The doctors are nice enough, but they can't get my prescription right. And the office staff are not helpful when something has gone wrong that needs to be fixed. I have tried twice to get the right contact lens prescription, and I won't try again. The wrong ones have been ordered, the doctor was defensive rather than trying to get it corrected, and trials have been either not ordered until I called weeks later or been completely wrong. Glasses are quite expensive. I'd recommend trying another place before going here. read more

I used to come here when I was younger, returned for the first time this week. I had an appointment with Dr. Staples (my first time seeing her) -- she was very professional, considerate, efficient, and friendly. Marci assisted me with some of the eye tests and then choosing frames for glasses. She was very helpful, gave me advice, and made me laugh a few times. Lastly, I was a little confused about how my insurance worked -- Shelly, their office manager, was very patient in explaining it to me and helping me figure out what it covered. I recommend them, they have great staff. read more

First time for a vision exam and I was pleased with the thoroughness of the exam, the friendliness of the doc, and how well everything went. Prices are definitely on the high side, but so far I think the value received for the price paid was good. Suji, who helped me select frames and decide which frames would go with which lenses, was likewise delightful. read more

Every staff I interacted with at Foothill Optometric Group was a friendly, professional and efficient! This was my first eye exam in a very long time and Dr. Amy Liu Longacre made sure I felt comfortable and was very informative, engaging and thorough in explaining my eye health throughout the whole exam. The frame techs also made picking out my first pair of glasses a fun and painless experience! Thanks! read more

Great professional doctors provide thorough eye exams, they take their time with their patients. state-of-the-art equipments, the doctors are always so pleasant, knowledgeable, and kind. I am very thrilled with the service that I received at Foothill Optometry. After my first visit last year with Dr. Yang, I understand why they have such high reviews. Getting my eyes checked was more than just the typical eye exam. Although, I didn't see Dr. Yang this year because he was booked, Dr. Chen didn't leave me disappointed. She was very personable and made me feel real comfortable in the wake of getting my exam completed during Covid. Her ability to explain my results, make recommendations and provide care was explicable. The level of attentiveness was more thorough than any care that I have ever received from my primary care physician. Also, I really appreciate the attentiveness of Suji in making sure that I selected the correct glasses. Overall, I must say that Foothill Optometry Group did a wonderful job by providing outstanding customer service. Keep up the good work! read more

One star is generous. My husband ordered glasses on 9/24; we were told it would take two weeks to get them back from the lab. After three weeks and at least 10 voicemails to the office they told us they were ready but when we went to pick them up they hadn't ordered the necessary prisms. He was seeing double. At first the tech said "you will get used to it" until I pushed and we were brought back to see the doctor again to get the prism prescription ordered. They were going to expedite this process. It is now two months since his first appt. I have left AT LEAST a dozen unreturned voice messages (even one to their dedicated physician line) but still have not heard back. The other two glasses he ordered aren't even close to the correct prescription. For two months my husband has been walking around with an older set of prescription sunglasses. We will NEVER go back and caution others to get ready for a ride. They must be paying people for the other postive reviews. This is Nancy Jobe-- you have my number if THIS inspires you to call me with an update. read more

Foothill ALWAYS goes above and beyond, but I finally decided to write this review after my experience from this weekend. I wish I could give them 10 stars, with 9.5 for Leslie!! Here's the story (worth a read): I totally dropped the ball and didn't have a single spare contact, but why is this important? Well, it's SUPER important because I can't just visit a regular optometric place and get replacements as I have an eye condition called keratoconus (I see you now: "highlight text, right click, Search Google for..."), but anyway, this problem requires me to wear special-made gas permeable contact lenses that cost ~$200 each. The main problem with this condition is that I'm literally BLIND without the special lenses, so even before greeting my kiddos in the morning, I have to pop them in to avoid walking into a door, etc (no exaggeration). Anyway, this Saturday, I casually rubbed my eye and to my horror, I couldn't see anything but a massive blur from my left eye when I moved my hand down. I searched frantically for an hour (with my wife and mum helping), but the lens was nowhere to be found. Next, I checked every 'backup' contact case in the house, my gym bag and travel suitcases, etc; but there was NO back up, so I faced the prospect of walking around half-blind until I got a replacement. So, after reality set in and I finally stopped checking my -now bloodshot- eye thinking it might have just rolled in the back, I made the frantic call to Foothill to explain the situation. Although the staff were understanding and professional, they explained that the fastest they could get replacement lenses ordered, made and delivered would be THREE days (as again, they're made to order due to the uniqueness of each one, I know this workflow, but was hoping it changed by some miracle.) From here, we (well, my wife mainly, as remember, I'm blind at this point) started Googling other clinics to see if they could help. First place: no, no, no can do; second place: impossible, my friend, come back on Monday, etc. Anyway, as we were about to call the third place, Leslie (from Foothill) called me back and her first words were "how soon can you get here?" -- I was like, "umm, what do you mean, I'm 30 minutes away..." to which she replied... "I just went through all of our special contacts, and I found a set that get pretty close to your prescription and sizing... get here soon as we close in 15 minutes." Finally (yes, finally as my wife was driving), we reached Foothill Optometric Group in Pleasanton almost 45 minutes AFTER they closed (they shut their doors at 3:30pm and we pulled in at 4:15pm); Leslie (and team) were waiting with EVERYTHING ready to go. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes. No charge, no 'we had to stay late', just completely genuine care and compassion that ONLY comes from LOVING your profession and helping others. Bottomline: I have two kids (aged 3 and 1), and had Ringling Brothers tickets for the weekend; needless to say, the show would have been ruined and more importantly, I would have missed a weekend playing with my kiddos, I would have fallen behind at work, had to BART to work (after taking a bus to the station), etc. All of these crazy inconveniences would have happened if Leslie didn't take the time to go ABOVE and BEYOND to check and help out someone she hardly knows. I owe her, and Foothill Optometric Group for that. PS: The craziest part of this whole event, as my wife was walking out, she casually asked Leslie a question about a problem with her glasses. Leslie stopped what she was doing, took a look and resized the frames, fixing the alignment without a second thought. A totally top-notch experience, and this incident exemplified WAY more than customer service, and/or simply earning a paycheck; it showed the importance of being a good person and helping someone out when you're in a position to. Foothill exemplifies these traits to a tee and my friends, co-workers and family have all been told about this story and my three-year-old (and her Daniel Tiger watching eyes) will be visiting you guys soon. Thanks a lot, and excuse the long lecture/essay/venting-session. :) read more

i will never again make any request and future appt with this place. i called few days ago requesting for documents for information that i needed for dmv relating my condition as valid documents. i spoke to someone and didn't get a name from that person which was a huge mistake. took down my information , provided them a fax number so that because its a sensitive material for identity information due to HIPPA was to send me a consent allowing them to release the form. called them back because i didn't provide the correct fax number and spoke to someone stating that they do not know anyone who spoke to me nor anyone have a clue what i was talking about. i was so upset i wanted to speak to a manager placed on hold and ignored with the escalated issue. i never felt so small and felt that no one in the office cared enough to give me the information i needed. the manager was condescending and being fake on the apology and did not excecute doing her job as the person in charge. i am in health care too team. i feel bad for the patients that come walking through that door because from the way it look, its all about making that money right. shame on your office for treating me who knows enough about the system to brush me off like im no one important to deal with with this small issue. so thank you .. what a rude awakening how jaded this world is. read more

I was very pleased with my experience at Foothill Optometric Group. I visited Dr Yang, who was very kind and personable. He took the time to thoroughly explain everything he found during the exam. The staff at Foothill Optometric Group are the best that there are. My family and I have been going to Foothill Optometric Group (FOG) for over 20 years! They are always professional - I always get in on time. The office is always clean. I was wisely advised to wait, wait, wait on having Lasik eye surgery (monovision) years ago when the technique was not perfected for astigmatism ... and then advised when to go ... and the procedure was very successful. I was recently diagnosed at FOG with age-related Macular Degeneration - vitamins and lots of kale were recommended ... and 6 months later - my scores have improved! I really appreciate getting ahead of this!! Dr. Lui and Dr. Longacre are fantastic and care about the WHOLE person! Upon my last visit, my insurance coverage has changed and FOG looked into it for me and DeeDee (office personnel) was very kind, discreet and helpful. read more

I was scheduled for an appointment at 3:45pm, someone called me at 3:29pm as I was pulling into the parking lot which surprised me. Upon check in, I was told they expect me to arrive at 3:00pm for a 3:45pm appointment since they have to run some tests before the doctor can see me. When I inquired why I was not told to arrive 45 minutes early, the person who checked me said I was verbally informed this policy when they made the appointment two months earlier. At this time, I was very upset and asked why they didn't simply schedule me at 3pm instead, I received no answer other than they are following a new system. Needless to say, I was asked to reschedule since I was "late". I won't be be going back to this place again after being a loyal customer for years, they just lost me and my entire family. I felt bad for being upset at the woman who checked me in, but this business is slowly going down hill as they seem to have a brand new front desk staff every year (granted we only go in once a year). I checked my phone and saw two texts asking to confirm my 3:45pm appointment along with an email reminder, it would have been helpful to add a comment if you need a customer to arrive 45 minutes early. I think the doctors are excellent, but the office manager and office staff are operating on a different spectrum. read more

This is a really bad optometrist office. The doctors are ok, and the staff is mostly terrible. I have had to go back four times to get my prescription for contacts and glasses corrected because Dr. Longacre cannot simply get it right. I ordered a pair of glasses adn they took a month to come in because of bad weather where it was shipped from (not FOG's fault), but I was told I would be called when the glasses came in. I never was called. So I called them. NO ONE even had a clue that my glasses weren't there and had been delayed, until I reminded them I didn't have my glasses yet. Again the glasses were delayed, again I was told someone would call...no one did. I called again, no one was keeping track of them AGAIN. Again I was told I would be called, AGAIN I wasn't. On top of that, after they finally came in, my prescription for these glasses was wrong, and instead of rechecking the prescription right away, they want me to wait til next month so they can bill the eye checkup to my insurance, which I already DID in the first place and would have had my glasses a long time ago if they didn't keep screwing up. It's a joke how they run this place. Foothill Optometric has gotten my prescription wrong over and over again, the staff, other than Rhonda helping me find a frame, has been completely disorganized, unhelpful, and not done a single thing they said they would, and after screwing up from beginning to end and dragging the process out for months they tell me to wait even longer just so they can make some more money, when they should do their jobs right in the first place and fix the mistakes they have made without me wasting my insurance with them, AGAIN. Once I have gotten the right lenses made for my glasses I certainly am never coming back here again, and I'd recommend you don't either. The office is nice, there is a lot of flash and the people are all young and good looking, but there is no substance. They just don't know how to do their jobs. read more

I went to FOG for the first time, and I was seen by Dr. Yang. The entire experience from start to finish was wonderful. Awesome staff, and the equipment is so high tech compared to my old optometrist's office. I told Dr. Yang my concerns with my vision and recurring headaches from straining while working. I also spoke to Dr. Yang about my chronic dry and irritated eyes. He explained several treatment options to me, and gave me a few eye drop samples to try out. On his recommendation, I ended up getting a pair of computer glasses to wear as needed to help with the eye straining. Before I even picked out a pair of glasses, the tech assisting me explained my insurance benefits and costs of upgrades so that I wouldn't be caught off guard. I really appreciate how helpful, thorough, and friendly the staff at FOG are. I will definitely be going back for my annual vision exams. read more

This optometry is not honest. First, they ask my senior mother-in-law to sign a form before the exam but not telling her the price. Then surprise her on what the cost $$$ is. This is a misleading practice, do not go there. read more

I use to send my whole family there. I found every appointment to be drawn out. Usually two hours long. When I have made the appointments and requested an estimate on timing, the reply is often no more than 60 minutes. Too many employees not knowing what the other employee is doing. They are quick to charge you for any little thing while hanging on to your prescription as ransom which frankly, find both insulting and annoying. I am so done with this group. The clincher was a couple of years ago when I made a frantic visit to a well respected pediatric ophthalmologist after a diagnosis made for my very young son by one of Foothill's ODs. We were told that our son had tunnel vision due to stress. We were perplexed and very concerned about this new medical condition. Foothill told us that our son needed to be seen over a series of visits with a specialist to help him "exercise" his eye muscles. I repeated the story to the pediatric ophthalmologist who shook his head in utter disbelief and disdain over any so called "professional" making such a claim on a young child. He quickly refuted this diagnosis and demonstrated how preposterous this idea was as he examined my son. read more

The one star is only for the Optometrists. Unfortunately, the office staff at this clinic is absolutely incompetent. When ordering prescriptions frames and lenses, I had to make several visits for adjusting them. The second time, the Office Manager removed the branded nose pieces to replace them with inferior silicone nose pads, not caring if I wanted to compromise quality for comfort! When I asked her to put the original nose pieces back on, she scratched them, so I had to order new frames all over again! The last straw for me was taking in the prescription for contact lenses to another store. It was discovered that they did not update the expiration date, so I experienced yet another delay with my contact lenses. In calling the office, no one apologized. As much as I liked the Optometrists, I prefer an office of competent professionals. read more

I had a eye emergency. I lost a lens and I was out of replacements and I also needed an exam. My regular doctor at Visual Eyes Optometry was out of the office until Monday. So, I was happy when I called FOG that I was able to come in within a hour. First, I thought it was odd that I was asked to sign a piece of laminated paper with a dry erase marker about a contact evaluation. Little did I know I was signing something that said I am going to pay over $100 for that and my insurance, VSP, would not cover. I did not find out until after my appoinment. I was not informed on the cost but just to sign. During my eye exam Dr. Amy talked so fast I could not get a question or word in edgewise. This was also upsetting. At the end of the appointment I was sent to the front desk for the receptionist to charge me for the visit. My co pay is $10 and they wanted that plus paying for a contact evaulation fee. I have never ever had to pay for an evaulation before. And they looked at me like I was crazy when I wanted an explianation and she asked the office manager to speak with me - the whole situation made me uncomfortable. Like I was some broke person and I cannot afford $100 fee. This is not the case at all. I asked for them to bill me and she didn't want to do that, she wanted half of the payment. I said no. Then she asked if I was coming back at all. Like she would never get paid. The fact is that they are already getting paid by VSP this extra fee is just to over employ their front desk. I am so upset and unhappy over their service and hidden fees! I refuse to go back and I will be sure to tell all my co workers and friends in Pleasanton to NEVER go to FOOTHILL OPTOMETRIC! read more

Awesome Team. Great Staff. Definitely Check Them Out : )

I've been coming to Foothill Optometric for 9 years now and love the doctors there, and I am usually satisfied with the service. However, recently I had a very unpleasant experience with a technician there, Irene, who was very rude and disinterested while processing my glasses order. She was reluctant to answer my questions, and disregarded me when I wanted a break down of the costs. She turned her attention elsewhere constantly throughout the process, and when I voiced my concerns to a receptionist named Debra, she dismissed and ignored my concerns and pressured me to make a payment and quickly depart. I have met several good technicians there in the past, and was genuinely shocked that a patient could be treated in this matter and shooed away. I was extremely disappointed in the front desk staff, and will not visit again in the future. -- read more

I went to see the eye doctor and this day happened to be very busy (Saturday I get it) the eye dr herself was ok - she said she couldn't write anything down until later and she would mail me the items that I would need (I have tear duct issues) this was in December. We are now in the middle of February I have not received anything from them. She showed me computer glasses and said I would benefit and I agreed. The appointment is over time to look at glasses and the technician said "oh you are getting a pair of computer glasses along with your normal everyday wear. I said yes. I ordered my normal and my "computer" glasses paid the deposit and left. I paid 224.00 for my "computer" glasses mind you they kept telling me that they were computer glasses and I asked many times. I get to work and low and behold I can't see a thing on the computer. I call them and say I think there has been a mistake and she said "well you ordered readers" and I calmly said "no I did not" I would not pay 200.00 for readers I don't even need them. This review is for Ed and Amy. My name is Kay Thorson and I am Julie Farias' kid sister. We all attended the same church, Valley Community, Leron Heath, Pastor, at one time. I was blessed to receive a certificate for a 'refraction test and glasses' from the Lions Center and your office was recommended. I made my initial appointment and met with Dr Chen. Upon the initial exam, Dr Chen advised that I had cataracts in both eyes and she suggested I see a opthomic surgeon. I saw Dr Auker, in Pleasanton and he performed cataract surgery in both eyes. He then sent me back to Foothill to followup with refraction test and glasses. Dr Chen did conduct the test and then sent me out to pick out glasses. As I was sitting down around the glasses, Mandeep proceeded to tell me that my Lions Certificate had expired and that "today, you owe $65 for the visit!" I asked why wasn't I told the certificate had expired when I made the "post~surgical" appointment?? I told Mandeep I had NO money!!! And she told me, the Office Manager would be calling me!! And, I responded, "Good! Please have her call. And, to date, I have NOT received a call. Shirley, from the 'Lions Center' called your office to discuss the situation. The outcome, unfortunately, didn't change my situation. Shirley was told that your office would accept a "NEW" certificate, but I was still liable for the $65 charge. Ed and Amy, I don't have $65, hence the need for "financial assistance"!! I have Diabetes Type II, and I haven't had a eye exam for 9 years. Since then, I'd lost my job and insurance!! And, I am "totally and completely disabled" and receive "SSDI" in the amount of $1284. Dr Chen deserves "10 Stars", Mandeep, "1.1 Stars"!! Anyway ... I came here on a very busy Saturday afternoon close to closing time, but the eye exam was very thorough and the Dr. took the time to answer my questions and concerns. One of the specialists was very helpful and took her time with me while I shopped for sunglasses and eyeglasses. I have insurance, but it did not cover much. They seem to be much more advanced in eye technology and equipment than any other place I've ever been to. They also have a great variety of different brands and styles. I had to wait two weeks to get my order, but I wasn't in a rush. A little pricey, and spent more than I expected to, but satisfied with my selections and service. read more
