Beware!!!! We have used Austin Tree Surgeons twice now paying them over $30k for pruning of our very large pecan trees. We had a great experience the first time, but the second time was a different matter. Upon completion of the job, we were happy, but did not do an inspection of our roof. A couple months later, we realized that a tree branch had punctured our roof causing major leaking. We called our roofer to come take a look and they confirmed that it wasn't from a branch just falling as there are no trees around the area of the hole and there was no branch on the roof, but there were fresh cuts on a nearby tree. I realized that we'd had our trees trimmed a couple of months before. The roofer took pictures and repaired the roof. We have a tile roof and it had broken over 20 tiles and left a 10'' hole in the roof, but all that was left was a cut off portion of a branch. Upon contacting the owner of Austin Tree Surgeons, his response was that we had an old roof (which is not true - it's a tile roof that lasts a lifetime) and responded rudely through email basically saying you can't prove it! No phone call or site visit was made. I truly believe that a branch was dropped when they were removing it from the near by tree causing the damage......and then they just cleaned up their mishap. Obviously I can't prove that, but other professionals agreed that it didn't happen naturally. True - they trimmed our trees well, but if anything happens during that time, I wouldn't expect them to even make an attempt to make things right. I'm sure many people say this, but we have NEVER written a bad review for any service provider, but we felt it was necessary to let people know what they may be getting into when they hire Austin Tree Surgeons. I'm going to review today and finish review tomorrow as the project will be done tomorrow. I set up 6 different appointments to get bids for tree trimming. The trees were damaged during ice and hail storm with heavy branches damaging my truck. Several of the bidders were arborists working for companies specializing in trees. We also had other staining/projects for companies that provide those services. We were very impressed the the Arborist. She was excellent in seeing what needed to happen. The pricing was the best. For the tree trimming bids, 4 were between $308 and $359. Tree specialists gave the best bids and their expertise showed. With one exception the all care providers were very pricey including one bid for $695. The company that will do the staining/painting was 1/3 of the the highest bid. This company has been exceptional so far. I'll review again tomorrow with the results. If you're spending your money get numerous bids. The work is complete. Crew arrived, got the work complete, cleaned up all debris. Outstanding! read more

TLDR: Crew damaged our tree and management lacks integrity. I've used Austin tree surgeons in the past and received good service, however I recently had them back to my house to remove a large elm that was in bad shape from carpenter ants and to clean up a couple other trees. The arborist who initially came out was great and I do not fault her for this bad service. The crew that did the work was careless and disrespectful to our space and the other surrounding plants. The crew trampled plants in our easement as they were hauling off branches. After the crew left, we noticed that our fig tree (that was not anywhere close to the trees being serviced) had been split in half. This is a rare type of fig that we grew from a tiny start and was finally producing fruit. There is no reason that branches should have dropped near the tree, and the crew did not mention the damage. I complained to the company and was told that the fig tree would likely recover. I was asked by the arborist if I wanted to see if we could get a discount for this and I said yes. The discount that was offered to me was $50 off on a bill that is over $2,000. This is unacceptable. I will not use their services in the future and warn others of the management's lack of integrity. Update in response to management's post: This is the husband that the business owner referenced and attempted to put words in my mouth. I noted that the tree would "probably" recover. For reference it was not a limb, it was half the tree. And while fig trees are fast growing as the owner noted, this tree was a 3 year old specialty sourced variety of fig known as an Adriatic JH. The tree was grown from a small cutting over the last three years and management's offer to replace it with another fig tree is not realistic as sourcing this specific fig at this age is not possible. Instead of attempting to misconstrue the events, management would be better served by simply taking responsibility and honestly owning their mistake. read more

I couldn't be happier with the customer service with Austin tree surgeons. After contacting them on Tuesday for an estimate, an arborist came out on Wednesday to review my request and provide an estimate. On Thursday the crew came out and trimmed up both the specimen oak trees as well as the native oaks in the backyard as well as two fruit trees. Everybody was courteous, kind, and professional. The crew leader even checked in at the end of the service to make sure we were happy with everything and then made a few more cut on a couple of our trees on our request. Our magnolia tree looks like it could be dying or something wrong with it, holds sentimental value as my dog's ashes are in it. We had to remove a large (25 yr old) magnolia that sustained damage from URI. The large stump that was left needed to be removed to make room for a new tree. I contacted a few businesses before landing on Austin Tree Surgeons. I was able to schedule a time and day for stump removal and within a couple of days the stump was gone. The gentleman who did the work was on time and actually did the grinding in less time than he estimated. I would recommend this company to anyone needing tree services. Paul from Austin Tree Surgeons came out to do a quote. They were fairly priced for certified arborists and Paul understood my needs and requests. We then scheduled time for a number of weeks later for them to perform the work. Unfortunately it snowed the day they were supposed to come out so we rescheduled for later in the week. This is when the fun starts... Paul shows up with his "crew" and they walk the property with me to review the work. It was a full day job with a crew of 5 guys. Later in the day I went out front to grab the mail and noticed that the trucks with the crew that came to the house were branded A's Tree Service (https://www.yelp.com/biz/as-tree-service-austin-2)... This is when I became suspicious. I asked Humberto if he worked for Austin Tree Surgeons and he said he subcontracts for them. I thought that was a little strange, but I didn't have a problem with the work they were doing so I figured I would address it the following week (they came on a Friday). The following week my neighbor also had his trees trimmed said to me, "Hey I called the folks (A's Tree Service) that came to your house and they quoted be $X price." The price they quoted for a full day of work was 50% the cost of what I payed Austin Tree Surgeons. Mind you Austin Tree Surgeons didn't do the work they subcontracted it to A's Tree Service I called Brad (Owner) of Austin Tree Surgeons and asked him two things: 1) Because we didn't do a full trim on some trees because they were already looking thin does that affect the price? 2) Is it standard practice for Austin Tree Surgeons to subcontract the work to other tree trimming services, because that was never agreed to when speaking with Paul. Brad is about the least customer centric individual in Dripping Springs. He yelled, "We never subcontract work, we have our own crew and that I was surely confused and calling the wrong place." I told him that I have an invoice from Austin Tree Surgeons, but A's Tree Service did the work. He said he's never heard of them and that I am trying to tell him how to run his business, etc etc. Needless to say it was about 6 minutes of Brad being frustrated, yelling and not understanding that the work was subcontracted (potentially without his knowing). Additionally, he got super defensive and accused me of "not being from around here" because of my area code... What does that have to do with anything... I sent him pictures of the truck as proof I wasn't "lying to him." Turns out Paul had a crew not show up so he decided to use the a crew members brother's business (Humberto from A's Tree Service) to do the work at our house. Paul called to inform me he took $200 off because they didn't do a full trim on a clump of trees. This only made the markup 89% instead of the full 100% markup on the subcontractor. Learn from me... Go to Humberto at A's Tree Service and use his crew. They are efficient, cost effective (without Austin Tree Surgeons markup) and have an eye for well manicured oaks. One last thing... after Brad berated me for 10 minutes last week, he still has yet to call and/or email to apologize for the fact that his company did subcontract the work without his knowing. read more

We got several quotes for moss removal and light limb clearing for our home. Austin Tree Surgeons was the lowest bid. We were very impressed with the service. The team showed up in the morning, and swarmed our 4 very large live oaks. They moved quickly, and cleaned up after themselves very well. There was a discrepancy on the work order wherein the person drawing up the quote misremembered the number of trees that we had on the property, but after a phone call, they offered to honor the original price, which was generous of them. There was one more limb that I was pretty sure that we discussed with the arborist who came out to give the quote, but it was apparently also not on the work order, so the team that was out here did not cut it back. The arborist that came out seemed to be in a hurry when giving us the quote, and spent about 5 minutes with us, which I guess was not enough to understand all we were asking for. I think that may have led to some of the hiccups that we had with the work order. Overall, we were very happy with the service, and we will definitely call them again for future trimming and pruning. Even though there were problems with the work order, they were after all honorable enough to stick with the quote that they gave us. Coming back over a year later to say that there's still no better service to care for our trees. We are so pleased with the expertise ATS brings to our yard. A crepe myrtle that was almost dead a year ago is green and blooming once more, and another that was ill is thick with foliage. So my giant tree (about 100') out front has a fungus working it's way down its lowest branch & I read about what it was. Found something called Hypoxylon Canker & it can kill the tree if it gets to the trunk. This tree was a factor in us buying the house. It's huge and majestic and awesome so I got really worried because it's gonna be at the trunk in a month or so. Then it's curtains for the tree. I was concerned about finding the right people to help because I didn't want them to be like "O well, there's nothing we can do. Guess you better pay us to cut down your tree." Kind of like when you go to a mechanic or dentist they always find something wrong so they can get paid. So I looked up who had legit, certified arborists & seemed like they care and came to Austin Tree Surgeons. I left a message on a Sunday & within 15 mins of them opening on Monday, I got a call. We're also in the height of the pandemic, so I was unsure if I'd even get a response let alone one immediately. They sent Paul the next day & he was super helpful & knowledgeable. Definitely a legit expert that cared about saving the tree. We're under social distancing right now so when he got to the front yard and checked it all out he called me and we spoke on the phone & gave me the whole run-down. They're also really responsive when you call the office. Like 2 rings and they pick up. They even called back when I butt dialed them yesterday. Wrt to the tree, squirrels likely took a chunk out of the branch & then it spread from there. Paul gave me exactly how to fix it on my own complete with care instructions for after. Don't deal with this service. Unprofessional and unreasonable. I would look at other options. A check for the full amount of $150 was sent upon and was lost in the mail. I promptly paid when notified they had not received. Even after paid in full the vendor threatened to pull a lien on my home and go to court, called me a crook on top of other numerous insults. I work with many vendors and this is the only one I have had an issue with. Additionally, the vendor did not even notify me that they had visited my property. Brad is a jerk and someone I will never do business with again. An email trail of threats and insults can be posted if need be to prove.
