I'm buying a house that has lots of trees, including heritage trees. I chose this company to inspect the trees because they have such a high rating on Yelp, and because they were the only ones who specifically said on their web page that they inspect trees in connection with house sales. When I called and said I needed an inspection quickly, they were extremely understanding and cooperative; I was able to make an appointment for the very next day. During the inspection itself, Scott awed me with his knowledge and his ability to relay it to a layperson like me. He was knowledgeable not only about trees, but also about tree laws and regulations. He's funny and folksy, but underneath that, he's also smart and incisive -- like the stereotypical "simple country lawyer," except he's a "simple country certified arborist." He identified all the trees, and he gave me crucial advice about how to protect and maintain them. Most important, he identified risks and issues that the trees presented. His fee was extremely reasonable -- indeed, cheap in comparison to the value of his services. DO THIS BEFORE A NEW LANDSCAPING PROJECT We were getting bids and drawing up plans to redo our front yard with new beds, watering, and a sidewalk. We paid Scott to come out for a 1-time consultation fee to get his opinion. If you have big beautiful trees that you want to keep healthy it is more than worth the money. There were all sorts of considerations like drainage, soil depth, mulch or rock under the tree, bed height to keep the tree trunk from rotting, do we cover the exposed roots, ways to remove the old sidewalk without harming the roots... The list goes on and on. He actually saved us thousands of dollars because the proposed beds were bigger than what was good for the tree and went too close to the curb where a future city project could dig them up. read more

I put a request in through his website two days ago, got a call back yesterday, and he consulted at my home this morning! His report on his findings is all oral, so it's a good idea to be ready with a notepad to jot down notes. Scott taught me SO much!! He identified every single tree. I learned how to take care of my trees. He pointed out each specific branch to prune and where, including the type of cut. He pointed out problems my trees have and how well they were overcoming those problems. He informed me of risks with particular trees and branches, and estimated how much longer they may have until failure. One of the best parts of the consultation was how he took into consideration the whole yard, house, what I like to do with my yard and home (chickens, garden, potential solar on the roof), the climate and geography and recommended specific trees that would do well. He also recommended where and when to plant them. I love having so many trees in my yard, and want to continue having healthy trees and shade. With Scott's advice, my yard's future looks great! While he offers tree services, this $100 tree consultation is independent of those offerings. There is no pressure to use him for those services. In fact, he gave me a tip on how to evaluate a potential vendor to see if they know what they're doing. I wish I could go back 10 years and hire Scott for a tree consultation! Another reviewer mentioned using these services as part of the home buying process, and I think that is a brilliant idea. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Scott. The experience I had was 5+ stars due to his complete honesty and helpfulness. Scott came to my home to provide a bid for some minor tree trimming we are needing. After discussing with me and educating me on the current state of our trees, he advised I call another smaller service provider because he didn't think his minimum fee (he has a crew of 4 who perform the work) would be justified in the amount of work they could perform. So he gave me a lot of wonderful advice and then told me it wouldn't be fair to me if he did the work due to his overhead costs and the relatively small amount of work I needed to be done. That still didn't stop him from giving me specific advice on each tree I asked about, and some great general advice on how to foster my trees development. He also gave me a very valuable nugget of info about a tree I have literally next to the sidewalk/street which is in VERY bad shape. He informed me that it is the City of Austin's responsibility to manage/remove that tree due to a 10 foot easement rule I had no idea existed. That alone would end up saving me literally hundreds ($500-800) in what I was expecting to be my problem to eventually remove that tree. It's rare to find someone so passionate about their career and caring about their customers, which in this case I really wasn't a customer. I would recommend Scott and Austin Beautiful Trees to anyone in need of a consultant or service provider, which he does both. I feel like not only did I learn a lot about trees, but my faith in humanity was literally boosted due to his kindred spirit. read more

They arrive on time, do expert work, and leave your trees and yard looking fantastic (including carefully cleaning up all clippings to the point where your patio is far cleaner than when they started). They also are willing to go above and beyond. During a consult and estimate, Scott noticed our owl box was facing somewhat north; he suggested we move it to face south. When he and his crew returned later to do the work, they hung the owl house for us, saving us from having to rent a ladder and climb 20 or so feet off the ground. He did a beautiful job trimming up and caring for our two giant oak trees, and his price was so reasonable. He and his crew worked quickly, cleaned up thoroughly, and even blew debris and leaves off of our roof for us. A few months later, I saw that he was installing owl houses for people as part of a spring tree trimming special. We decided to buy an owl house and asked him if he would install it for us, even though we didn't need the trees trimmed again. He came over right away, and refused to let us pay him for the work! I am a new homeowner and had no idea some of the things that came along with it, including keeping your trees maintained. After moving into our new house, I realized we had several dead branches on trees that needed pruning, and several other trees that needed to be removed entirely. I had another service come out prior to this one to give me an estimate. It was cheap, but I didn't feel that the person seemed very knowledgeable about trees. Once Scott came out, I knew immediately I had my man. Scott is so incredibly knowledgeable about trees and within minutes, I already knew more about proper pruning than 99% of homeowners. He took care not only to educate me about my trees and what they need, but also to help me plan for the future. Apparently our two large trees on our property do not have much time left and I would not have realized that without Scott's help. We bought our first house a few months ago (hooray!). Since there were a number of big trees on the property and one of them was a little worrisome, we called Austin Beautiful Trees to do an inspection before finalizing the deal. That turned out to be a fantastic decision. Scott is a incredibly friendly and knowledgeable guy. He identified every tree, told us how each was doing in detail, gave a bunch of maintenance advice and even pointed out some crazy specific details (one of our trees has frost damage from a cold snap in the 80s, etc.). The info has been SO useful, and the consultation was cheap! Basically, I'd highly recommend getting your trees inspected as part of the home-buying process in general and talking to Scott in particular. We haven't had them do any tree work for us yet, but after that experience, I'm sure we will. read more

Just had Austin Beautiful Trees trim a bunch of trees at my house. Before any actual trimming started, Scott came out and discussed each individual tree with us - explained a lot about tree growth, anatomy and structure, and then recommended certain cuts using his laser pointer to show us exactly what he meant. I really enjoyed learning a lot about my trees in the process. We got the work scheduled quickly and all was done within a week - all for a fair price.
