Avida Home Care provided us with in-home care givers for my 86 year-old father-in-law. From the first meeting in our home, Raul Mendez was very organized, professional and personable. Raul assessed our needs, met with our family and offered great flexibility to met our needs. Raul did a great job of communicating before, during and after care givers had been to our home. He was constantly evaluating their performance and ensuring we were happy with the service. The care givers were very kind and sweet to our family and treated my father-in-law with dignity. We worked with Avida when my MS worsened, and we needed more help. Working with Raul, Adrian and Vincenzo has been so comfortable. This is a local, family-owned business that is a total contrast to the huge companies that employ so many people that they cannot possibly keep track of how each individual is doing. In a word, Avida exemplifies care! At any point, when a caregiver was not exactly what we expected Raul and his staff would listen and respond by placing a new caregiver that we felt more comfortable working with. I was unexpectedly discharged from the hospital; we called Raul and by the time we arrived at home there was a qualified caregiver there to help my husband transition me home. Avida took care of our 101year old father for a few of months before we had to let them go. Our father is very low maintenance and easy to care for but they became extremely complacent. The initial feeling was that they provided good customer service and that staff were reliable. However, the care slowly deteriorated and they often didn't follow the instructions of his private nurse, including not contacting her when there was a problem. Here are some examples of some of the infractions. 1. He was given medication when it clearly should have been withheld, and it could have been very serious. Then we were blatantly lied to about it and the evidence was obvious. 2. He was dehydrated. 3. They didn't ambulate him as he should have been, and when they did, they didn't use the safety belt, which put him at very high risk for falling. 4. The kitchen was filthy. 5. Bed linens were not changed on a regular basis. 6. Soiled clothes were left unwashed. 7. One of the caregivers contacted us three times AFTER she was let go and this should NEVER happen. Apparently she was trying to cover her tracks. 8. Money was missing from his desk drawer. There's no direct evidence but they were the only ones who knew it was there and are the only ones who had access to our fathers house. 9. They had completely easy to follow menu suggestions and full access to grocery delivery every week. Basically all they fed him were hot dogs and other junk. They rarely fixed him a homemade, healthy meal. Bottom line, we believe that Raul's heart is in the right place but does not always vet his caregivers properly; nor is there adequate supervision. As far as we know, there were never any visits by him or anyone at Avida to assess the care being delivered. All in all, we cannot recommend Avida Care and, furthermore, hope anyone considering them think twice about utilizing their services unless a family member can provide close oversight to the care being given. As far as our credentials go, I have been a successful independent contractor in Japan for 40 years and speak fluent Japanese. My sister is an RN with a Masters in Nursing Administration and 25 years of management experience. For part of her career, she worked under the Obama Administration, traveling extensively in the USA as a Public Health Advisor to various government organizations. read more

My long-time caregiver, who had been with me for 5 years and was privately paid, moved out of the area in May. After 5 years, she was family, and we were all sad that she had to go. I realized that she spoiled me, but I had no idea how much until I had to find a replacement. People failed to show up or call in sick, so I was frequently left hanging. I work full-time, and rely on my caregivers to get me dressed and ready to leave, so I was missing a lot of work and I was really stressed out by having to search for a new caregiver every few days. The final straw was when a highly recommended caregiver stole my checkbook! I got the money back, thanks to my bank, but "stressed out" didn't even begin to cover it. At that point, I decided to try working with an agency, which is a much more expensive option, but much safer, since they manage the caregivers for you. I tried several of the big chain companies, but they wouldn't accommodate the hours that I need. Then I found Raul Mendez and Avida. Raul really cares about his clients and his workers. I called him on a Saturday and he came out to see me the next day! We developed a plan that suits my needs, and he came on Monday to introduce me to my new caregiver. He comes with the caregivers on their initial shift to make sure that they don't walk into a strange house and that the clients don't have to deal with a total stranger. For some reason, this is not the industry standard. Raul is also very responsive. I can email, text, or call him and he always gets back to me within an hour or so. The first caregiver Raul sent me had a lot of things going on in her life that prevented her from coming in on a regular basis. I discussed this problem with him, and the next day, he was there with a new person. He has also been excellent about getting me help for unscheduled care, which is something that the chain agencies don't do. He also really cares about everybody. He pays his workers above minimum wage and has health insurance coverage for them, which never happens. After the theft, he suggested that I install cameras outside my house. He recommended a brand of camera and came out (again on a Sunday) to install them. He takes care of me like family. TL, DR: Excellent, small caregiving agency with fantastic customer service! Fantastic operation and incredibly run by Raul who has a fantastic team. They've taken on a tough chore with my mother you can be difficult and they are extremely accommodating and can make changes at the last minute to make sure that my mother as well cared For. Avida Home Care has made it so much easier for me to care for my aunt. The caregivers on staff were always on time, efficient, knowledgable, and caring. Raul (the owner) is always available to answer questions and help problem solve. Having the stress relieved off my back for my aunt to get her proper care was such a blessing. They were able to adopt all our normal routines into their day so my aunt wouldn't notice a difference in who was caring for her. I reached out to Avida to help take care of my Mom. I work full time and she needs help when I am at work. Sandra the caregiver is always on time and pointed out a few things around the home to make things safe and more comfortable for my Mom. Their caregivers do a lot from walking our dog, to helping my Mom with her physical therapy exercises and even preparing meals. They provide a very strong support system. My name is Janet Corse Bellotti-Kelley! I just can't say enough WONDERFUL things about Avida Home Care LLC! My Mother passed away on 5/16/2017, and since then, my Father was extremely lonely. His heart was broken when she passed. Since my Dad lived alone with his Darling & Adorable Dulcie, Golden Retriever, I decided it was time for my Dad to have someone come in and care for him; companionship, light house cleaning, & just sit with him and talk. The owner, Raul Mendez, came to our home in September 2020 to evaluate and talk with me and my Dad, Joseph Corse. He stayed with us for a long time so we could get to know each other. Dad and I were very impressed with him from the beginning! He's a GREAT, genuine, compassionate, caring individual. So Katelynn, our wonderful, compassionate, loving caretaker took very good care of my Dad. As time went on, he needed additional care after taking a fall on 9/28 & then having his second heart attack on 10/7, so we needed 24/7 care. From 10/14 until the night my Father passed on 11/20/2020, my Father had exceptional care. The night he passed, Liz (who was new to Avida) sang gospel music to him. Such a loving, sweet Lady~another extremely compassionate caretaker! Janeann, who is Katelynn's Mother, was absolutely the best! She sat with my Dad and held his hand & rubbed his back.
