I was looking for clean, great tasting food during my short stay in Hickory and after two ok and one disgusting meal, Plant Based Boss provided exactly what I was seeking. The ambience was very inviting and pleasant with calming Reggae grooves playing in the background. Justice as the other individual working were extremely attentive and friendly. I ordered the flavor exploding, mouthwatering, BBQ sandwich with Macaroni salad and was most satisfied with both. I will definitely return if ever in Hickory again. Me, my wife, and baby stopped by for lunch today and were blown away by the food! it was so great and every menu item we had was better than the last! I ordered the Olmec Bowl which was a very tasty rice bowl with the Hawaiian "bbq spare ribs" "meat" option. , included beans, Cotija, Avocado, cilantro, crema, and spicy salsa macha. I have been wanting to go to Plant Based Boss for a while & I finally made it by tonight. It is such a cute space with the perfect photo op (see pictures). The owner was lovely & assured us that they serve all plant based dishes, so don't be confused by the "meat" listed on the menu! My friend & I ordered the Chik'un tacos & Ground Beef tacos & we devoured them. We also split the Pink Panther smoothie & we should have gotten our own, it was delicious. Found a gem while visiting Hickory NC! I'd been craving a good ham sandwich since my visit to Miami this past summer and they did not disappoint with the Goin' Ham Sandwich. Stacked with just the right amount of protein, simple yet super filling. Ashley the owner suggested I go with Swiss cheese since it's not commonly found on vegan menus. Man she was right. Their macaroni salad was nothing extravagant but again just right! The tacos were delicious, we had one of each protein to get a good taste and were blown away with texture and flavor. Only downside is we like spice and since they were just getting situated at their new location there was not a good salsa.Ashley tried to accommodate us with some jalapeños cause she's just awesome but tacos just need a salsa in my book. Gluten-free was a perk on all the "taco meats" We also came back and bought a pound of each the "chicken" which we used to make some chicken in salsa verde Tamales.. totally recommend this hidden gem. Parking is in downtown hickory so it can be a pain but we found a free parking garage just a 2 minute walk from there. read more

The food is fantastic - my meat-eating friend could not believe her sandwich was not "real" chicken. I can't say enough good about this restaurant! I've had the basil chicken (or as I call it brave, why? because it's not chicken ha ha ha), the minimalist burger, and the amazing Cajun pasta dish! First, I am not a vegetarian but good food is good food. I have gone multiple times and the staff is always pleasant. They can definatley be busy at times but worth the wait. Today was my second visit to Plant Based Boss and I will sure go back with more family and friends. Pleasant environment, nicely decorated, good food, the owner I believe was the one serving us. She was friendly and helpful both times. First time I had the lasagna and today a "chicken" wrap, my husband had the BBQ "chicken" sandwich, and my daughter had tacos. And we also got some of the cookies they are selling to raise funds to help a family friend who had an accident and is in serious conditions at the hospital, maybe paralyzed for life. Very noble of them. All food was delicious. And she assured us it is all plant based. Hurray for the cook, he/she is a keeper! About prices, well not cheap, but I guess it lines up with others like them, don't think they are above other vegan places. I hope they came to stay. I will definitely go back. One more thing, I called before because the times on the website were different than I remembered her telling us. After 4 rings I figured they were still closed and hung up. In a few seconds she called back apologizing for missing the call. They were still closed but answered the phone anyway. Showed me she cares for her customers.
