I don't usually write a lot of reviews but I've had such consistently great experiences with Dr. Kim that I felt like I had to share. When I first came into the office, I was honestly a mess dealing with double vision, blurry vision and just not being able to see properly at all. I had already seen other doctors who never really got to the bottom of it which was frustrating and a little discouraging. But Dr. Kim was completely different. She really takes her time. I never once felt rushed during any of my visits. She listened carefully to everything I said, asked thoughtful questions and ran multiple tests to really understand what was going on, not just patch things up. On top of that, she's just a genuinely kind and personable doctor which makes the whole experience so much easier and more comfortable. After multiple visits now, I can honestly say she's one of my favorite doctors I've ever had. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone especially if you're struggling with getting the right prescription for contacts or glasses or if you're dealing with vision issues that aren't straightforward and need someone who will really dig in and figure it out. This is long overdue, but wanted to provide an update. I have continued to go to Dr. Kim every year; I have literally recommended everyone in my family go see her. She is warm and welcoming, but also the technology and tests she maintains is top tier. I've been doing retinal scans and a number of tests to make sure my eyesight is healthy and working properly! The appointments are on-time and not long, all while not feeling rushed. It is a difficult balance to strike, but they've figured it out! I will continue to go here and recommend everyone to come here! Finally, they keep a good rotating selection of frame styles. Our daughter went to VisualEyes for vision therapy and the team, led by Dr. Kim, did a wonderful job working with her. While they were warm, engaging, and effective, we were pleasantly surprised to learn she was also having fun. Dr. Kim was warm, informative, supportive, and accessible in making sure we, as parents, understood what was going on and the progress our daughter was making, backed up by good diagnostic tools and info. Oh what a bad experience with dr.susan today, can't express it here. I was waiting there for 15 min, she didn't say any sorry etc. Then I started explaining her what happened with my last prescription and experience with Costco, she showed me very angry look, started asking irrelevant questions, based on that i could sense that she didn't even understand my point, and she seemed unhappy with i didn't buy specs from her. She didn't understand my point at all :(. Very bad experience, done with her today. Will never go there to waste my time any more. Not even 1 star, she deserves. read more

Honestly, I don't remember when I started to go to Visualeyes Optometry. I highly recommend anyone who needs an optometrist to come here. There are two optometrists at this office. They are a married - Dr. Kim and Dr. Laubach. I believe they have been practicing for over 20 years. Dr. Launach is very personable. He tries to get to know you to serve you better. His examinations are very thorough. He takes his time and answers every questions. During this pandemic period, the office has implementing the safest covid practices. Temperature is checked upon entry. Plexiglass separates customers from office personnel. Curbside pickup is offered for no contact pickup. Thank you for implementing these practices. read more

I can not even express how disappointed I am with this office. Our eye doctor recommended vision therapy for my daughter, as she gets headaches and struggles to read. I had a lot of hope when I learned about Visualeyes, and was excited to get started. It's not covered by insurance so it took me a while to gather the funds to move forward but I finally did so I scheduled the evaluation. Shortly after I scheduled, we had a very unfortunate situation arise and we were not going to be able to move forward as planned. Our hope was to wait a few months until things settled down then get started again. I let the office know of our circumstance and they flat out refused to give us our deposit back. I explained that we did intend to use their services but at this time it would be great customer service to refund us, and again they flat out refused. It was so cold and uncaring and ruined my day when we are already going through so much. I even said that I found their responses to be unfortunate and that it was causing me to rethink my plans of using them in the future - they did not care. They said they "respect my decision". So they have no issues giving up helping a struggling 15 year old girl, and losing a customer, over $160. Such bad business practices. I am thankful I had this interaction before I signed on to their program because I believe they showed their true colors. I'm sure they will respond and say that I was told the deposit is non refundable, because that's what they kept telling me. If they want to pride themselves on sticking to policy, not making exceptions, over providing good and compassionate customer service then it's not a place I will be spending my very hard earned money. ** edited after response - you proved my point so thank you. When our school OT suggested that my son have his vision tracking testing I had my doubts that this would help him. Jake put his all into participation of the vision therapy program. It really worked! Several weeks in we started noticing he was less frustrated with school and homework. Teachers mentioned he seemed calmer and more confident. He had been a good student, however it took him so long to do homework that he had little time for anything else. Now he socializes more with friends and has been doing more outside - just enjoying life more! That was an unexpected bonus. It makes a huge difference to him. He is so much happier! And so are we! Our whole family goes to Dr. Laubach and Dr. kim because they are the best 1-2 team in the business. If one is not available the other is there and they are both excellent with our kids, knowledgeable, and extremely patient. What I like best is that they give us numerous options, and makes sure we have the best possible care. My son's overnight contacts (Ortho-keratology) took several fittings and visits to get what Dr. Laubauch described as "Just right" and not only was it quick and easy, but also at no charge for the office visits. A friend's daughter was very uncomfortable putting contacts or anything else in her eyes and had gone to three different eye doctors but none could teach her to put the contacts in. I recommended VisualEyes and doctor Kim's patient and reassuring manner was the key to the daughter gaining confidence and comfort with her new contact lenses. We highly recommend Dr. Kim and her entire staff! Six months ago Dr. Kim evaluated and diagnosed my son with a vision function disorder called Convergence Insufficiency. To put it simply, Convergence Insufficiency means that his eyes never met in the middle causing double vision. My son began an intensive 6 month program with Dr. Kim and her team to help him recover. With lots of guidance, hard work and determination my son was able to "graduate" from the therapy program recently. It has been life changing! The impact this will have on my son's life is immeasurable and we are filled with gratitude to Dr. Kim and her staff. My son has already seen tremendous improvements in school. He's gone from working extremely hard to earn Cs on his report card to As. He now enjoys activities like riding his bike even asked to start playing sports which his vision interfered with previously. Most importantly is seeing his confidence grow throughout this whole experience. We know there is still work is not done so that he can improve skills like writing and reading, but can't wait to see where he soars to next! Worst customer service ever. So my elderly mother decided that I needed a new pair of sunglasses, No I didnt I have several pairs of Maui Jims and SPY that I love. They told her I could return if I didnt like them. Anyway the real story is that I could exchange them for another pair of equal value or pay the difference on a more expensive pair. I dont live near Pleasanton so to come out this way to exchange pair of glasses I didnt want or need is not worth the inconvenience. So I get to the store the lady tells me that I should come back some other time because she is training. I explain I am not from the area and I just want to look for a pair to exchange. The moment I say exchange she is not having any of that wont allow me into the store to even look. Tells me that I should come back some other time when shes not busy. Dont worry lady I wont come back, you got the 200 bucks for the glasses no one wants and because of the hassle you created friction between my Mother and I. I will never return to your store and will tell everyone I can not to give you their business. Fellow Yelpers avoid this place at any cost. There are far better places to spend your money. Even a Shopping mall retailer would be better than this place. Maybe they can train the lady on customer service. read more

Want you to make appointments through their online scheduler but lacks the ability to ensure you get an appointment. Made an appointment online over 30 days, selected the dates and requested. Received an email for the appointment so I thought I was good. Nope on the day of the appointment i found out I did not have an appointment. We were told by the staff that in order to make full use of our VSP benefits, we were required to buy contact lenses from them at the same time as the exam. They claimed our VSP dollars would be forfeit otherwise. The VSP representative that I contacted chuckled over this and gave them a call to "clarify". We were told this by more than one staff member, which led me to believe it was deliberate misinformation. read more

Bottom-line: Awesome doctors, pleasant environment! I have finicky eyes & my wife has medical challenges impacting her eyes, making us very picky with eye specialists. After 4 consecutive changes, we had found an awesome doctor in South Bay that we went to for 6 years. After moving to East Bay, were looking for an equally good replacement so I picked this place based on two recommendations from our community. I must say, I was really impressed with Dr. Kim, finding her to be very pleasant (even fun), efficient & rather quick at understanding my eyes! As you can see above, I have experience!) Right there, I setup an appointment for my wife and teenage son & now, even they are fans of this doctor. We also had the luck of meeting Dr. Laubach. While there was no medical interaction, we found even him to be very sweet & an awesome conversationalist. He was able to strike up a fun discussion with my son about school & other stuff making him very relaxed. This is awesome because all 3 of us now feel comfortable with both the doctors. The office is well maintained, bright & very spacious. The staff was efficient. Overall, highly recommended by both genders & a teenage boy :) Need I say more? read more

This office uses the latest technology and state of the art equipment. Jake handled all my testing on the machines. He was personable and he took time to explain what each machine would accomplish. Dr Kim is a true professional- very knowledgable and you can tell she loves what she does. I spoke to the receptionist today and she was very rude and was not knowledgeable about prices of exams. She did know which exams were required and had to put me on hold several times. At one point, she though that she had been speaking to me but she had actually put me on hold instead.$165 for an eye exam which includes glasses prescription. $80-$215 for a contacts exam. read more

The doctors are ok but very disappointed with the staff. I had an appointment for myself a couple of months back. Didn't get a reminder, when I called to confirm the appointment they said oh yes we do have an appointment do come over They weren't sure why no reminders were sent. This was atleast ok as I remembered. Subsequently I made an appointment for my 4 year old on Black Friday. When asked if they were working that day, they said oh yes. Also on the Wednesday the confirmed the appointment on Friday. So at the time of my appointment I'm at their office, cutting my shopping short with my 4 year old, only to see a closed sign on the door. Very unprofessional. I had vision insurance and needed new glasses ASAP after breaking my old pair 3 days before going on vacation to NYC. I called a bunch of optometrist and all told me 5-7 business days for new glasses. Another told me 3 days, but the receptionist was awful, so on my 2nd to last option I called here and Sarah answered. She was really sweet, told me that she could put a rush on it and gave me a 50/50 that it would arrive in time. When I arrived she was prompt, professional, and very friendly. I'm going to write her boss to thank her for the excellent service as well. Two days later I got a call that the glasses arrived rushed at no extra charge. I was told by Janelle the lady that works in the front office that my toddler was eligible for a free examination. When we were done my baby needs eye glasses, as the lady put the paper in front of me shows $150 for the consultation plus lenses and frame total of $375 out pocket, I ask how are they charging me for consultation if she said was free to me on the phone. How mess up is that? Anyway I am so mad of the lack of ethics. I felt deceived by not being told once I got there. Never going back and by the I did not get glasses there I went to image optometry in Dublin, Ca where they did accept my insurance and I paid $20.00 out pocket from a complete pair of eyeglasses for my baby girl. read more

Needed to schedule an eye exam so I called around a few places and kept getting brief answers on prices and what that included. Until I called Visual Eyes. I spoke to Karen and right away she was very friendly and extremely helpful. So I decided there no need to call anywhere else. I came in a few days later and since I have anxiety I was a little nervous since I hadn't had an eye exam in over 10 years. But the staff here made me feel real comfortable. I had my exam with Dr. Kim and she went beyond being welcoming. Asking me and talking to me about everyday things. It really helped me relax. My exam was very thorough and she explained everything I needed to know. She even told me if I have any questions in the future even if i feel it's a dumb one don't hesitate to give her a call. I highly recommend this place if you want a very welcoming staff and caring doctors. read more

While the office is clean and neat, the doctor seems knowledgeable in what she is doing, there is something missing in customer services as well as not being patient enough to explain more. Doctor seems to rush patients off after examination by pressing a button calling front officers in without even telling patients. Shall I sit or walk off with front officer? Great care and attention taken in my exam by Dr Laubach. Very, very thorough. I have a history of 3 visits over the past three years and have had the same, consistent, quality care on each visit. I have purchased one set of prescription sunglasses and have had two pair of frames updated to my current prescription and have been very pleased with the results. This place is the BOMB. Okay, so first when you go in they have these really nice receptionists that greet you. Well, at least they greet my mom as I amble in behind her nervously. But there's NO reason to be nervous. Usually Dr. Laubach's assistant comes in maybe 3 minutes after you arrive, and guides you go to a visual test machine. I think "machine" is too scary of a word. It's kind of like a giant video game where you have to spot-the-blurs, and let me tell you- I think I press the button too often because I'm afraid I've missed a blurry spot. They never tell me how I've done, so I assume that's good news. Then you have to stare at this picture of a red barn and tell them when it gets blurry. If I had one complaint, it's that I think they need to switch it up a little- maybe they could make it a yellow barn? Just to keep things interesting. Anyways, then they show you a fully rendered picture of your eyeball. "See that? It's shmnahnma." "Uh, is that bad?" "No." Eventually they send you back to the front for a little. They have this room for "kids" which is filled with toys and books. It's a great place to stick someone annoying (ahem, brother) and not see them come back out for awhile. If they added an espresso maker, it'd be a kid AND adult room! So when Mr. L comes back you have to sit in another room and take the tests. You know the one where you're supposed to tell them the letters? "Just pick the line you can see clearly." Honestly, I can only see the second from the bottom, but I'm super-competitive so I always try the bottom one. Someday they'll find out and knock me down to 19/20 or something like that. Next you have that machine where they have all these different lenses popping out and you're thinking "wait, this isn't the dentist....?" but no, they don't strap you down and ask you to open wide while they shove in grape-flavored flouride- instead you just put your eyes to the machine and they ask "which one's better 1 or 2?" "3 or 4?". I think one time they asked "5 or 6" but they were going too fast so I accidentaly said "7". I feel really bad, because sometimes they look EXACTLY the same, and I'm like "can I see that again?" and then I just pick one. After about a two-minute lightning-round (how does he keep track? He's never written them down) he then proceeds to tell me "you're slightly farsighted" "do I need glasses?" "no" "*grateful sigh*". This is the procedure for the past probably three years of my life. I know my good luck will run out eventually, and I'll have to get glasses (both my parents have/had them). But when I do, I'll come here because they have a GREAT selection. Converse, Barbie, Designer Brands (e.g. Prada, Armani), Ray Bans (for all you hipsters). I personally like the Juicy Couture, but if you see me in real life I'll never admit to it... And then THE CONTACTS. Oh my god- for the past 2 years (ancient tradition, I know), I've been coming to Visualeyes for all my Halloween needs. Do I want creepy red ones to wear for vampires? They've got that. Do I want glow-in-the-dark, or green, or shark teeth? They have that too. They even taught me the first time how to put contacts in (or tried to, what really happened was that my eye bled fluids for a good thirty minutes while I tried to coax it in). Plus, because I'm an evil person and I think my parents pay too much for health insurance, I manage to get the eye insurance (does that exist?) to pay for the contacts. Fantastic! read more

I've been a client of the business for 2 years, and I love their attitude and service! The doctors are gracious even when I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I received three -- count 'em, 3 -- email reminders for my app't., each one closer to the day of the app't. There only two drawbacks to their practice. One is a lack of weekday evening hours and weekend hours by the doctors -- I work in SF, and I can't get to their place during their weekday business hours, and the doctors work only one weekend day/month (can't really blame them). Maybe the doctors could stagger their hours 1x/week, so that there's early evening coverage, although I'm sure they want their entire staff there to provide one-stop shopping. The other is the price of their frames and lenses. Like other small optometry businesses, they make their real money on selling glasses. They have a few low-cost frames, but I found them unappealing, compared to Costco's offering. The lenses have a lot of a la carte additions, e.g., anti-glare, anti-reflective coatings, compared to Costco's including these goodies in the base price of the glasses. I bought my computer lenses there, there because they offer a progressive lens. read more

Not sure who these other *raging* patients are going to but but Dr. Kim and Dr. Laubach are top notch. And I'm picky! I first found Dr. Laubach about 8~ years ago when I used to live in the South Bay. Moved to Pleasanton, happy to find him. Moved to Concord 3 years later, I still drive down to Pleasanton for my annual appts because he's great. When he's not in, I see Dr. Kim who has helped in emergency eye situations a couple of times, and she rocks too. Always, always professional, super nice and likeable! You gotta like your drs people or you're just wasting your time and money. The staff has always explained things in a clear and concise manner. My son has been going to vision therapy for 4 months with Dr. Kim and his reading has improved so significantly it was worth every dollar. He was seen by a specialist at another office to evaluate his reading issues and they could not even figure out what was going on.
