I was in the area for a workshop and it was my dinner time, and I just happened to see this place as I approached Ashland on 79th Street. I thought, why not? It's on a corner lot, and it has a parking lot right in front. Giving my order was easy, and for what I ordered - a gyro with fries and a drink - the price was right. There is ample seating for such a small place, and everything is clean (even the bathrooms, as I later discovered). The food was ready in a few minutes, and I have to say it was a really good gyro. The meat was roasted to a bit of a crisp in places, and the bread and sauce were just right. The fries were good, too. It looks like a place where most people carry out, but I felt very comfortable dining right there in the early evening. Over all not bad for a fast food restaurant, under $11 for a gyro and extra sauce and fries. The Gyro was a bit on the greasy side for my taste, a bit dry. The pita was nice and soft, and nice amount of tzatziki sauce. I always ask for extra since I like to dip my gyro meat. I had a referral to try Nick's gyros to on 79th and Ashland. So I went there ordered a large catfish at $16 ticket number 205. When I arrived home of course after texting I found out this was not catfish, and as a catfish lover I know the difference in the taste flavor of my fish. This was a cousin of, the catfish called Basa or swai fish. in which this fish has no flavor but it cuts in fillets like catfish. I contact Nicks #2 to inform them that the fish was not what I wanted to pay for because it was not catfish. The clerk said, well I will replace the order or refund you the money at a later time convenient to you. I agree but was contacted 10 minutes later to be asked to bring the fish back to the restaurant. I informed the clerk one I'm in the suburbs and I'm not returning to the city soon. She then asked me.to bring it at a later date. I informed her that I will not be holding on to fish until I return to the city to be compensated and that request was ridiculous. So if you like Swai fish I think Nicks gyros #2 will be a your place to go. I just you're not paying for Catfish that is.! read more

I've been eating here since 2000 and the food is good...but the prices are way too high now and the size portion has decreased $11 for a chicken sandwich meal is ridiculous. I got a super assorted sub and it was like the size of a foot long or smaller for $10.50 the sandwich use to be way bigger a gyro with fries for $10.50 and it's super small I'm not sure if I'll be going back they are just getting over on people with the prices the food it's worth the cost. read more

Went there yesterday for a Italian beef. OMG! Not good Quality at all. 1st off It's packed with people off the street asking for spare change. It's makes you really uncomfortable to pull out your money to pay for your food when you have people on the side looking. The Italian beef was horrible but the fries were really good. Nick's offers a cheeseburger and fries special for$5, wehich is great, except the place by my apartment offers two burgers for the same price. Neverthesless I tried out Nick's as I was god-awful hungry, it was snowy, and had hours upon hours of high school basketball scouting ahead, so I needed something quick, filling and apparrently Greek. Thats a perk about this place, if you're going to get greek food you'd probably want someone greek to make it, right? Not like the chinese woman who makes the tacos around my neighborhood, but we're not here for here, we're here for Nick's. At the counter greeting you is a well built man full of hair and accent and chest hair...very greek. The place is clean and bigger than it looks. Even more they offer quite a menu and it didnt take that long to get my order, which was a giant turkey sub warm done just the way i liked it. i also had a slice of sausage pizza because it looked amazingly delicious ...and it was. Nick's also offers many types of drinks in many sizes, including a liter of lemonade...a fav of mine!
