Purpose of my visit: Celebration of Life of my high school PE teacher in the Fireside Room. It was a nice gathering of former students from Oakland Tech and Oakland High, friends and family of Marvelous Marva Nielsen aka Mrs. E. Although I did not take a tour of this gated community, and it is well-maintained, the area seems to be a peaceful one. Marva was the "longest serving golf marshall, serving about 14 years" in that capacity. She took care of the golfers and the golf courses. As hard as it will be to leave our longtime East Bay home, we recognize that a single-level home in…read morea community designed especially for seniors--with all the amenities we currently have (and then some!)--would be a wise move for us as we approach our 80s. We are delighted to have discovered The Glen at Heather Farm because it is surrounded by a quiet, lovely neighborhood; offers access to beautiful hiking trails; is in proximity to Walnut Creek's shops and restaurants; and provides nearby access to the outstanding John Muir Health medical center. Making such a large life change will be difficult, but we look forward to forming new friendships and becoming part of a dynamic, caring community. Because construction won't be finished for another year or more, we have time to prepare for this next big step. In designing the property, the developers of The Glen are trying to be environmentally friendly, something that very much appeals to us. The staff has made us feel welcome and provided all the information we needed to decide to move there, yet no one has ever pressured us in any way. We look forward to getting to know our future neighbors, both new residents of The Glen and those in the adjacent neighborhood, and we are pleased that The Glen is encouraging new residents to volunteer in the local Walnut Creek community.

Patti does an incredible job staying closely involved with every resident and keeping family members informed and updated. Her dedication and compassion are remarkable. The staff is outstanding. Enrique always went out of his way to accommodate our family member's many special food requests with kindness and patience. Marie, although she works in the business office, consistently went above and beyond to help and support our family member as well. Most importantly, the staff was just incredible. From the front desk, to the dining room staff to the med techs/support and starting with management. Keli, Joanne, Fleta - what can I say?! Everyone knew my Dad as well as my sisters and I and always took the time to sit and chat with us and effectively address any concerns/questions. Even more importantly, my Dad was happy there. We started him in Independent Living and eventually added in Assisted Living services. I have to say that I have had the opposite experience in a different home for my Mom so I've seen two opposite situations. Atria Valley View is just fantastic!!

They have no social conscience as to what they sound like inside of peoples houses far off. There is a long patio of tables, we can see on their website, that they could sit at to talk, but they choose to be intrusive and dangle at the very end in chairs, projecting loudly many at a time, all over the valley. There was no help from the manager when a few neighbors tried to make her aware of the problem. We do not recommend this place to live in.

My mom was independent, my dad needed…read morea lot of assistance, and they wanted to share an apartment, which they were able to do easily with the flexible levels of care. When my dad passed, my mom moved to another beautiful apartment and continued to thrive. She loves to play daily games (bingo and rummikub) and share meals and social gatherings with her close friends. In the rare cases that she needed extra assistance medically, the staff was attentive, kind and caring and they communicated well with me. The activity directors have been wonderful and creative, making everyday life fun and active for the residents. We've also enjoyed and developed relationships with many of the staff members.
