This place is usually pretty good. Today, not the case. Likely the worse pizza I ever had. Got 2 pizzas. Both were burnt, greasy and tasted like cardboard with cheese melted on tip. I know things are not good all the time but now to check your food before you leave, they no longer give credits. Well, difficult to do when you have been in line for 20 minutes and other people waiting. So beware! Tony's Pizza serves an excellent slice of authentic NY, large-slice style pizza that is, at least in my opinion, the best pizza you're going to get in Hickory. The prices are very reasonable for a slice and especially for a whole pie, and if you're going to go, I would definitely stick to the pizza menu. That being said, I've been known to spring for a sandwich at Tony's here and there, as the chicken parmigiana and meatball parmigiana are absolutely amazing. My only gripe with the sandwiches is that they've gotten pretty expensive in recent years for their size, especially to not include a drink or side item. The pasta dishes (such as the baked ziti) are also very good, but on the pricier side for what I would expect from a pseudo-NYC pizza counter. All that to say that Tony's Pizza is a solid pizza joint at a reasonable price point that reminds me of being back in NYC and for that, I have to salute it. read more

We have ordered pizza twice from this restaurant. The first time they left off ingredients. I called and they offered to refund me the price of the missing ingredients and they acted like they literally could have cared less. We never received the refund but never called them due to it being a small amount. We decided to try an order with them again and ordered the exact same thing through Door Dash. The pizzas came completely smashed and the salads had leaked all over the bag and was torn in numerous places. The pizzas are packed in an extremely thin white boxes that literally can't hold the weight. We were also missing the exact same ingredients. I called the restaurant and talked to Juan. I was told there was no manager working. Juan said the problem was with Door Dash and I needed to call them. I told him about the missing ingredients on the pizza and he said there was nothing he could do. He said to call back and talk to the manager Robert. This was a double fail with Tony's Pizza and Door Dash. Horrible Customer Service at Tony's. I can't believe they messed up the pizza twice in a row and literally didn't care. No explanation, no apologies, just a long wait, even after checking a second time at the counter. If I could give you just half a star I would. My partner and I went there for lunch. We placed a very simple order of 2 slices of pizza and a grilled chicken sandwich. We sat there for over 45 minutes waiting while the chef was busy fooling around with the rest of the staff. We were order #51; we sat there hearing every other number and even other #'s of customers who came in AFTER us. After the pizza chef was done flicking pepperoni at the grill cook he asks us what # we are. We responded 51--he responds oh just another couple of minutes. I then see him go over to the grill person telling him to grill my sandwich. We get our food with just a simple sorry for the wait and thats it. Great food---piss poor customer service. The least the manager/pizza chef could have done was comp/refund our meal; offer us an appetizer or something. Sadly disappointed in Tony's pizza. Food was pretty good especially for the area but I greatly wish I had picked it up to go rather than dining in. Employees or management did nothing to remedy a dining room wide disturbance from a couple with a toddler that assumed just because they were okay with it screaming out ear piercing yelps in a dining room that echoed e dry one else was okay with that. When my child was small and all of my friends and family I associate with have small children that remotely disturb the table or other guests we always removed the child from the situation because it was OUR child, OUR problem!!! Okay I know management can't control a toddler BUT they can ask that they try to keep the child quiet or calm when it was obviously disturbing ALL other patrons in the dining room and even standing in line waiting to order. Luckily I was on my way out grabbing a refill for the road when I was allotted one more ear piercing Yelp from across the dining room the older couple standing next to me looked at the table with the toddler and looked at each other and the wife said "tell him to make ours to go!" That is how disturbing this child's behavior was that it essentially drove customers out of the dining room when that is occurring it is the establishments obligation to their patrons to at least try and remedy the situation as best as possible. And yes dear readers it is true if one parent wasn't talking on the phone during this debacle the other was texting or whatever each in their own little world yet it was the responsibility of the patrons to suck it up and endure a toddler having an over half hour fit that went unattended by both parents and a managing figure who could have politely asked them to manage their child for the sake of other patrons. read more

Monster Stromboli on the loose! The authentic Italian restaurant has all the eatery standards; pizza, subs, wings, etc. my daughter and I stopped in and ordered a Greek salad and Stromboli. The salad was fresh and tasty. A nice portion to share. Our main course came to the table and we were amazed at the size. I had to get a portion packed for later. Cheesy, flavorful and satisfying. Ordered online at 4:15 for a 5:30 pick up. Got there, my cheese stix were coming up out of the fryer and put into a bag. They set on the counter while I waited 15 minutes on my pizza. Cheese stix were cold. Pizza crust was tough and although I had ordered riccotta on the pizza I was expecting small drops of riccotta thru out the pizza, not the thick mushy line from a squeeze tube all over the pizza. It was so good. The pizza was excellent and my salad was terrific. Pizza slices are huge. They have nice little boxes to go. Took a little long but I imagine it was because of the size so big. If you're looking for a pizza that's pretty big, don't go to Papa Johns, or Dominos. Tony's Pizza is a great place to get the gigantic pizza on the slice for $3.00 for cheese plus 50 cents per topping. You wouldn't believe how big the pizza on the slice is, it's like the size of a 24" pizza. They also have a gluten free option. I've tried it before, and it's not the greatest gluten free pizza in the world. Their hot wings are pretty good. Sanitation Rating 97.5. Try this place if you're new to the Carolina's. When we are going out for pizza, no one asks "where are we going" because Tony's is the only place worth going to. My husband and sons usually get one of their HUGE pizzas to share and I either get one of their scrumptious salads or Stromboli (both are big enough for 2 meals). The staff is very helpful and extremely friendly, more than willing to recommend something if you can't make up your mind.
