I was looking for a new salon and this one had great reviews so I gave it a shot but unfortunately I did not have a good experience here. They were extremely nice but overall the manicure was terrible and pedicure was not good. It all felt rushed - they were late for my apt, but continued to take walk-ins and therefore my apt was rushed and the work showed. I had to ask for my nails to be redone and they were still so bad, I had to redo them myself after I left. Terrible cuticle work, poorly filed nails, polish didn't cover the nails and fuzz was on them, unevenness in length and polish. The pedicure was fine but also had uneven toenails and there was little attention to my heels/feet, so overall felt like a half pedicure. It looks like they do amazing design work, but for a regular mani/pedi this was a flop. read more

Update: the owner reached out and has refunded my service. As well as apologized for the experience. I booked an appointment for gel nails and gel pedicure with callus treatment and a longer foot massage. I left with a gel manicure and a regular polish pedicure. The gel manicure is messy and so thick the nails don't even look like they have a shape. The gel is pooled to one side and the tips. The pedicure had no massage at all and just a severe exfoliation with sugar scrub to my shins. The pedicure is a mess with polish everywhere and my toe nails are all different lengths. The location is small and packed. It's dirty. The staff spend the entire time talking amongst each other in their native language. Truly upset as this place was recommended and I will never be returning. I wish Yelp allowed no stars read more

I've lived in Mill Valley for 20+ years and have cycled through many nail salons in the area. I think I've finally found my home run with Top Coat. My nails are stronger than they've ever been, and the shape and length are perfect for my hands. I always ask for Brandy, because she knows what I like and will go the extra mile to make sure I am happy when I leave. Take note, lots of clients seem to love the neck massage add-on. This was my first time here, the place looks nice and is very quiet but one of the staff is not kind or respectful I don't know the name of the lady who did my pedicure but from the start she was rude. She bumped into me and said sorry I thought it was an accident didn't think anything of it. She proceeded to fill up the pedicure machine with water so I sat down. She came back with the colors and literally tossed them at me when she could've handed them to me. I didn't say anything I was in shock, I'm just trying to get my pedicure done and my toe nail "fix" because it's ingrown. I asked her if she can fix it she said yes (she didn't t) she cuts my toe nails with the nail clippers and at no point does she files them to give them a shape. She proceeded to oil and barely buff my feet. While the other staff seem nicer and warmer the one who did my pedicure (black hair with glasses and wore a all black nurse scrubs) was extremely rude the entire time and just seemed feed up. she moved my feet from the towel to the machine to dry the gel polish she would do it very aggressively. The process felt rushed and uncomfortable.... I've never experienced this at a nail salon and to make things worst when I payed she said $60 I gave her $80 and asked twice for change she looked me in the eye and said thank you 3 times, $20 tip? For bad service and being rushed and feeling uncomfortable the entire time. I don't think so, that was forced basically stolen from me worst EXPERIENCE EVER. read more

I have been going to TopCoat every 3 weeks for the last year, and sadly will not be returning. Each time I booked online, the price listed would be one thing, but when I arrived in person, the cost was suddenly $5+ higher with no explanation. When I asked about it, the price would immediately revert to the original online amount. I always got a simple, plain manicure (no designs or extras), so it's unclear why the price kept changing. On another visit, I was charged $20 to remove my gel polish. This fee wasn't listed anywhere online or mentioned during booking, only told to me in person. Most concerning, during that removal my nails were shaved down so much that they became bright red and painful afterward (significantly worse than I have ever experienced elsewhere upon removal). I don't mind paying fair prices for good work, but I do expect pay transparency. If you're increasing your prices, at least list it online so there's no confusion in person. It felt like the nail techs just decided whatever price they wanted since this happened my last 3 appointments. read more

Candy is my go to gal here for Gel X. She is so sweet, friendly, and professional. I have been coming here for some years now and have never left disappointed and my nails always last so long. I really like this nail salon so far. I've been twice, once for gel-x/pedicure and once just for a gel-x fill. I've had two different techs and both have done a great job. Everyone is friendly and the place is clean. If you bring in a picture of what you want they can replicate it exactly. I went for a walk in appoint. I just wanted my existing polish removed and gel polish on my fingers. The lady drilled my nail bed down so thin that It actually hurt at one point I yanked away. Then she struggled to put the extension on one of my nails. After two days the gel polish was coming off and my nails start splitting in half. This is my go-to nail salon!! Amy, Candy, and Hellen all do exceptional nail designs. I always book with them to get gel x with design and they ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS deliver exactly what I ask for. I show them some reference pics and they nail it every time. They will also give you recommendations and be honest with you if the design you want won't look good on the shape you ask for and will work with you to get the best looking results. Just look at my videos and you can see for yourself how talented they are. And my nails last 3-4 weeks without lifting. They definitely pay very close attention to the nail prep and take their time prepping the nails. They are pretty reasonably priced too! read more

This review doesn't anything to do with the quality of the nails, because I love their work, but the salon smells like grease/fried food. I didn't think of it much until I got home and my clothes and hair smelled like it. I had to take my clothes to the dry cleaners just to get the smell out. In my opinion, it's not worth the experience of having to get your clothes dry cleaned after. Good nails, ok customer service and terrible location with fried food restaurant smell next door coming through the walls. read more

I normally don't review places but I did not have a great time here. They took two hours on my acrylic mani FILL. They filed all my acrylic and replaced it with builder gel without asking me. They were unable to do the curved cat eye effect they have displayed, and my nails were different lengths/shapes. I was in this salon last week and I can honestly say it will be my last. I've been coming here for a while now out of convenience and became a somewhat of a regular. All other times I've been satisfied with the nails and the treatment I receive from the girls. This last experience was unbelievable and humiliating... I'm not a confrontational person but I wish I had gotten up and left... I had an appointment for acrylic fill at 9:30 am and I showed up on time and was seated and one of the workers sat me down and they waited for the worker who knows how to do acrylic to come in so she could do my nails because not everyone knows how to do acrylic nails... once she arrived, she sat down and started working on my nails... A couple minutes after starting on my nails... in walks this white lady saying she had an appt at 11 am (later that day) but needed to go to the hospital with her father-in-law for an appointment and couldn't do it at the time she had booked it for and was asking to be seen now. My nail tech, without saying anything to me gets up and leaves me to help her. The lady tells her, I don't want to come in between you and her (me)... and the nail tech tells her someone else will come do mine... Mind you, she didn't ask me if I was ok with her leaving me, or if I could wait, nothing. She just gets up and leaves me. Some other lady came to see me but left because I'm assuming she didn't know how to do acrylic nails and eventually another lady came and did my nails but I also don't think she knew how to do acrylic because she was struggling to do my nails and I was left with bumpy nails that did not look good and three days later my nails were already coming off! Like I said I'm not a confrontational person but I should have just gotten up and left. I have been getting my nails done there for a while and I always tip them good and I am always on time to my appointments and I always show up.. I don't understand why they would treat me that way and give someone else priority over me... I hate to make this a race thing, but that's honestly how it felt... Needless to say I will never come back. I'll take my business elsewhere where I'm actually treated decently and my money and business is valued. read more
