I ordered every meat & every side. I am dumbfounded. I don't know that I've ever had worse "bbq" & I NEVER write bad reviews. The service was great! Folks in their weren't very extraverted, but when they do communicate w/folks they do a wonderful job. You also eat in a room of windows, so their isn't much for decor except newspaper clippings telling you how wonderful they are. I always want to be overly nice when giving a review, but outside of the staff there is nothing I could remotely recommend. Heard another customer next to us look our way and say he "wouldn't even feed this to their dog" (pointing at us). How are they still opening locations? Stopped here on a Friday night during a layover en route to Texas. We drove to another place - they were closed - I almost killed us on those stupid frontage roads that have no definitive lines and you take your life into your hands by merging onto the interstate. We went into the drive thru and ordered a couple of sandwiches and a plate of food. It was later in the night - and the meat was really dry and not that good. I was surprised to see so many bad reviews about this restaurant. Although we had to wait 30 min to get our food, we otherwise had a good experience. Staff was polite and patient with us as we struggled to understand the menu. Brisket had very minimal extra fat and had great sweet, tangy sauce. Beans were flavorful with pieces of pork. Tops is a perfect fast food place to get some on bbq when you're outside of Memphis and on the road. That's about the only time you want to come here. My wife ordered their brisket sandwich, which was ok. Wasn't a big fan of it. I ordered their pork sandwich with Cole slaw and it was actually a pretty decent sandwich. The pork was very tasty and had good flavor. Service was friendly and quick and the restaurant was pretty clean. Not sure if I'd repeat this unless, like previously stated I'm on the road and not in Memphis. If I was bbq though, I would still make every effort to get into Memphis. First, our expectation was not very high seeing that this is more or less a "fast food" bbq place. That being said, the food was pretty good. The dining area and restrooms were in pretty bad shape, cleanliness wise, which is an automatic "scratch this one off the list" for my wife. Still, we both enjoyed our meals. I got a nice 1/4 pound cheeseburger with all the fixings. Nice and juicy and seasoned well. Crinkle cut fries were nice too. Wish I stayed in town long enough to try some of their slow cooked stuff. I was dying for some local BBQ while on a road trip and pulled in here at Tops There was nobody at the customer service counter and I waited three or four minutes before I finally had to call for the attention of the girl just six feet away for me in the kitchen facing me. Another girl came to the counter and she was absolutely rude, wiping her nose and almost not even paying attention to me. I had to ask for customer service I had to ask her to take my order, her language and her manners were completely unprofessional. She never said please or thank you, barely spoke to me and was completely not interested. Cup for my beverage was handled by the same fingers she wiped her nose with. I was disgusted. When she wasn't looking, I reached for another cup. When my sandwich came out, I was very underwhelmed by only 4 oz of beef brisket slapped onto a McDonald's bun and already squirted haphazardly with mild BBQ sauce. It was wrapped in a paper wrapper and just thrown into the corner of a dine-in tray. The brisket itself was modestly warm, and a bit fatty. There wasn't much flavor the meat although at least it was moist. The barbecue sauce was underwhelming, so I had to add the spicy sauce. For an $8 sandwich, I hoped and expected a lot more than this. read more

No one at the counter as we had a few questions and despite staring at the three employees and them staring back at us they never came to the counter. Had to use the self order and just hope for the best. After ordering we found the restaurant dirty and most of the tables had not even been wiped down. After 15 minutes finally had to go to the counter bc and physically yell for an employee to even get us cups. When we did get the food the order was wrong but the food was very dry and tough. The sides were also sparse and not real good. I heard one of the workers tell another to just stop taking orders because it was too busy. I turned and counted 8 people inside. Save yourself the aggravation of this lackluster staff and less than mediocre food and just grab something from a vending machine. read more

How about zero stars? These are the worst ribs I have ever seen or tasted--an absolute disgrace. It is impossible for me to imagine worse, other than poisoning or maybe driving over them with a truck. We had to pay before we saw them, else we would have walked out. Allow me to describe the ribs. They were matted, like what hair does when the blood dries following blunt force trauma to the head. I have never seen ribs so thin or nasty looking. It must have been a flat pig from whence they came--or maybe a flounder. The meat was so dry that I could have written this review on it with a pencil. These ribs were probably under a heat lamp for 10-12 hours. I think they were seasoned with ketchup and sand. The bones were soft and crumbling. We had to be careful that we didn't accidently chew the bones, partly because there was so little meat on them. While waiting to be served, I browsed their dining area, where many accolades are hanging--testaments to their ribs and pulled pork especially. Forced to believe that some of their food must have been good once upon a time, I resigned myself to thinking that they just had a bad day. But this fact remains: THEY WILLINGLY SERVED WHAT I GOT AT LEAST ONCE. If you go there, you risk the same. From their accolades, it appears that this company has a proud reputation in Memphis, but in Marion, Arkansas, Tops needs a new name. I suggest Bottoms, as in bottom of the barrel. You can get better ribs if you will catch a pig or even a rodent yourself and take a bite while it is still alive. This location has tainted my opinion of the entire company. Stupid me failed to photo these ribs for your disgust. You should thank me. Needless to say, my wife and I will not return to this location, not even for free food and our $17 refund. Perhaps another location would be willing to host us as I describe and for that I would be willing to update this review. However, if you are passing by on I-55 and craving ribs, do yourself a big favor: Starve. read more

I love Tops. I stop here every time I'm in town. I always get a pork sandwich. Usually I buy the party pack. It's a great deal and the meat is great without sauce which is how you should get it. Sauce hides things. I like it on the side. I never buy ribs anywhere except Rendezvous. There's just too broad a range in what people think are good ribs. Brisket is for Texas. This is northeast Arkansas where hog is king. Get a large sweet tea while you're there too. We stopped here on a trip from Mississippi back home to Illinois. The smell of delicious smoked brisket lured us in. We went thru the drive-thru due to covid. We told them we were first timers to their establishment while we looked over the menu. My boyfriend and I each ordered a brisket sandwich combo, 1 with slaw and beans, the other with beans and potato salad. Each of the side items were delicious, thank goodness because the sandwiches were inedible!!!! The meat had been cut with the grain instead of against it and was full of fat! This is my first taste of Memphis BBQ, so I doubt it's the best, but it was pretty tasty. I ordered a meal with three meats, and had the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. The color of the brisket and pulled pork wasn't beautiful, but the meat was good. Of the three, the pulled pork was the best - very soft but not greasy, as some can be. The brisket was a bit fatty (I think I'm used to places cutting that off before serving). Ribs were pretty good; had more seasoning than the other two. I tried the sweet and medium sauces, but delicate palates be warned, both have a bit of a kick. I think KC sauces will always have my heart, but these weren't bad. I got potato salad and beans for sides. Potato salad was pretty standard; had eggs, which I like. The flavor of the brand wasn't show-stopping, but I was impressed with the amount of pork included. The venue itself looks like an old fast food stop. We got our food to go, and everything was nicely packed up. One thing, I think after certain hours they shut one of the doors - so trying walking around to the other side if you aren't doing drive-thru. read more

The speed of my order was pretty quick. Also the people working behind the counter were nice. So no complaints about the service. The food however was a different story. The first time I came here I tried the brisket. It was tough and seemed like it hadn't been cooked long enough. The second time I came here I tried the pulled pork. The pulled pork was rather bland, lacking any seasoning or anything. I will admit the ribs here are decent but that's about it for the meats. They do have good bbq sauce.The sides were good, I had potato salad and baked beans both times I came here. I honestly thought that was the best thing on the menu. This place is a run of the mill fast food bbq joint so don't expect nothing too fancy. One great feature about this place is the fact you can buy a bag of ice for 99¢.
