This was a great decision as I quickly realized I was working with experienced arborists. Chris arrived on time for our gratis consultation and provided guidance regarding caring for our 3 trees. We scheduled a follow up to discuss elevating the canopies and trimming/shaping our trees. Their work crew arrived on time and did a great job. I reviewed the job and asked for some additional trimming which they did. Most importantly they removed and hauled away all the debris. I'm not sure why all the good reviews. We've had a terrible time with them . Sean came over and we explained what we wanted and we thought he understood but the trees were not cut back enough and the bottoms weren't cleaned up. We asked them to come back out, it took weeks for them to finally show and when they did they ruined our trees. I could have done a better job. read more

I will provide the same feedback here that I provided to the folks at Good Guys Tree Service, plus a little more color. Appreciate the service and the overall good job the team did, I inspected what I could, post work, but missed two things. General yard cleanup - not as good as expected - quite a few limbs and branches left behind that I had to cleanup and remove. (note a separate fee is charged for cleanup) Right side of house - great job - save they did not reduce the height of one of the trees such that it was not clearing the roof line. I only noticed this after stepping further into street to review and from my second floor window. Just one limb with associated branches missed. Other than these two items, great job. Thank you! To summarize Sean did a great job during the estimate process, very thorough with great note taking and pictures. They made it clear that if there were any issues I needed to point them out while the team was onsite, otherwise there was a $500 fee for them to come back. I guess that works well as long as you are at home for the duration of the service. Sean came out and did the walk through with the team ( thanks Sean) As noted the team did a very very good job, save for the cleanup and missing two items - reducing height of tree branches on one side of house and trimming of one other tree. As it was incumbent on me to point this out while they were on site, it is what it is. What is unfortunate is they never responded to the feedback and email that I sent to them after paying the invoice as soon as it was received. I confess that is a bit disappointing. read more

It took only a day from when my Yelp request for an estimate to take care of a bamboo problem before Jerry was here at the appointment time to assess my mess. Simon and his crew did a marvelous job! He discussed everything with me and made sure I was completely happy before they left (they cleaned up really nicely too). I certainly will be using this excellent company again. 10/22: I had a great tree guy but he retired last year. I called around and got quite a big difference in prices from a couple of companies. Justin came out and gave me a great price. The crew (of 9) showed up the day they said they would. They did a marvelous job. Justin showed up with them to make sure everything was OK. The Foreman walked around the house with me and made sure I was happy with everything before I signed off. I was very happy with the work and how quickly they did it. They had a chipper and although I can't NOT think of the movie "Fargo" whenever I see a chipper, it made short work of all the branches they removed. They also did a great job of trimming my shrubs. **Review for estimate visit only** Inquiring about a quote and the appointment process was quick and easy. It was Saturday and someone from the office called to schedule us during a 2 hour window for the following Monday. Sean sent a text bright and early Monday to confirm that he'd be coming that day and also sent a text when he was about 30 minutes away. I was pleasantly greeted by Sean upon arrival and he provided a card showing his certified arborist number. We stopped at the front yard to discuss our red oak tree. He gave some helpful info on how to care for it and what it needed in the future. We then moved to the back yard. Sean has really good eyes because he told me what he saw on one of our crepe myrtles from "a mile away" and this wasn't even one of the trees that we asked for an estimate. Sean was so very thorough in telling me about all of the trees we had on our property (without asking) and giving us an overall health update for each. Turns out we were doing really well for the most part with the care of our trees. read more

I got a reasonable estimate, and they were able to schedule the job for the next day. However, there were some issues with the job. They were only supposed to cut down the trees in the back corner of my yard, but they took everything, including my pequins and lantana. I didn't realize I was supposed to tell them not to take those, because all we had talked about were trees. I just wanted the hackberries gone. I also had to tell them multiple times how far down to cut the larger tree they were working on, and had to pull up the photo from the estimate to show them the cut line. It seems like there was some very poor communication. They also moved a lot of items on my patio in order to make room so they could carry out what they cut down, which was fine. However, I asked TWICE if they would put everything back where it was, and was told both times that they would, but that didn't happen. I asked the Viking looking dude right before I left if they would put everything back, he said yes ma'am, but when I came back from Target nine minutes later, the entire crew was gone, and nothing had been moved back where it was supposed to be. I had even turned all the patio lights on for them before I left, since it was starting to get dark. They also damaged my downspout and my neighbor's shed, in addition to scraping the brand new paint on the side of my house (literally done a week ago). They're planning to take care of the shed, but my downspout apparently doesn't matter. Next time I need tree work done, I'll be hiring someone else. Definitely not the Mediocre Guys. read more

After noticing that a lovely, large tree in my front yard had fungus growing on both sides of the base, I consulted an arborist, who said I should probably take it down, but couldn't give me much more detail than that. I called Good Guys Tree Service for a second opinion and was visited by Master Arborist Jerry Weathered, who has over 30 years experience. He examined the tree and immediately identified all the signs that the tree was indeed in peril. He showed me where the tree had been stressed by drought and freeze and how high winds had caused the tree to bend and crack the main root at the base - allowing fungal penetration. Further, he gave me tips on how to recognize fungal threat early on and how to pre-emtively treat it if it should occur on other trees in my yard. Excellent service from start to finish thanks most of all to Jose's professional and friendly management of the entire project. He swung by my house just a couple days after I reached out for a consultation and he took his time expertly answering my questions and inspecting and photographing the trees I wanted trimmed. It was great to know he was a trained arborist who knew how to properly care for trees when pruning and trimming. The estimate was detailed and Good Guys were willing to negotiate pricing to fit in my budget. The day of the job, Jose brought a crew of around 10 workers and they quickly, expertly, and professionally worked on 5 of my trees. The formally beloved tree company called Good Guys Tree Service was recently purchased by a national company called "Tree Guardians" who is buying up local tree service companies all over the U.S. so they can outbid the local businesses and put them out of business. When they bought "Good Guys", part of the contract was to keep the buyout secret so that the former customers wouldn't know. This is corporate greed at it's worst. I recently attempted to procure their services but they were so rude and unaccomodating that I went with a different tree service. Being a true "local" company, they were much nicer, more knowledgeable, more professional and far less greed driven than the current version of "Good Guys". Please don't give this greedy national corporation your money. There are plenty of local businesses and individuals who can offer better service with much friendlier business practices that don't harm local economies! read more

We had a $3k project, which included $675 for grinding plants. Within 3 months, the plants grew back. Had we known that the grinding wouldn't permanently remove the plants, we'd not have spent the money -- because, of course, what's the point of paying for $675 for grinding if the plants reappear, much less in merely 3 months! Also, in spite of being "family owned", Good Guys' operation is very "corporate" -- with lots of emails and lengthy forms with lots of print and a glossy website. But when you have a question, they're more interested in saying "read the contract" then answering the questions. And, in spite of their claim that they provide "100% customer satisfaction", they've ignored our request for a $675 refund for the grinding that was objectively ineffective. We're now exploring seeking a refund in Small Claims Court. read more

Poor customer experience. First they didn't show up at all for the estimate and I had to make special accommodations for an estimate on a Sunday. The day before the scheduled service a rep from Good Guys called to confirm an appointment first thing in the morning. I called at 10:00 AM to get an ETA and I was told it would be about an hour until the crew arrives. an hour later I called again and was told it would be another hour. Good Guys work today at our home was expert, efficient, with attention to detail in branch removal and cleanup. Robert Hill, Good Guys' estimator, discussed needed work to remove a 10'-15' broken branch above entry path to our house. While only this branch posed an immediate danger, there were additional dead branches that needed trimming (all 35'-40' high), along with removal of other tree debris included in our contract. Their office gives timely responses to questions about scheduling and the contract. The day after Robert's estimate, Good Guys' crew was scheduled. Tray, crew leader, Edgar and Willie, arrived on time with text alert ahead for contracted work. Tray supervised and worked with, Edgar (who conducted branch cutting and removal from the ground), and Willie (who scaled 35'-40' to cut down the broken and other compromised branches). The crew worked continuously from their time of arrival , throughout branch removal and cleanup. Our tree now has a safe and healthier canopy. This is our third experience with Good Guys. I had many bids on pruning the many trees in our yard. I also requested the removal of dead limbs, ball moss, clearing of limbs hovering over our roof, and trimming the trees on the sidewalk and street per city code. Many of the bids were way too much. Good Guys came by (on time) but also mapped out exactly what they were going to do and even analyzed the health of our trees - finding two problem areas that I suspected but didn't know for sure what was wrong. Bid was VERY reasonable and was a "no brainer" selecting them to do our work. The crew showed up early and did an EXCELLENT job! During our walk-around at the end, they had NO problems doing some final cuts-n-prunes that my wife requested. They didn't argue, make a face, or try to talk us out of the extra work. Jared came by my place and provided me a free quote on an oak tree that needed trimming. I was a bit concerned about oak trees getting infected. He reassured me that the crew sanitizes the equipment, paints over tree wounds, and told me the best times to trim. He was very quick to respond and was patient. The crew came and trimmed my oak tree. They came early which was great and got my oak tree up to code. Before they left they asked me how I liked it and if I had any other suggestions.
