First I should say Dr. Coleman is 5 star. I would recommend her to everyone who needs an Optometrist. That said, the company that runs the practice is questionable. I have serious concerns about how they maintain patient information; its a borderline HIPAA violation. They require numerous forms be filled out, many duplicative; and you might consider having an Attorney review them before signing them and waiving so many of your rights. Despite filling out the forms online before the visit, the practice still requires you to sign more forms when you arrive and it seems the staff there has no way to retrieve them. So basically, your private information is out there somewhere unknown, and you have no idea how it is being used and who really has access to it. You should realize, EyeLux is a big corporation. Because of her outstanding service to her patients, I suggested to her that she seek another practice, or that she open her own office, rather than work for a company that requires you to waive your rights as a patient, asks repetitive questions, and doesn't appear to have any answers as to where your private information resides. Excellent Doctors. I give it 4.5. Some of the front desk technicians, not all. Could improve in the customer service. They are not rude, just need room for improvement. Update: Doctors are great, but staff can't answer questions and only stick to a script. These admin and scheduling assistants could be easily replaced with an automated system. Specially Pearl, who is extremely rude and only repeats herself. She is unable to hold a conversation and speak to the patient. I really do question her IQ. Reason why I am now rating them at a 2 star. It was great seeing doctor Michael, but the owners seriously need to consider giving Pearl back of the house duties or letting her go. read more

This review goes to Dr. Cooper! I have high myopia and astigmatism and was quite worried that things are getting worse. Dr. Cooper reassured me that my eyes are healthy, and I especially liked his confidence. He has more than 20+ years of experience as an optometrist and attended one of the top optometry schools, which are things that I value while researching for an eye doctor. He did not disappoint and frankly way exceeded my expectations. He did not rush during the exam, explained everything thoroughly, and even patiently answered all my questions! Specifically, he addressed the lingering dry eye issues for me. I highly recommend him if you need a professional, knowledgeable, and caring doctor. I cannot recommend him enough, especially when you need someone as experienced as him to reassure you if you also have high myopia issues (-8). First off, the guy at the front desk is horribly rude and is not a good greeter. His lack of customer service skills are horrible. Finally, I was able to see the optometrist. I was having double vision and she said I had dry eyes. She gave me some dry eye drops and I left. I went back to her twice more and she still thought I just had a dry eye. I went for a second opinion, and this optometrist thought it was glaucoma. It turned out that I needed to get a glaucoma procedure right away. How could my optometrist not see that? I went to Eyelux to order a pair of standard reading glasses. These are the glasses I received today. The lenses are extremely thick and heavy. They are unwearable. I have average 64-year-old eyes with no eye diseases. I'm very disappointed that the young man who ordered these glasses, did not show me or tell me that these were the lenses I was going to be receiving ( what my insurance covers). Had I known, I would have not ordered these glasses. They are too heavy to wear. Now I must go through my insurance company to try to get a pair that I can actually wear. When I picked them up today, even the gal who helped me said they were heavy. I told her I was very disappointed that I was not better informed prior to ordering these. read more

I was a patient here for a long time but the experiences got worse and worse with the office staff over time. I think Dr Brooke Coleman is great but I can't handle the incompetent office staff any more. Today they cancelled my appointment because I'm considered a New Patient after 3 years of no visit and it takes 15-20 minutes to file New Patient paperwork so I'm not eligible for a 4p appointment. I prematurely sent a review on 6/17, however this does not take away the professionalism of Dr. Brooke Coleman. What I'd like to say is that I received an email on 6/24 and 6/27 indicating that my eyewear had arrived. Not one single phone call in regards to this ( I checked my recent phone calls, NONE). Luckily I had changed my plans to not go out of town. However, today, Saturday 7/1, I went to pick up my order just to find out the office CLOSED. I'm sure this may be due to the 4th of July weekend. No email regarding this either. On a side note, I went in one Friday afternoon to purchase a pair of Sunshades however when I drove up, I saw at least 5-6 employees heading to their car. It appears the office closed at 5pm and they are definitely not short staffed. I said that to say, that with all their employees, not one single person made a phone call. This to me is unprofessional and an email alone should not be sufficient enough to contact their customers. This is truly disappointing. I should have went by the previous reviews in regards to customer service. There was only one receptionist that smiled and was very welcoming. I can't say that of the others. They really were not welcoming, almost seemed like they were having a bad day. I normally don't let that get to me, however I could not let this one go. The receptionists are indifferent and incompetent. They said they couldn't find my insurance information, but never took the time to see the insurance information I was showing them. I had to ask them three times of double check the information I was giving them before they actually paid attention. They kept us waiting for 30 minutes just to say they were still very busy to complete our charts and that we could call to do this another time. No courtesy. Very disappointed in the front office. We have been seeing Dr. Coleman for several years and absolutely LOVE her. I recently called to schedule an appointment and the person on the line was not able to find my insurance information, even after I provided it over the phone. I asked if I could proceed with scheduling the appointment and they could take a copy of my insurance card when I come in or I would pay cash. The response I got was that they were unable to proceed in making an appointment. I was blown away that they would turn down a patient who 1) Has insurance and 2) offered to pay cash if they could not verify. I get the notice that my prescription is ready for pick up. I drove 30 min from my house during their business hours and there is a on the door saying that they closed early. So I wait a few days to the next week. I just drove there again 30 min from my house and there again, is a note on the door that says that they closed early!!! I have driven now back-and-forth to this business to pick up my prescriptions twice and have not been able to pick it up because they just decided to close the doors early. The best eye exam and service... ever. Seriously, Dr Jaquelin Le is amazing! I know what I'm talking about... I've worn eyeglasses since second grade. In 5th grade, my optometrist told my dad to get me contacts because if the house burned down I wouldn't be able to find my way out without my glasses. Finally ditched the coke-glasses and got gas permeable contacts in high school after begging for them. Then, in 2006, I got life-changing LASIK - wow. AMAZING. Simply the BEST gift I've every given myself. (See my review on Caster Laser Center) I often tell people to JUST DO IT if they are a candidate. 20/20 vision after a lifetime of terrible eyesight, heavy glasses that fog up at every time I sweat? Now I was informed that the 20/20 vision will decline by mid-40's, so I'm aware that eventually I'll need glasses again. Of course, I hope my LASIK holds for a looooong time, and so far, so good. Currently, my vision isn't as "razor sharp" as before, though I see perfectly fine. I first noticed it during pregnancy and then, well, I was lazy and just put it off... because I had such great vision I was naughty and hadn't gotten an eye exam since 2008 thinking my vision was great, so what's to examine? Yikes. Deplorable! Not a good idea to skip the annual eye exam! Back to Dr. Le... State of the art technology here. Lovely staff who were on top of my insurance benefits. Dr. Le was so thorough; She patiently explained all the aspects she was examining. So she's super proactive in helping patients advocate for their own health by empowering us with knowledge. I learned a lot during this exam. Turns out, I absolutely need to be seen regularly due to family history and some suspicious optic results. My LASIK is holding and I can see just fine, but Dr Le determined that my my left eye slipped to 20/25. She gave me options if I want a teeeny prescription to get that addictive crystal sharp vision again. (Yes, please!) So I opted to get transition glasses and prescription sunglasses. BOY. I love them! She warned me I might start wearing them all the time because it sharpens my vision, and yes, she was right. (no, wearing this tiny prescription won't mess up my vision. Neither will not wearing the prescriptions. Just sharpens what I see...) Ashley helped me pick out the perfect pairs... she was also very patient, listened to what I liked and had some awesome suggestions for me that I loved. She even adjusted all my current sunglasses and glasses I brought to compare what I already had so I could get something different. (so now none of my sunglasses are crooked. LOL ) Now that's customer service. Eyelux has a huge selection of high-end luxury brand eyewear (Kate Spade, Michael Kors, etc.) and some well-priced options too! Walked in for my appointment and was treated poorly. No hello or any general kindness from the man at the front desk, just "name please". Very rude and indifferent to my being there. I did not feel welcomed and then was told I could not have just a contact lenses appointment even though that was what I was scheduled for. Dr. Coleman is smart and professional but the opticians and the front staff are a different story. They lack customer service skills and make a lot of mistakes by overcharging you and not using your insurance benefits correctly. After having my last eye exam here, I was told by the optician that I would hear back from them regarding a quote for new frames/lens within the next 2-3 days. Well it's been 2 months and nothing! I called this morning to check the status and was told they left a message for me after my eye exam. A big lie! They were just trying to cover up for never following up. Wow. I was thoroughly impressed by their services. I was looking for a new optometry since I started working in SD and came upon EyeLux on Yelp. The location is conveniently close to work, so I decided to make an appointment online. They reached out to me soon after I submitted my request and told me everything I needed to know to prepare for my first appointment. I really like how efficient they are and how easy they make things for me! The place itself is very clean and bright. They definitely have one of the newest eye exam technologies, and the assistant that performed all the exams on me was so friendly. They really made me feel right at home as a first timer. Dr. Chou was the optometrist that I saw. He's definitely one of the nicest and the most understanding doctors that I've met! He explained in details (but in words that I can comprehend) of what each of the exams was for and what each of the images was about. I could tell that he genuinely cares for what I had to say and loves what he does. After the exam, the lady that assisted me with my insurance benefits was also very friendly and helpful! They made everything so easy and transparent. I also really appreciate how they didn't try to do extra exams and tried to charge you more without consulting with you, I have definitely had that happen to me before. Poor customer service. It's seemed like I even owe them something when I ask. All were on the phone and I understand that but they were all just looking at me. One woman asked what I need and seemed irritated going over her computer and left me standing. Norma was my optician, and she helped me get my glasses all set up, and ready to order. She has helped me several times, and is so efficient. I felt I was in very good hands. Norma was very thorough, and explains all my options, to get the best vision possible. I highly recommend Eye Lux in 4S Ranch. Dr. Cooper is such a gifted doctor, and an asset to his field. I went in to switch my frames which broke under warranty. When I walked in I saw a male employee at the front desk in a mask. The female customer in front of me was also wearing a mask. I did not have a mask and I thought we were done with masks, and it was just an individual's choice now. The female employee at a small side desk was also in a mask, but she was working with a customer who was wearing his mask as a chin diaper. The chin diaper customer talk to her for about 5 minutes without pulling the mask up. Then the guy walks out of the store, again with his mask on his chin. When it was my time to be helped, I walked over to the girl at the small desk. She asked me to put on a mask, I said I did not want to but I moved my chair back six feet away from her. She said I had to put a mask on. I asked why the previous guy did not need to wear one, only as a chin diaper. She said he was trying on glasses so that made it okay. I asked how that made any sense and she said it did not. I again said I was not putting on a mask. She asked me to wait outside for my frames. I told her to grab my frames, that I wanted to get the lens fixed somewhere else. She grabbed the frames and I left. This place just sucks, it's like being in Russia. read more

I went to see Dr. Chou for my keratology (gas permeable lenses) prescription. The exam with the lenses was a little expensive, over $600. However, Dr. Chou is very knowledgeable for he attended UC Berkeley optometry school and is very passionate about his job. I wish that Dr. Chou gave me more time to ask questions. My family has been visiting RB Eyes since the days of Gary Saks OD who is now retired. Since taking over this practice over ~3 years ago, both Drs. Kelvin Nguyen and his wife Jacquelin Le, have transformed this practice into a family-friendly location. My kids love the doctors and the staff - the attention they get and the smile on their face is the proof that RB Eyes is indeed among the best. The doctors here never rush, give a complete and thorough eyes-check-up (like 60K service on your car) and, best of all, take time to explain all the possible life-changes that will help someone keep eyes running healthy past you are 100 one day. . . . . . The apparent downside (for some) is that if you check-in early, you will (most likely) have to wait till your promised time comes up because the doctor is still giving all the time to the previous patient. This happened to me one day - well, I just had to go for a walk into the plaza for 20 min, grab cupcakes and then come back. So check in just 5-10 min early and no more! I generally see Dr. Nguyen, the serious and soft-spoken guy. And my kids go to Dr. Le. She is real funny - my kids love her (she knows how to make kids smile, she got kindergartners at her home!) And, she got a supply of dinosaur toys - the prize that all kids eventually bring home. And of course, she did discuss everything about their eyes health with me. Adrienne and Monica Kelly, both ABOC opticians in the glasses shop have always given us full attention and never tried to "sell" - they leave it to us (we got to be satisfied with our frames.) The kids frame selection was weak, just one wall (the size of half a door) - but Adrienne went online, went through the catalogs of her suppliers, ordered some samples we thought we may like, then we made few additional trips (kids just love to meet them) and finally got the "cool" frames that my kids are now proudly displaying to their friends in school. Appears to be under new ownership or new management since a few years ago... am thrilled with both Eric at the front desk (professional, accommodating, pleasant to work with), and Dr. Michael Cooper, with his vast experience and interest in managing Keratoconus. In-house medical assistants/Exam technicians are knowlegable and pleasant to work with. This is an awful eye disease to have; it requires skill and patience of the practitioner in managing. Dr. Cooper was not only able to address my concerns, but is trying out a new-to-me contact lens protocol and clearly explains why this is best for the health of my eyes. His pleasant and upbeat chairside manner actually brought a smile to my face during what are normally tedious and frustrating visits to the optometrist for management of this condition. As of right now.... they get one star. I was super super pleased when I ordered my daughters glasses the first time around. Great service and so on. I love how clean it is. Fast forward to a MONTH ago. My daughters glasses break, they are still under warranty. I go and order the same pair. I was told they'd be in, in one week. I called exactly a week later. They aren't in. I call back exactly a week after that- apparently they were back ordered and they should of been in the week of Christmas I called back the week after that (on the week three now) still aren't in and the lady I spoke with said she would track them down and call me. I haven't heard from her since then... and this week will be week 4!! I am not happy. I wasn't called at all during the 4 weeks. I was the one that has had to constantly call. read more
