I had ~10 trees in my yard (some quite large) that required different types of care -- some needed a lot of trimming to removed dead limbs and limbs hanging close to the ground, and a few other smaller ones needed full removal to avoid damage to my house and infrastructure. Wow - where to start. See pics - self explanatory. First, scanned the previous reviews....makes sense (5stars)...although the 1star review? Seeeems highly questionable, and doesn't mention anyone on their team (wouldn't trust that review). Regardless, James and his company are unreal - the true epitome of being experts in their field. I called randomly when I saw the vehicle on the road, because other people I tried to speak with, were just not responsive and unreliable. A quote for $1300 for 2 trees to be pruned/trimmed was wild...so I needed to compare. Very high value for the pricing, and quotes will vary depending on your work. Just call them - no need to look anywhere else, but keep reading for more detail. Honest company, an unbelievable amount of knowledge on trees, recommended I do certain things, not to do other things now & also when a better time to do them would be (due to the seasons and temps in the environment), and the workers were great / worked safe / and did an amazing job. You really don't know what great work is until it's complete and you experience something like this type of service. Some pictures here for proof. The crew (Brian, Cargil, Frank, and Cesar) showed up on time, were professional, courteous, and answered questions upfront. James Burtchell and his crew of Brian and Cargil did a great job cabling an old Red Oak tree in my backyard. They Installed 3 steel cables to prevent the 3 diseased trunks from falling onto my house and nearby fences. The cables are up high and barely noticeable. James also used his Resitograph tool to test for decay in the stems and base of the Red Oak. It showed significant decay, so I feel the cabling was a good idea. They also did a good job cleaning up tree branches they cut for the cabling work. In addition, they installed two extra eye bolts from a tree limb and hung my chain, caribiners, and baby swing for me. I have also used James for tree pruning for over 10 years. read more

They were able to schedule the service a few weeks later since were fairly busy. The team showed up on time and were really professional. Capitol is owned by an ISA Certified Arborist and forester, James Burtchell. He's also certified to assess and treat Oak Wilt and tree risk, and to reduce wildfire risk. So this company is not your average "tree trimmers." We've used James' services at our previous and current Austin homes, and this is how he works: You schedule an appointment and meet with him as he assesses the trees on your property. It's about a 20 minute appointment, during which you can ask him questions as he puts together his recommendations for trimming, treatment, feeding, whatever he thinks will help you take excellent care of your trees. He emails you the proposal, and if you decide you want to move forward, you accept it. Then his office manager calls you to schedule, and the person/crew shows up and follows his plan. He doesn't charge up front for his visit. They do charge a fee if you use a credit card, but you can mail them a check or auto-pay via your bank to avoid this. We've had Capitol's trimming and feeding services, both of which went well. The cost is about equal to what we've been quoted from other reputable local tree services, perhaps a bit higher, but my guess is that cost includes James' initial visit and opinion, which normally would cost about $100-125, if you had to call an arborist. This arborist is honest, low-pressure and practical in his recommendations, and his employees follow them. I've had bad experiences with "tree trimmers" in the past, so I know you can't trust just anyone. Our trees are part of our property value and enjoyment, so IMO they're worth protecting. If you feel the same, James may be your guy, too. read more

We have been using Capitol Tree Care exclusively for all of our tree care for years. This year (2023) we have called on them more than usual because of the ice storm damage that occurred during the past winter. This involved some extensive cleanup of damage to a number of oaks. It was also necessary to remove one tree that was badly damaged. Of course, they handled all of this work efficiently and professionally. We subsequently asked Capitol Tree Care to plant a replacement for the tree that was lost due to the storm. Warren brought the tree out yesterday and did a great job with the planting. This turned out to be a more difficult process than expected because of the limestone deposits underneath the surface, but due to Warren's resourcefulness and dedication to the project he got it done in a timely and efficient manner.
