed-use community hub to breathe new life into Birmingham once it gets shut down. - Oakley
