Dr. Helen Cheng and Dr. Lee were very knowledgeable and good at what they do, as were their staff! Dr. Cheng thoroughly explained things - like the exam, how our eyes focus etc. I also have dry eyes, and in the past, other people had suggested eye drops, ointment. However, Dr. Cheng explained the causes of dry eyes, and gave me an eye mask to help alleviate the condition at the root cause. My eyes are sensitive but Dr. Cheng and Dr. Lee went to great lengths to test different prescriptions. Their staff were friendly and helpful. read more

First let me share that previously have been to the same eye care specialist for over 8 years and while that may not sound like a long time, it is long enough to not want to switch. Well, after driving back to San Francisco and trying to find parking in Chinatown for every eye exam and to pick up new glasses, it was time. But who do your trust? I frequent the 99 Ranch Market where Dr. Cheng's practice is located and passed it almost 3-4 times a week. Since my insurance covers new lens and exams and I saw that her business accepts VSP insurance, I figured why not? My initial experience was typical, set an appointment, show up and fill out paperwork. OK, that's normal. While waiting for my turn to see Dr. Cheng, I looked around at the selection of frames and they offer a good selection of name brand and wide choice of children and off brand frames that will fit all budgets and styles. Well, to my surprise Dr. Cheng was very pleasant, knowledgeable and offer sound advice. Even some that my previous optometrist did not, such as extended screening for retina health. Important things to consider when one reaches my age. I did not feel rushed during the exam, if anything, I was taking alot of Dr. Cheng's time with questions and getting to know her as a professional and person. (I just feel more comfortable knowing who I am dealing with on a personal level) I left with a new prescription and glasses on order and when they arrived, the correction was spot on and I look forward to continuing to visit Global Eyecare Optometry into the foreSEEable future. The last time I visited this place was four years go, so needless to say it had been a while since my last eye exam. This place is located inside of a Ranch 99 and the people here speak Mandarin as well as English. I made an appointment and was seen immediately by Katherine Lee. She talked me through everything that she was doing and stopped to answer any questions I had. She was very detailed in what she was doing and noted what problems I had and what I could do to help/fix them. I needed to change out my 4 year old prescription, so I picked out lenses in the store to save on time. The frame selection here is not extraordinary and the prices are quite high. Additionally, on my first pair of glasses from here, the frames I received were flawed - the screws on the hinges kept coming loose no matter how tight I rescrewed them. The case they gave me for the glasses also barely fit the glasses. Even though they kept insisting it was the correct case, it was clear that the case was too small. For frames, I'd definitely seek out other stores or online if you aren't in a rush. I think the optometrists here are great and it's great place to see for all your eyecare needs if you're in the area. read more

She did not tell me needs to pay $97 after insurance. After eye exam, request go back again for free trial or no given prescription. I always got my prescription immediately after check. When you have never really stuck a finger in your eye and you want to get contact lenses, Helen and her team are the people to go to. I'd been wanting to switch to contact lenses for the longest period. But I just couldn't get around the idea of sticking my finger in my eyes. Plus, it isn't particularly cheap. After having gone through the VSP list and comparing optometrists and reviews on Yelp, I settled for Dr. Cheng and I am happy with my decision. She checked my old prescription for my spectacles and prescribed contact lenses for me. After a few trials and fittings, she finally found me a pair that suited my eyes. She helped me put them off and take them off. And all through the process, she was patient and kind. She and her team kept following up with me (and even reminded me a couple of times about my appointment) to make sure that I was comfortable. They even helped me get a good deal on my lenses ( I compared with 1-800-CONTACTS and she is definitely cheaper to order from!) I am, indeed, a happy customer! The clinic is easy to find. It's conveniently located INSIDE Ranch 99 on Rosewood Drive. You are always greeted with a smile and she's easy to make an appointment with. She's open rather late too! Her clinic carries a range of spectacles from cheap ones for those without insurance and the high-end designer ones for those of us who can afford them. YEAY! I definitely recommend her. I've never had to seek out an optometrist until more recently when I discovered I had a slight stigmatism and sought out Dr. Cheng. Much of my family is as blind as a bat, so I'm glad I have Dr. Cheng now as my go-to optometrist! For my first visit, Dr. Cheng took the time to give me the full details on my stigmatism and I appreciated that she had me walk around to test my prescribed lenses to ensure I felt comfortable w/ the right prescription she doled out. This was definitely key to me as I know I can be sensitive when walking around with glasses (I can get a bit nauseous!). Dr. Cheng's assistant was great at helping me find the right fit for my glasses and Dr. Cheng took it one step further and helped me hone in on some good options that fit my face type. She also reached out to let me know when her Eyewear Shows were coming up, where there'd be discounts on frames and sales reps present (providing an even larger selection of glasses). Loved this! BUT, I think the best experience I had hands down w/ Dr. Cheng was when I received my final pair of eyeglasses and found myself saying out loud: "Omg! Everything's so SHARP." I actually wore my glasses to dinner that night just because I was so happy with how clear everything looked. Granted, I only really need my glasses for when I'm at work designing, but I was so over the moon with them that I couldn't resist the urge to keep them on for a bit. I now wear them everyday at work per Dr. Cheng's advice to wear them before my eyes get fatigued (vs. my old habits of throwing them on when my eyes get tired). Makes perfect sense! About a year ago I lost my glassed in the ocean and have been suffering with an emergency pair since them. I made an appointment at Global and was very surprised that the optometrist spent more than an hour with me trying to fully understand my vision needs- You see, I am an engraver: I make my living with my hands and eyes, I do very high end work and need to be able to see in close and further away, or I am out of business. She, Dr. Lee, made me several temporary sets to walk around with and try at different focal lengths in the office- something no one has EVER done for me before, and she helped me find a pair of frames that would work will for my needs. Then the gal out front, Jasmine, was very helpful in ordering frames that she thought might be perfect for me and made it clear that if I didn't like them or they didn't fit my face I was under no obligation to purchase. Well, I liked them but they were too big so the other front lady, Emily spent more than an hour finding me something that would fit well. Then she measured the frames on my face several time to make sure they ground the lenses to match the center of my eyes. She kept measuring and checking to make sure it was perfect. They told me 10 days and it was only 5 to get the glasses. They are perfect and at the age of 54 I can say I finally have an eyecare professional and store that I feel loyal about. I think I may have paid more than at the mall but in this instance the value is in getting it right so when I am engraving someone's wedding ring I can be confident the job is as good as I can be done. Dr. Jennifer Juang is super detailed-oriented and I have the complex eye conditions. in the past, I have some doctors telling me that I did not know how to tell what is clear or not before. I've been coming here since 2014 and it is hands down the best eyecare you can receive in the Bay. Dr. Cheng and Dr. Lee are brilliant when it comes to helping me customize my contact lense prescription. They're very thorough and explain everything to you. Most importantly, they care a lot about their patients. Any time my eyes are hurting, the contacts are fitting weird, I want to change my glasses, etc., they never hesitate to find me an appointment or time to come in right away. I have been coming here for almost 5 years because of my daughter needs Ortho K vision treatment. Overtime, I get to know the ladies at the front desk fairly well, especially Jasmine. They have always been very helpful checking our eligibility and making sure schedule check up as soon as our benefits are available. I started coming whenever I need to adjust or repair legs on my reading glass since they are conveniently located inside Ranch 99. I was devastated when Jasmine told me my favorite/newest pair can't be repaired because of the metal spring henge was broken. While I was still in shock, Jasmine quickly located an identical frame and replaced it for me. It was that quick thinking and going over and beyond to provide good customers service push me over joy. I have been going to GEO for about two years now and always have a great experience. Yes it's in a grocery store, but don't let that fool you-- this office functions as a completely different entity. Dr. Cheng is great; she spends thorough time and effort to make sure I am getting the best prescription. I have been to many optometrists and she does not skimp on finding the best solution for my eyes, which is not an easy feat. The staff is also very helpful when it comes to picking frames, verifying insurance (within an hour of requesting!), and responding to general questions. They also don't shy away from texting for communication which is always a plus. I've been to this office during COVID as well as pre-pandemic and can say their cleanliness has never been an issue and I am very picky when it comes to hygiene at an optometry office. Practically everyone in my family goes there to have there eyes checked. That says quite a bit because we are all very particular and have had three different optometrists. Doctors are very thorough with craft and address your specific needs. For example: I have minor correction in my right eye where I really only need them for driving at night and not for far vision during the day. Doc gave me a prescription that was just right per my request. They work with my vision insurance and the selection of eyewear frames is extensive and much much better than Costco. Prices are very competitive. I ordered a pair of cool looking Ted Baker glasses for a great deal. Also, a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses are much cheaper than elsewhere. Of course, that's with my insurance benefit. Kudos to the staff as well because they are all very friendly! Lastly, this place is in a 99 Ranch Supermarket and I expected everyone to speak Chinese, Cantonese or Mandarin. Well, I'm American Chinese and speak only English. One of their staff Juan was very patient to answer my questions. After going the place, Donna was very nicely from answer my questions to give me some free trial contact lenses and a bottle of Moisture. Dr. Cheng is friendly and professional. After weeks of searching for a new optometrist in the Dublin area, I was exhausted. I called office after office and their hours were not only limited but did not cater to anyone who has a full-time job. Disappointed and defeated, I found Dr. Helen Cheng on Yelp. I couldn't believe that I wasted this much time when I could've just made an appointment online and be happy! Their online appointment system is very easy and fast to use. A few simple questions, jotting down your information and submit = you have an appointment confirmation. I was so elated to find a optometry office that had weekend hours. I have to commute from SF to Dublin everyday and trying to make office hours at 5 or 6 PM is not fun at all. The office location is inside 99 Ranch. I was super skeptical since I hate the idea that I would be going to an Asian supermarket to get my eyes checked. Seeing as how they're a small space, I thought they would try to scam their patients but I was completely wrong. My prescription barely changed and the staff and Dr. Cheng advised that I should save my money and keep wearing my frames and current lenses. I would not notice or see a difference since I wear contacts more often and glasses were just a backup. Most other optometry offices would have leapt at the idea of charging me more but they were upfront, honest and did not try to push extra unnecessary costs on me. With my co-pay from my VSP insurance plan and 1-full year of contact lens supply, I paid $110. This does not include my rebate of $50-75 (I haven't checked yet) so the grand total I paid out of pocket was between $60-35 if the rebate kicks in correctly. Very cool! My husband also saw Dr. Cheng the same day. She was very patient and took extra time to answer his questions without making us feel rushed. Unfortunately, had a very poor experience at his previous optometry office and had many questions in which he was hoping to have answered. He was very pleased with the service he received here and will be arranging a follow-up fitting appointment. The staff here was kind enough not to charge us for his fitting and exam fee because they had not fully completed it. The reason why they could not complete the exam was because Dr. Cheng had to order a trial pair of contacts that she wanted to make sure fitted my husband before proceeding to order him a year's supply. How awesome is that to have a doctor who gives a damn about their patients!?!? I did notice that they did not have a wide selection of glasses and sunglasses but that's to be expected for a very small office. I feel like for the ones they did have, they are very tailored for Asian faces so beware if you have a bigger framed face: the frames here will not fit you! Bottom line: If you're seeking weekend hours at a top-notch optometry office in the Dublin/Pleasanton area, go here! I'm definitely glad I went to get my eyes checked up here. :) read more

The review is not for eye exam done by Dr Helen Cheng, but the eye glass service. Dr. Cheng was patient and provided quite useful tips during my eye exam including eye dilation. Unfortunately after the eye exam, it was a humiliating experience to me. I have two insurance coverage (one from myself and one from my spouse). I know I always have an expensive eye glasses, which is the reason for my double insurance. The front office lady (called Emily) quoted me lens = $358, the cheapest frame after insurance = $40 additional, and copay of $35, total $433 for a complete pair. With my other insurance credit, she told me that I still needed to pay $240, the most expensive eye glasses quote I ever got. For an out-of-pocket $240 pair of eye glasses , I really wanted to do some comparison shopping before the commitment. Now it got very interesting. So I ask Emily for a copy of my eye exam report with the prescription info (I saw earlier Dr. Cheng gave the front desk a copy), Emily simply started to pretended that I was not even existed. I asked her multiple times. She was still very hesitate. Finally she made a copy of my insurance policy not the eye exam report and gave that to me. Since my eyes were dilated, I was not sure until much later. I was so angry with this kind of deceptive business practice. My insurance did pay them for my eye exam service, so I deserved a report of my eye exam. The real reason I wanted the prescription info again is to do some comparison shopping. If the price from Global Eyecare Optometry is competitive or even slightly high, I would come back for the eye glasses since I really appreciated the eye exam service I got. Now I am just simply disgusted with this place. Again this review is not for the optometrist, but the shop. Follow up: Dr Cheng emailed me the prescription report for my eye exam. Dr. Helen Cheng was the most comfortable and knowledgeable optometrist I've experienced. I arrived with friendly faces offering me magazines and candy as I was early for my appointment. Helen took her time with me as my old prescription with a past optometrist didn't seem correct. She offered me a some of options of contact lenses to try for a couple of days. Helen followed up with me to see what was the best fit for me. I ordered with her and she even found a great rebate for my order. My contacts were shipped to me and it only took a few days. Helen is super flexible with scheduling and the location is easy to find. I'm referring her to all the "blind" people like me to go to her! read more

This is the first place I came to when I wanted to replace my very outdated pair of glasses, and then I shopped around some more and decided to come back here to get them done. Their prices are competitive and cheaper than other shops around the area and the employees are welcoming. Dr. Cheng and Jasmine are great! They were both very friendly and helpful in getting me a pair of frames I liked. I literally tried on 50 frames maybe, and I was glad they didn't seem annoyed with me. They were also very good about making sure the glasses fit on my asian nose correctly, and they offered to fix anything wrong afterwards free of charge. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to discuss my visit here. I came in for a check up and the staff were very friendly and attentive. While I was waiting for my appointment, I was looking at the large frame selection. There were lots to choose from! If you're Asian, like me, they have a vast array of frames for Asian faces, too. Since this was my first check up in a long time, Dr. Cheng guided me through all the tests. She explained what she was doing and what she was looking for. She answered all of my questions about the health of my eyes. Dr. Cheng also took a picture of my retina! That was something I've never had done before. Dr. Cheng is a very good optometrist.
