    Melody saying her goodbyes

The nurses were awesome. Even when they had to inform me that it wasn't time for some of my meds to be given. They did it with care and compassion. I in turn shared with them that the majority of the clients here are in some form of pain whether its mental, physical, or spiritual. Its their job to advocate for themselves, so do not get raddled by a raised voice. Because its your job to advocate for all of us. You know your job. You're trained well otherwise you wouldn't be here doing what you love. I see you, I hear you and most of all Iappreciated you Love Melody Brown Hatchett

I increased from 1-3 stars , because my mother really liked the physical therapist and therapy. She was still unhappy with staffing level at night, noise etc, so we moved her. Staff was very helpful with move.

The entire staff made a difficult time so much easier for our family. Everyone--from the front desk to the nursing team--was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely compassionate. The therapists were outstanding and played such a huge role in my mom's recovery, always encouraging and tailoring her care to her needs. The nurses and CNAs went above and beyond every single day, treating her with dignity, patience, and warmth. It's clear that the team here truly cares about their patients, not just medically but emotionally as well. I'm so grateful for the support and dedication they showed my mom. She was supposed to have a walker to help her with transitioning to bedside commode, the walker was either not in room or always in a place that made it hard for my mother to get to. Several time my mother had to call me to contact the front office to get someone to help her to the commode, due to call light not being answered. My mother was told by an LVN, your nurse is on break, so she would have to wait till her return for assistance to the bedside commode. I reached out to management many times, on one occasion, I was asked if I wanted my mother released, sent home with therapy, after complaining. The staff and management will smile in your face, promise to follow up, but there's no follow up! Horrible Horrible Horrible, and they call this place one of the nicest places for rehabilitation, what a joke!

Having had very negative experiences with other local facilities in the past, we were honestly terrified to trust another rehab center. Thankfully, several people recommended Tampico, and what a difference this facility was. From the moment we walked in, the building felt clean, welcoming, and well cared for. Every staff member greeted us warmly and treated my mom with dignity and compassion during one of the most vulnerable times of her life. Her care team was wonderful. Her CNAs were Helen, Marie, and Romel. Her PTs were Mimi, Deepika, and Nicole, and her OT was Aarti. Her absolute favorites were Helen, Emiliano, and Aarti. The therapy team pushed her in all the right ways while also taking time to educate our family and encourage my mom throughout recovery. When my mom arrived, she could not even sit up independently. By discharge, she had improved dramatically and was strong enough to transfer to John Muir's intensive rehab program, which prior she didn't qualify for due to her level of weakness. Most importantly, we never once felt like her needs were ignored. The staff consistently responded with kindness, patience, and professionalism. The facility truly felt like a home away from home while still providing excellent rehabilitation care. The only complaint my mom had was the food, especially the fish meals, but she is also a very picky cook-from-scratch person. We are incredibly grateful to the entire Tampico team and would absolutely recommend this facility to families looking for compassionate, quality rehabilitation care.

My dad was there for several weeks and Gene knew my dad wasn't comfortable with female nurses bathing him. So whenever a female nurse was assigned to bathe my dad, Gene would volunteer to take my dad on top of the patients he was assigned to that day. Not many people volunteer to take on extra work. We are so grateful to him and this made it so much easier for my dad to bathe regularly. Otherwise he would refuse to bathe if it was a female nurse. Gene always greeted us with a smile. For patients, it's so important to see a smiling face when in a facility like this. God bless Gene and his kind heart. Another nurse who was hired towards the end of my dad's stay- (I don't remember his name but I remember he was from Afghanistan). He too was so kind and caring. He would check on my dad noticeably more than what we were used to, and hewas so attentive. It felt like he was family. The downside: They don't have an after hour number to call. You call the main number and NO ONE ever picks up. Once I was on FaceTime with my dad around 10:45pm while he was at this facility. He began having a seizure during our call. Between my husband and I, I think we called maybe 60-70 times from 10:45-4am. No one answered. We were out of state so we couldn't just drive over. Even if you drive over, at that time the front doors are locked and you call the same number for them to open the door... so if they aren't answering, it didn't matter if you are outside or not. I came back to CA the next day because I was so worried about my dad. I brought this to the attention of the nurses and was told that they don't have another after hour number to give me. They said they would leave a message for their supervisor to call me back... no one ever called me back despite me following up several times. My dad could have fallen off his bed and really hurt himself that night... and not being able to get through is a major concern and consideration if we ever need to put my dad in a rehab facility again. This is why I'm giving it a 2 star because not being able to get through to a nurse is concerning and puts patients at risk. We were lucky that nothing happened to my dad when he had his seizure but I basically didn't sleep that night and flew back the next morning at 6:30am, which could have been avoided if I was able to get through to someone when I called (& my dad didn't answer the phone either (because his phone had dropped to the floor) which made us think of the worst possible scenario). If something had happened to my dad, they would have been 100% liable, therefore, I just don't understand the reason behind it having an emergency number to call the nurses after hours... or make sure someone is assigned to the phones at all times. I doubt during the time all patients are supposedly sleeping, why phones aren't answered as nurses are more likely to be sitting at the desk than all of them being with patients the entire time (from 10:45pm-4am). Another issue is the constant ringing sound which is patients trying to get the nurses attention. I don't know how they sit there and just ignore the ringing for hours. The you hear people screaming for help which is very hard to witness. It is very concerning that patients can be yelling for help and no one shows up for a while. I know brings nurses at such facility is a very difficult job but these patients are basically relying on the nurses... as some can't even get out of bed by themselves. I am writing this because no supervisor or anyone ever got back to me. Hopefully this will bring it to their attention.

Thanks to the entire staff's exceptional care, I am walking again! The PT and OT folks (Nikki, Deandre and Akashi) patiently gave me the support and confidence to not only walk, but to climb stairs! I have never had PT before and was amazed how their simple instructions and encouragement helped heal my body so that I could return home. There are too many other names to mention here, but the following are a few. I'd like to give a shout out to the nursing staff, particularly Dahlia. The nurses were so kind and patient, helping me with every need, including cleansing. I hope that I was kind and respectful, but I noticed that some patients could be quite difficult. The nurses and CNAs consistently maintained a calm, caring and professional demeanor. They catered to every need and clearly cared about the patients' well-being. Claire, the Activities Director delivered daily menus and a list of scheduled activities. What a sweet individual, dropping by each morning with a smile and a little conversation. Nicole of the Housekeeping Staff was lovely. I engaged her in conversation at every opportunity, as she made sure that each room was clean and in proper order for each patient. My case worker, Mary, was instrumental in working with doctors and staff to secure my release date. She also recommended an appt. with my PCP and referred me to out-patient PT care. Another shout out is to the kitchen staff. The meals were healthy and delicious and tailored to each patient's needs. Mistakes were sometimes made and were quickly rectified. One small concern is that breakfasts always arrived cold. Having worked in catering, I know it is difficult to serve a hot meal to 50 people at once, but it can be done. Icing on the cake: Greta, an optometrist visited some of the patients for eye exams and glaucoma tests. I did not expect this extra service and appreciate it so much! In additional, the facility has followed up with me to check on my healing progress. I hope none of you require such intense care, but if you do, I highly recommend PH Post-Acute Care to administer to both physical and emotional needs.

I stayed there for three months, and during that time I experienced nothing but care and support from the staff. The nurses and CNAs are attentive, friendly, and truly caring. I especially want to thank Marth and Arryan--they are so sweet and genuinely care about their patients. The night nurses were excellent as well. I'd also like to thank the CNAs Melissa, Beth, and of course Dalia. They were helpful, kind, and attentive. They took such great care of me and made me feel safe during my time away from home. Physical therapy and occupational therapy were also great throughout my recovery. They helped me from the very beginning to regain my mobility and strength. The therapists Jordan and Justin were fun, funny, and kind throughout my sessions. They made each visit engaging and always took the time to listen to my needs. They consistently found ways to challenge me while keeping the sessions enjoyable, and they helped me grow stronger every day. I truly appreciated their support and encouragement. My case manager, Bianca, was amazing throughout the whole process. She was always available whenever I had questions or needed someone to talk to. We definitely had our moments--lol--but she was truly supportive and helpful every step of the way. I also want to thank Claire, the activity director. She was so lovely and caring, and she truly tried to make every day fun and different for all the patients. She recognized each patient's unique qualities and worked hard to make their time at the facility as enjoyable as possible. Thank you to everyone at Pleasant Hill Post Acute for helping me through my recovery journey. Masa

Cell phone use is allowed and encouraged, so you never feel too disconnected from home and can effectively take care of business (it isn't realistic to be disappearing from the world for 30+ days). Tons of fantastic healthy snack options, along with the unprecedented option to have a small personal stash of your favorite snacks (again, helping me keep that connection with home). Amazing counselors like mine, Eddie and Joey, get you through the day-to-day. Every person there, from the Program Director to our "sober fun" escorts, short of the cook, is a certified counselor in recovery (at minimum, if not an LMFT); and is a fabulous sounding board and source of strength for your daily struggles in early recovery. And the cook is fabulous (man, did I eat well there)!!! You can tell everyone there, right down to said cook, really cares about the clients while they are there and beyond. AVR's program includes a wide breadth of education and therapy including: one-on-one sessions with an LMFT, family/couples therapy with an LMFT, tons of counseling staff onsite at any given time, public outings in the real world with various recovery meeting formats and "sober fun" events, CBT (how to handle those nasty thoughts), DBT (how to handle those rough emotions), traditional Process group therapy (get your gears grinding and open your eyes to reality and life), relapse prevention, anger management, self-esteem, top-rated-recovery-literature study groups, transition planning and assistance, and even alternative/eastern medicine therapy like Qui Gong Tai Chi, yoga, acupuncture, and eco-therapy. There is even regular visits from a certified personal trainer to make the most of the fantastic gym/exercise equipment! The environment is bar-none. The grounds are huge and beautiful for taking a walk or exercising. A wonderful garden to work in if you like. The house is spacious with multiple TVs for downtime. Along with board games, a pool table, a basketball hoop, a pool, and a hot tub. Lots of extra space for personal time and personal calls. And no more than 6 clients at any one time. Don't get me wrong. Recovery is hard. Lots of emotions, realizations, and work to be done. But the environment is incredibly comfortable and fosters personal growth. I spent 60 days there, and they flew by. Between the staff and the environment, AVR makes all that hard work as painless as possible. If you want to not only sober up, but get the tools to stay sober and enjoy the rest of your life with your family, this is the place to go for residential treatment.
