This is only my third time coming to vintage nails but each time I've been very happy. This most recent visit I called last minute and was able to get myself in for a full set and my daughter in for a manicure. Christy (unsure of spelling) was friendly and incredibly focused on detail which I so appreciate! I don't like thick acrylics and always dislike gel on top because it just makes it even thicker. Christy assured me she could make them thin even with gel polish so I put my trust in her and she absolutely delivered! So my I've been on the hunt ever since my nail tech moved away. I've originally went to the NJ nails in the same plaza but they were book so I decided to try this place. I mentioned that I wanted to get my cuticle cut and all but they didn't "recommend." Everytime I told them that I wanted something done the told me this is the way it needs to be done. So basically I couldn't get what I wanted. The French tip part is sloppy. She didn't even use the right brush. The sale is inconsistent. The ladies them selves are nice. But if you can't do what I ask for then it's okay let me know I'll change the idea or I'll just go somewhere else. I left crying because I was excited for this idea and it just didn't happen for me. I had Mimi give me a pedicure, and Lisa gave me a manicure. Both women were pleasant and friendly. Mimi came out with a plastic-covered tub to soak my feet in lukewarm water. I wasn't expecting that. But I figured it was covered in plastic, so hygiene wasn't an issue. However, the instruments used weren't opened in front of me. As a nurse who worked with a podiatrist, Mark Wolpa, MD. A lot of women came to him for toe fungus. He always recommends that if going to a salon, to have the tools opened in front of you so that you know proper sanitation was performed. Yes, I should have left at that very moment. I took my chances, and this was my first time in the salon. What you do with this review is up to you. I am hoping that by leaving a review, the owners' practice will change. Mimi used the usual foot and callous scrubber quickly on my heels. I did notice, however, a customer next to me who was a returning customer; her calluses were being removed with a handheld electrical callous remover. I have calluses, and now that the pedicure was all done, I thought Why didn't I get that treatment as well? Cash and credit are accepted. One dollar charge for use of a credit card. read more

I have tried more than a few nail salons in Marin County and Vintage Nails is one of the best. Sandy makes you feel welcome always, and has a warm smile for the customers. Because so many nail salons seem to be more about quantity, the industry can be lacking in customer service. Not this salon - the people here are kind, thoughtful, and never make you feel like they're rushing you out the door. Christy did my nails and she was a true professional. Well... I came in here for a mani-pedi and the lady who did my pedicure was amazing. She was so sweet and gentle. However, the lady who did my nails was horrible. I decided to go with acrylic nails. She didn't even ask me what shape I wanted my nails. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and I told her I wanted everything the same as the picture. The shape wasn't the same. The picture I showed her was french tip nails with a flower. She didn't even give me french tips. It looks so sloppy, like a 10 year old did my nails. She made me pay beforehand. I've been going there for years, and stopped because of the pandemic. I was charged $55 for a gel fill upon returning, told the next time i'm in it would be $40, but when I didn't return for a few weeks I was charged $50. There was no extra time or work needed for the gel fill. I don't know of any business that does that. Many post their prices, but not Vintage Nail. They do a nice jobs I'll give them that, but to charge different prices based on the time you return seems pretty unfair. I won't be returning nor will some friends I've sent there. read more

Today I went for the first time in about 8 or so months and it was like I never left. The girls are friendly, they remember you and ask about your family. I got a full set at another spot which was also a nice experience but I broke a nail and happened to be near vintage nails. I walked in and they were able to take me. I've since broke 3 more LOL. They were able to get us reservations for the same day so that's a plus. The service was nothing stellar. I expected a really nice pedicure considering they were not super busy and it was my first time with my mom. One other customer's husband showed up so they moved my 87year old mother to an upright chair so one particular young lady could take care of him. My mother's pedicure was ok but not totally done and her back was not happy. They were saving the other chairs for other people. My feet were still soaking- otherwise I'd have gladly moved. The place seemed cozy enough but we'll never go back. My mom is not a complainer by nature so all she said about the experience was," let's never go back there". read more

By far one of the weirdest and terrible gel manicures I've ever gotten. I called on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at 5:45pm and they fit me into an appointment at 6pm. The woman on the phone was very nice and accommodating and I was in desperate need of a manicure. The gel I had previously was about 3 weeks grown out and one of my nails had broken and hand no polish on it at all. As you can imagine, I was just thankful to get an appointment. Traffic was horrendous and getting to my normal salon was virtually impossible. When I arrived the place was....lackluster. Nothing fancy or even remotely appealing but, in the same respect, I didn't come for the ambiance. I was seated quickly and began the removal process of the old gel. What was odd to me was how rough the technician was. Not a huge deal but thought it was weird. We were trucking along, and as you may recall I had one nail that had zero polish on it...like none... I thought it was kind of strange when she still put the acetone soak and foil on the bare nail. I wasn't super thrilled about that considering acetone is a natural poison, I figure the least amount of exposure the better, but still not a huge deal. The manicurist seemed...rushed. She took off the foil too soon and started chipping away at the old polish but because it hadn't soaked long enough parts were not coming off. They said my nail was "stained". I think she realized it wasn't stained and soaked it for a little longer. Afterward the old polish came right off. From that point she filed and cut down my nails. I asked that she not make them too rounded on the edges, which she did to the best of her ability (although they were still too round for my taste). After she had finished filing and clipping, she took the towel from under my hands that had all of the waste and just dumped it on the floor... strange. My nails had been soaking in water once the clipping was done. She put on the cuticle gel and started cleaning up my nail beds cutting away the excess skin and cuticles. She didn't wipe off the cuticle gel so when it started to dry it got really sticky like glue and her fingers were sticking to mine. When she had finally finished digging in my cuticles and underneath my nails she tried to wash off the cuticle gel with the old water that my nails were soaking in. When the gel wasn't washing off she had to go back and get a bowl of hot water and then proceeded to awkwardly wipe my hands for what seemed like 5 minutes. Her hands were so sticky still it freaked me out as she started to buff my nails with a buffer she got from a small box that read "Clean". The buffer did not look "clean" and I soon realized all the tools she was using had come out of said box. It took everything in me not to ask her to stop and run out of there. We got to the polish finally and as she painted on layer, after layer, after layer of polish, each time violently slamming the polish brush back into the bottle with every stroke, I realized, she didn't feel the 3 coats she had already applied were enough. After putting my hands under the UV light I took them out and there were ripples all over them and things that had gotten stuck to the nail that she didn't bother to remove before the next 3 coats. The only redeeming factor was that the top coat smoothed out the ripples and they were no longer visible. She didn't properly clean around the edges of my nails after painting so they dried with the paint uneven along the edges and looks similarly to when I do my own at home. By the time I was done I just wanted to leave. I paid my bill and needless to say will not be back. read more

This was a nice little salon when I was in Novato and not near my usual place. The women who work there are pretty friendly, although one commented how I, "bite my nails really short," and laughed. I got a gel manicure for $28 (I think). It's a pretty good job, but a couple nails have some overhang on the gel and is on my skin. Overall I felt it was a good experience, but I don't think I got the treatment I'm used to. I feel like I usually get a hand massage after the manicure, but it felt like she just wanted to rub the lotion in and be done with it. The salon seems clean enough, but definitely has seen some years. I would come back if I were in the area, but I can't vouch for many of their services. They all were looking at my nails before i left and I know that they knew how bad my nails looked but they didn't try to fix them. This was a place recommended to me, so I'm disappointed to write this review. I went in for a manicure/pedicure. Manicure was done well by Kristie but the pedicure was the worst. The nail technician cut cuticles on both big toes and then proceeded to dig her nails in to remove excess nail polish. It wasn't until the other technician stepped in and let her know not to continue. I don't like posting negative reviews, they were nice but I won't be coming back, my toes still hurt 4 days later. read more
