Dr Hayes took the time to make sure my prescription was right including for progressives and computer use. Staff was helpful in selecting frames. While there was a scratch in the lens when coming in, they caught this and put a rush on a replacement. They were also very reasonably priced when providing discounts on lens-only orders. Very communicative through the whole process. So far super happy. They've also been able to provide good care to my mom who has a history of glaucoma and macular degeneration. Strongly recommend for both speciality services as well as general eye care. read more

Dr Hayes is a nice enough guy, but dealing with the front office is a nightmare. Most of my family has gone to Total Vision over the years, and each of them ended up severing ties because they were exhausted after dealing with an unorganized, forgetful and rude staff. The last remaining member left because after years of going back and forth with a incorrect bill, and hearing the office say they took care of it, yet the charge re-appearing the very next month ... we had enough. We gave the manager an ultimatum, either: 1) we'll pay your bill and not come back 2) you guys figure out your billing system and stop charging us for your mistakes They chose 1) So we will be looking for a different Optometrist, and I would advise that you do so as well. read more

1. Messed up my sunglasses order. When I picked it up it was a different sunglasses. I had to wait for the correct one to arrive. Unbelievable. I was extra patient about this mistake. Driving without sunglasses prescription for another weeks. 2. I requested many times to save the old lenses from my branded sunglasses. Lab never safe them! 3. Came in to order sunglasses. I need to get an eyes check. Why can I use my previous prescription. It worked last year!!!! I got a new sunglasses/ glasses every year. 4. I had a great experience here this morning with the staff and Dr. Emily Thai. The pretesting was thorough and the tech explained all the different machines to me before just shoving my head into the machine and pressing buttons (intraocular pressure, autorefractor, retinal images). Dr. Thai also made sure to take her time to double check my prescription, especially because I wear prism in my glasses and it usually takes extra time to get it right. I appreciated how she explained all the results from the pretesting to me - in my experience, most other places I've been to disregard it. She also went over the health of my eye and explained to me why I might be a suspect for glaucoma in the future. I never felt rushed and was able to ask questions without pressure. Horrible office. Avoid this place at all costs. They messed up my contacts order and told me to "try it out". When it didn't work I tried to get a replacement pair for three weeks. Spoke to 4 different people. Never got a call back and they never ordered the contacts. When I asked them to email me my prescription so I could take my business elsewhere it was just radio silence. I came to this optical shop reluctantly, not knowing that was huge and with a great variety of frames. A colleague recommended it to me after my unsuccessful attempt to find affordable (or at least almost totally covered by my insurance), cool, modern frames in either red of dark pink...and only here I got my fuchsia glasses! I did not do the optical exam here as I have my usual eye doctor, but I came with prescription in hand to find out a place that I would not have imagined exists in Rancho Bernardo: spacious, modern, free drinks for the customers, comfy sofas (not the usual ugly Salvation Army type of furniture you encounter in many business in the area). And then...I was simply amazed by the collection of brands from high end to lower almost unknown ones. I was able to spend an hour and a half trying out all the frames I wanted and taking pictures of each frame. No questions asked (only the occasional let us know if you need help). Finally I got the cutest glasses on earth...Guess Marciano...for kids! My fuchsia glasses were finally mine in less than a week. Quick service, efficient, friendly and welcoming. read more

I've been a customer/patient here on 2 different occasions but I will not be returning. My main reason; their customer service has tanked recently. I've called during normal business hours multiple times just to schedule an exam and to buy new frames but nobody answers and it just goes to voicemail. The one time I was able to connect, I was placed on hold and forgotten about. You can just tell from the demeanor in their voice when you call they are not interested in helping you. I have been a patient here for many years. They used to be so great. Personable staff and doctors. Not anymore! Let me list the ways: 1. They don't answer the phone. Every time I call it goes to voicemail. I leave a message. And have never received a call back since they started doing this. 2. Because of number 1, I had to drive to the location to make an appointment. Are you serious?! Let me say it again, I HAD TO DRIVE TO RB TO MAKE AN EYE EXAM APPOINTMENT FOR MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE THEY DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE. 2. I had an appointment scheduled for me. Great. I received a text confirmation and I confirmed. Drive to the appointment and they were closed! Then got a message the next day I missed my appointment. WHAT! No phone call to apologize. Nothing. Took 4 tries to make an appointment. 3. Now I'm sitting in the office, had to drive here again, because 24 hours after my daughters eye exam there is still no prescription in the computer. They assured me they would email me the scrip. Of course I tried calling. But you can already guess how that went. Have been sitting here for 30+ Minutes. UNACCEPTABLE. Still don't have it as the dr is with a patient. It's a shame because I used to love this place and would recommend it to anyone who asked. I have called 3 times to schedule annual exam for my kids. I've been put on hold 3 times for at least 15 minutes before just giving up.

So disappointed with Total Vision. Their employees are not well trained nor do they exhibit any professionalism towards their patients. They performed a test I did not request nor approve and charged me for it - in the past, they would ask first re: this test. Side conversations and lack of attention to details gave me little confidence they were getting my order correctly. I've called 3 times in the last week re: contacts w a promise of a return call...no call yet. I'll be looking for a new eye doctor. read more

I had a very bad experience.A Month back had my eye exam done and when I called them for my glasses,Alice picked up the phone after two hours waiting.She said we have no idea about your glasses. We are trying to find from the lab. She hung the phone and in spite of my calling again she never attended me. I gave this place a 5 star review 7 years ago when I first found them. I feel like I need to change my review because unfortunately their administration has gone way down. Dr. Hayes is great but the admin team does not have their act together. I made an appointment a year in advance. As the appointment got closer, I received two emails and a text message confirming my appointment. I drove down there for My appointment and they were closed.... I called and left a voicemail. When they opened back up, no one called to apologize- I had to call them to reschedule. Then I get a text and an email saying "you missed your appointment". I just responded and said "I hope you're joking". They also charge an arm and a leg for a new pair of glasses. They used to make it really hard to get a prescription to go anywhere else but luckily they've eased that (but not without giving you attitude). When I booked my appointment I just said I wanted the routine check up. They do a bunch of tests (even though the glaucoma one couldn't "recognize my eye"). And then after my appointment, Evonne (one of the admin) goes "ok you owe $39 for one of the tests we did". I said "Um what? I did not consent to that". She waived it because I complained. I told her they shouldn't just run that test on people and then tell them after it's a $39 fee. She said "oh well that's our new policy". So BEWARE. If you don't want to get stuck with any surprise fees, make sure you ask before they do anything. They really need to get it together over there. After 7 years, I'm going to look for a new doctor. read more

Received a notice that they failed to encrypt data on a server and that my sons name, address, birthday were revealed to a hacker. Why is that data held unencrypted? That is basic cyber security. If they can't do something basic like password protect and encrypt your info, can they be trusted with writing a prescription for glasses or contacts? read more

Location: This place is on clairemont mesa in the complex with the poki one half and Carl's jr. Atmosphere: This place is huge. They have lots of space to walk around and plenty of seating. It is very bright and very clean. Service: 5/5 The receptionists were both extremely nice and very helpful. They helped answered any questions on your paperwork and got me in quick. The opto-technician (not sure exact title) was very thorough. Explained everything in detail and was easy to talk to. They did a good job to sanitize and keep everything clean and professional. I met with Dr. Hayes and he was very easy going and listened to my request. It felt great to be informed and walk through a very streamlined process. This was my first time with this doctor and he did not disappoint. Dr G was professional and patient. I am going through a transition of needing progressive lens and it's frustrating. He saw me a couple times and tried couple different lenses. Ultimately I didn't choose lenses because I couldn't get used to the multi focal type. No biggie, they helped me find glasses instead. I've now had the glasses a few days and are still getting used to them. All in all the service was always good, the staff was helpful and I'd highly recommend these guys. read more

Total Vision Care has completely gone down hill. I was a patient for years. Once Roberta left, everything fell apart. They are constantly making mistakes and errors. They actually labeled my contacts wrong last time and I wore the wrong one in each eye. I had a headache that whole month. It wasn't until I looked at the boxes and understood that it was their incompetence and carelessness that caused this issue. The new front desk staff, especially Lee, has a terrible attitude! Ugh... really horrible experience! My son went in 4 weeks ago for an exam and ordered glasses at that time. After my second follow up today on where are the glasses??? FINALLY someone called and figured out that they'd never placed the order. UNBELIEVABLE!! Of course they had no problem taking my money 4 weeks ago. Dr. Limpiado is knowledgeable, personable and caring. I initially saw her at the Carmel Valley location due to some discomfort in my eye and followed her to the Rancho Bernardo location for a eye procedure and follow ups. She is very thorough and keeps her patients informed of what she is seeing. I've never had issues with my eye and when something arose, it terrified me. I have been going there since I retired from the military because of one my civilian military doctors went there. He highly recommended it and Dr. Hayes has been great. It was just this last year when everything has seemed to go downhill. Not sure what happen but not good. I got my appointment rescheduled because Dr. Hayes was not going to be in the office. Got to my appointment and everything went well. Then I went to order my new glasses since I got a new prescription. The optician recommended a few pairs based on my current glasses. Nailed it on the first pair but I looked at a few others. Now I was told it would be more than two weeks due to COVID and the upcoming holiday. Which is normal they have always taken about two weeks. Well that being said it was over 14 weeks before I got my glasses. You say that is not possible, well it is and if would have been much longer if I hadn't called the office and then sent an e-mail. I did get a text after two weeks stating they were delayed since the lens failed inspection. So I wait then after I month I call and was told that they flipped my prescription at the lab. Then I call my insurance provider VSP and they called the lab and say they hadn't been told about the problem. Then they refund the additional amount I paid for the copay and frames. Then I wait a few more weeks and keep following up with VSP instead of the office. Then I finally get a call from the new office manager she asks me about what happen and if I know where my frames are located. I forgot to mention that after the first month I supposedly talked to the new regional manager. So then after the 12 weeks VSP says the glasses are done but need my frames. I was told by the regional manager that they would not need my frames they already measured them. I called the week after the 14th week passed and they told me that they just got them in with the last few days. I am like that is great that you called me to tell me that my glasses that are 3 months overdue are in. So I schedule an appt to pick them up. I call that day and get an earlier appt which was nice. Then when no one was at the front desk and then they finally come up to me. They ask what I was there for and I tell them I need to pick up my glasses. So they search for them all over the place finally find them and bring them to the lobby. I don't get seated to check fitting but they do ask how they fit. They were a little tight so they take them back and do an adjustment. Then bring me a DNKY hard case for my Nike glasses. I told them I would take the bag which is normally what I get. Then I left. No one apologized for my wait and all the headahces I had to deal with. They didn't even acknowledge if I didn't check up on them I would have never got them. They do work great and I am finally able to work on my computer without having to take off my glasses. So the prescription is great and so are the frames. Just stinks that I had to wait so long. read more

Well I'll start with this...my eye exam was wonderful! The Dr was thorough, patient, very attentive and overall amazing! The technology they use is advanced and I felt like i was in great hands. Great hands until I got to the sales lady Kathy. My eyes were being dilated but I was looking at some glasses (while I could see) in the meantime. While I was looking an older gentleman came in to get his glasses fixed and Kathy told him that she was with a client and he'd have to wait 15-20min "can you wait?" The guys response was slightly delayed and she told him in a very authoritative voice "the correct answer is yes." The guy just sat there looking down and never responded. Instantly my guard went up and now I know what kind of person I'm dealing with. Fast forward 10min I asked Kathy if I could have my prescription in case I wanted to look somewhere else for glasses. She told me and I quote "we have done such a good job for you, your dr was thorough and we've taken care of you, why would you want to go somewhere else? Your insurance is great and we have labs that work so hard to provide a great service for you." I told her it was nothing personal I just wanted to review all my options. She said ok but busied herself so she looked frazzled. So I left the dr's office and could barely see and she handed me my receipts that I had to ask for numerous times and once my eyes cleared up a few hrs later I looked through the papers and there was no prescription. That freakin figures! I honestly wasn't surprised cause she didn't want me going anywhere else to get glasses. The next morning I called to let them know I was picking up my prescription and Kathy answered. She said I could pick it up anytime. I showed up and she handed me my prescription and I walked out. I was willing to let my anger from yesterday go. I got my kid buckled in and was about to leave when I looked at the prescription and it wasn't signed by the dr and there was no license number. Seriously!!! I marched in there and told the poor front desk girl how pissed I was. First about the poor man from yesterday then her shaming me about wanting to get glasses elsewhere now sending me off with an unsigned prescription! As I was talking Kathy came up and asked what was going on and I said everything and held back no punches. Kathy is rude beyond belief! She needs intense human relations and customer service training. I asked Kathy how long she's been in this business and she said 30years. Soooo you are well versed in this businesses practices and protocols and you know that I need a signature on a prescription in order to get glasses. She said yes, she did know that and she was sorry. She wasn't sorry, she was only sorry I was there yelling at her in her office confronting her on her bad behavior in front of co-workers and patients and that she got caught. A mature adult who cares about business would be forthcoming with all the information and provide what the customer/patient needs not continually waste their time. I'm a little bit conflicted about Total Vision Care. I LOVED my previous eye doctor in another city. So when I moved to San Diego, she recommended Dr. Hayes, who she had gone to school with. I made an appointment and was immediately impressed with Dr. Hayes. I have been a returning for almost 4 years and really like the staff and facility. My problem is with the $50 "contact lens fitting fee." I have been wearing contacts since I was 13. I have had the same prescription for 5 years. I have been Dr. Hayes patient for almost 4. I do not understand why I must pay for this fee EVERY TIME, even if nothing medically has changed. My insurance pays the regular office visit and exam so they are getting paid either way. The last visit I tried to dispute it and they wouldn't waive the fee. I believe is supporting good healthcare professionals but this fee irks me and seems a little shady. read more

it doesn't matter what the office looks like, what they have to offer if customer service IS NOT THERE it gets no stars. When someone is calling for their prescription FIND A WAY TO SEND IT TO THEM, theyre only option should not be to only come in WHY so they can feel bad that they're even asking for it.The law states they should receive a paper copy at the time of appointment anyways. ALSO when someone orders glasses they should be OFFERED ALL OPTIONS TOWARDS LENSES, to be told that you guys do not offer options because "the patient will get overwhelmed and does not want to hear it" is so wild to me that someone would even think to talk like that to someone who is brand new to glasses so now they are completely traumatized! read more
