I've seen a lot of trees downed in Austin the past few weeks. I thought we'd made it through the worst of the thunderstorms and microbursts, but a tiny spat of rain took a huge branch off the hackberry tree in between my and my neighbor's yard. In a certified Sunday miracle, it barely clipped my gutter (which hung on!) and landed square in between our houses, roofs no worse for the wear. I still found myself feeling a bit uneasy with the tree so close though, so reached out on Yelp to Texas Tree Doctors to take a look. Nicholas responded immediately and was able to come out just a couple hours later. Nicholas is a wealth of knowledge and was kind to answer basically every question I had in my free consult. He offered some really practical remediation in the form of a nutrient treatment that would help get the tree healthier and more supple so it'd be less likely to break in the future. For hardly any extra he offered to haul away the big branch as well. He also ballparked a cost for removing the tree entirely - all quotes seemed really fair. Ultimately, the tree is on the other side of the property line so removal is up to my neighbor, but I appreciate how straightforward it was to get someone with Nicholas's experience to take a look. If we decide to give some love (or destruction) to the tree he'll be the first guy I call. read more

I requested a quote from this company along with quite a few others that I found on Yelp. The owner sent out his associate and the quote was very competitive. It wasn't a small job but he said they were new and really trying to get their name out there. When I heard back from the owner I knew something was off. The work he mentioned didn't match with what his associate and I spoke about at my home. After going round and round via phone, text and email the owner wanted to come out to see the job himself. I had mentioned to him I was fine with him coming as long as the original quote didn't change. He promised it wouldn't. Sadly when he came he went back on his word and his quote quickly jumped up to much much more. I had read a review where this exact thing happened to another person and so I sent into this knowing I needed to be quite clear with them. I didn't want any surprises. We are not going to hire them for the job. So this review is only for their lack of communication and going back on their word to not change the original bid. read more

After the last big storm, one of the big trees in my backyard started leaning, and I had no idea if it was dangerous or not. I reached out to The Texas Tree Doctors, and Nick came out the same day to take a look. He was super friendly and explained everything in a way I could actually understand -- no confusing tree jargon. He reassured me that the tree could be saved, added some kind of support system to stabilize it, and trimmed it up so it was healthier and safer. Honestly, I was just relieved to have someone who knew what they were doing take care of it. The whole process was quick, reasonably priced, and really professional. I would not recommend this service. What I requested, what he said he was going to do, and what was actually done were three completely different things. The work was performed by a single person using very basic tools, and the results were disappointing. Several of my crepe myrtles were cut back so severely that they look damaged rather than properly trimmed--despite the fact that I NEVER asked for them to be touched. He needed to trim the live oaks and get them ready for winter. He can make all the excuses he wants, but the outcome speaks for itself. Beware. read more

Amazing service!! Was at my house within a couple hours at the most. They were fast and very reasonable. Will use again

First of all, Nicholas is VERY responsive and such a nice person!! He responded to the yelp request immediately. For him, I'd give him a 5 easily. The crew was good and respectful. I could tell only one of the crew really knew about trees but they did a good job getting the tree down. You do what you have to do especially with a new business so no shade there. I initially reached out because I had gotten one of the storm trolls stop by to give a quote & I wasn't sure if it was reasonable so wanted a couple of other estimates. I sent a couple of pictures so he'd know what the job was. He immediately responded and offered a quote for $400 less than the other quote so we made arrangements for him to come do the job. When he arrived, Tuesday, a few days later (as planned), he immediately said it would cost MORE than the original quote. I felt a bit strong armed since the original quote had already come down to the reasonable cost but decided to go ahead with the Tree Doctors and agreed to pay the higher amount since I needed the tree off of the roof. They got 1/2 of the tree down & their chainsaw broke so they moved all of the debris into the driveway & said they'd come back the next day. In the meantime, a friend (after having explained the story about the quote) said I should ask him to reduce the price if I move the limbs and debris to the road for the city to pick up. Nick was very amenable to that and knocked off $300 off the total. The next day (Wednesday), he said the chainsaw wasn't fixed and they'd come back Thursday. They got here and finished the tree & moved the big parts of the trunk to the front (per my request) - I paid them and they left. Later , I went to check & found that they had put the big pieces of the trunk on top of my front garden plants instead of atop the brush I had moved to the road. I took pics & texted to Nick who was apologetic & offered to come move them & give me some $ back which I appreciated. This a.m. (Friday), he did come back & move them (since I couldn't move those at all!!) So while my review shows some foibles in this process, I cannot recommend Nick more for the way that he has handled it. That is the mark of a GREAT business person who is customer-focused. He seemed great to his crew (brought them lunch and drinks and spoke very kindly to them.) So I highly recommend his business and know that he is learning and applying that learning to future work. read more
