I really enjoyed eating at Top Restaurant! It's a shame that they only serve to-go and have such a long wait. Even though I was expecting around a 30-45 minute wait, it ended up being an hour or so on a Saturday night. The cashier was really kind, but unfortunately with how many person were on the phone and waiting in line in person, one person isn't enough to man the register and the phone. Every time I go to Hawaii I order my favorite meal the Loco Moco. Anytime I find a restaurant that offers it on the mainland- that's what I end up ordering. This place is literally a hole in the wall and they only offer take out. They could add a few small tables and chairs for indoor dining but that is not offered. After my order was placed I received my meal in less than 15 minutes. My mini Loco Moco order was more than enough food to fill me up and it was sizzling hot when I received it and I had to wait for it to cool down. We saw the raving reviews for this place and decided to check it out on a Tuesday night. Upon arrival, we noticed that the restaurant already had a line forming, so we definitely had high expectations coming in. I ordered the Kalua pork, while my sister and cousin got the loco moco and chicken katsu. Our orders didn't take long to be done and it was worth the wait!! The pork and beef were juicy while all the meals were flavorful. Make sure you use the sauce or it'll be bland for the katsu and pork. The best part was how affordable each dish was, given the portion size. The portions were filling and plentiful. The cashier, Miss Lily was super nice and accommodating. She noticed we were thirsty and would ask us if we wanted water/refills for the water. Also, there seemed to be a lot of regulars here. Walked in originally wanted some hawaiian grill and musubi, but another customer's order of crispy fried chicken look so good i just had to order that instead. I think the Indonesian cuisine they have is pretty good. The crispy fried chicken is crispy as the name said. A little bit fishy/gamey and slightly lacked depth, but the crisp is a delight. The spam musubi left nothing to desire over the hawaiian grill though. It tastes like just some rice and spam and a bit of soy sauce. Although that maybe the main ingredients of a musubi, but the version they had doesn't give the usual comfort of great musubis out there. The place is very busy even well over lunch hours, so they must be doing something right. Which unfortunately not the case for musubis. read more

By far the best Hawaiian food I've had in a while don't sleep on this place! Food: the food here is fresh & authentic with crazy cheap prices. Today I ordered the chicken katsu with bbq chicken plate along with a spam musubi. Chicken katsu is fresh & super crunchy, easily the best chicken katsu I've ever had. Bbq chicken was also just as good & very flavorful. Spam musubi was fire, I left here wishing I order more of these sooooo good!!! The seaweed on the musubi is so fresh & crispy & they put a sweet sauce in it (I think teriyaki) that just pulls it all together. Overall, the food is here great, looking forward to trying the other dishes! Location is easy to find with plenty of parking. This place gets pretty busy but the food comes out fast. We have been going here for years, the lady in front is super friendly. If you order takeout by phone she will save the number and name on the order. So then each time you call in for a repeat order she will say "hello (name)". Super clever, because this started right after our second or third order. Its a small store, so there is not really a lot of seating in general stiicking with takeout makes more sense. We always look forward to the fried chicken, the breading is crispy and stays that way for a long time. I dont think I have ever had leftovers that became soggy. The portion was decent sized overall but I'm not sure if it's because my expectations were high from reading the reviews but the quality was disappointing. My friend who is Indonesian said both fried dishes lacked spices and they just doused it in oyster sauce to cover it up. I was really excited about the short rib from the bbq mix plate but that was extremely underwhelming. It was a really small piece and really dry. Came here after the feature article in LA Eater. For this visit I only ordered their Indonesian food, will try Hawaiian food next time. They are very generous with their food, and although I didn't call ahead to order, I think it only took 10 minutes to make 4 orders. Their famous fried chicken had a light crispy batter. My Southeast Asian friend mentioned the fried chicken tasted exactly as how they remembered fried chicken tasted like as a child. Chicken was extremely moist and flavorful. They make a limited amount per day so I guess I got lucky when I dropped by around 3:30pm. Indonesian fried rice and rice noodle with shrimp were both really good with the shrimp being fresh and on the larger side. Highly recommend the red curry beef (rendang) with egg. Beef was extremely soft and melts in your mouth. Very addicting with rice. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. They are in a strip mall at the corner of Allen and Colorado with a decent size parking lot. No issues finding space. The meat is thick and the breading cuts super easily. It is amazing. The kalau pork is great. All the portion sizes are huge with two scoops of rice and Mac salad. We had tons of leftovers. There is a parking lot with free parking. There's no seating inside. It's a takeout place. So you place your order and leave. You can call your orders ahead of time. I've been wanting to try this place forever. Delicious kalua pork plate, with a solid Mac salad. Their Indonesian Fried Rice is delicious. I highly recommend it. It is slightly sweet in comparison to other fried rices I've had. Comes with a nice fried egg on the top. Ordered a spam musubi as well. It's a good balance of rice and spam. I ordered takeout by calling in. It did take 3 times calling in around 1130am to place a order. I almost gave up and planned to drive over and order in person. Luckily the owner called me back and I was able to place my order over the phone. I ordered the chicken katsu regular plate and one spam musubi and one bbq chicken musubi. It was ready in 15 minutes as she stated on the phone and the total was $16.50 (before tip). The chicken katsu was the perfect ratio of breading and chicken. You can see the chicken and the thin breading. Although it was thin, it was still very crunchy. The regular box comes with three pieces cut in strips with cabbage under it. On the side it has 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. The Mac salad was also tasty, it wasn't like the ones you get at the deli thank goodness. It wasn't covered in Mayo and you can tell it's freshly made. The katsu sauce was different in a good way. It was more liquid like more it had all the flavors that you would expect from the sauce. Other places, the katsu sauce is thick and heavy. This katsu sauce was light and easy for dipping. The spam musubi was okay.. at $2.49 for each piece, it probably wasn't worth it. I felt like there wasn't enough sauce on it but at least it was tightly wrapped and it didn't fall apart. The bbq chicken musubi was so good! Although it fell apart while I was eating it, the chicken piece was huge and I'd recommend this musubi if you were to choose just one. Stop by if you're in pasadena to a local owned Hawaiian/ Indonesian spot! I was gifted a certificate to here so had to try it out. I honestly still prefer Ono's because the sauces there really make the meal for me. But I would come back just for their fried chicken! They do give you more portion wise here and the food overall is good. The chicken katsu is thicker cut (not just breading compared to L&L & Ono's) and you can sub their Mac salad for free instead of rice. The cabbage underneath the meats was more like shredded cabbage pieces. The crab Rangoons were fully stuffed and yummy. I didn't eat the masubi but my fiancé didn't have any complaints. The real winner was the fried chicken- I believe 6 pieces for 9.99. Their special sauce was great. They do charge 25 cents for extra sauce each. If this is the object of your quest when visiting Top Restaurant it is important to be aware of the fact that there is a limit on the total number of orders that are available each day for this delectable goodie, hence our early arrival today. We also ordered the Katsu. The chicken was spectacular with a wonderful flaky shell accenting a well spiced, slightly honey sweet, garlicky, and soy sauce combination of tastes. In a restaurant universe where fried chicken is now available everywhere this is among the best out there by far. So good! The katsu was equally well prepared and quite tasty.
