(residents ages vary from college mom is 80) meals are prepared on site, dietary needs are monitored and I've been there at meal time .. food looks great smell terrific (mom has mere complained about the food and she has always been a picky eater) if your family member needs the services they provide I would recommend calling and discussing your needs with them.

I was putting off trying to find a care home for my mom for the last six months. Prior to that,…read morealthough she had been declining, I could still communicate with her somewhat; push her around in a wheelchair, and watch her eat most of her food. However, from January 2025 on, it seemed like every two weeks, she would get worse dramatically. She wouldn't eat; she wouldn't take her pills - she was fading in front of me everyday, and I was powerless to stop the deterioration. She needed an around the clock care giver or be at a facility at all times for her well-being, but I didn't know where to start or what to look for. I didn't have grandparents that lived to an old age and my dad died when I was a teen, so this search was foreign. I called a few places, but I didn't know what to ask for and what I should be looking for in a place for my mom. A nurse gave me Nicole Fauss's number and immediately Nicole wanted to get a sense of who my mom is. From her thorough, yet sensitive and understanding, questioning, she deduced that my mom would do much better at a smaller residence. My mom had become almost completely aphasic and her recognition of English had vanished, leaving her with just a scant familiarity with rudimentary Mandarin - and even that was pretty infrequent. So Nicole started to comb the Bay Area for possible, suitable place. She sent me names, short descriptions of these homes and contact info. I revised other things I thought that would be important as this process was undertaking: distance, dietary needs, style of food, I even thought that my mom may feel a bit more comfortable with other people who were Asian and were also in need of memory care. With all these changes, Nicole adjusted her search and would promptly send me lists of places. She would call many of these places first so I didn't have to feel so awkward during my initial phone call. All that she did for my mom and me were far more than I had ever expected anyone to commit. I called, visited and they didn't feel right. Nicole did not push me to take any of these earlier places; she just continued to look for us. I called a place that was surprisingly close to my mom's apartment. It didn't check all the boxes, but it had other aspects that Nicole could sense would be valuable to my mom's health and my state of peace. Nicole's guidance and diligence have led us to this wonderful residence for my mom and has shown that this stage of my mom's life doesn't have to be so saturated with fear and sadness. The home is small. The caregiver to resident ratio is small. There is a pretty yard. The caregivers are not Mandarin speakers, but they listen and observe attentively. The caregivers make sure that the food meets my mom's picky needs as well as her nutritional requirements. They've also expanded my mom's palate as she now eats and drinks far more than she did a month ago. The place is also not a home  specifically for elderly, memory-care residents. Because of this diversity, the energy of the home is much higher than some of the other places I have seen. Being situated in this has helped my mom. She taps her feet to the Supremes coming out of the radio; smiles (she smiles often now) at the other residents on her floor; has meals with them and tries to talk to them. I have a better comprehension of what living with dignity is like. My mom is now in a place that feels like a home, because, quite frankly, it is a home.

I hope things have improved since then) The terrible management at CS had completely destroyed my trust in any facility but I had no choice but to start looking around on my own. I visited a place in Union City which was way out of my budget but the staff in marketing actually seemed like decent, caring people. They recommended I call Sandra Wallace, and I did. Sandra came to meet my mother and I at Casa Sandoval. I was immediately impressed by her experience, professionalism, knowledge of the state laws regulating care facilities and especially her knowledge of the various facilities and costs in the area. After looking at several places she recommended I check out, I moved my mother to Rosegate in San Leandro. She lived there for almost five years until she died at age 93, very well taken care of. I was very happy. I had some problems in the first six months at RG but Sandra helped me get them resolved. Her knowledge and understanding of memory and cognitive impairment is amazing. In addition to managing facilities she also has hands on experience taking care of her own mother and understands the every day challenges of caregiving. In 2019 we started looking for a place for my aunt, who also has Dementia. I called Sandra and she helped us find a place we liked in Castro Valley. But then the Pandemic arrived and changed everything. My aunt came to live with us instead, which was a very challenging time. In September when I was at my wit's end I called Sandra again and asked for help. She recommended Quail Garden in Livermore, which is lovely AND they were allowing outside family visits which was critically important to us. My aunt has lived there since October and it's been great. I cannot recommend Sandra more highly. She is a powerhouse of knowledge and support. She is a person of integrity and stands by her clients. She checks in from time to time to see how things are going and goes the extra mile to solve any problems that may be going on.

The caregivers at New Alamo are fantastic! They are so kind and caring. Every time I visited, my mom was happy, clean, and comfortable. I appreciated that they make the effort to take the residents outside each day when the weather is nice even though most of the residents have limited mobility. I have dealt with many care facilities of various sizes and I know what to look for when it comes to quality of care. New Alamo is definitely one of the best I have seen. The owner is very motivated to provide premium service and makes a lot of effort to communicate well and meet needs. The caregivers are friendly and attentive. Thank you for caring for my mom!

Our 91 year old mother who needed…read moreovernight care in her final days was left lying in a soaking wet bed by the caregiver, and the rail on the bed was found down by the facility CNA in the morning after the caregiver left. The primary reason we hired an overnight caregiver was to assure she didn't fall out of the bed! This was sheer negligence. In addition, the company has no formal method of providing updates to the family. I asked early in the day for a report from the overnight staff and was told by Bill Kammerer that a report would be provided to me. Never heard another word until the CNA from her residence told me the condition he found our mother in when he started his shift. This has caused considerable stress to me and my family during already very difficult times. The lack of professionalism from the poor staff training to the absence of communication is below a one star rating- it's criminal. Bill's comment about HBSC finding the complaint unsubstantiated doesn't erase the fact that his staff left my mother lying in soaking wet clothes and the bed rails down when they left their shift in the morning. The only reason it was "unsubstantiated" is because records showed his staff had been through required training, however, licensing could not confirm the violation of my mother's rights because according to their report to me, they hadn't witnessed the neglect. However the Nursing Director of my mother's residence DID witness the neglect by the staff of this agency and she was also appalled and as disturbed as my family and I were.

He listened to our situation, provided me with insight and contact information on the local facilities, explained what I needed to know, and what to consider when reaching out to these prospective places. His advice was invaluable. He was always there for me, whenever I had questions. He was super responsive, emailing back or calling right away. And through this process my mom kept changing her mind about where she wanted to live (mid-peninsula near her friends, south bay near me), and so our requirements kept changing. Through it all Alan was patient and positive - something I really needed during this stressful time. I seriously have no idea how I would have handled this whole situation without him.
