After 15 years with my previous eye doctor in San Francisco, I decided it was time to stop commuting so far and try an optometrist closer to home in Pleasanton. I wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I was able to get a same-day appointment (which made me wonder if that was a good or bad sign!), but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly and responsive -- I appreciated that they followed up with a text after my missed call to help me schedule the appointment. Dr. Miller was extremely thorough with my eye exam and had a great sense of humor, which made the visit comfortable and easy. The assistant was so sweet and took her time helping me choose a new pair of glasses, which I really appreciated. I stopped in to have a look at the glasses and decide if I wanted an appt there, the staff person smiled but said they would need an appt first before I could even look around at the glasses. She wasn't willing to let me look for 2-3 mins even though there were definitely other staff working in the lobby at the time, that just doesn't work for me. I went down the street to a much more accommodating place that I love and that let me look around, and that had a good selection of glasses, and I love my new eye Dr. and my new glasses. read more

Pushy rude doctor Celia, constantly trying to upsell on services we didn't even need. I understand the business has to turn a profit but when someone says no to an offering it means NO. She was talking down on me and my daughter the entire time and treating us like we were low class people. What especially was unacceptable was her playing favorites to her friend after we were waiting forever to see her. Seems like weird nepotism trumps appointments made weeks in advance. The doctor claims she cares and wants the best interests of the patient but she rushed all the services performed on my daughter and probably got the prescription wrong which we will have to now re verify and pay out of pocket to do so. The appointment far exceeded the going market rate for a standard eye exam too (almost $190!), not the kind of service you expect for that price. Wish I could give zero stars, no idea why this person is still in business when they are operating in a derogatory disrespectful manner. read more

On vacation last week, and driving through the East Bay from Napa, I realized I'd forgotten to pack spare contact lenses. I am pleased to report that their staff was cordial and helpful, and after checking with my optometrist they provided me with lenses I needed--at no cost! In a nutshell: Dr. Ziel has zeal, say 'aye' to Pleasanton Optometry! ----- Excuse the bad puns. But in all seriousness, one can't talk about Pleasanton Optometry without mentioning their amazing team, from Dr. Ziel herself to the different attendants at the desk. I remember once I had to take a litany of eye scans between several different machines, and I kept accidentally positioning my eye wrong, but the attendant with me stayed super cool, and guided my face super gently into the right scanning positions. When I chose to get night contacts after my eyesight started to deteriorate, Dr. Ziel and the other staff members fully supported me through the entire process, from the contact cleaning and care training they offered to the weekly and monthly check-ups afterwards. The sample solutions and eye drops provided will run out fast though, but most of them are easy to find in a local Walgreens or Safeway. Trying (and failing) to place the delicate hard lenses into my eyes was absolute torture at first, because my lashes would get in the way or my eyes would blink rapidly at close contact or they'd well up with tears. But, Brittany, one of the attendants, had the patience of a saint, and eventually helped me ease the contacts in. And after a week of learning and practicing, I had the whole contact procedure down pat. Another thing I really like about the office is how they send regular texts to your phone to remind you of an upcoming appointment; for patients like me who may be more scatterbrained or forgetful, these reminders serve as a great way to keep track of any scheduled check-ups you have. In short, Pleasanton Optometry shows they really care about their clients's health and providing a chill experience-even with masks on, you can feel their sincerity and enthusiasm. Easy to find Plenty of parking The office was nice and the AC was on full blast Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful Doctor Ziel was so patient with our little girl, very engaging even asked to see a photo of our dog. Britanny, Britney, I am unsure of the spelling of her name, but she was just wonderful while helping us from when we walked in, all the way to picking out frames for a destructive child - lol! I brought my 90 year old mom-in-law for an exam with Dr. Miller. She's had BBPV vertigo for the last 4 years and her current tri-focals made her dizziness worse. Dr. Miller took a lot of time with her, answering, explaining. Her current lenses were not powerful enough in one eye. He made no promises a new prescription would "fix" the dizziness, but a correct prescription would make an overall improvement. When she tried on the new glasses at Dr. Miller's office, initially she felt her vision was worse. The patient technician explained there's an adjustment period. She said return in a week if you can't adjust and you'll see Dr. Miller again. Later that same day she could see the improvement and by day 2 her dizziness was gone. This is the first time in years she can wear her glasses all day without having a dizzy spell. I'm so appreciative of Dr Miller & staff, their patience and persistence has made a difference. read more

The staff was very friendly in asking me to look for glasses while I wait for someone to help me. I particularly like the color photos of the back of my retina. Building up a photo gallery over the years allows her to see any significant changes as the years go by.
