Having lived here several years ago, and moving back to the east cost(Covid) and now coming back to the bay...I stopped by Tower to check out apartment options and I was completely mind blown! I have always loved this place and the 5 years I spent here were some of the best! But the current property manager(Samantha) and maintenance manger(Brian) far exceed my very high expectations (I know....but I cant help it!)... I was met with hugs form both when I came in the front door, and as we walked the property it truly felt like coming home... Everything about this place is exceptional, the location..across the street from the beach, next door to the shopping center, bowling alley...and bay trail. Every detail of this property has been thought out and is perfection, the updates Samantha and team have made are stunning, from the club house to the lobby, and even the pool area! Being in hospitality management for the past 30 years, the one thing you wish you could teach people is how to love what they do, and to be passionate, however this is up to the individual... it is clear from my interactions and the condition of the property that the tower team under Samantha's leadership not only love what they do, but are proud of their property. We moved to Tower this last September, sight unseen from an overseas move. We found from our online search that Tower was cleaner than most and had all the amenities that we wanted - including direct proximity to the beach and nearby stores. When my family and I arrived, Samantha & Brian were there from the get-go to make our move-in go smoothly and seamlessly. Sam is/has always been responsive and warm towards everyone & Brian has promptly assisted with minor things such as switching out a bulb, etc. They are a dynamic duo, hard-working, and really deserve kudos for what they do day in/day out. You can really tell that they love what they do~! With all the upgrades made in the last few months, the residence is clean, secure, and a great place to live. The exterior renovation was recently completed and looks amazing. The hallway carpets were steam cleaned. All the washer/dryers were replaced. Our two-bedroom is fairly large, the kitchen is where I spend most of my time and I love that it is updated with modern fixtures. The balcony is also spacious and faces the beautiful outdoor heated pool. There is also a community-use grill and a nice seating area next to the pool. The clubhouse can be reserv1ed for events. The gym is small but has decent equipment. The residence is surprisingly quiet and the events (i.e. Eggstravaganza (Easter egg hunt), Super Bowl party, raffles, Toys for Tots drive, etc.) have been great for the family. Love that you can reserve the clubhouse for events (in non COVID times). I have lived here for two years. I love this place. It is much larger than most apartments you'll find Alameda. The only reason I am moving out is that I can no longer afford the rent. Pros: * The manager of the apartments, Samantha, is fantastic. She is very good at responding quickly to requests, and is very friendly and efficient. I couldn't for anything more in an apartment manager. * Repairs are promptly addressed and updates are frequently provided for repairs in the entire building. * The apartment I rented, a two bedroom apartment, is very spacious. I looked at several other two bedroom apartments before finding this one. All the others were OK, but as soon as I entered this one, I felt immediately at home and comfortable. * There is a very large balcony with a nice view of the bay. Enough room for plenty of plants, a table, and a few chairs. Even space for my dog to sit and hang out. * The swimming pool is great and they have nice lounge chairs around the pool. For the first few months, I felt like I was living in a vacation resort! * The building has this great service where all you have to do is place your recycling outside your door every night and it magically is emptied out! * The walls and floors are solid, so I rarely hear noise from my neighbors. * Most of the residents are quite friendly. Lots of families with kids. * Great location. Right across from the beach, and less than a 10 minute walk to super markets and other stores at S. Shore Center. * It is within the zoning needed if you have a child needing to attend Alameda High School or Lincoln Middle School. * Modern fixtures in the kitchen and modern bathroom sink / counter. Cons * The bathroom showers and bathtubs in the unit were old and funky. It was unfortunate they didn't replace them when they replaced the sinks and counters in the bathrooms. * The gym in the building was also old and funky. I never used it, and I don't think anybody in the building does. * The rent became too high for me. At the end of the first year it increased from $3000 per month to $3300 per month. At the end of the second year, it would have increased to $3600 per month. If that's within your budget, this is a great place to live, and please let me know if they are hiring wherever you work! read more

A great place to call home. Complex is very quiet and is in a great location. The apartments are very spacious and remodeled inside which I loved. My 1 bedroom was freshly painted before I moved in and looked liked no one had occupied the space previously. Samantha was great with a very smooth move in process and was in touch every step of the way. When it came to a couple work orders I needed for minor things they were fixed within 24 hours. Also just a quick 5 minute walk to South Shore shopping area. Definitely check this place out!!! read more

This place does not deserve even one star! Our rent was $2,400/month and they had just completed these supposed upgrades. Well, turns out they are too cheap to provide the proper amount of circuits for their appliances. We could not use our kitchen for the firs 2 weeks of living there. Finally, someone came over to fix it, which involved them ripping out a portion of the living room ceiling. This is an important thing to keep in mind as I will explain below. I've been a resident at Tower for almost 4 years. Overall the city of Alameda has no really nice apartments. So, for the area, this is one of the better places. Unfortunately you settle and accept a lot of the short-comings of Tower Apartments because there just isn't much else to chose from in Alameda. Tower Apartments needs a face lift - exterior, common areas and the apartments that are not upgraded. Pros: 1. apartment size and layout are good. dedicated parking space. 2. Friendly and helpful maintenance manager (Matt). 3. Good security (all outside doors require a key). 4. great location (down the street from the beach), and if your apartment faces the water - you have a pretty view). Cons: 1. on-site gym is in a creepy location in the basement garage - looks like a dungeon (no windows at all). And only a few pieces of equipment. 2. washer and dryers aren't clean, plus washing machines don't work very well (i.e. after washing, not all of your close will be wet.) 3. You have to pay for a card washing card, then pay to wash and dry your clothes. 4. In the upgraded apartments, the bathroom shower have not been upgraded - so it looks a bit grimy. 5. Windows are old so lots of wind come through and windows rattle on windy days. 6. Balcony - has bad looking carpet and peeling paint (it looks grundgy) 7. common areas do not match the "upgraded" apartments - stains, cobwebs, and trash around mail box area. 8. A doggie community (which I like dogs, but...) urine and doggie poo droppings found in common areas (and since many of the areas are carpeted - the smell is soaked in.) 9. Movers tend to use the MAIN elevator (they are to use the service elevator) - so guests are stuck taking the stairs or walking to the back elevator. 10. Things have to FULLY break-down for them to fix them. For example, there have been many occasions when I woke up to find there is no hot water. Finally the water heater could not be repaired and THEN they got a new one - haven't had a morning without hot water since. A purchase of a new one should have occurred sooner. As it was a major inconvenience for me and I'm sure the other residents who were getting ready for work in the morning. And now our elevator has broken. It was a old elevator and did not work properly to begin with. But it's been broken for about 3 months. 11. We are directly across from the bird reservation area - so on occasion it smells REALLY bad! Considering the other options in the area - I would give it a 4 star. But for my standards.... It's a 2. If that's makes sense.. LoL! read more

The tower manager is super nice, from the few times that I've interacted with her, and the facility and space is very nice. I was so excited in advance to see the IBR apartment that was listed as available. I scheduled an appointment for today from 11-12. I received a confirmation email from the manager advising she would be on the tour with me. To my surprise, no one called or emailed and no one showed up for the appointment. Besides me! I moved to the Tower apartments about 3 months ago. I made a quick decision to rent the apartment site unseen since it wasn't ready to be viewed yet. I was nervous about that decision but have not regretted it one moment! I have moved so much in my life and I can honestly say this is the first time I've felt at home. My nieces and nephews have all been here as well and have given it two thumbs up. :-) The apartments are huge and the ability to open up all the windows and feel the bay breeze is amazing. My husband and I lived at The Tower for 13 years and basically raised our son here. The location is amazing and it is a great place for anyone! The community is very diverse including families with babies, school age children, seniors living on their own, young couples, older couples, some individual tenants... and plenty of dogs! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. In all of our years we have never had a problem with anyone. The building is old but the apartments are large and comfortable - many have been renovated and are beautiful. We used the clubhouse and pool for many family celebrations over the years and it has recently been renovated. There is also a small gym which was very convenient and made for no excuse not to exercise! The property has gone through a few managers over the years but the current management and maintenance are the best we've experienced. Samantha and Brian and very professional and take care of business immediately if you have a problem. Samantha is constantly doing something fun and festive things even before the pandemic started. We have had virtual painting, blanket drives for the homeless, raffles with cash prizes (one of which I won $500 by the way!) and she decorates the lobby for every holiday making it nice to come to home to after a long day. There has not been a problem that Brian the maintenance manager has not been able to fix - he has been in this line of work for many years and can tell you what is wrong with your dishwasher, fridge, sink etc. within minutes and before you know it, it is fixed or replaced. They are both incredibly friendly and have positive attitudes which was so nice during the darkest days of 2020. I highly recommend living at the Tower and was sorry we had to leave during the best management ever but our son went off to college and we needed to downsize to a smaller place in a different city. We will miss Samantha and Brian and wish them the best and hope they continue to make The Tower a wonderful community for its residents! read more

I've lived at Tower for 9 months now. It had been a long while since I had experienced true "apartment living" (since the 90s) and I wasn't sure how our family, including 2 teenage boys!, would adjust to it after living in free-standing homes for many years. However, we really loved the public schools for our kids. Lincoln Middle School and Alameda High School are excellent beyond words and difficult to transfer to from other addresses. There wasn't much that was relatively "affordable" and also pet-friendly and also with multiple bedrooms **and bathrooms** -- must haves for families with children, right? -- in the attendance area, especially in Lincoln Middle's. It didn't look too promising for us until we saw Tower Apartment's ad on Craigslist, literally the answer to our prayers. Our 2 bed/2 bath apartment is HUGE! 50% more square footage compared to others in the same price range I had looked at on the island (800-900 square feet? No can do!). Closets are supersized (the length of an entire wall in each room) with floor to ceiling sliding doors that really maximize the storage space. AND we get another storage area down the hall (our unit's is right next door). We moved in from a 4-bedroom house with a 2-car garage and didn't need to get rid of nearly as much as I had anticipated. Most importantly, the MONEY we needed to put down up front was a fraction of what the larger management companies were asking. It was hard to believe! Gallagher Lindsey had required almost four times as much and kept almost all of it when we moved out. When I say pet friendly... Tower takes pet friendly to a whole nuther level and will pay for your adoption costs. Need me to say that again? That commitment to "good will" really comes through in everything the management does and says. The tone of kindness and community permeates throughout, evidenced in the community gatherings (i.e. BBQs) they host at the pool's clubhouse more often than quarterly. Not to mention, the communications from Management that are gracious and clear, as a rule, even about infractions, with diligent follow up until compliance is achieved. The onsite maintenance is above and beyond anything I've witnessed. His attitude borders on saintliness all the while covering any issue, 24/7 it seems. He is everywhere. You can always catch him on site and he receives it all with friendliness and professionalism. I don't know how he does it, frankly. We have really felt at home in our new digs. Enjoying the amenities of apartment living; the trash chute (nice!) and valet that picks up every night from our door is handy. The fitness room leaves a little to be desired, i.e. the treadmill has never worked. However, the convenience of having it downstairs makes it useful even so. And honestly, that issue is easily remedied if enough people asked for it -- clearly they haven't. Why run on a treadmill inside when the shoreline is a few steps away!? All this with a very down to earth, community culture and feel? We couldn't ask for our family, frankly. Add the amazing public schools to that list of benefits -- it's really the best of many worlds. All of that said, I can see how some folks might complain about the imperfections here and there. Maybe money and public schools aren't huge on their list of needs. Maybe they aren't as pet friendly as many of us. As for me, I'd prefer Tower to any others I've seen, to be honest, even if my kitchen counters aren't granite and my balcony could use some better flooring. Even as I write that, I know changes / upgrades are in the work.. I simply can't believe how responsive this management is! They want us to be happy, if at all possible, that much is clear. The bicycle issue is a big one in my opinion (mine was just stolen from my parking space in the garage). However, I know they are working hard on solving that issue and many of us tenants are on board with being a part of the solution. Despite the losses to property, it hasn't dissolved into an "us vs them" relationship at all. Someone actually cares and is doing whatever they can about it. To me, that's worth its weight in gold. Much more valuable to me than a bicycle, frankly. When I saw KTVU's spot last week on the Alameda Shoreline and how many folks come to visit from all over the East Bay, televising a vista I had just enjoyed and photographed earlier that evening, walking my dog along the shore at sunset! Once you select a place to stay, the caliber of the staff has so much to do with whether it was a good choice or not. Been living at Tower Apts. in Alameda for two years. Absolutely love it! The place is clean, thanks to Matt. He is also always prompt and thorough in dealing with maintenance requests. Samantha, the property manager, is available and helpful for any questions/concerns ...and always with a smile! Having the beach across the street doesn't hurt! I made a good choice. We'd been living at the Towers since 1994 until we moved at the end of Nov. 2018. So we've seen many changes to the building, management, and apartments. When we moved into the place, we had the apartment on the 3rd floor, facing the Tropic Sands Apartment building. The view was not the best and it got very hot for 1-2 weeks in the summers because of poor air flow. All the windows face in one direction and we had to keep the front door open for ventilation. The other times of the year was ok, being Alameda, one doesn't have or need air conditioning. Then in 2001, because of renovation to our apartment and being asked to move, we asked and got an apartment on the 2nd floor facing the pool. Since we had a west exposure, it was cooler and a better view. Over the years, management changed, some ok, some better than ok. Currently, Samantha and Matt are very responsive to residents' needs and concerns. The location of the building is wonderful: close to shopping center and bus stops, the town of Alameda is historic and very comfortable place to live. We were only 3 miles from work so moving was not convenient to us until we retired. One fact I grew to hate about Alameda was the growing rent prices and that included the ideal location of the Tower Apartments. We were fortunate to have rent control in the town, only 5% increase per year. It's still too much for us being on a fixed income and with the yearly increases. If you have a great job and can afford the rent, it's a good place to live. Keep in mind that the building was built in 1968, has 2 old fashion elevators, a closet size exercise room in the garage, but also has good security on front and back entries, an underground secured parking garage with one space per apartment, 2 washer/2 driers on each of the 4 floors and they are in the process of renovating empty apartments. Security is important and not every place is 100% secure since it depends on the residents doing their part of not keeping doors open or letting people they don't know in the building. But for the most part, I felt safe in my apartment. The people living there are very friendly especially Sam and Matt. read more

The apartments have amazing ocean views and many are newly renovated with very nice upgrades including granite counters, wood cabinets,stainless steel appliances and wood laminate flooring. They are very clean and well lit. I moved to the Tower after a horrible experience with Gallagher & LIndsay in Alameda. Definitely skip over the property management companies and go for the Tower. Although these apartments are located right on the regional Bay Shore trail, there is no secure bike parking provided by this complex and the lease agreement says bicycles cannot be stored on your balcony. Sequoia Management doesn't allow bikes on balconies at any of their properties! And our planet is overheating from too much carbon in the air from car exhaust! The rent here must be the most expensive on the island at $3,500 a month for 2 bedrooms, 2 baths! The elevator has been broken for months now. I don't think it's worth it. Can't wait to move out to less expensive digs. The manager and maintenance man are nice though. read more

The Towers used to be a wonderful place to live...Unfortunately it has gone to Hell in a hand basket very quickly! Their motto is "Where your experience matters" and that used to be true. The previous manager Brittany truly cared about her residents, She lived in the community and her experience was our experience. Since she has left and the new manager has been here it has gone down hill at a rapid pace. She does not live in the community and it is obviously just a pay check for her. I recently came home from vacation to find a note posted on my door...It read: Dear Tower Residents, We (funny you would include yourself...YOU don't live here) are experiencing a high level of vandalism in the Tower common areas. Damages include: -repeated (human) urination in the rear elevator -ripped done postings and signage -destroyed permanent signage (fire exit plans, etc) -abandoned feces in the hallways -graffiti it then ask for us to contact "management" if we witness these acts. These acts are borne out of sheer frustration and are passive/aggressive manifestations of not being heard or having needs met by said management. She signed the letter...Tower Management. She also failed to mention the thefts that have taken place that the residents are posting in the common areas that are not being addressed. I slipped and almost fell due to oil not being taken care of in the garage last month and went down today and almost did it again because it has not been addressed. I truly don't even know her name...I have never seen it in writing! It's something like Awett...Odett something like that. Since she has arrived the main elevator has been down...the first communication she has made about it to us residents was September 12th. That is at least two months of no communication and a building full of very frustrated residents and even then it was vague and matter of fact. She only cares about the bottom line and obviously hasn't figured out that having a rapport and compassion with the residents goes a long way in keeping a sustainable bottom line....Living here has become a nightmare. the only pleasant thing is the view and Matt our maintenance man. I truly feel for him because her lack of compassion has created more work for him just trying to clean up the messes. It is a shame that she only cares about her paycheck and doesn't realize that there is a human side to the job. Xavier is the worst manager the tower has ever had since we moved here over 10 years ago. He is extremely lax with security resulting in a number of thefts recently. Additionally he has no concern with leaving gates open or doors propped with move ins and repairs for hours at a time. He is very indifferent to tenants concerns including being rude and trying to be intimidating. However, Matt the maintenance worker deserves 5 stars. He has picked up the slack left by the manager and goes over the top in addressing tenants concerns. read more

Love the people, love the staff, love the place. My husband and I moved here a little over a year ago to a one bedroom-one bath and we were both surprised at how spacious it was. Matt the maintenance guru is seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met and great at what he does. Samantha in the office is a doll, very down to earth and has been so gracious working with us. We were blessed to jump into one of the bigger apartments that face the water and... wow! We recently looked at the Tower Apartments for our 80 plus year old parents who are moving here from Arizona. By far, the Tower apartments are the nicest apartments we saw on Shoreline and on Bay Farm Island as well. They have more of a condo feel in terms of quality of appliances, fixtures, layouts. The Bay views are stunning and the patios from which you may enjoy these views create another room! Yes, they are that big. Brittany (the manager) could not have been more helpful, kind and accomodating to my inlaws and helped them feel that they would be well taken care of should needs arise. Her follow through was excellent! This is a lovely place that puts you in an area of Alameda that takes advantage of its many wonderful characteristics, like the beach , city views, and proximity to shopping and restaurants. I lived at Tower Apartments for a little over three years. The obvious issues is that the building needs renovating and the windows get a bit noisy in the winter. I have no other complaints. I loved living at Tower. I had the pleasure of meeting two previous manager plus the most recent manager Xavier who is extremely articulate, helpful and very respectful. I also cant leave out Matt who was always available to fix any issues I had around the house. Xavier is a hard worker and besides babysitting the lazy smokers who cant walk 20 feet outside the building to smoke he and Matt arrange for Holiday Festivities, movie nights including voting day and Arms accross the beach day. Tower apartments advertises as upgraded and upscale with some beach views and the price to go with it. However the management doesn't seem to keep up with cleaning the halls and elevator and the laundry rooms. The laundry rooms continually have machines broken that the management doesn't seem to follow up with, but gives the residents the phone number of the laundry fix it company, as if it's not their responsibility. They advertise having a gym, but it is so small and in the back of the garage, making it laughable. Then the company raises the tenant cost of utilities whenever they want, no matter what the lease says. The location is nice, but the management really needs to have more respect for the tenants and the amount of rent they are paying. read more

However, the location, views, and the staff (Awet and Matt) who are on site and are both super helpful, friendly, professional and timely with any issues that may arise make it well worth it! I have lived at The Tower Apartments for approximately 8 years and have been through several management staff. Awet has made great changes since coming on board several months ago, and Matt is an asset to have on board. Awet seems to care about the complex and tries to ensure the common areas are kept tidy; others would send out notices but Awet seems to make a difference in ensuring everyone is doing their part to keep the premises clean. The cost in Alameda rents is going up all over and I do not know where the ceiling will end, but would not want to have to leave for being priced out of the market.
