My beautiful birthday cake that has made my day truly special!
    Ebony M.

When I need a cake for a special occasion! Tonnie's Mini's is the "only" bakery I call to have a custom cake made. Tonnie's cakes & cupcakes are the best cake's I have ever had. If you ever want to get an idea of how amazing the cakes are. Buy a slice of the cake in the store. These cakes are beyond amazing.

Been wanting to try this little cupcake shop for a while now. It was very good. The quality is very unlike those chain cupcake places. The cakes are very moist and the icings are not greasy but creamy and delicious. We got 12 of them because they aren't huge, and we wanted to share them. They were all delicious. The red velvet and the lemon were particularly good. Everyone tries to make a red velvet, but they're always dry and they're always loaded with food coloring, and they rarely have that distinctive cocoa flavor that defines them. This one had it all, including that tart vanilla sour cream icing. I highly recommend that red velvet if you are a fan. The line was also bright and very flavorful. The other cupcakes did not disappoint in that they were tasty. But some of them oversold. For instance, the dolce de Leche I don't really know what I was expecting, but what I got was a very tasty vanilla cake with a creamy vanilla frosting, and a swirl of caramel on the icing. I guess I was expecting more caramel inside or something that made it burst with a caramel flavor. The chocolate cupcake, and the Oreo cookie cupcake we're both very good. But I will tell you the outright winner of the day, was the brownie! We bought a brookie and a brownie, and both were absolutely, positively, phenomenal. The brownie was so crazy moist and the chocolate was so delicious. I would go back there Every day pay the tolls drive the distance just for that brownie. Try the brownie.

This was on a list from nj.com about bakeries to try. So we tried it. And we enjoyed everything we had. We tried a dozen various cupcakes, a brookie (chocolate chip cookie brownie combo) and a brownie. The cupcakes were all very fresh and tasty. The frosting on every single one of them was delicious. And the cupcake cakes were all moist and delicious. The brownies were a delight. They were so chewy and dense with chocolate. Those were my favorite. Parking is tough here but we got lucky with the no parking zone in front being clear. Given the store is small with big windows that you can the street it was easy to park and run in and out. It's also an easy place to drive around the block while your partner gets out to buy what you want. Worse comes to worse you park and walk but not if your a girl alone. I wouldn't let my gf walk these streets alone. There are locals hanging around and it's sketchy just being honest. So if you're not a burly guy type, come with a buddy and you will easily be able to work it out. It's most definitely worth a trip.

Today is my birthday and I'm very particular about where I get my cake! And I wanted to try something different! and this did not disappoint! I decided on a pineapple coconut cake this time and it was very moist and delicious, all the flavors came through Thank you for making my birthday yummy!

Love it love it!! Finally some good cupcakes from a real baker. Moist, flavorful and just the right amount of sweetness. Variety here, they even had my favorite pie Sweet Potato, grabbed a few to eat while working. Grabbed some mini cupcakes to take home. Staff was nice and friendly, this will be my new go to spot. Shout out to fellow YELP ELITE Daniela H. For her review of the spot!!! Update: Just had that sweet potato pie and man, Patty Ain't got nothing on these. Crust was nice and buttery, heated it up for 45 seconds and just heavenly.

Found this place on a whim! So glad I did. Super friendly staff. Super moist and delicious cupcakes can't go wrong with any. In fact get the sampler to try them all. Most recently tried the banana pudding. Whooaaa I don't even like banana pudding and it was so goood. Homemade for sure! Not overpowering with banana flavor just right. I've literally been taking all of my family members here one by one when they come into town lol. No more traveling to NY to other bakeries for me. I live a little too close and find myself buying dessert too often here. The only two comments I will make is that the cake isn't always consistently moist. I stopped buying cake slices because of this. Also, the chocolate icing has been inconsistent. On my first visit it was nice and fudge like and on my most recent visit I got the sampler cupcakes and the icing taste weird. It was oily like. Like something was missing and left a bad aftertaste. However, that will not stop me from returning because everything else is usually delish. Don't forget the sign up for the Tonnie's Loyalty app when you get in store! Nice treats and discounts.

My husband surprised me with a desert table for my birthday. Custom peanut butter and chocolate birthday cake and assorted cupcakes. Every desert was delicious. They even provided him with the stands to make it beautiful for someone they never met Great desserts Great customer service

I have a major sweet tooth and couldn't wait to give this spot a try. When I arrived I parked nearby on the street. I walked in and was greeted and served by a nice young man. The bakery was super cute. I asked a few questions before I decided to go with the lemon cupcake and chocolate cake slice. When I went to pay the young man informed me if I enroll with my phone number I can get a free cupcake and build points. I decided to get the mini chocolate cupcakes. My total was a little over $10. When I got home I tasted the lemon cupcake's icing and it wasn't bad at all. I dug into one of the mini cupcakes and it was soft and flavorful. I had a good experience and will return to order cakes and try more.

The hosts Ooooed and Awwwed over the size of them & the unique flavors and when we would normally never pay 5$ a piece for chocolate, we thought they looked like a deal given the "size" and unique flavors. [12 pieces for $59.95] What was delivered was a joke! The total weight of the chocolates was approximately 8 ounces. That made them $120 a pound. They were simply packed loosely in a shipping box, so the box of truffles was shook and shaken all the way to our house and they looked terrible by the time they arrived. So an F for shipping. And the size, well as you can see they were nowhere as large as what was presented, as some were not even large enough to fill the space allowed in their packaging! For the most part they were smaller than a Lindor truffle. So another F for actual portion size in relation to what as presented on QVC. Finally the taste.... There was none. We tries 3, and they had NO real taste. I described them as eating Play Dough...just a weird putty texture. And the killer is 2 of the 3 we tried were hollow and you could see the seam where they constructed them. Yes...a BIG FAT "F" for taste!! We tried to return them and QVC didnt even want them back... So we put them where they belonged...in the TRASH. I welcome the owners of this establishment to prove to us what they offer is actually worth $120 a pound....

I placed a cake order a week before my birthday photoshoot and provided a clear reference photo plus detailed instructions to the baker, Elizabeth, over phone and text. I even came in person to pay a $20 deposit because I wasn't comfortable giving my card over the phone. What I requested was simple: A white, heart-shaped cake with pearls, curtain detailing, black bows, and elegant black cursive writing that said "Chapter 30." Unfortunately, what I received looked nothing like what I asked for. * Photo 1: What I asked for * Photo 2: First attempt -- extremely disappointing * Photo 3: Second attempt -- still not what I asked for When I came to pick up the cake, I was visibly disappointed. The tall male supervisor apologized and told me, "I'll see if we can fix it. Please come back in the morning." I explained how inconvenient it was to come three separate times for one cake: once for the deposit, once for pickup, and again because of their poor quality. He assured me that the supervisor, Corrine, would call me the next morning about the revision and compensation for the inconvenience. That call never came. On the morning of my photoshoot, I had to call THEM to find out if the cake had even been fixed. Corrine sent a photo of the revised cake, and it still looked unprofessional. She said I would receive a refund if I remained unhappy -- yet I never received my apology, and I still never received my $20 refund. I'm sharing this review so others are aware. This bakery used to represent quality, but clearly that standard no longer exists. After showing the photos to friends and family, several revealed they've had similar disappointing experiences recently as well. The most embarrassing part? My mother named me after this bakery because of its reputation and legacy in Newark. After this experience, that association feels more embarrassing than meaningful. Calandra's bakery, do better. Your long-time loyal customers deserve far more respect and care than this.

Place gets packed despite the many tables. Service was amazing, food was great (slightly higher prices than others, but the quality execution and quantity balanced it out). No false notes that we could tell. Some standouts were mashed potatoes (really good), cornbread (toasted and slight sweet, with strawberry butter which was wild), whole wheat bread toasted (it was good I tell you) and fried chicken (it will haunt me in my hungry moments). Didn't think a diner would impact me as much, but they over delivered. Go, but make a reservation unless you want to wait.

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.
