The stump was extremely close to my foundation and their technician, Tanner, took great care to make sure that all of the exposed roots were removed without damaging my foundation. Everything about this experience was above and beyond my expectations. The 2 trees in my front yard have never been pruned/trimmed and were in great need. Cargil, certified arborist, walked my yard with me several weeks ago and gave a professional recommendation for my heritage live oak trees that needed trimming. We had a great experience with the team from Capitol Tree Care. From the office staff to the tree cutting crew, everyone was very friendly and seemed genuinely invested in making sure our needs were taken care of. Cargil (one of the arborists) came out to look at our Cedar Elm that had split, and he gave us lots of great information as to what probably caused the split and what he recommended. Ultimately, it made the most sense to have it removed, and he gave us a very reasonable price, while explaining exactly what we would be charged for and how the price was determined. I appreciated his expertise and transparency. Since there was a risk of the tree falling and damaging our house, he put a rush on the job and the crew came out the following business day. I watched from the kitchen window as they took it down, and it was impressive! They were so fast, but so precise and careful at the same time. And when they were done, they cleaned everything up and asked if we wanted the mulch that was created from the tree being ground up. I had ~10 trees in my yard (some quite large) that required different types of care -- some needed a lot of trimming to removed dead limbs and limbs hanging close to the ground, and a few other smaller ones needed full removal to avoid damage to my house and infrastructure. The owner, James Burtchell, visited the lot multiple times and asked all the right questions about what I wanted. He made great suggestions, too. Wow - where to start. See pics - self explanatory. First, scanned the previous reviews....makes sense (5stars)...although the 1star review? Seeeems highly questionable, and doesn't mention anyone on their team (wouldn't trust that review). Regardless, James and his company are unreal - the true epitome of being experts in their field. I called randomly when I saw the vehicle on the road, because other people I tried to speak with, were just not responsive and unreliable. A quote for $1300 for 2 trees to be pruned/trimmed was wild...so I needed to compare. Very high value for the pricing, and quotes will vary depending on your work. Just call them - no need to look anywhere else, but keep reading for more detail. Honest company, an unbelievable amount of knowledge on trees, recommended I do certain things, not to do other things now & also when a better time to do them would be (due to the seasons and temps in the environment), and the workers were great / worked safe / and did an amazing job. You really don't know what great work is until it's complete and you experience something like this type of service. Some pictures here for proof. Will not be choosing anyone else again, and will absolutely use them again in the future for other projects and maintenance upkeep. Stop looking, and commit to this team to do the work for you. The crew (Brian, Cargil, Frank, and Cesar) showed up on time, were professional, courteous, and answered questions upfront. They worked quickly but efficiently and then had me inspect to ensure the work was performed to my specifications. James Burtchell and his crew of Brian and Cargil did a great job cabling an old Red Oak tree in my backyard. They Installed 3 steel cables to prevent the 3 diseased trunks from falling onto my house and nearby fences. The cables are up high and barely noticeable. James also used his Resitograph tool to test for decay in the stems and base of the Red Oak. It showed significant decay, so I feel the cabling was a good idea. They also did a good job cleaning up tree branches they cut for the cabling work. In addition, they installed two extra eye bolts from a tree limb and hung my chain, caribiners, and baby swing for me. I have also used James for tree pruning for over 10 years. read more

Capitol is owned by an ISA Certified Arborist and forester, James Burtchell. He's also certified to assess and treat Oak Wilt and tree risk, and to reduce wildfire risk. So this company is not your average "tree trimmers." We've used James' services at our previous and current Austin homes, and this is how he works: You schedule an appointment and meet with him as he assesses the trees on your property. It's about a 20 minute appointment, during which you can ask him questions as he puts together his recommendations for trimming, treatment, feeding, whatever he thinks will help you take excellent care of your trees. He emails you the proposal, and if you decide you want to move forward, you accept it. Then his office manager calls you to schedule, and the person/crew shows up and follows his plan. He doesn't charge up front for his visit. They do charge a fee if you use a credit card, but you can mail them a check or auto-pay via your bank to avoid this. We've had Capitol's trimming and feeding services, both of which went well. The cost is about equal to what we've been quoted from other reputable local tree services, perhaps a bit higher, but my guess is that cost includes James' initial visit and opinion, which normally would cost about $100-125, if you had to call an arborist. This arborist is honest, low-pressure and practical in his recommendations, and his employees follow them. I've had bad experiences with "tree trimmers" in the past, so I know you can't trust just anyone. Our trees are part of our property value and enjoyment, so IMO they're worth protecting. If you feel the same, James may be your guy, too. read more

James really knows his business (he is a Texas A&M graduate who majored in forestry and is a Certified Arborist who holds various certifications). His pricing is reasonable, his crews and climbers are reliable and well-trained and they also are very kind and courteous people. Capitol has done several jobs for me and I have referred them to neighbors who also were quite pleased with the work they performed. James will not sell you a job just to make a fee. Recently, I asked him to come out to give me an estimate and he told me that I did not need to have anything done for at least 6 or 7-months from now - a testament to James' honesty and integrity.
