Britestar has been taking care of a relative who is in another state. They have been amazing. Especially a young women named Jazmyne Pascual. My wife's caregiver, Demetriess, is top notch. Despite living in Antioch and sometimes facing severe traffic congestion on her way to our home in Orinda she has never been late in the three years she has been working with us. She is always very positive regardless of what is going on in her life. More importantly, she takes perfect care of my wife who needs to have someone close by her side at all times when she is out of her chair. She is a very good housekeeper, and is excellent at reviewing the meds I set out for my wife, sometimes catching me in mistakes. BrightStar Care has been essential to my long term recovery. My caregiver Bonny is amazing!!!! She comes once a week and sets me up for the whole week with grocery shopping, laundry and food preparation so that I have easy healthy meals through the week. I was scheduled to have a hip replacement and up until several weeks prior I thought I would return home without help. Once common sense prevailed, I was referred to Shari Maxwell by a family member of long term clients. This agency gets "it right" starting with Shari making a personal appointment to assess my needs. Initially, I thought that I would need 8-12 hours per day, but soon found out that it gave me great peace of mind to have someone at night and they immediately filled that need. Upon returning home from surgery, my angel caregiver, Amy greeted me. Brightstar sent their RN at the same time as to instruct Amy as to how to use the Game Ready ice machine. Amy was a pleasure to have in our home always demonstrating initiative in assisting with timely physical therapy, medications, meals etc. I have recovered in fairly record speed and I attribute it to the initial care that Amy provided. Also, a shout out to my mostly nighttime help, Oliba. She had the most loving manner and was willing to help in any way and a joy to have in our home. I can't say enough good things about Brightstar Care, their Director of Client Care (Sharon Maxwell), and every one of the caregivers. My parents were initially resistant to using in-home help, but quickly came to appreciate the peace of mind it brought them. Sharon and the caregivers were very caring with my mom. They developed meaningful relationships with her, rather than treating her as just "a client". Whenever there was an emergency, Brightstar staff immediately came to the rescue and helped with whatever we needed. At the end of my mom's life, a Hospice trained caregiver was with her at all times, providing us with incredible support. She was our rock on the day my mom passed away. The services provided by Brightstar Contra Costa County go above and beyond what I would ever have expected from in-home care. My mother was under hospice care for more than a year - we selected Brightstart agency from the start, when we needed just a few hours a week, progressing to 24-hr care. Several Brightstar staff were with us since the beginning: Mimi, Bonnie, and Carmen H. We were impressed by the agency's concern to place the most compatible, competent, and caring personnel with us. Over the last 12 months there were many caregivers who filled the shifts: Massy, Andrea, Claudia, Oma, Chanele, Aura Carmen, Cynthia - and each of them so gentle and conscientious. Additionally they were respectful and willing to do errands, as well as household chores related to patient and family needs. The agency works well with Hospice East Bay. They are responsive to communications, provided us with schedules and updates when substitutions were needed. We felt that mom was truly and well cared for by Brightstar staff. BrightStar really does care and so do their caregivers. They go above and beyond to help you with whatever you need. My elderly mother broke her hip this year and I wouldn't send her to skilled nursing, she came right home after the hospital but I'm not a nurse so I needed people that would know the proper care she required. She was in the hospital for 3 days and by then BrightStar had the schedule filled out for her with caregivers that had excellent experience so that we could have skilled care at home. They were really fabulous! The caregivers worked round the clock and they all were wonderful. Recently, Mary M. has been working with us and she has excellent skills but more than that she has such a big heart! She is so patient and kind and just such a lovely person. Her knowledge base is unbelievable and she is just a perfect caregiver. BrightStar cares to match you up with the caregivers that match what skills you need. Not many agencies take the time to do that, but they do. Their office people that you call to schedule like Theresa are just like the caregivers. They care and do whatever they can to help you. BrightStar Care did a great job of taking care of me. I had to receive IV infusion of antibiotic for 6 weeks. The nurse came to my house every day to administer the dosage. Nurses were polite, courteous and professional. Johanna Pincilotti, Client Care Manager, was very responsive. I requested a change of personnel, and she promptly coordinated alternative arrangements. read more

I think Brightstar has done a good job taking care of my mom. They have a 2 hour minimum which makes home care more affordable that we don't have to do a minimum of 4 hours. They are flexible, we can call the evening before someone is schedule to come the next day, and cancel or reschedule - another place we used you had to give 24 hours notice or you were charged. The only drawback is that someone my mom really liked started working with another client and couldn't be with my mom any more. I think they should try and keep the same caregiver with the same client because once you get used a person coming, it is hard to get used to someone new. read more

My 95 year old dad came down with some injuries and illnesses last year, so we were suddenly faced with the need for 24-7 in home care. BrightStar was highly recommended and they certainly lived up to the glowing referral. The Director of Nursing, Christy Wolf, came to the rescue right away. It's obvious that her care and compassion is of the sincerest nature. She thoroughly interviewed us, to determine all of our (dad's) needs, and created a schedule of top notch caregivers. We needed a caregiver for 3, 8-hour shifts each day. Using a ongoing binder, each caregiver chronicled his or her experiences with my dad and communicated thoroughly with the caregiver coming for the next shift. BrightStar was also very flexible with regards to dad's multiple hospitalizations during the period we needed them, and were quick to come up with people at the end of his hospital stays. Because people are different, each BrightStar caregiver brought something unique and special to his day, and all had extreme patience. A couple of exceptional caregivers remembered are Matthew, for his dedication to dad's rehabilitation; Diana, for her calm and caring personality; and Maria, for her dedication to keeping the domestic tasks of the home in order! Provided the service when needed. An unexpected medical issue came up with my dad who is under hospice care. As great as the hospice people are, they are limited in terms of the amount of time and visits they can make at this stage. This is where BrightStar has come in. They are providing 24x7 nurses who are not only caring for my dad but also for me as a long time caregiver. The nurses they have are top notch. Example, Jon took the time to understand the family he is helping and presented us a slide show of photos that my dad really enjoyed. This is nursing above and beyond what is expected an example of caring for patients versus just doing what is medically needed. read more

I had a terrible experience with this "supposed" home health care business. My husband had a hip replacement, then it got infected. He had to have an intravenous line to his heart put in to administer antibiotics through it, three times per day. Neither of us having had any medical knowledge about this kind of picc line, I wanted to make sure we had a nurse with us the first few times, when he came home from the hospital, to watch him administer the drug through the line. Also to make sure our home was set up correctly. They said a nurse was coming....then kept calling to tell me they couldn't find one! We were left to figure things out ourselves. Very scary and nerve racking to say the least! Very bad business. read more
