Rossmoor is retirement community in Walnut Creek, CA. I have never lived there. In the last 20+ years, I have come to visit relatives, and as part of my job to bring medical goods and Rx drugs for patients who live there. It's a quiet community. There is some speeding down Rossmoor Parkway, but that's a long road for doing 25-mph. Some of the reviews talk about security, and they're 100% right. In the old days, say 20-25 yrs ago, security would screen visitors better. Maybe it's just who's on duty. But the guards would ask for ID, ask where you're going, and call the resident to confirm your story. Geez, it was like trying to get inside Travis AFB! Last week when I was there, the guard just waved me in. In general, it seems like a nice place to live. Shopping center across the road. Walnut Creek has two large hospitals, Kaiser and John Muir Medical Center. Also, you're close to major freeways Route 24 and I-680.

Horrible retirement place as they charge you overpriced values and prices just to live here and provide zero service for services you pay for( Handyman charges you 250 a year and Chris and the gang don't bother fixing broken toilets or providing light to blind residents and choose to not care and expect yiu to be satisfied w deplorable and horrendous idea of service! and behind well manicured and well looking lawns lie deep secrets of prejudice, discrimination, transphobia, presumed homophobia, and illegal and unethical practices just to try and live peacefully out your retirement, which you earned for forty plus years of community service(Never come here and immediately seek housing and safety elsewhere cuz no one cares to address problems going on for years as they all CEO Tim o Keefe and Paul Donovan and Rose assistant to CEO and administration Karen and others choose to ignore systemic growing problems! Do not ever spend a penny here if you live yiyr parent or self and be reminded they try and cover up their ineptitude by blaming their clients for incomplete work and chosen discriminatory practices( if you choose to move here you are gonna risk early death so immediately go elsewhere as things might look nice w well cared for lawns and well taken golf courses but staff and employees think they have right to choose to discriminate and no one responsible for their choices( Hold them publicly accountable and seek refuge at another retirement hone :)

My in-laws have been living in Rossmoor for about a year now, and my wife and I have visited and stayed with them on a few occasions. What I like most about this community is that its residents seem genuinely happy to be living here. It's not at all what you think of when you hear "retirement community." They have activities aplenty for its residents - gym, lap pool, heated pool, outdoor pool, bocce ball, golf, driving range, putting course, movie theater, and during the summer months, a farmer's market comes by every Friday morning. Not too shabby to live like this during your retirement years. My wife and I took a walk around a few of the golf course holes, and every person we passed greeted us warmly and wished us a nice walk. Again, these golden year residents seem really happy to be here, as are my in-laws, so Rossmoor must be doing something right.

Spring in Rossmoor outside my front door.

I am 57 and bought my co op at 55. You can not beat the value or my view. The neighbors are friendly and quiet. Although I work I take advantage of the fitness center.

    Happy to be...

I attended a tour of the Pleasanton facility and besides being impressed with the facility itself, the presentation was excellent. My husband and I attended our "informational brunch" in November and again had a very positive experience. Lots of information, presented concisely and any and all questions were answered in a straightforward manner. There's nothing hard sell/ pushy about these presentations. Following that brunch we met with our residency counselor to figure out what next steps would best suit our situation. She has been excellent! Very patient in answering our questions, showing us the various unit floor plans and discussing our options. She's very knowledgeable about the entire process, of course, but she also understands that making the decision to move into this type of residence represents a significant change for most people and is both empathetic and encouraging. To summarize, our experience to date with The Glen at Heather Farms has been very positive.

The entire staff is super friendly and attentive, and as others on Yelp! have noted, the facility and grounds are beautiful and meticulously cared for. My aunt has a sunny top-floor apartment that is large and has mountain views. Other apartments we toured had patios with lovely garden views or other amenities. When we toured independent living communities what struck us most is how institutional so many feel. Not The Heritage. All of the common areas are beautifully furnished/carpeted or landscaped and, as my aunt loves that the restaurant uses real tablecloths and cloth napkins (she also really appreciates that Newton's, the restaurant, has set dining hours, which means there are always lots of people sit with and talk to). Lastly, as the relative who lives closest and helps manage her affairs, the front desk staff have been excellent at letting me know when my aunt has required medical assistance or if there's a matter they think I might be able to assist her with. She's recently begun to need some regular in-home assistance and the management team has a home care provider they contract with and have been very helpful getting the right level of assistance set up. Bottom line: The Heritage has consistently offered five-star service and accommodation for the six years my aunt has lived there.

Technically a board and care, but more on the level of a memory care with great staff, excellent food, almost daily live music and tons of activities. After experiencing seven other local care homes with less than adequate care over a four year period of time for my elderly mother, discovering The Carnelian was a blessing. My only regret is that we did not begin our care home quest at their doors. The facility is a bit of a unicorn in that they are larger than the usual board and care facility, having around 30 beds, and have three distinct tiers of care. One tier is for residents who do not need much assistance with the tasks of daily living. An intermediate tier provides care for residents who need more help and a third tier provides total care. The staff is extremely capable and can handle and provide this wide range of care. For example, care is provided for those who may only need medication reminders to those who are immobile and need help with all aspects of daily life: feeding, bathing, dressing and transferring. Not only is the large staff capable, they are friendly, kind, gentle, patient, loving and caring. Unlike many of the local board and care facilities we experienced, you will never hear an angry word, see an impatient gesture or experience an unprofessional or sloppy approach to patient care at The Carnelian. My mother was previously a resident and had very poor experiences at Diablo Assisted Living (15 Glen Creek Lane, Walnut Creek), The Concord Royale, Abraham Rest Home, Immaculate Home and Paradise Villa Sr. Care II. The administrator and manager of The Carnelian does a very careful analysis and intake of information on the prospective resident and this results in a spot-on care plan for the individual's needs, usually before move-in. The staff are very respectful and caring toward the resident families and work as a team with them and with outside medical providers to achieve the best care for the residents. The pricing is higher than most board and care facilities, but their care is superior and they are never understaffed which is the case with so many smaller board and care homes. Smaller facilities usually have the bare minimum of employees required by the State of California. At previous facilities, I often worried that the staff would not have the physical strength and capability to transfer my mother when she was weak, ill or injured. This will never be a consideration at The Carnelian. There is usually a waiting list at The Carnelian, so I would advise securing your place on the list with a deposit as soon as you tour the facility. It might take a few months or longer because the residents don't want to leave their comfortable accommodations and loving staff at The Carnelian.
