I was asked to donate food for a birthday celebration at work. I decided on " Tony's " because of the reviews and because of a couple visits I had a few years ago. I ordered the #1 package which included 2 pounds of beef, a quart of gravy, and sweet and hot peppers. I upgraded to 3 pounds of beef with the insistence of the order taker, however I was told they didn't have any bread. I should have found another place after that information but I continued on.I picked up my bread from Pete's and traveled a short distance to "Tony's " Friday night, raining and only a few customers. When I retrieve my order the beef was in a plastic bag, cold from a fridge I hope, along with the other condiments. Price$54.00 . Once at work I warmed up the gravy and beef separately. I of course tasted the beef which was close to bland but the gravy had good flavor, spicy, rich, different from other locations. The homemade giardiniera was fresh but lack some umami. I was disappointed with my order, the beef, the price, and no bread. Next time I'll stick to Buona or Portillo. read more

Pricing was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful. They took the time to walk me through the menu and even made suggestions. I ordered 2 single fish sandwiches , kids chicken gyro, Greek salad with chicken and chicken tenders. Everything was good except salad. I was expecting more for a Greek salad. It had one chicken tender on top and no olives which are pretty standard on a Greek salad. But everything else was hot fresh and absolutely delicious. Definitely will be back soon. read more

While in the area visiting a supplier from out of state I searched for some good ol' local beef sandwich shops and I came across Tony's Italian Beef ! It's a small family owned dive spot that does not disappoint. I came in and though it's a cozy-spot with limited seating, it's worth the visit . Rear parking available ! They have an extensive menu on the walls, but that's what gives it character. The gentleman and lady taking the orders were kind. I asked her it was my first time here and she explained what the beef sandwich came with . There Giardiniera peppers were yummy. So here it goes....the moment of truth ! I took some pics to show case this delish lunch meal I had. I added mayonnaise and easy on the peppers n onions. Next time - full on the peppers n onions. The meat was thinly sliced and had great flavor . One bite and I was in awe of the flavor ! Tony, the owners son who runs the business greeted me and I knew he was curious as to why the photos . He was kind and I gave him my business card. I just simply heard of how good this local spot was and it was worth the trip! Tony's been around since 1975 so I figured it would be good. The portion sizes are what I call American size, very large. The beef could have been seasoned better or longer. The sausage was good. The sandwich was dipped without asking. That's a big one. Soggy or not makes a difference. The restaurant is small and I did take out. there's counters for you to eat in. read more

Ordered a combo w/ hot peppers and fries after dropping off friends at midway. Fries were hot and delicious. Excellent spices. The combo was also very good. I flew into Midway, and was really hungry, as, by my body clock, it was somewhere between lunch and dinner. I was also in the mood for something meaty,so I headed to Tony's, which seems to be a favorite for the classic Chicago Italian beef sandwich. The ambiance is quite basic, and the food was served incredibly fast, so the focus is definitely on the food. Not unfriendly, but not going out of their way either. They were generous with the meat juice, so the sandwich was definitely messy, and bursting with flavor. Topped with the spicy peppers it hit the spot. And it was filling. Doesn't travel well, recommend eating at the counter if there's space or potentially in the car if you're willing to risk the mess Bread was soggy from the au jue, would be helpful if the bread was toasted. They have a slogan something about "when's the last time you had a really great sandwich". Well I assure you if you come here you won't be having one . Not even a kinda ok one. They slap a poorly seasoned chicken breast on the grill and cook it until it's dry. Then they slap it on a piece of bread with some shredded ice burg lettuce and a slice of cheese and call it a famous sandwich. There's nothing famous about, and there's no effort put into it, do yourself a favor and eat at home or somewhere else, this place is not it. If 'Mid' was a sandwich this would be it. read more

We were in Chicago for just a few hours and looking for an Italian Beef sandwich near Midway. Tony's did not disappoint! I had the Jr Beef and Sausage Combo, Michael ordered the. Sicilian. The Jr size was perfect, the beef was tasty and the giardiniera was homemade and quite tasty. The Sicilian beef was also delicious. This is not a 'sit down' establishment but there are a couple of counters with stools. Be prepared to sit elbow-to-elbow with your new best friends and avoid wearing white or bring a bib - these sandwiches are both tasty and messy! read more

I live in the 'hood yet never had Tony's. Well, that's no longer true. Ordered through Door Dash. The fries were excellent - still crispy with just the right amount of salt. With ketchup, they were wonderful. I ordered the Italian beef/sausage combo, heavily dipped with red sauce on the side. Unfortunately, I didn't get the green peppers as advertised. Everything was superb, and I was able to make three meals from the one sandwich. I really enjoyed the meal and intend to be a regular customer. Maybe as a transplant I don't know Italian beef well enough, but I found my Italian beef here to be less flavorful than other places I've been to. It could very well be that it was less fatty than other ones I'm used to? I'm not sure, but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. Still great - don't get me wrong. I've been to Chicago many times and yet...I've never tried an Italian beef sandwich before. Gasp! Shocking, I know. We recently traveled to Indiana for a worthless wedding. Flew into Chicago (for better scenery) then drove to Ind. Lucky for us, the Midway airport was a short drive to Tony's. Located on the Southside of Chicago, Tony's has been around since 1975, so you know you can trust them to hook you up with juicy beef on a fluffy, chewy roll, topped up with spicy, tangy giardiniera peppers. I got my sandwich dipped and the peppers on the side. There are many menu options (breakfast included). The restaurant is small, so don't expect to sit down. Counter tops are clean and the service is quick. Parking is located on the side of the building. My sandwich was delicious and filling. The peppers were a perfect addition. I also ordered breakfast for my toddler. Side order of 2 Pancakes, and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns weren't the best, however the pancakes were delicious. Just a heads up the pancakes are HUGE! My daughter ate both pancakes, no crumbs leftover. I look forward to trying The Corleone next time we visit. read more

I mean I've always wanted to try Chicago's Italian Beef. Growing up in LA, Phillippe's was a pre-Dodgers game ritual. In Philadelphia, I once triple ate at Jim's cheesesteak on South St and Gino's and then Pat's. This Italian Beef run during a 4.25hr layover at Midway was everything I needed and then some. PSA: If flying with a full stomach makes you uncomfortable, pls disregard this entire review. In short: (1) The Big Beef & Sausage combo with hot peppers, provolone, and dipped, was large enough to feed 2.25 human beings. The Italian Beef was tender, sausage smoked and cooked to perfection, jous was not too heavy or greasy, and the hot peppers on top gave enough of a kick in terms of flavor without burning your mouth. (2) I had a bite of the Big Beef-only sandwich actually preferred that over the Big beef and sausage combo. Why such blasphemy one might ask? For me it was texture. Thin sliced beef was soft and tender while sausage had a bite and pull to it. I preferred a mouthful of thinly sliced beef on a soggy Italian bread dunked in jous. (3) A small order of fries is all you need. (4) Staff. Lovely. Sandwich came out super fast and they were a group of awesome people. In conclusion, if you have a layover long enough to leave the airport, Tony's is only 2.1 miles from Southwest terminal. It's worth every Penny of the $11 Lyft ride! read more

I tried this place because I was in the area and had decent reviews. I ordered grilled chicken sandwich, Italian beef and a side chicken salad. The sandwich was just okay not really flavorful. The side salad could have used more cheese but the dressing was nice. The Italian beef was just meh. They had a lot of orders coming in so I thought that was a good sign.
