Tommy's Tree Service completed work at my home several weeks ago. I must confess that my tech skills leave a lot to be desired as I just discovered "where" to leave a review. Now, I must rave about Tommy and his crew: Tommy and his crew lifted the canopy of my trees and trimmed back the limbs coming over my fence from my neighbor's yard. His crew was very mindful of what cuts can be done to not stress the trees and maintain the health of the trees. The view is great now. Neighbors noticed and commented on how nice the trees look. And, I believe because of his work, I didn't lose any limbs during the most recent storm with very bad winds that came through damaging several trees in my neighborhood. While his crew worked on the trees, we talked about my overall yard needs. He offered to get new mulch for the trees and flower beds. Tommy even offered to get more mulch and come back to fill in a couple areas free of charge. His pricing for the trees and mulch were very reasonable. I was impressed with the efficiency of his crew. Working from the ground, my canopy's were raised in short order. I was in the process of staining my fence at the time. The crew worked opposite where I was working. They waited and moved to the front yard until I was out of the way to continue raising the canopy at the fence line. Safety was always top of mind. All in all, very professional, customer oriented, reasonable, and diligent. I'll be calling Tommy again when I need his services. I highly recommend Tommy's Tree Service. read more

I've done business with Tommy over the years for a many tree service. He was fair in the past but I do not recommend them today. For the most recent job for tree trimming and fence repair they did not finish but demanded full payment promising to return the next day to complete the other 10% of the work which was to trim and cap the 4 posts. He didn't keep his word and ignored calls. After 72 hours I gave up. The workmanship of the fence was also poor with cockeyed screws. His crew's conduct was unprofessional especially one guy constantly badger for a "tip". They asked some beers. Brought them some, but still shorted me. Also tried to return extra materials I paid for store credit for himself. Fortunately Home Depot desk stopped them and informed me that the refund was going back to my card. Unfortunately, I have to share a negative experience. We hired Tommy to trim all the oak trees in our front yard. I walked the property with him beforehand, and he assured me that he and his crew could handle it without any issues. On the first day, Tommy came out and worked by himself, which we appreciated. However, given the size of our property, the number of oaks, and the height of the limbs needing removal, it was clear we needed a full crew -- including climbers -- to safely and effectively complete the job. Tommy said he would return the next day with his team. Over the next two visits, Tommy brought two other workers who helped clean up the limbs he had cut down using a long pole saw. During our walk-through, I specifically pointed out that the trees around our house were the highest priority since their limbs were overhanging the roof. Tommy assured me his climber would take care of them. At the end of the third day, Tommy requested full payment. Against my better judgment, I paid him in full based on his promise to return and complete the work. Unfortunately, he never came back. At first, he answered my calls and texts for about a month, but eventually he stopped responding altogether. It has now been over two months. He cashed the check and we have not heard from him since. We own ladders, chainsaws, and pole saws ourselves -- but we hired a professional so we wouldn't have to do this work. I also feel misled about the existence of his "crew." The work we needed most required climbers, and the job should have been handled by professionals with the right equipment from the start. We paid over $1,000 for services that were not completed. I am posting this review both to warn others and in the hope that Tommy will reach back out to honor his commitment. If he does, I will gladly update this review. read more

I see that I am not the only one that paid in full before the job was done. For some reason, the crew decided to stop the work that they were doing, and leave. They indicated they would be back the next day to finish some bush pruning. Five days later, no crew. Three text messages then a promise to come first thing Friday. It is now Monday, no word. They not only had me pay in full (my mistake for being naive), but did not provide a receipt which I requested, did not return to finish about 30 minutes of work that I already paid for. Then, I discovered that instead of removing some leaves, they just blew them up against the fence, in huge piles. It will take me hours to clean up the mess. They offered to come and clean it up, but never did. They also broke a bird bath, dog bed and set of string lights. Not one of the four crew members mentioned this to me. Additionally, my neighbor and I both realized that this is the FIRST and ONLY tree trimming company that either of us has hired in over 30 years, that left such a mess. Small limbs everywhere. Both of us have spent hours cleaning up what they left behind. This all started when they did work on my neighbor's yard and left a HUGE mess in MY yard. I contacted them to come and clean it up - not my responsibility. They sort of cleaned it up and then proceeded to talk me into hiring them. What a mistake. Now I have to hire someone to clean up their mess, and replace the items they broke, so I am out money - and they got paid for work they did not complete. Four of my neighbors used them, all complained. So very sad that the professionalism and commitment is lacking. FINISH a freaking job while you are there, clean up after yourself, and for gawk sake, if you break items, tell the homeowner. I just had surgery, so this entire 'mess' has me very unhappy. read more

I just had my live oak trees trimmed by Tommy's Tree Service. He and his team cut from the ground instead of up in the trees. Which is great. He gave me a quote the same day and was available to do the work the next day. The quote was $800, the other two quotes I got were for $1,400 and $2,380. Great job and reasonably priced. This is a no frills crew, they cut trees and haul them away. They aren't going to show up in uniforms and give you formal written quotes and clean up every single leaf. It's more like "Yeah I can cut that down, how's $100 bucks sound". I found them because my neighbor was using them and I thought "As long as you're here, maybe you can give me an idea on price in terms of taking down this tree that I've been dreading dealing with for 2 years". It was a really tall tree that I thought was going to be impossible to remove without falling on a house, but some how they did it, and for WAY less money than I thought it would be. I called Tommy's Tree Service to help deal with an old growth tree that was in dire need of pruning. The tree is on a hill that leans over far enough to make it a risk for splitting. I was impressed that Tommy answered the phone himself and was very polite. I told them that it was somewhat urgent, and he said he'd get over as early as he could. He had other jobs, which I respected. We agreed to meet much later in the afternoon, but I got a call an hour later saying he was on his way. Tommy came with a young helper and another older gentleman who appeared to be the "arborist" of the operation. All of the gentlemen were very nice & friendly. They looked at my situation and immediately recommended that I "top" my tree! Topping is absolutely not recommended by any licensed arborist. A tree that needs topping may as well be permited for removal since topping the tree ends up killing it later down the road. Google "topping a tree" and see what you discover. I was shocked & disappointed that they were so quick to suggest this at a cost of $1,200. They even tried to convince me that the tree would quickly grow back with new sucker growth even stronger than before. They seemed in a hurry to get started on the job, but I politely declined and sent them on their way. While I can't speak to the work of Tommy's Tree Service, my advice is to be very careful with their recommendations. If your tree needs simple pruning, these guys might be a good value. I don't know. But if your tree needs a careful, professional approach, I could not in good conscience recommend Tommy's Tree Service. read more

If you are looking for a hard working man who will get the job done, then Tommy is your guy. We had him cut two trees down and clean up three and all this was for $400. We gave him a little extra because one of the Pear trees was a beast to take down. We have also recommended him to a few of our friends and as we speak he is taking care of one of them now. Tommy was wonderful. He's quite the "Bubba-Joe" personality.. for lack of a better way of describing him. But an honest, hard-working man. We called Tommy, he showed up the next day to quote us. It was $300 for him to trim our oak tree, remove a dead tree, and some minor trimming to a smaller tree. What?! That was a quarter of the price that other places quoted us for just trimming our oak tree! The next day he came out with his crew. It took them about 2-3 hours to do it all. Cleaned up everything after themselves.. including racking up small leaves and twigs. He even lift us a pair of clippers (there's probably a more professional name for them) to trim our bushes, since we asked if he could do it. And he said he doesn't do lawn work like that. I thought that was really sweet of him. We will definitely be using Tommy again and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tree trimming/removal service. read more

I recently sent an email request for a quote to Tommy's. I needed a very small tree removed and another company was quoting $325 (starting point). I wanted to get a second opinion. Tommy called back first thing the next day. I called him back and he was at my house in 10 minutes. He walked in the back yard, saw the tree, pushed on it and just grabbed it and took it to his trailer. It was very dead! He didn't charge me for anything. I called Tommy at 4:00 PM on a Friday afternoon, expecting to set something up for next week. He answered the phone himself and drove from the Lake Travis area to central Austin; arriving at my house by 6:00 PM that same day. He gave me a very reasonable quote and wanted to get started the next morning. I had some dead trees and some less desirable trees that I wanted removed, plus a big pile of brush in my backyard... He had his crew out early the next morning (Saturday) and they were finished by about noon! Also, they were very careful not to mess up any of my landscaping while dealing with large dead trees. Overall, I was very impressed with the price, speed and quality. Thank goodness I Found Tommy's Tree Service. Tommy came out within a couple of hours to give me an estimate on trimming my huge shrubs. They came this morning and got it off our roof and cleaned out of our yard quickly and efficiently and at what I believe is a fair price. I didn't use his service, thank god but my neighbor started to. We have oak wilt in our neighborhood and the city arborist is here constantly giving guidelines on cutting. I noticed while he was cutting that he wasn't sealing the cuts nor was he cleaning the blades as the guidelines state. When I asked him about it he immediately became aggressive telling me that it wasn't necessary and to mind my own business. He has been doing this 40 years and there always has to be "one" giving problems. I said I have legitimate concerns. It went south from there. I stopped talking to him and went to the neighbor. I learn this guy is representing himself as an arborist. All he could do was tell my neighbor that "your nosy neighbor is causing problems" The neighbor told him to seal the cuts and stop the work. City of Austin wants his info for not following CoA guidelines for tree trimming. I provided the info. This guy apparently already has a reputation. Several people I called were telling me all sorts of horror stories of running out on jobs and leaving debris behind. Beware if you decide to save some money with this guy. You get what you pay for. I called Tommy at eleven am, he came to my house for an estimate at two pm, and the tree branch was down by four - all in the same day. Before this branch started threatening my power lines and neighbor's truck, I had never hired a tree trimmer. I had no idea what to expect in terms of cost. I called a different arborist, and he was really cordial. He informed me that since power lines were involved, it was dangerous, and the city would likely do it for free. Otherwise, it would cost me a pretty penny. So I called Austin Energy, and they came out and took a look. Because the tree was dangling over the lines going from the pole to my house, and not the main lines, they wouldn't do it. Unlike most tree trimmers (and believe me, I called many), Tommy answered his phone right away. The quote he gave me was much, much more reasonable than the previous quote I had. And once the work was done, since the servicing was a little easier than expected, Tommy charged me less than the original quote. It's worth mentioning that what I payed Tommy was exactly half of what the other arborist quoted me. Fast, friendly, and affordable. What a great team. read more

Left the job site nice and clean and the price was very affordable given the quality of the work performed. Highly recommended.***update*** I'm sad to report that his crew did not clean up the pecans and branches that were on the roof after cutting down the tree. A seemly healthy tree was uprooted on my property a few weekends ago. It fell into another tree and was in danger of falling onto the garage. Being the weekend, It was hard to get anyone on the phone. I called Tommy as he advertises a 24 hour service. Not only did he answer, he was also enthusiastic about coming over to check it out. He arrived shortly afterwards and assessed the situation. He gave me a reasonable quote and said he could start the next day. Around 9:00am he arrived with his crew and within 20 minutes had the tree on the ground and ready to be hauled. He said he had to dump his trailer from the previous day and then he'd be back to clean up. I had to leave for work, so on good faith I went ahead and paid him before the job was finished. Tommy called me at work to say he had returned and everything was picked up, he even managed to get the stump out of the ground! I got a quote from Tommy, I paid him halfway through the job, then he intentionally left early and didn't finish. Tommy had the nerve to call and say he could come back the next day and finish... for more money of course. After I declined, he asked that I recommend him for other jobs. I had to use my time to haul off the 2 loads of remaining brush and I later found that he had piled mulch over a stack of logs to hide them. read more
