"And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air…read moreGold in them hills and it's waiting for me there" (Marshall Tucker Band) Fire On the Mountain has one of the most unique menus I've ever encountered. Seriously, where else have you ever seen breakfast quesadillas, catfish and grits, cheesecake cornbread waffles, smoked brisket hash, deep fried pork ribs, catfish, mushroom, and alligator tacos, and a Puerto Rican Rice Bowl all happily living in the same menu's neighborhood? And then, the icing on the cake was our server - a charismatic and uber-friendly gent named Bromwell who lights up the room with his personality. He made my list of the five greatest servers I interacted with this year. The restaurant's location is as unusual as its menu. You'll find it occupying the front space at the Suffield Commons Senior Living Apartments! Yup, as you walk through the restaurant and out their back door, you actually enter a common space for the housing complex. The restaurant itself has two dining rooms with booths, tables, and chairs and a bar with dining room chairs. That eclectic menu is chock full of breakfast, lunch, and dinner choices with Mexican and barbecue flairs. We were there for lunch and ordered two things. The first was an enormous Cheese Quesadilla ($9.35) with pork ($3.12) on a grilled flour tortilla served with sour cream and pico. It was a thing of beauty, cut into five thick wedges loaded with smoked pork. Our second item was a Caesar Salad (Half size for $6.23) with a side of smoked brisket ($9.36). I passed on the croutons and Caesar dressing in lieu of barbecue sauce as my dressing. I gotta tell you, the brisket was GREAT, a big serving of tender and juicy smoked beef cut into four slabs that must have totaled close to a half pound. We loved everything about Fire On the Mountain and agreed that we need to return for a proper breakfast when we are out that way or making a morning airport run. PRO TIP The restrooms are located in the housing complex's common space I described earlier/ Just exit the restaurant by the door in the rear dining room, and you're just about there.

Had myself some pancakes, scrambled eggs and potatoes and this hit the spot! Pancakes were huge filled with blueberries. Potatoes were crisp as I had asked. And when I order scrambled eggs with cheese this is exactly how I want them made, fluffy and mixed together. They have alligator on the menu and as temped as I was to order, I will save that for next time.

This time we brought another couple of friends with us and ordered a full platter. It was served up in a matter of minutes and it incredibly completely filled three platters with assorted barbecue, including a full rack of ribs, pulled pork, sliced turkey, a quarter chicken and bratwurst, not to mention sliced pickles and rolls. Of course we selected three sides to come with it (which were included): a nice smoked potato salad, cider coleslaw, and cider braised sautéed greens. We added two homemade sauces, peach chipotle and applejack. Well the ribs were smoked using applewood and were so tender the meat fell off the bone. Everything was delicious and the sauces were superb which came as no surprise since they were made using fruit from the restaurant's adjoining farm. To wash it down we ordered an apple cider slushy which was thick with flavor. Again, no surprise, as there is an apple orchard on the farm. We were so stuffed that we joyfully took about half of the food home with us! I've enjoyed barbecue for a number of decades, including down in Memphis, and I must say that this no-frills restaurant with outdoor and indoor picnic table seating can play in the same league as some of the more renowned barbecue joints, certainly in the Capital and Hudson Valley regions. Come see yourself and while you're at it, check out an amazing distillery next-door as well as the wonderful adjoining farmstand (cider doughnuts!).

As a…read morebarbecue lover living in the city where it's often expensive and strangely absent from many menus, I simply couldn't leave without getting myself a plate. We ordered a half rack of ribs to split, waiting about 15-minutes for our name to be called (too long for two people frothing at the mouth for it). The ribs came undressed, but you could help yourself to as much sauce as you like at the counter. We tried both the apple and chipotle sauces, preferring the former, which was sweet and smokey. It paired perfectly with the tender, fatty ribs. When I think back on it as I am right now, I salivate. My husband also ordered their brisket sandwich (available only on Sundays), which looked just as appetizing as the ribs. The meat was cooked wonderfully medium rare with a charred exterior and a slightly pink interior. My husband ate that heartily. It was one of our favorite bites of the trip. I'm envious of my past self for enjoying that meal while I sit here now, craving it but unable to have it again.

Went to dinner tonight and never experienced anything like this before…read more First off the place had 2 people dining In it to start at 6pm on a Sunday. Second our wings came out let's talk about Jumbo they definitely were not Jumbo they were little petite size with some horseradish on side. Didn't realize after that if you want blue cheese it's $1 a piece. Next the main event well food was cold- Mac n cheese cold. Ribs were hard and dry. Burnt ends dry. I am not sure what you call the baked beans but they were terrible. We were a party of 12 and 3 of us told them to take the food back it was that bad. They remade some ribs but they were no better. Than on top of this the manager never came out to address us with the issue of our food and why we took our plates back. So after waiting for awhile for our bill we finally get it and they tried to charge us for the 3 plates we didn't eat and sent back. The waitress went and got the manager who approaches the table not to say hello can I help you but to say I hear you are refusing to pay for your food Well we Beginning to tell him what happened so he repeats so your skipping out on your bill. So we started to say the people that ate and kept there good will pay he repeats so your skipping out on the whole bill. At this time we said we are not but if you feel that way call the police. Which is what he did. Advised them we are trying to not pay for our food. The police arrive and we explain everything to them. Tell me why the 3 meals now were not on the bill anymore. Funny huh. I truly will tell you that this establishment treated us unfairly. I feel like this was a racial issue considering we were 10 black people and 2 white people by the way he spoke to us and treated us. The two officers that came agreed with us and we paid our bill and left. This place should truthfully take smokehouse off the sign cause there is no smokehouse happening at this place. No smell of BBQ no taste of BBQ and definitely no good BBQ. I wouldn't waste your money at all at this place and let me tell you. Our lawyers are definitely going to be in contact with you on how unjust we were treated
