in 25 years, I've dealt with dozens of independent BMW shops all over North America. I've not experienced a higher level of cordiality, a greater degree of sympathy, respect and honesty as when I conducting business with Total German Motorworks. I showed up unannounced with a serious issue (ignition switch failure) ... I could not shut the car off (as I would have remained stranded wherever I'd parked it). I pled my case to the owner and he said they were booked but would get to it later in the week with a diagnosis. I could tell they were familiar with the usual issues and I left confident. It turned out to be relatively simple. They expedited the repair on my car and it was, in fact, completed _before_ I'd even managed to make it back home. Same day. Additionally, as I had disassembled most of the steering column in search of a resolution, the shop charged approximately .10 of a billable hour of labor. I thought it was a typo. Not a billable hour or half-hour of labor but about .10 of an hour. Additionally, they retained the original defective part and provided it upon my return. If you have a "vintage" BMW of any sort (or modern, for that matter) do not hesitate to contact this shop. read more

My BMW had windshield wipers that made noise, a rubbing sound, when working. I took the car to this company and Chris used a wiper that should have worked he said. The new wipers made noise. Chris's assistant found that the new wiper wasn't stiff enough so Chris order the manufacturer's recommended wiper. The 2nd set of new wipers worked perfectly. Although I had to push a little for wipers that didn't make noise, this shop gave quick service with a smile and no extra charge read more

Perry is the best German car mechanic in the west... He was able to take my 1990 bmw convertible and not only get it running but it drives like new... My car had been sitting for 3 to 4 years..... I brought it to Perry at Totally German and 4 days later I drove the car out of the shop and it felt like the day I left the dealer 22 years ago... I was visiting AZ when my car broke down. Called up these guys, let them know what was going on and they immediately got me in! They got my BMW fixed, fast! Replace the water pump and replaced my tensioner Pullys- dropped my car off at noon, parts were deliver within a few hours and I was on my way home by 5! Inherited a 1979 450 SL that had not been driven in a couple years and barely started. I live in CO and needed the car road worthy quickly. Ryan worked some magic and got me in quickly. The car needed a fair amount of work to say the least and it was impressive how fast they did everything from engine to brakes to transmission. The shop stuck to the estimate and fixed a couple things they found getting into it as agreed to do. I drove the car 900 miles through the mountains and it ran like a champ. My 1st review was good, but now I will never go back to these guys ! They did a pre inspection on my MB and said they found nothing wrong. 1 week later my windshield washer was leaking so I called and left 3 messages on there very un-professional phone system, not even sure if it was them ! The parking lot has more holes than in NYC ! They never called back and found out I need STRUTS & and Oil Seal they did not find ! Well I dumped the car and now have a BMW with a warranty but they will never see this car ! read more

I had a check engine light pop up on my BMW and during cold starts in morning a puff of white smoke would be exhausted. These guys know their German vehicles. I won a 2001 BMW 325i in a charity raffle. I had to have it towed to a different shop because the door lock stopped working. While there, they determined that I needed $5,000 in repairs. I then took it to Totally German because that's where the car had been serviced for 5 years. Perry reviewed all of the other shop's recommendations and walked me through an inspecition. I saw for myself that nothing on the list was beyond reasonable for the age of the car and did not require any repairs but also the water pump was listed as leaking and it clearly was not! Since then, I have been in several times with great results on all repairs. A couple of times, the replacement parts were defective and Perry made sure that I had a ride if needed. I found them to be reasonable on labor rates and the time needed to complete repairs. Perry told me that he has been a certified BMW "mechanic" since around 1980. Every time I've had a problem or a strange noise coming from the car, he immediately knows the cause even before taking a look! Well, 95% of the time. No BS. All of the guys are friendly and courteous. I trust Perry and his crew. I've been driving for almost 40 years and so I've had a lot of car repairs and seen a lot of mechanics and shops. These guys are in the top 1% in my opinion. My car engine is supposed to last 700,000 to 800,000 miles. Lord Willing, all things being the same, I'll be taking it to Perry.
