With a 4-5 man crew, I was amazed at how fast and efficiently they were able to work. After an almost 2-hour move out (stairs and a stoop) they moved my stuff into my new apartment in 1 hour! Working with Robert always includes personal attention to your concerns, needs and special items. And he's always thorough with close attention to detail. And the crew is friendly and just cool to work with. Robert and his team were amazing. I had to hire them twice within two weeks. The first move was from 4 floor walkup into storage, and the second was from storage into my apartment. We had a lot of boxes/furniture and last minute changes where we couldn't move into our place right away per original plan. I don't have enough positive things to say about Robert and his team. I moved within Manhattan, out of a 6th floor apt elevator building into a 5th floor walk-up. It was my first 'real move' so I was pretty anxious, but Robert made the whole process amazingly easy. From the beginning, he was responsive, courteous, and pleasant to work with. He answered all of my questions and was transparent at every step of the process. On the day of, he and his team were right on time - even a little early! They had the whole move done in 3.5 hours flat, with everything perfectly moved and nothing damaged. I don't remember how we found THM back in 2010 when they moved us into our first apartment, but when it came time to move again this year into our new space a few miles away in Brooklyn, we knew who to call. Robert came by ahead of time to evaluate our apt, drop off some bins for us to pack in, and scheduled six movers. They showed up ahead of time and got right to work. In little more than 4 hours, they completely moved everything out of our fourth-floor walk up apartment into the truck, drove, and unloaded everything (without damage to the building or materials) into our new apartment. Robert was very responsive and thorough in making sure he'd gathered all the relevant details before the move. As someone who is cautious to a fault, I am generally a bit paranoid and high intensity when it comes hiring (and trusting) strangers with my belongings. After getting several quotes from different movers in Brooklyn, I found Top Hat Movers on Yelp. Wanting to know a little more, I accepted Robert's invitation to come to my apartment to scope out my belongings for my move from Park Slope to Brooklyn Heights. To say that Robert is a character would be a wild understatement, but he is enthusiastic and sincere if nothing else. We chatted for a while, and he put me at ease, and I decided to cancel my quote with another company and take the Top Hat plunge. As many other reviewers have said, Robert reached out the day before and the day of to make sure things were going smoothly. Juan, his foreman, arrived with his crew the morning of my move, and handled everything perfectly. Robert and his team are truly professionals that help ease the stress of moving. We moved from Brooklyn to SoCal in the week between Xmas and New Year's and hired Top Hat Movers to help load our stuff into the truck my husband rented (my husband also drove our stuff cross country because we wanted to avoid the extreme pain and hassle of cross-country movers). Robert came to look at our place and our storage unit to give us the estimate. He also provided advice on how to pack our things to best protect things for a long distance move since we were doing our own packing. In addition, based on his assessment of the volume of things that needed to be moved, he advised us to get a 22-foot truck instead of a 26-foot or 16-foot one. His estimate was spot on, the 22-foot truck fit all of our stuff and we had a little extra room to bring things that we weren't sure would fit. Robert's team came a few days in advance to wrap all the furniture and wall hangings that we didn't need before move day so that the actual move would go more quickly and smoothly. And they came a few days later to actually load everything in the truck. I couldn't be happier with how things turned out, nothing was dropped or scratched or broken in loading or in the almost 3,000 mile drive. Throughout the process Robert was completely transparent about the pricing and how much he thought the job would cost. I wouldn't hesitate to strongly recommend Top Hat Movers to anyone who needs movers, either for end-to-end in-town or to help load or unload a truck. We had a fantastic experience with Robert and his team. They moved us from a 4th floor walk-up to a garden apartment about 13 blocks away in 2 and a half hours. Our start time was 8:30am and at 8:28am our bell was rung. The movers were extremely efficient, careful and checked in with us when they had questions. They wrapped everything with shrink wrap and reinforced the corners of furniture with tape. Robert emailed a lot of the paperwork ahead of time including the rates, suggested gratuities, policy options on IKEA particle board etc. I really appreciated this because when moving day came it felt like a whirlwind, but we felt that we were in good hands with Top Hat. Robert even stopped by a week before to look at the job ahead, scope out the parking/width of the street etc. He was also a big joker! First of all, I would like to thank the other Yelp reviewers for everything mentioned in their feedback about Top Hat. I found them on Yelp, and based on all the great reviews, decided to give them a shot. Everything said was incredibly accurate, and now I'll tell you a little bit about my experience. I called Robert hoping to gather a little information on what's involved when you use a moving company, costs, times, etc..., as I had never used one before. He took the time right then to break down all the details for me, which I was really appreciative of. He also let me know up front that the balance due is typically paid in cash, and the suggested tipping policy is $10/man/hour. This was all foreign to me so I had no idea if that was low or high, but we rolled with it (later deemed to be 1000% worth it). I put the down payment on my credit card and hoped for the best. The day before the move he sent me an email just confirming, and giving me some contact information on who would be arriving the next morning in the truck. I called Andre, the foreman, the next morning and he gave me a full update on who should be arriving when and how soon he'd be there with the truck. The guys were extremely friendly and professional. They did a fantastic job moving efficiently and carefully, and they checked with me on if I wanted any particular things wrapped or if there were very fragile items anywhere. All in all to move 2 bedrooms and a kitchen they moved extremely quickly - 3 hours door to door. I should mention I was moving into a 6 floor walk up, and now you see why I hired movers. They asked me where I wanted things, how I wanted it set up, if I wanted anything shifted, and if I liked where everything was. I really can't stress enough how great the team was, certainly worth every penny spent. I pray that I won't have to move again for quite some time because it's such a royal pain in the ass. Easily our best moving experience to date. We moved cross country. Top Hat met us at our pod facility, loaded up the truck, and then hauled our stuff up a fourth floor walk up. They were professional, friendly, and fast. Also their rate was quite reasonable, if not a downright bargain -- and Robert was very clear about the rate and tip amount upfront, which was very appreciated. I had a great experience with Top Hat Movers. They were recommended to me by a colleague. Pros: - They over-communicate which is nice. I had a number of emails and conversations with Robert leading up to the move. So I knew exactly what to expect on moving day. There were no surprises. - Punctual. They said they would arrive at 8am and at 7:55am the truck was in place and they were ready to get moving - Fast. These guys busted their butts loading and unloading the truck - Quality. Everything arrived in one piece. Cons: I hate paying for movers. I've always moved myself in the past. I am wayyyy late to this review and sorry for that to the guys! I moved from bedstuy to Greenpoint on April 1 out of 3rd floor and into a complicated 3rd floor. Robert was amazing! Super personable and funny, doesn't wear out his guys or overbook them so you're getting Everyone at their best. Heads up I have an insane amount of furniture and stuff, much of it very heavy. He scheduled a generous number of movers--7 I think? Plus himself driving. They finished my entire move (drive included) in four hours. Incredible. Everyone in high spirits and chill. We prepared heavily in advance and packed really efficiently. He did some FaceTime with me ahead of the move to tour my space and try and appropriately quote me. We hit it right on the head maybe a little less. It was also extremely reasonable considering what I had. My boyfriend moved from within blocks of the new place also in Greenpoint (out of a first floor and into a third floor with wayyy less stuff) and was charged almost $1000 more and his move took ages. His movers got into fights with the neighbors it was like night and day. Overall I can see why top hat has all repeat customers! Super fun and casual to work with. Top Hat Movers were great! I initially called a couple moving companies that had good reviews from Yelpers, but settled on Top Hat after talking with Robert on the phone. Working with them was worth every penny, and definitely great value for your money! Robert was very informative, very thorough, sincere, and translucent (he didn't hide any information or fees, etc). Quite a talker, but that's besides the point. He was in constant communication with me and even gave me some more questions that I should ask the other moving companies to help me make my final decision. I called with only a couple days in advance, and Robert worked with me to find a time slot that worked for me and his men. Unfortunately President Obama decided to visit Crown Heights the day I was supposed to move, so Robert rearranged his men's schedules to start at 7AM to avoid any traffic and make sure I didn't have to pay for any time sitting in traffic. The movers were right on time; very fast, efficient, and handled all of my things with care. While I had already separated my stuff by boxes, bins, pictures, electronics, etc., the main mover and the others were really good at packing the truck so that nothing broke or got damaged. They also helped me wrap up the electronics and lamps that I didn't have the materials for, and they provided bubble wrap, moving blankets and tape free of charge! This is the third time I've moved in five years, and always my least favorite part is dealing with movers. There always seems to be a surprise fee before they unload your stuff, and something always gets destroyed. With Top Hat, it was the complete opposite. I was calling around for help unloading a truck at the end of a last-minute, out-of-town move at the end of September. The fact that it was a weekend at the end of the month meant it was almost impossible to find movers. When I called Top Hat Movers, Robert spent all afternoon trying to move jobs around to help me find a time. We ended up going with another company who could better meet our moving schedule (we had an early morning move), but the sheer amount of effort Robert put in to help us out earns them points in my book. Top Hat Movers are awesome! We recently moved from an upstairs apartment to the downstairs apartment within the same Park Slope townhouse. While this seemed like an easy move, Top Hat's crew treated it like we were moving to another state. Our belongings were carried downstairs with the utmost care. Furniture was wrapped, electronics were padded and protected, etc. The best part was that Top Hat provided us with big plastic bins to move our things so that we didn't have to assemble and disassemble a ton of boxes for our move. Robert couldn't have been more helpful. I emailed him many times throughout the process and my correspondence was always met with a fast reply. The three hours we were quoted for the move ended up being more like 2 1/2 hours. The crew that he sent were awesome. They were great, funny guys and totally respectful of our needs. I had a complete bedroom set, completed living room set and 15 boxes. It helped that i packaged all my things and broke down my bed. We're still unpacking but we hired Top Hat movers to take our apartment box by box and to our new place (this morning). Its been a great experience in what is otherwise always a stressful event. Andre and crew were friendly and got right down to business. We were self-packed (mostly) and they took care of the TV and a few picture frames that I hadn't got to. I just finished moving -- ahead of schedule -- with the crew at Top Hat Movers (718-622-0377). I really could not believe the kindness, integrity, professionalism, and "no problem" attitude of Robert, John, Ron, Tim, and Alex. I needed them to go to three different basement storage rooms and climb broken stairs (they formed an assembly line and handed everything up!) Before using Top Hat, I flirted with hiring one of the "man with van" deals recommended to me, but the "man with van" was slimy, continually upping the price. My BS alert went off. Then he asked me to pay $150 an HOUR for a bigger truck! Jeez! I could've rented my own for $39.99 for the day! I thought I might be better off with a licensed, insured mover, so I went on Yelp and looked them up with the Better Business Bureau. To make a long story short, Top Hat showed up exactly on time, moved swiftly (and carefully), and got everything waaay uptown safe and sound. The price was based on hours worked, and was really reasonable, considering they're real D.O.T. regulated movers. They seem to be very shy about marketing themselves and "tooting their own horn." We were moving from Chicago and needed a mover to unload our rental truck. Robert, the owner, made the sign up process very easy and we made our deposit through Venmo. Unfortunately, we were delayed leaving Chicago and it looked like we wouldn't make it to Brooklyn for the scheduled unloading. We called Robert the evening before and he was incredibly flexible in accommodating our delay. Once we arrived, his team of movers was right on it and they were great. Robert and the crew at Top Hat Movers were just fantastic. I moved back in July and though I was pretty well packed ahead of time, there were a few things left to be packed up, which the foreman John and his guys were totally prepared for -- this included wrapping up a mattress and helping take apart and pack my various electronics -- all arrived safely and in order. I was moving from a one bedroom apartment that was pretty full to a place about a mile away, and we started at 8:30 on a Saturday and they had done all they could do for me by 11:30 a.m. These movers are careful, good communicators and follow instructions to a T in terms of placement of boxes/items in your new place. They know the greater Park Slope area and they know brownstones; city-certified for sure. Bonuses were Robert had plastic bins for me to rent which saved on buying or scavenging boxes, and he also recommended a furniture service that was able to disassemble a large leather couch and then reassemble after a trip though a narrow brownstone hallway and up a narrow, steep duplex staircase. Prices are very reasonable, and I was soooo happy with the help -- I will not hesitate to use Top Hat Movers again and will recommend them to anyone I can. read more

I decided to hire Robert and his crew based solely on Yelp reviews and I am so glad that I did. From our first conversation on, Robert was incredibly responsive and friendly; he explained everything thoroughly; his pricing was more than fair. Over the next several weeks, he checked in with me to confirm and was just generally a pleasure to work with. On the day of the move, Robert's crew of three were prompt, friendly, professional, and most importantly, very careful. They took time and care to talk to me, and to each other, about where furniture would go before moving it--this was particularly important since it was an in-house move. They managed to fit all of my kitchen/living room furniture into my bedrooms (so that the floors could be re-done) while still allowing us access to the bedrooms, no small feat. They took great care not to damage any of our belongings or our walls. As New Yorkers, we have just come to accept that all of our service providers are going to do a rushed, shitty job; that we will pay too much and get too little; and that we will have to fight with whomever we hire just to get the job done competently.
