Have had the opportunity to visit with a family member living at "The Lodge" a few times. The Lodge is beautifully located on the coast of Alameda and across from Corica golf course, prime location. Her/his new "home" has the look and feel that is a blend of modernization yet country. While everything appears more than perfect, my family member personal items (clothing) have been stolen more than once. She/he is also disappointed in the security, food and personal care. I understand it is hard to maintain a large, private resident facility; however, the amount they pay to live here should provide a safe environment. read more

My Mother is a resident at "The Lodge" as only the residents can call it, going on 2.5 years now. It is a tonic of activities, shared experiences and wonderful caring people who run all things behind the scenes! On any given day, there are educational activities, exercise classes, book clubs, art classes, daily movies, bingo, 3 meals a day that are delicious and well balanced & a caring nursing staff who seamlessly help each resident that needs it with medications, bumps & bruises and all things involving general well being. My Mother had a recent health scare and the support of the Nursing staff was above and beyond what I thought was possible. The significant care and concern was like she had her family caring for her. Miraculous Healing Community! This is a long overdue review for the exceptional staff and community at Waters Edge Lodge. We moved my friend from another facility to Waters Edge in late June. It has literally transformed her life!! From my first conversations with Michael Perrilliat, the Community Living Specialist for AEC properties, to the move into the facility, to our friend's present happy and contented life at Waters Edge Lodge, the level of genuine caring and concern for residents and their families is apparent, and never wavers. The level of caring and community goes well beyond what would be considered exceptional service. For example, during our move into the facility, we had an unfortunate incident with our mover, who refused to be tested for COVID-19 and could not enter the facility. He proceeded to dump all our friend's furniture and belongings on the sidewalk and expected us (three seniors) to move all the furniture and belongings. Michael and his colleague Dave, immediately stepped in and told us not to worry- they said they would personally move everything to the 3rd floor, clean up all the debris and take care of everything. And they did- with kindness, patience and a smile!! Nothing is too much for them to do to make the residents' lives comfortable and happy! I have never experienced this level of genuine caring and excellence in service in elder care facilities. From the Operations manager, to the nurses, to the waitpersons, to housekeeping staff, problems are resolved with caring, concern and respect! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Waters Edge Lodge. I want to thank the owners, managers, and staff for making this a transformative experience for my friend. This place is not what it use to be. Now it is all about the money, the management is heartless and does not have the residents best interest in mind. Please don't make the same mistake that we did, find a different place for your loved one. The managers have no medical background but try to make medical decisions. Summary - Inedible food; inconsistent service; management is unaware of billing practices; thinking of pulling mom out. Details - We moved my mother to the Lodge a short while ago. She was a bit reluctant to spend the amount necessary to go to Cardinal Point, and seemed content with the Lodge, so we went with that. Our experience has been mixed: (1) The physical care is good. Staff attends to her needs when she has them. (2) The food is horrible. My mother has lost 16 pounds, and not in a good way. She, and others, have been taking pictures of the meals. A turkey sandwich consisted of 2 slices of bread and one thin slice of turkey. No lettuce, no tomato. It came with 1 slice of Kiwi and 4 green beans. Chicken breasts are so hard that residents joke that their knives break on it. Tomato sauce on pasta is so acidy that she has thrown up. My mother is eating nothing but crackers and cottage cheese. This, alone, is worthy of concern, and a reason why I'm pushing her to move out. (3) The other services are inconsistent. Laundry is supposed to be on a schedule, but is really not. When we take her to our house for meals, she brings laundry because she says they didn't show up to pick it up. Cleaning of the apartment and changing of my mother's bedsheets has been spotty as well, and it's been 2 weeks since they've last cleaned it. (4) Management seems unaware. My mother had a number of questions about her bill (lots of items that are unexplained, etc.), asked the resident manager and he had no clue what any of the additional items were. Other residents I've talked to have complained about being over-charged, have complained to their children, but nothing has gotten better. (5) The worst part of this is that my mother LOVES her room, and doesn't want to leave. What to do? If she's not looking forward to mealtime, is not eat well or healthy, and her room and laundry are not being done as scheduled, I simply cannot let her stay. My father lived in The Lodge for 8 years. This is a wonderful residence for seniors who are still mobile and still want some independence. Their meals, housekeeping, laundry and meds administration are taken care of by a great staff. There are many activities available that seniors can join. As my father aged, there were also options that were available to serve his needs. The monthly fees are reasonable. The location is near a small shopping center where the residents can go to the grocery store, library or out for a meal. This is Harbor Bay's little gem for seniors! read more

Well, it's hard to know where to begin. In February I found out I needed an assisted living for my Mother, and pretty quickly. I started hunting, and came upon Waters Edge Lodge, a place I'd never heard of before. I saw great reviews, hunted Google for more, and then called a company that specializes in reviewing Assisted Living facilities across the United States, and quickly realized it was on the East Coast. The woman told me that The Lodge was not a part of their network, but she had heard of it many times, and the wonderful family that owns and runs it. She then told me that she had heard nothing but wonderful things about it, and she wished they were a part of her network. Yay! So I call The Lodge, and talk to Jordan about coming to look. She was so kind, beyond helpful, and very very honest. Let me tell you, this place is awesome. They stress good health, and have exercise classes(plural), bingo, musicians daily, and excursions to the shopping areas. The place is beautiful and calming. There are chairs and benches every few feet in the lovely walking areas on every floor, in case the residents need a rest, as well as book nooks, games to be borrowed, a movie theater, a charming, brand new mini spa, a wonderful dining room, Pete's coffee of every sort, and cookies all day in the resident's own little cafe area. My husband and I laughed and said, "we want to live here". Okay, then we go into the lodge big room that looks like a "lodge", and out the back doors, and voila, your breath is taken away by the lagoon. It truly is something to see, and the walking paths go on and on, which made my husband and I happy, as we can visit my Mom and have some fun and exercise, then relax outside, as they have seating too. Safeway is right next door, as well as places to eat, and a church is not far down the path. I know they have a shuttle there every Sunday. Now back to the wonderful, and not that it matters, beautiful Jordan Hill-Washington. This woman is absolutely amazing. She went way above and beyond the call of duty, and that is understating it. She was just so helpful, so smart, so kind, and she knew just what to say to me to make me feel better, to help finish the intake information, and she was there for us at times she should have had to herself. Other than the beautiful, well respected facility, I think it is Jordan that sold me on The Lodge. She is a true asset. Thank you so much Jordan. We moved my Mom in after doing some fun decorating, and as she is sometimes know to, she had some issues. They were so on top of it. We met with Sarah, and the head nurse, Darnelle Zimmerman, who is also of the Zimmerman family that owns The Lodge. They are a second generation family that run it. That said a lot to me. They really care. Darnelle and my husband got down to the root of my Mom's stuff, and I liked that Sarah and Darnelle were kind, observant of my Mom in every way, and also refreshingly honest with us. I will tell you that a few years ago, I was thinking I was going to have my Mom live at Villa San Ramon in San Ramon, when she was ready. I had checked them out before. When I called to speak to them again, I felt like I was talking to a car salesman, which put me off, as well as the price, and what was and wasn't included in that price. So glad I widened my range, and found Waters Edge Lodge. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor, and go take a look. read more

My mother was a resident of The Lodge for over 3 years. She enjoyed her time there. She was able to find a group to play bridge with and had a great time at bingo every night. The owners are genius at hiring caring and compassionate employees. My mother had some mild cognitive impairment and the staff was wonderful to her. I highly recommend The Lodge. After careful consideration of the senior living facilities in the area, my Aunt moved here a couple years ago. She could not be more pleased with her new home. While I was worried that she would miss the comfort of her house, she instead was so happy to have great meals made for her, a movie every night in the special movie room and daily cookies and ice cream (yes, she has a sweet tooth!). I was very happy to have her medications all handled on site, activities/outings always taking place and opportunities for family to spend monthly special events with her and other Water Edge residents. Plus, pre-Covid, sharing meals in the dining room (for a low price) was extra special. I have actually called to have them check why she isn't answering her phone-no problem, they got back to me with an answer while I waited on hold. She has fallen a couple times-they notified me right away, even when completely uninjured. Flu shots? Handled. Needed help with washing hair? Not a problem. The staff is great.(Shoutout to Enrique and "Baby"). Couldn't be happier. Obviously this level of care isn't free. But to know my Aunt is taken care of, and she is content and happy, worth every penny. read more

My mother has been at the Waters Edge Lodge on Bay Farm Island for almost a year. She was not enthusiastic about moving in, but soon was very comfortable and happy in her new home. The facility has much to offer, the staff is wonderful and the entire ambiance is enjoyable. There is a wide range of activities...something for all. My mother has four children, we all agree that she has settled in well and we are happy to see her so safe and content. I worked for the Lodge for 8+ years. I was fortunate to meet Mrs. Zimmerman and her devotion to the facility. This is a family owned business dedicated to the elderly community. Once you step in the facility you get the sense of being home. I considered this place my second home. I loved working at the lodge not only because I made so many new friends, but also because as a college student, management was very flexible with my schedule. I majored in the medical field and this was great experience for me. I was able to grow as an employee, I went from being a part time server to becoming a medication aide. There is opportunity to grow in this facility if you are dedicated. I held a position as a full time Personal care assistant and a medication aide. I loved it because I was exposed to so many different nursing skills that I can use. I sure miss this place! read more

We felt fortunate to find "The Lodge". The owners are local, they have a vision, they have a strong presence and dedication to providing the best care for the residents in a comfortable, clean, independent yet safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. Aging is not easy and nothing is prefect. At some point in time we realize, to maintain a safe independent living environment requires more services. As one starts to looks around, we all have various criteria but, we want an environment that is safe and that can provide a good feeling. This good feeling is found at The Lodge and it is not provided in isolation. My mother was a resident at The Lodge for nearly two years. Everyone, from the Administration, Community Relations Director, Fabulous Nurses, Dedicated Housekeepers, Patient Care Technicians, Dietary Team and Maintenance Crew all come with tenure and care about each resident as an individual with respect. After searching for a nice place for my mother, we were very lucky to have found the Waters Edge Lodge in Alameda, Bayfarm community. Right from the start we were given a wonderful tour and shown all that the facility had to offer. She was very impressed and she moved right in. What appealed to us the most was being able to be on a month-to-month lease, and that she did not have to put down an exuberant deposit like the other facilities were asking for. The people that work here are kind, supporting and caring. The other tenants are also enjoyable to be with and seemed happy to be living here. My mother has enjoyed living here and I have enjoyed knowing she is safe and happy. I would recommend this location for anyone looking for a good senior residence facility. They have three levels of living spaces, from independent living to complete assisted living availability. read more

My mother spent nearly four years at Waters Edge Lodge before moving to Elders Inn, a sister institution, owned by the Zimmermans. The Lodge was well suited to Mom's needs. She could choose from a variety of planned activities, share coffee with family and friends in the Cafe, or have her hair shampooed and set. The staff was welcoming and caring. Meetings with the administration and nurses were informative and helpful in monitoring her progress. My father-in-law had been a resident of the Lodge in the early 1990's. The Zimmerman family and staff have consistently provided quality care for Lodge residents. We were fortunate to have Waters Edge Lodge in our neighborhood to care for both of our parents. read more

Elsa Bogosian, who resided for over 10 wonderful years at water's Edge Lodge, felt genuinely "at home" in her one room apartment on the bottom floor looking out onto a tastefully decorated and beautifully planted courtyard. We would routinely go out onto this very patio and to discuss current affairs. The beauty and tastefulness of the Lodge (as she affectionately called it) made Elsa always feel like she had moved into a resort instead of a "home for old people." During the cold months or bad weather days we would meet up in the Lodge's cafe and she would show me what was new and different about the facility. The owners were constantly trying new ways to engage the residents and guests. I was introduced to art classes, meditation sessions, music events, cultural exhibits, elder activism events, work-out equipment, and comfort animals. There was a persistent sense of movement and cutting edge activism. As soon as we would sit in the cafe surrounded by other residents and guests' animated talking, we would pick up where we had left off when we would meet in different cafes around the Bay Area. The atmosphere was so light and fresh that it was conducive to meaningful meetings of the mind and spirit. I was also impressed with the professionalism and kindness of the staff. They always conveyed my messages or checked on my friend when I wasn't able to reach her, especially when her advanced age diminished her hearing and eyesight. When Elsa passed away at the proud age of 102, she never been in pain thanks to the consistent care of the staff and she also never felt cut off from the pulse of life. She still went to get her hair done or went shopping in the nearby shopping center. Hence, her independent spirit which had originally prompted her to play an important part in founding the northern Californian Ombudsman division stayed alive until her death. The Lodge was the perfect place for her because the owners are very much in support of elder independence. read more

The Lodge was at the top of our families list of senior assisted living facilities after visiting about five homes. The location was convenient and quiet. The views of the lagoon, golf course and proximity to a small shopping center were pluses. There was a good selection of studios to choose from and three levels of care. We chose the Premium care on the first floor for our 90 year mother who needed help with most activities of daily living like dressing, toileting, walking, bathing and food preparation. The cost of care at the Lodge for what they provided was truly a value. The staff was attentive and the other residents very supportive. Mom did not want to leave her home of 50 years and Dad who is 91 and can just manage caring for himself. We knew the transition would be hard for her. Other residents stepped in to say hello and share similar stories of leaving their homes and loved ones to find a new life. When you get older, you can get more beautiful. Inspiring! The residents I met were understanding, compassionate, hopeful and positive despite having challenges of their own. Mom was at the Lodge for a month and her mental and physical health improved greatly. The family was very disappointed by Mom's determination to leave. She could not adjust to the reality of her care needs. The family will miss the people we met at the Lodge. read more

We were so happy to have found The Lodge. After being discouraged by visits to a few other facilities, we knew that after touring and talking to staff and residents we had found the perfect place for my 83 year old dad that could no longer live on his own. The facility is in a very beautiful and safe location on Bay Farm island with walking paths and lagoon right out rear patio. Due to the level of care my dad needs we chose the 1st floor premium care which is an all inclusive cost compared to some other facilities that will nickle and dime you with the extra needs. His studio apartment also has a beautiful view of lagoon which he loves. We love the staff, from caregivers to administration to nursing everyone is so nice and caring and always responsive to dads needs along with our requests and questions. It was a huge relief to us as we no longer have to worry about dad. He is at a safe place with caring staff and has made friends with residents. He enjoys the live entertainment, though he says he wishes it happened more often, and he is a regular at nightly bingo. He enjoys his 3 meals a day, we wish the food was a little better, but I think this is a common issue with all facilities. I highly recommend The Lodge in Alameda, they have several levels of care from independent living to premium care, and we have found their prices to be reasonable. read more
