Givng 2 stars because the CNAs were very good. My husband stayed at Reutlinger after a stroke and had to go to the ER 4 times in 2 months. As a result, he was deteriorating and it seems like the staff just gave up on him, and wanted to "discharge" him because he wasn't making any progress. After the first few weeks the PT was minimal and he only saw a speech therapist twice. The food was awful and the atmosphere dreary. Luckily, he was able to be transferred to another Skilled Nursing Facility where he thrived. Even though he was very weak when he arrived there, he recieved excellent physcal therapy and speech therapy. Much better than what he got at Reutlinger. read more

Hannah patiently answered all of my questions and was always professional, friendly, kind, and informative. I would give Reutlinger 0 stars if I could. I know several folks who have had appropriate care here, but while Reutlinger is "in network" on our United Healthcare insurance plan, our patient was denied acceptance because "we don't make enough money off commercial insurance patients so we are denying the hospital referral". This was for a short term stay for a person post TKA. read more

My dad received thorough, kind care from a wonderful multidisciplinary team. OT and PT worked with him daily to regain his strength so he could come home. The nutrition team made sure he had delicious food that he liked by allowing meal selection. The nurses and their aids were kind and helpful. Two wound nurses and a wound Dr following his case were reassuring when moving from the hospital to rehab. We are grateful for everyone who cared for him. read more

My father lived and thrived at the Reutlinger for two and a half years. The care and respect he received from amazing employees in every department (caregivers, nursing, housekeeping, food services, etc.) was outstanding. We researched many care homes and have never found one that offers such a high quality of life. The skilled nursing unit, assisted living section and pre-memory-care units, all under one roof, all helped us as my fathers´ needs changed up to the end of his life. We will always be indebted to the wonderful people at the Reutlinger. read more

Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2019 My great aunt was in need of going to a skilled nursing home. We were give a list to pick from and decided on The Reutlinger. Its roots are Jewish but you don't have to be Jewish to live there or temporarily live at The Reutlinger. On site they do have a Synagogue with regular Shabbat services, they services are reform. They even show popular Jewish shows like Shtisel (one of my favorites) in their media room. The entire campus was clean and the ambiance was relaxing and calm. They have private and shared rooms. The good news is there are no jack and jill restrooms for the residents, so each room has a private bathroom for the residents. It's very spacious. The dining rooms are large and food isn't horrible. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. They have a gift shop which is closed on the Shabbat. I definitely recommend The Reutlinger if you need nursing home for your aging loved ones. My father has suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years and fell on 9/17/23 and broke his leg. He needed to be discharged from John Muir Hospital and we felt The Reutlinger was the best place for him to go because his insurance covered his stay. He was at this facility for over 2 months and stayed in bed most of the day ... barely receiving any therapy. The PT people basically said he would be on a catheter and be bed ridden forever. The staff is nice, friendly and cute ... but not forward thinking or very knowledgeable. His care, however, was covered by his insurance which was very important to my parents as they are on a fixed income. Thankfully, we can afford the best care for my Dad. I personally requested assistance to help my Dad transfer himself out of bed and into a wheelchair so he could wheel himself down the hall and into the administration office to check himself out. He signed himself out of The Reutlinger and we transferred him by our personal transport van to Shadelands Acute Care in Walnut Creek. Insurance didn't cover his 3 months stay at Shadelands and John Muir Health Care threatened me for taking my Dad out of The Reutlinger without authorization. But apparently money can buy great care. My Dad isn't running marathons , but Shadelands Acute provided the therapy he needed and he is now at home in Walnut Creek, up and walking with a walker, using the toilet, and enjoying life as he should be. My mother has lived here for a little over two years in assisted living. She has also stayed in the attached skilled nursing (SNF) section several times after various medical issues where she required higher level care while she recovered. She has received excellent care in the SNF on all the occasions while there, has recovered quickly and was able to go back to her apartment on the other side. She has most recently been in independent living with no care needs. But there is still help for her there whenever she needs it. Having every level of care available on site is a huge plus. I always know that she will have the exact right care level as she ages and her needs change. I have had experience with many other SNF's in the area with both my parents and this facility is by far my top choice. This is one of the reasons I had mom move into the assisted living section when she was no longer comfortable living on her own. She is always guaranteed a bed in the SNF when needed. The staff is kind and caring and always performs above and beyond my expectations. It hasn't always been perfect. No place is... There was a brief period when she first moved in that there were some staffing issues and the executive director position was in flux. But that is all resolved. Issues do occasionally come up and need to be sorted out. The management is always available and helpful when these situations arise. I can't say enough good things about Julie, the executive director and Jetrey, the head of nursing in assisted living. They go the extra mile to make sure my mom's needs are always met. My 91 year old mom is very happy here and I am comforted to know she is well cared for and is in the best place to live her remaining years. read more

My father spent the last 2-1/2 years in the Reutlinger. He received excellent care in almost all facets of his time there. From the SNF to his residence and later into the memory care area called the Tikva. The staff was caring and gentle. The food was good with right-sized portions. The social activities are positive and kept residents engaged. There is usually music with recitals or concerts that residents could easily attend in a large meeting area w a beautiful baby grand piano. They celebrate many holidays there and honor veterans. The Reutlinger was always clean and orderly. My father was a staff sergeant in the US Airforce and served in the Korean War. He always appreciated a clean house and forced that upon my sisters and I growing up. We took great comfort in the cleanliness of the Reutlinger. My family visited him often throughout a typical week and we noted that this facility truly welcomes families to be apart of the community. read more

Being a caregiver, I have had 4 patients in this skilled nursing facility. Not a fan. If you ring the nursing desk, it takes up to 45min to see someone, saw a gentleman in the hallway screaming for someone to help him get in bed, I told nurse who was standing in hall ignoring him, she told CNA's who were sitting around, one CNA finally went down and told him his CNA was on lunch, she couldn't take 2min to help him. Just ridiculous! They treat people who do not have dementia, as if they do. Very demeaning. Just seems like no one really is held accountable, just a place for workers to socialize and help a patient if they get bored. It's like the twilight zone read more

I have visited this facility a few times in the past, and it has always been a pleasant experience. Social worker Christina was always helpful and friendly. I visited my uncle recently, who was recuperating from surgery. I was surprised at how different this place is now, and not in a good way. Nobody seems to know what's going on. Christina is gone, and there is no one from social services to speak with. Staff look unhappy. We were directed to the head nurse, Tatyana, for questions, and it was an unpleasant encounter, to say the least. She has zero communication skills. She is rude, unprofessional, and yells when talking. She acted annoyed during our conversation. I will not recommend this place to friends when looking for a place for their loved ones. read more

So far not impressed at all. Staff is nice but the skilled nursing facility is REALLY lacking! And since it is a holiday weekend, not sure what my options are. Bed is an air mattress that is so soft I can't get In or out of it with my shoulder replacement. Dinner was inedible. At least they brought me a PB&J sandwich. Rooms are basic with out even a picture on the wall. Rooms are hot and they can't adjust the temperature. Not happy at all. Update at 10 pm (got here at 3:30 pm). They don't have any of my daily meds (glad I brought them with me) and 'found' an emergency pain med. I refuse to stay here. Going home in the morning. read more

The facility is under staffed. Some of the staff does not speak English well. The food is mediocre. And the cooks are limited in what they can do. The staff at the front door are not friendly. The activities and Religous Services are offered but few people attend. One staff member was sexually inappropriate to our family member and we believe she was fired. They do not provide the service they promised. They said two caregivers would be available during the day. Only one care giver has been available. One caregiver at night was promised. Often there are NO caregivers available at night. The facility is clean. It is cleaned every day. read more

My mom over the last few years have had surgeries that required her to go to a rehab hospital to recover. She has been to a couple different ones but this was by far the best. So clean, light and bright. The nurses and other caregivers are kind and friendly, just what my Mom and I needed. Highly recommend, hopefully no more hospital visits for her but this would be at the top of our list if needed. read more

Skilled Nursing at The Reutlinger was above & beyond my expectations during my husband's 6 week stay for post-operative care. The professionalism, nurturing care that was given by staff members gave me peace of mind. I visited him during all hours, very odd hours. I watched not only how my loved one was being cared for, but also the other patients. The staff truly cares. I couldn't do it. The Nurses and CNAs have the patience of saints. Not to mention the team of Physical & Occupational staff. All staff was extremely friendly & pleasant. The Front Desk positions, Dietician & Cooks, Housekeeping, Custodial, the Rabbi, the Social Worker, Grounds Maintenance, Activity Coordinator, Hair Dresser....EVERYONE always greeted & addressed patients & visitors alike with dignity & kindness. Having to be in skilled nursing was not fun. Seeing all of the elders there was kind of hard. Harder was seeing them not being visited. But, I was amazed at how nicely styled the patients hair and clothing was done, everyday. Very rarely did I see pajamas or hospital attire. Ladies had their hair done. And it wasn't a relative coming to help them. It is staff. Staff was always busy. Nobody was sitting around. They were really impressive. It also helped that the staff was always approachable. I can't thank The Reutlinger Staff enough for the care my husband received. It certainly helped him & me alike. We are forever grateful. read more

The majority of the staff that we met are really friendly. They give quality care and sincerely care for the residents here. They always have activities and festivities going on. The dining room tables are decorated like a fancy restaurant setting, flowers, tableware, and colorful linens. The main hallway holds beautiful paintings that some of the residents made. Joy and Loida in particular were so nice and attentive, they were always checking in to see how we were doing and see if we needed anything. Always going out of their way to ensure comfort and needs met. They took great care and took time to clean and serve meals as necessary. They get 5 stars!! read more

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel as a family for the care The Reutlinger Community provided for my dad over the last month. In this stressful time, their professionalism, attention to detail and embracing nature left us feeling secure that dad was receiving the best of care. From the valets and receptionists at the front door, to the nurses, caregivers, therapists, social workers, food staff personnel, operations staff, office staff and administrators, we were always greeted with smiles and all the help we needed. Their expertise, thoughtful and caring attitude made us feel at home, and made dad feel comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. The compassionate way the entire staff approach their job makes a huge difference in the recovery and care of their patients, and the wellbeing of their families. I am in hopes we will not need The Reutlinger Community again, but if we do, I would happily return. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, facility, and group of people to help my dad along in his recovery. His successful return home is thanks to you and your amazing team. read more

I was supposed to stay at Reutlinger for 6 weeks. I was able to get them to consider 2 weeks. I was needing a pic line and an antibiotic for 6 weeks. after 3 days I decided to go home. I am a diabetic but they had no sugar free beverages so I drank regular soda.Every morning they gave me a big glass of orange juice which of course I didn't drink. The first day there I had to ask several times over the course of 7 hrs to check my sugar. I said I was getting really thirsty which is a sign that sugar was high. Finally around midnight this RN checked it and it was 475. She was confused as to how much insulin I needed so I instructed her She told me that they don't check sugar until the morning . I asked her if she realized how dangerous that would've been and that I might have been unresponsive. She got defensive and told me she was also a diabetic...shame on you. Dr Milani came by and I asked him if I could get instruction how to administer the antibiotic at home and he said yes that it was possible. They send in this RN named Tatania and she is practically hysterical that i want to go home She's yelling it's not possible and I need 2 hands!! She got so upset she couldnt show me how administer the antibiotic and left. because of a complication I had to go to San Ramon Regional for a few days Turns out there is a video and the customer service provide great instruction by an RN who made it so easy and I felt very comfortable doing it at home . Was Tatania losing out on some kind of bonus by me leaving?? Additionally there was a patient that at all hours of the day and night she yelled and screamed for help and they did nothing to calm her It was very creepy They also didnt have all my RX so I had it brought from home. This all went on for a week No reflection on Dr Milani who I really like (I've)) ) known him from SR Reg) But only saw him once in 8 days I was never provided with PT which is primary reason why I went there Stay away!!! Also no private rooms. read more

Great place for rehab. My wife broke her hip. We went there after the hospital. Very clean and spacious. No "skilled nursing" odors and cramped space. The physical and occupational therapists were the absolute best. Only reason they didn't get a 5 was waiting for help when first arrived and had to use the bathroom. Maybe to many patients for staff. Best PT. Check out process and follow-up excellent. Nurses also excellent. Food very good. read more

Our father's been here going on two months following leg surgery at John Muir in Walnut Creek. I've spent countless 12 - 16 hour days here with him, assisting staff in all capacities. I've become very educated on the care being provided by all staff members of every shift. I can say without hesitation that this is in fact a wonderful care facility. The people here work very hard, and they care! There are some real gems here working in different capacities. They work extremely hard, and believe me it is a difficult and often thankless job. As we ourselves are nearing discharge to come back home, I wish only to share my sincere appreciation for the Reutlenger nursing staff, CNA's, Administration, the Activities people, Cleaning Crew, Kitchen and Food Staff, the Valet team, Front Desk people, and more. They are very clean, professional and dutiful. The doctors who visit patients are top notch people and give the best care also. This is a nice facility, in a great location, and please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions whatsoever. I have been to a few "nursing homes" before, but I never felt like this was a "nursing home". Partly because there are many levels of care at RCJL and partly because no matter when I came to visit, whether it be to Skilled Nursing, the Alzheimer's ward (Traditions) or for an activity my daughter participated in for our Temple, this place never felt or feels cold, sterile or unwelcoming. The care my Bubbie had here was incredible and she made many connections. The communication and support RCJL offered Toni and my Dad is something I had never heard of before coming from a "home" like this. My Bubbie passed away here on May 18th and we all felt that she was in a loving and caring place with loving and caring staff. I am grateful that her last few years were at such a wonderful facility who treated her with dignity and respect and just as grateful (if not more) that she is finally at peace and is no longer trapped in her own body. read more

My grandmother has lived at Reutlinger for over 5 years. She started in Assisted Living and is now in Skilled Nursing. While I don't wish a nursing home on anyone, Reutlinger is a great place, filled with loving, caring, attentive caretakers. The facilities are beautiful and well maintained. It's one of the few facilities that doesn't have that horrible nursing home smell. The staff are amazing. We live right across the street so my daughters and I come over often. My daughters are young (4 and 2), so not the quietest of human beings. The staff all know them by name, say hello to us. Help us set up things so we can eat dinner with GG (great grandma) or just hang out. Whenever there are health issues, they are on it right away. Luckily, my mother is the one who has to be the decision maker and I get to live in ignorant bliss, but I know she is well cared for. She is happy and she gets to play mahjong! I love my grandmother dearly. She has always been one of my best friends. Knowing that she is safe and cared for makes me very happy. read more

Whenever I drive out to Danville to see my Great Grandma who will be 100 this April I can't help humming the theme song from "Weeds". "Little boxes, on a hillside, little boxes made of tickey tacky" Regardless of the overwhelming feeling of unrequited dreams and regrets you get while driving here, I am very happy my Great Grandma is cared for at the Reutlinger Center. The facility is beautiful and spacious and houses some excellent nurses. Everyone on staff here seem to really care about the residents. The food is also pretty decent. Everyday there are activities for the residents, from painting, to prayer, to trips to the mall. What isn't so great is my Great Grandma's health. She seems to be slowly deteriorating, which is very sad to see. It's very strange to see a woman who was so strong and determined when you were growing up now barely able to lift her head to say hello. She had a great life. I will miss her once she has passed on to the other world. read more

My mom needed rehab after breaking her hip and they were so very accommodating. The staff was great and the therapist even better. Shout out to Mia and Josephine, you both helped my mom get on the road to recovery. She also liked the food and loved the facilities. I have volunteered at this facility multiple times and can't rave enough on how beautiful this place is! The staff as well as the residents are so happy here. There are tons of things to do, great food, and beatiful decor. The place is very well kept up and clean. My favorite is the assisted living activities department and the art room. You can tell the people that work there take a lot of pride in what they do! Usually when I go into elderly homes I get depressed and anxiety, but not here. The place is so big and nice, it's the closest thing to resort living i've ever seen in an elderly home. read more

My mother was at Reutlinger for 3 weeks. When choosing a facility for her, I looked at 5 different skilled nursing homes. 2 of them--I would rather slit my own wrists rather than ever cross their thresholds again. I could not imagine ever having a loved one stay there. The remaining 3 were very nice, but Reutlinger was the nicest by far. I don't know about anyone else, but having a clean bright cheerful place raises my morale incredibly. I can imagine that if I needed to heal, nice surroundings would be even more important. Reutlinger not only has lovely ambiance, but the staff was also wonderful. Upon admission, I filled out a laundry inventory and her clothing was labelled. We were visited by the head nurse, who gave me her business card, and the physical therapist, who also gave me her card. We met the dietician, who reviewed Mom's dietary needs (another card). I left feeling that Mom was very well cared for. And she was. Mom had a leg wound, and their wound nurse changed the dressing daily, which has been helping with healing. I had lunch there twice, and the food was nice (I LOVED the egg salad!). The day I needed to take Mom to a Dr. appointment during lunch, they had food waiting for us when we returned--very accommodating. The physical and occupational therapy that Mom received was outstanding. A week before Mom was discharged one of the therapists came to the house to review the set up and make sure things were safe for Mom. That was a really good experience and it left me time to make any changes that were needed. I am so grateful that Reutlinger had space for my Mom. I could not have asked for better care. BTW--Mom was at skilled nursing as a Medicare patient. To the best of my knowledge, Medicare pays every skilled nursing facility exactly the same amount of money each day, whether it is one you would slit your wrists over or one that is lovely, supportive and accommodating, like Reutlinger. So, think about it--Medicare is paying the entire bill, and facilities range from the sublime to nightmarish. Reutlinger is one of the sublime ones. If they have a bed when you need it, take it. read more

Mom lived here for 3 years. She was 104 when she died. The care she received at this assisted living facility was excellent. There were lots of activities, stimulation and a great caring staff. The nursing care is great. Traditions, the locked unit for people who will wonder, is fantastic. My mom could be here and I no longer had to worry as I did when she lived at home. read more

My mom moved to Reutlinger at age 90 from the East coast. She arrived with a positive attitude, but she also was embraced by a kind and respectful staff from day 1. After being seated with lovely table mates in the open and well lit dining hall, our mom slowly met other residents in the assisted living area. She went to the daily morning exercise directly after breakfast and then picked and chose other activities and entertainment for the day. She was much more stimulated then when she was living alone in her home. My mother always felt her requests were treated respectfully and with kindness. It was obvious to our family that our mother felt very secure and comfortable at Reutlinger. She raved about the professional staff!! This of course made our lives easier too! Our family will always be grateful to the staff at Reutlinger. I would highly recommend the assisted living at Reutlinger to any family whose family member is no longer able to live safely on their own in their own home. In our opinion, it is the entire staff and how they are trained to interact w residents that distinguishes Reutlinger. In addition to the assisted living section, our mother also stayed in the skilled nursing wing after a hospital stay. This convenience and continuity of care at a stressful time was extremely helpful. I can also recommend the skilled nursing section. read more

Update on a previous post. My mother in law has been at the Reutlinger skilled nursing section for over 3 years now. We visit her unannounced about 3 times per week. We find her in clean clothing most of the time, with her hair looking fairly nice and clean. The staff there is absolutely wonderful and caring. We see how they interact with the patients and they show the patients great care and compassion.The menus and food are awesome and they have many different activities and treats daily. No, it is not a nice place to live, as no skilled nursing home is, but if you have to be in skilled nursing, this is the best place to be. It is always sad to see the old people there literately just waiting to die, sad to say, but they always seem to be content with being there. They do take private and or med-I-Cal. read more

I had the pleasure of recovering at Reutlinger after my knee surgery in August 2016. The staff is wonderful. While I can't remember everyone's name, I can say that I don't believe I would have recovered as well as I did had I not been there. It is difficult to have to transition from hospital to nursing home, but everyday I felt as if I were at home. Thank you all for the excellent care and friendship you all gave to me during my stay, I would recommend this facility to anyone that needs excellent care for whatever reason they may need.
