I have used Torres Tree Service for 10 years they have always done a good job until this year. Not only have their prices gone up but their service has gone down. They did not complete their work and promised to come back to finish. That has not happened after waiting over 3 weeks. Now they are just blowing me off. I received an email quote and contract which I signed and confirmed a start date. Very professional until the start date came and went with no communication. I kept calling and finally by the end of the day they answered with an excuse that their truck broke down. They rescheduled me two more times, the second no show was because their brakes weren't working. Also no calls either time and they stopped answering their phone. I strongly advise against using David Torres Tree "Service." After waiting for two weeks with empty promises, the crew finally showed up at the wrong address. To make matters worse, they claimed they were too tired and couldn't complete the job due to the heat. This could happen to anyone but to claim this every service I requested is unbelievable. For the last 4 years I have been dealing with this guy, he always lies and I try to be patient, but now I am fed up. This level of incompetence and lack of professionalism is shocking. Unreliable...Unresponsive... Unprofessional... missed two appointments, never called, always an excuse. I've used this company twice before and have been happy with the results, but not recently. These guys were responsive to the initial inquiry, then were impossible to reach for scheduling. They never replied to emails. Finally we confirmed an 8/24 appointment, which they no showed. No call or apology or offer to reschedule. When I asked about rescheduling, they confirmed 8/26 at 7:30AM They no showed again. No call to let me know what happened. I called them 5 hours after the missed appointment and the lady said the crew had an accident on the way to my appointment. We hired David and his team in July 2012 to remove three trees, each of them between 20-30 feet tall: 1. Podocarpus 2. Melaleuca (multi-trunk) 3. Melaleuca (single-trunk) The work included stump grinding of all three trees and removal. Many contractors can remove a tree. What sets them apart (like any contractor) is the attention to detail: - Is the remaining area clean and left well? - Is there any collateral damage? - If there are any final issues, will they resolve them? Their team did a good job in removing the trees and grinding the stumps, however, they did destroy a sprinkler line. When I asked them to fix it, they did, but more on that later... Removing three trees is no easy job, and it's even harder to do it and leave a clean worksite after completed. Here's where David and his team missed the mark. They dragged branches through my yard (along the sidewalk), brushed along the exterior home siding, along the driveway, and into the back of their truck. When I called David to ask him to remedy the situation he suggested I paint over the walls and buy a product called "Krud Kutter" from Home Depot or Lowes to clean the sidewalk and driveway. When I complained a bit more he reminded me that he repaired the sprinkler pipe... yes... the one he broke. I have had the opportunity to recommend Torres Tree Service to my neighbors but I have not done so because of my experience. read more

Please be careful using these guys. Our neighbor hired them to remove a few tree's and we ended up with very large branches falling in our property and on our roof and fence. They came onto our property without permission and left the gate open, thank goodness our dog did not get out. When I asked them to please not enter our property nor leave the gate open without permission, I was told to "take it easy lady". Highly recommend NOT USING THIS company. So rude and we have never experienced such large branches falling without being tied or succured. read more

I contacted Torres Tree service and someone came right out to give a bid and by the next day I had a bid on my email and could not believe the price difference compared to the others , it was 1/3-1/2 less than every other bid. The customer service is excellent and I knew I was dealing with a well run company. They came today, were efficient, professional and did an INCREDIBLE job with the area, clean up. And they did it in a short amount of time! They made this so easy , I am so happy I found them on Yelp! Also a few of my bricks on planter were chipped with the falling trunks and they have a handyman who repairs if accidents occur. They take care of everything and I could not recommend them enough! The guys came on time, and went beyond and above , I am amazed at how great the trees look, lot's of dead in my cypress trees, and other issues. If you want to get left hanging without them calling or showing up, then choose these guys! I heard about them a lot in some mom groups, and a couple friends of friends word of mouth. Got excited and called them for an appointment with David. They cancelled and rescheduled it, no biggie. Waited for them to show...no show....called to see if they were coming, and they "had another appt, and that they were going to call earlier but forgot to tell me they cancelled!!" Torres Tree Service has failed to show up twice now to perform the tree and Ivy trimming. They were to arrive this morning at 7:30 so I stayed home from work and they texted saying they would be here at 11:30, then they said 1:30 after lunch. No show, called and no answer, texted no answer for an hour. They are 5 minutes out, no show, then excuse that their truck was overheating. She said that they were in our community but the hill was too severe to get to our house because of the work they already did today! If not for your good advice, we'd have missed a lot of great connections to fantastic products and services. So let me be honest . . . I read Torres Tree Service reviews before calling, in spite of cautionary posts. What swayed me? The overall star count. 4-5 stars and I'll give anyone a second chance. OUR JOB: Trim our neighbor's ficus trees back to the fence line. The overgrowth robbed our yard of sunlight, and the overhanging upper branches reached out and nearly touched our house. The yard felt cavelike. SCHEDULE: I contacted TTS by email. David Torres came out the next day. 1/2 hour early. A good sign. He quoted a reasonable price with estimated time span of 1.5 hrs. The crew would arrive in a few days to remedy our problem. Quick service. Another good sign. THE APPOINTMENT came and went. NO SHOW. NO PHONE CALL. And when I called the office and David's cellphone two hours after the crew was expected to arrive, I received no answer. A few hours later Darlene from the office called to reschedule. She said we'd receive a 25% discount on the original quote. RESCHEDULE: A few days later the 5-man crew arrived 20 minutes early driving a large truck towing a branch chipper. No joke. THE JOB: One man clipped the taller branches with an extended hand clipper. The second man walked the fence using a buzz saw to get the heavy, thicker foliage. The other men hauled loads of branches to the chipper. The fifth man started feeding limbs thru the machine. Very effecient. Micheal, the foreman, checked with me along the way to be sure they were trimming enough. FINISH: While our backyard is tiny there's lots of places stray branches and twigs can hide. The Torres team used a blower, rake and broom to leave the yard (front and back) immaculate. OUTCOME: This morning we woke up to sunlight streaming through our kitchen window. Perhaps the grass will revitalize. We'll see. OVERALL we might have experienced a few bumps and bruises in the road, but the outcome met our expectations. read more

I figured that the service would improve after dealing with such a fiasco last week (see last update). I FINALLY got service scheduled with a time that worked for everyone (today between 1:30 - 4:30pm)! Yay! Ummm.... queue the waiting. My experience with them the other two times we had service was AMAZING and I am so sad that I have to write this review while I still am waiting for them to come... at 5:30pm. At 4:30 I called their number and it went to voice mail. Which was full. I was then given the option to send an SMS text, so I did (only option was to enter my 10-digit call back number). I sent an email to David Torres quoting the confirmation email I received for our service today and have yet to be contacted that someone was running late, or that that they need to reschedule. *sigh* I may be willing to give them one more chance because I like their work, but MAN.... This customer service should be in a book of what NOT to do or the steps to tank your business. The worst thing anyone can do to me, personally, is not keep your word. You say you'll call back (previous fiasco), you say you'll email me for service scheduling, you say you'll call me to see if everything got taken care of, you say I'll be satisfied with the service today, you say you'll be here today between 1:30 and 4:30.... Gettin' too old for this pruning stuff. Hubby had been chopping and pruning for several months but never got around to dumping it all. Then a tree died, and another just needed to be removed. So it suddenly became way overwhelming. I think there were a few possums made home in the piles. Ugh. Enter David Torres. Young man extraordinaire. And his father, hard working, rough handed but bright eyed and friendly Pedro. First impressions are everything. Yelper's reviews sealed the deal. They are the real thing, David's word is good as gold. When he says he will be there at such and such a time, he is, even though he had a long drive in bad traffic. He and his father are knowledgeable and reasonable. Papa and a helper came two days later as planned, on time, worked their you-know-whats off, cleaned everything up when they were done. Being a home handyman I've tackled some marginal difficult projects, I just spent a weekend cutting out concrete slab to find a broken sprinkler line. That was a pain in the ass. But I digress, my backyard has several palm trees that look great but the CONSTANTLY drop these little seeds and pods into my pool. The pods are just the right size to get stuck in my automatic pool cleaner and stop it from functioning. No problem! I bought a gigantic little giant ladder system and a extension electric chainsaw. I set it up and proceeded to cut out a gigantic pod that wasn't open and holding a billion seeds. The problem was the palm leaves and pod move around freely so the chainsaw had a hard time cutting them. The even better problem was when the pod finally did cut and fall, to my surprise it weighed probably 20 pounds and when it hit me I almost fell off the 14 feet of ladder. I'm dumb but certainly not THAT DUMB. I sheepishly came down, changed my underwear ;), and put all the gear away. I called David and he came out and wrote out a bid, it was much cheaper than I thought it would be, especially since I only had three cut mid way because I'm going to carve them out as tiki's later. The other three were cut to the ground. His crew arrived this morning right on time and proceeded to cut the palms in record time. In about two hours they were finished, one of their guys cleaned up the sawdust and mess and they grinded up the pieces and went off to their next appointment. In summary, great job, great cleanup and very professional from start to finish. Unfortunately for Torres tree service, I don't have any more big trees or palms so they will have to wait a hundred years until my remaining palms get big enough to cut. I have used this tree service many times and haven't had an issue, until today. I had a scheduled appointment and they were a no show. I waited an Called their number on their website and their mailbox is full. Couldn't even leave a message nor did they call me to say they couldn't make it. Wow that's really bad. Sigh Update: they called me and said they had a computer glitch and I rescheduled for the next Tuesday at the same time. The day before they called me and requested to come out at 7 am instead of 10:20 am. I reluctantly texted ok because they also left me a text message. This was one of my few days to sleep in. 7 am comes and goes and no one comes to my house! Wow it happened again! Left them an email and a text message and no reply. I used this tree company at least 3 times previously and never had a problem. They read my text message, when I asked them what happened. Wanted to write about this great service! I have been using them for almost 8 years and they never disappoint. Not only are they reasonably priced, they do an amazing job and the clean up is extremely thorough. We have 15 palms, have pool in the yard and turf. All this could be an enormous mess. After reading Yelp reviews, I used Torres Tree Service to remove a 50' + stone pine from the backyard of my home. From the moment I met David Torres, when he arrived to do the estimate, I was impressed. The Company is terrific ... here's why: 1) they came on the date and time they promised they would 2) their price was fair and reasonable 3) their employees are well trained and looked professional ... all wear shirts with the company name. The trucks are clean, painted and have the appearance of being well maintained 4) It took 2 1/2 days to remove the tree and stump to ground level 5) the property was left clean at the end of each day. Also, another 1/2 day was provided to insure that the property was returned, just as it had been, before they started (flower pots, electrical for outside lights, driveway and street clean) It's rare to experience a home connected service company promise and complete a job exactly as the homeowner envisioned PLUS to do more than promised I've already referred them to a neighbor. We were very impressed with the professionalism and skill of Torres Tree Service. The owner, David, came out to give us an estimate and it was clear that he was very knowledgeable about trees. His team of Arturo and Chuy were friendly and approached the tasks in an organized manner and had very good attention to detail, always making sure we were pleased with each tree before moving on to the next. I am a homeowner in West LA and have had the good fortune of Torres Tree care for almost 20 years. My Chinese elm in the parkway was last trimmed in Nov 2019 and looks magnificent this year! Each house on my street has a Chinese elm but my tree is the real eye catcher. Only recently 4 months ago David's crew came out and shaped/trimmed a bay laurel tree flanking my front porch and a bottlebrush tree on my side porch. Both trees have lovely healthy new growth. David is a very nice person and has a strong knowledge of trees. If I was just rating tree service, I would rate them higher. This rating is based on Sod work and follow up over the past two years. Their follow up is not consistent and the work they performed was average when I rate their work on the sod, sprinkler and the mulch. My landscaper showed me they placed the mulch too high up next to the house so I had to hire someone else to fix that issue. In addition, my entire lawn died. It turned black. That happen 13 months after the job so warranty does not cover that. If you need to add a tree or remove, they are solid. Just don't do lawn work or other services beyond trees. I would also check references to assess their follow up. They rate low based on my experiences with other vendors. There always seems to be an emergency. read more

We had 2 trees removed from our yard and they executed the removal with fine precision. As the tree was being removing they controlled every branch with ropes and pulleys to ensure they we working safely and to avoid a rogue limb from falling unexpectedly. So we had them come back this month to remove a tree that was pushing our block wall over. Called several times for quote, finally received it. Here is where things go downhill. The tree crew was professional and hard working. No problem with them. The problem is with the front office folks. Had an appointment on a Tuesday for the work starting at 12. Called them at 3 to find out where they were. Was told they were running late. Long story short, never heard from them until 6 that night that they were not coming. Rescheduled the next day. I like most people have a super busy life, but he was able to give me a quote with a contract agreement all by texting/emailing pictures.
