I was a patient years ago and had to leave for logistic reasons. I could not wait to come back to this office. Most other offices heard you in like cattle and have a rush rush attitude regarding the exam. This office is not that way at all. They take the time to get it right and explain each step of the way. I've had one of the best eye doctors in business for the past 25 years. He retired. I knew my chances of finding *anyone* who might even come close were thin but I poked around and read reviews. I have to say that Dr. Miller stands in that same category. His prescription is right on the money and that is NO small task with my eyes. The clarity and focus in the new prescription is flawless and I am beyond ecstatic with the results. To ADD to that, his wife and their staff are BEYOND excellent. I moved to Pleasanton 4 months ago and needed to find a new optometrist office. I found Dr. Miller online through my health insurance and I couldn't be more happy. Pleasanton Optometry is the best private and family oriented office that I've been to. Their staff are all great and take time to do a thorough exam. I came in for my annual contact exam and Dr. Miller really went over my eye condition in detail. His assistants explained all the needed eye tests and they had a great selection of glasses to choose from. I loved the new eye scan test that has replaced getting my eyes dilated. It was so easy and after a few pictures, I was done. I love that it keeps a permanent record too for future comparisons. I ordered a new pair of glasses from the office and love them. I have needed to go back once for an adjustment and the technicians are always so helpful. I would recommend Dr. Miller and his team to any new patient and am very satisfied. I went to Dr. Celia Ziel about a month back to get my eyes checked. I had visited several doctors before who weren't able to solve my problem, but Dr. Ziel took a keen interest in learning and understanding my problem and patiently considering every possibility for the problem. She then recommended prism lenses and that has really really helped me. Not only is Dr. Ziel a great doctor, but she is also very caring and friendly, she showed a great personal interest in my case. This is my first experience with Pleasanton Optometry, I'm very satisfied with their overall services. To start, the front desk lady is very very nice and friendly. Dr. Miller seems to be very experienced and knowledgeable, and was very friendly. I came a second time when I picked up the glasses and also did a dilation of my pupils. Dr Ziel and her team have handled my eye care for over twenty years. She's excellent. At my wife's request I have tried two other eye doctors, and gone back to Dr Ziel because she does such good work. It's not just about lenses; you need someone who checks for glaucoma and other things that lead to blindness. Her office has the special tools and machines needed to test for these things - not every doctor does. Dr Ziel is more than happy to explain the results of all the tests, too, and she is very patient. These are your eyes, folks - don't mess around. I have no idea of there are less-expensive doctors - why cut corners on your vision? Seeing well is just too important to take any chances. Bad experience and I do not recommend this vision practice. I will try to be brief but I am so upset I want to rant on and on. Let me start by saying that when I initially picked up my finished glasses the one earpiece was loose and the woman who was helping me stated that sometimes they make them that way which I found to be super dismissive. Truth be told I have not really had too much of an issue with the ear piece and had the experience that I am about to explain not happened I would not have complained too much about it. Also to be complete with this review up until today my interaction with the staff had been pleasant. So now for the real complaint. There was a variance between the glasses I received and the prescription on record for those glasses. To be clear it was a small variance but it was enough of a difference that it was noticeable and made me dizzy when I had a new pair of glasses made at another place with the prescription Pleasanton Optometry gave me. The prescription was from the eye exam at Pleasanton Optometry and the original glasses were produced from their lab. When I called to have the prescription corrected to match the glasses that they produced and that I am currently wearing as my eyes had adjusted and were comfortable with -they refused. They stated that the variance was within acceptable limits and the prescription was too old even though it was their labs mistake and the prescription was not expired. This fix would have cost them nothing financially but will now cost me hundreds of dollars as I need to replace the new glasses I just paid for with the other vendor. I have worn glasses my whole life and know that I can be dizzy and uncomfortable for a week or so and adjust to the new glasses but that fact remains that I should not have to. With everything going on in the world these days I would suggest spending your money with businesses that have compassion and work with customers when mistakes occur, especially when it is the business that made the mistake. Pleasanton Optometry apparently possesses neither compassion nor accountability. read more

I've used Pleasanton Optometry for several years now. I've found the staff (both the office staff and Doctor Ziel herself) to be very professional and courteous. I have definitely incurred expenses beyond what my insurance covers, but they've been very upfront about what is covered and what is not. (In fact, the reason I first came to Pleasanton Optometry is that my old optometrist was so bad at that very thing). Doctor Ziel also found a brand of contact lens that suited me better than any I had ever tried (and I've been wearing contacts for 27 years!). (i would give it a million stars if i could) I work with a lot of rude people on the daily basis and going someplace where they treat you with such care is just amazing! i was even running a bit late for my appointment and they still took care of me. I did not care too much for the guy.he claimed I need a progressive according to the exam. When I tried it on. It was way off. He did not even admit he was wrong. The staff are great. But the optometrist pushes on you the progressive lens so he can make extra buck. Beware of all extra they claim you need. They need to listen to what the patient is saying. read more

Went there to get a new eye lenses prescription. Over the phone they tell you that it is going to be a $25 co-pay and then after your exam is done they hit you with a $200 bill. Why not you itemize what and how much you're going to charge me BEFORE you shoot away with your procedures? $150 for a basic eye exam? Give me a break! Stay away for these leeches. read more

What can I say? The people in this office ROCK! We have being seeing Dr. Ziel, or her husband, Peter Miller (they share an office) for the past 6 years. We have mostly seen Dr. Ziel, though. She is SO incredibly nice and helpful, as are all the women in the office. Charlotte is so patient with my son, trying to help him pick out glasses. They just have a homey feeling in the office, and they don't have a lot of turnover in staff, either, which is nice. We have gotten to know the people here. Highly recommend them!!! The only drawback is they have those stinky plants in front of their office, the ones that smell like cat pee, so hold your breath going to the door. :) read more

Great experience as a first time exam patient. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They were even able to fit me in for a same day appointment! Everyone made me feel comfortable and they did a thorough exam. I have great vision and I didn't feel like they were trying to push any products on me. Dr Miller was awesome and easy to talk to. He explained everything and didn't make me feel rushed. He had a good system of rotating patients to keep the process moving during times like waiting for eyes to dilate after drops were put in. He also has an option for a little extra $$ to take a picture instead of dilation so you don't have to be bothered with blurry vision for a few hours. My kids will be coming tomorrow for their appointment with Dr. Miller's wife Dr. Ziel....I expect the same great service! I had the best optometry experience here! I was wanting to try out daily contacts for the first time and I called them to see if they had any appointments--they got me in the very next day! Not only did they examine, fit and get me some trial contact lenses to go home with that same day, but the Doctor answered a long-time question that I've seen other doctors about but had no resolution. He took the time to check out my dry eyes and got me set up with a mask to help. I love my new daily contacts and it's safe to say I've found my new optometry "home"! Dr. Ziel has been my optometrist for over 10 years now. I highly recommend Pleasanton Optometry, not only for your eye exam and eye care, but also for frames and contact lenses. They have a really nice selection of frames, and the gals who work there (especially Charlotte!) will take the time necessary to make sure you are happy with your selection and that you get a proper fit. They do not make your glasses "in about an hour" like some other places, because they send the frames out to a lab that does very high quality work. I have very picky eyes, and my Rx has to be just right, but I know that these folks will work to get it right for me. Also, they just moved into a brand new office which is really nice. read more
