Meatloaf with mashed potatoes
John M.

This is our first time visiting Tony's Diner, though we have passed it many times since moving to Bloomington last month. We were very happy that we did. I had the Cod Sandwich with Fries And my wife chose the Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes. Both were delicious. Our server provided a great experience she was both friendly and very efficient.

Meat lovers skillet with toast

First time dining here based on a recommendation by a friend. They're a very popular place because the parking lot was very full. Quite busy inside, but we were seated quickly. Our server was very nice and took our orders; I ordered the meat lovers skillet while my partner ordered the Hawaiian omelette with hash browns. We both got the toast with our meals. These dining area was nice and spacious and clean. Our food arrived quickly and it was very delicious. Personally I felt my skillet needed a little extra seasoning, I'm not one to add extra salt to my food, but I felt it needed some help. We both enjoyed our meals and would come back again.

Average diner food. The gyro skillet was fine. The biscuits and gravy was a powder pack mix. The Hollandaise sauce was a powder pack mix with too much lemon. The bacon was under done so you need to definitely ask for it well done. The pancake was good. The coffee was fine.

Nice diner atmosphere, exactly what I wanted. Salad wouldn't order again, instead Id go with the soup. Was looking for a light meal.... Didnt get that, not a bad thing tho, tasted good and hope to make it back in the future.

Went to breakfast here with Jr. The place was packed. Always a good sign. I ordered a waffle combo. Jr ordered a gyro omelette. We really enjoyed it. Yummy! Our server was pleasant and quick. We will be back!

Beef Barley

Great and friendly service and good food, what else can you ask for. The restaurant is bigger on the inside than you would think and very clean. The deluxe meal comes with fries and a cup of soup. I got the cream of cabbage soup and my partner got the other soup of the day which was beef barley. They both were served hot and tasted delicious! The pizza burger was big and tasty and so was the turkey triple decker club. I love fries with a coating like these had. They have Pepsi products which is great with me. I am glad the waitress asked about refills a lot because it is $2.99 for a drink. The prices are right in line with every other restaurant and diner like this one. The menu is huge and there is lots to chose from. I highly recommend trying this place out!

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed…read more I'm disappointed because in my 46 years on this planet, this was probably the best meal I have ever had. Which means everything else is downhill from here. I started with the Buffalo-style chicken wings. They claimed they were "jumbo and juicy." I've heard that line before, so naturally I was skeptical. Then they came out. They were absolutely true to their name. Huge, ridiculously juicy, and coated in what tasted like some kind of cornflake-style breading before being fried to absolute perfection. Crispy. Crunchy. Juicy. Every bite had that perfect crackle on the outside without sacrificing anything inside. Then came the steak. Now, I cook a mean steak myself, and I'm rarely impressed when I order one at a restaurant. Most of the time I'm sitting there thinking, "Yeah, I could've done this at home." Not this time. This was a 14-ounce New York strip cooked medium rare, and I would have been proud of myself if I had cooked that steak. It was so flavorful that asking for salt would have felt like a sin. But somehow, the steak wasn't even the whole story. The mixed vegetables were seasoned perfectly. I hate okra. I'm not exactly the president of the squash fan club either. I ate every last bite. Then there was the potato. I don't even know exactly what they did to this thing. It was cut in a way that somehow allowed it to get crispy all over, inside, outside, probably spiritually too, and then covered in a sauce that soaked into all those little crispy layers without ruining the texture. For dessert, I had a limoncello and the tableside crème brûlée with blueberries, pineapple, and marshmallows. The chef came right to the table and torched the crème brûlée and marshmallows in front of me. The fresh fruit and toasted marshmallow were perfect with the rich custard, and taking little sips of limoncello between bites gave you that hit of sweet citrus that reset your palate just enough to make you immediately want another bite. The service matched the food. Friendly, fun, attentive without hovering, and they even boxed up my leftovers for me. So, sincerely, thank you to the chef and the entire staff. You gave me one of the best meals I've ever eaten... and an entirely new reason to have a midlife crisis.

Good selection of food on the menu for something different to suit your taste. Check out the menu…read morein advance. The service is adequate to excellent depending on your waiter or waitress. The atmosphere is pleasant. Well lighted. You must climb steps to get to the second floor which makes it hard for the disabled. Other than that fine.

That said, nothing here blows me away taste, or service-wise. I've never had a bad meal or service issue here either. I considered a demerit this time around for the current prices, but frankly it's the same way everywhere, esp for bfast. The biggest downside is probly the ambiance, which is more on the noisy side based on it being a pretty large place these days and still pretty popular. I can't comment on lunch or dinner because we've never tried it, but the place prized brunch spot mostly by folks middle-aged and up (with more families/kids on the weekends) for its all-around consistency.
