I had an oak tree in my front yard that died after Winter Storm Uri. I'd held off on removal hoping it would revive in time, but it never did. After the 2021 freeze we had a post oak that stopped budding at the ends of most of its limbs. We have been concerned about dead limbs falling but were hesitant to completely cut the tree down. We called Austin Tree Surgeons to have an arborist come out and help us to figure out the best way to care for the tree. They sent an arborist the next day- who confirmed the limbs were dead, but gave us hope that the tree could survive (at least for another few years!) Called Austin Tree with request for quote on 3 live oaks and 1 red oak tree at my Leander home. Had some concern about damage from winter freeze in 2020. Estimator came the same day and inspected the trees and explained the extent to the damage which was superficial. Gave me a quote for pruning which was below my expectation. Ordered service and was schedule in 3 days. Crew as well equipped, polite, efficient, and kept a clean work area in both my yard and that of my neighbors. I have an acre sized yard with a bunch of live oaks all over. I had a bunch of places come out and quote me on clearing it all. Given how expensive that can be (from 4,000-10,000 depending on the company), I also just wanted to some quotes on timing up the trees around he roof and taking out a couple of problematic trees. While Austin Tree Surgeons was on the expensive side for trimming everything compared to others, they are one of the only ones that segmented out the quote so that I could just go with the immediate need to clear the roof line until I'm ready to spend what it will take to do the full yard. They came out within a week of agreeing to go with them and had a crew of 4 or 5 guys that cleaned up the roof line and took out those 2 trees. Overall it took them a couple hours and they had me come out and show them the before and check the after before the left. I am happy with the service and ok with the price for what I got. Don't know that I'll go with them for the full clean up next year given how much higher their price for that is. read more

Update, for Brad. This appointment was made by my wife. Not going to give her name over a public server. I will add that after we where no showed. I was told by Jessica that she would call me back same day to tell me what went wrong. She first interns then blamed the arborist. No call back waited and called the next day at 2:30 pm. This time the woman that answered said that it was a different woman I talked to the day before and she was on lunch and would call me back. No call back to this point Brad. Finally both the phone numbers that I have called your office on my home number and cell number are blocked. I then used a neighbors cell phone to call your office and the call went thru. We have moved on with your company. But either you are playing a game and trying to look like you care or you don't know what is going on in your office and Jessica isn't being upfront with you. But to call your office from the two contact numbers I have used with your office staff and to get a automated message that the calls can't go thru then to borrow a friends phone and call 2 seconds later and the call goes thru. They announced their arrival but left without a word. They also put away 2 heavy planters but did NOT put them back. They left an empty, crumpled bottle water in the area where they worked, THOUGH the garbage/recycle bin was a few feet away. I'm very pleased I hired Brad and his team to prune the trees on our property. We have a mix: older, larger live oaks on the sides of the house, smaller live oaks in the front planted when the neighborhood was developed (10-15 years ago), and in the backyard, a youngish cedar elm and a very large, circular motte of old live oaks. The older trees were thinned out, cleaned up, and raised so no one has to duck around the yard any more. Same thing with the newer trees-- the beauty of the work with these, though, is that they now actually look like trees versus giant shrubs on a trunk. The brush was hauled away and the yard was left spotlessly clean. Aside from the great-looking trees, you wouldn't have known they were there. Everyone involved was a pleasure to deal with and they finished the job right at their very fair original estimate. Having professionals prune your trees can get a little spendy, but here in the land of oak wilt, I believe it's money well spent. Disease aside, the beauty of a job done correctly is worth the cost, too. I will hire Austin Tree Surgeons again and I recommend them without hesitation. read more

I am tired of getting wacked in the head. Seriously, how many times in one morning can I get hit in the head. The answer is a dozen. So with a pounding headache, I stop mowing my lawn to check Yelp for a tree trimmer. I bookmarked my choice and visited their site. I filled in the form to get a price estimate. By the next day, I had an email response. I told him that I had a large oak tree that needed trimming. It is nice that it blocks my view of the over the fence houses. Brad was able to come by the following day to look at my tree while I was at work. I only have one huge tree which in my backyard. My neighbors on both sides have trees that hang over into my property. Brad recommended trimming back the branches of my neighbor's trees so they don't touch my house. Over the phone he gave me a rough estimate of $500.00. I was taken back at the amount, so Brad told me to think about it and he will email me the detailed quote. I looked over the quote and most of the cost was for my Head Wacking tree. So I go for the whole package. I called Brad and told him to trim it all. He and his crew came the next day, and they emailed me an invoice. Very trusting but I guess they know where I live. The job they did was outstanding. My tree was thinned out and all the low hanging branches were gone. Even with this trim, it still blocked me from seeing my neighbor's house. That means I can continue nude sunbathing in my backyard. I never write reviews but felt the need to warn other customers. I received a bid from this company and asked several questions about it. Weeks after I asked them questions, they replied with vague answers, which should've made me walk away. I agreed to have them trim my trees but for some reason they decided to trim three of my six trees and charge me the full bid. On top of that the workers destroyed several plants in the process. But the poor workers!!! The workers, who were really stressed and overextended, told me they had to work another job the same day as mine and would be doing tough manual labor for more than 12 hours that day. Not only that but the company clawed back pay from them! The company actually made the workers pay them a couple hundred dollars from paychecks the company gave them. After the latest ice storm I had broken tree branches to my live oaks, and after receiving an estimate from one of the arborists I called to make arrangements for the trees to be cut and sealed, and asking if these could be taken care of by the end on the month (February). UPDATE: Wow, about 15 minutes after I posted this review. The supervisor called to threaten me. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with this company. The crew that was sent did not perform the job agreed upon due to miscommunication/language barrier. I spoke on the phone with the arborist who was short with me and was not willing to find a solution. I then spoke with a supervisor who noted that the problem was communication but then was unwilling to communicate with the crew to help them understand. If the problem is miscommunication, then the solution is communication. I'm extremely disappointed because I had made other appointments for services in my yard that were dependent on my trees being trimmed on the agreed upon day. Response to their reply: This information is completely false. I asked the crew to social distance and not touch my children's toys. There was a language barrier. The supervisor that called me told me he knew his workers were "not watching White House briefings everyday" and agreed that there was a lack of understanding but that the company couldn't force them to do the job. I recorded him saying this. I am a nurse and am well aware of guidelines. I have received emails, a text, and a phone call threatening me since I posted my negative review. We have called and had their certified arborists come out on 2 occasions to (free of charge btw) diagnose concerns we had. They were honest on whether or not it would be reasonable to treat the issue and what to do about the problem. We had them come out again to give a (free again) estimate on tree trimming as well. We have a large property and they broke it down in sections for the estimate. The crew they had come and do the job was incredibly industrious, thorough, respectful, and exceedingly careful of all the things that were in their way--string lights, a cabana, roofs, our pool, planting beds, bird baths, etc. They also cleaned up afterwards super well. These guys are incredible and the name of their company couldn't be more perfect. My whole interaction with them was outstanding and the job was very important to us because our entire house is built around 3 giant oak trees with all windows facing the trees. They were highly responsive to my outreach, super efficient at scheduling a consultation, and very communicative and prompt. They reviewed our large oak trees professionally and thoroughly, listened well to our needs of trimming a large branch that was leaning onto our roof, and also suggested trimming deadwood with rationale that I trusted and did not believe was salesy. They day they came, they were awesome: they were extremely efficient, extremely thorough in removing all deadwood, took a lot of care to protect our house while trimming, they were very strong at making decisions to ensure the highest aesthetics of the trees were maintained (they even cleaned up the neighbor's bad trim of our tree that went into their yard), they took good care of the trees themselves to prevent future fungus growth, and they were meticulous at cleaning up all branches, leaves, and every last acorn from our property before leaving. Like a lot of other people in Austin, one of my live oak trees died in last year's freeze. I followed the recommendation from the Texas forestry service and waited to see if it would leaf out. Well, here it is winter again, and not a leaf on it. I applied for a permit from COA to take it down and started calling tree companies for estimates, and by the time COA issued the permit, I'd selected Austin Trees Surgeons to take it down. I got estimates from 6 companies. Worth the extra effort because the top and bottom bids were $8k apart. Austin Tree Surgeons was not the lowest, but I was concerned with more than price. I wanted a reputable company that had its business filings in order because this was a MASSIVE tree and I was concerned about liability in case something went wrong. Insurance issued in the name of a company that isn't incorporated and has never been listed on the Secretary of State's website as an entity or DBA (assumed name) might or might not pay out, y'know? Well, I'm happy I hired ATS. They showed up with a large crew and not only was that tree down safely by the end of the day without incident or injury to anyone, but other than the sawdust, they left my yard cleaner than when they arrived. They accommodated requests from some of my neighbors to leave some of the wood to cut up for firewood and the crew were all really pleasant and respectful of me, the neighbors, and my property. I cried to have to take this magnificent tree down (stressful experience for sure), but the company was great to work with and I was happy to pay the bill. Job well done. I had these folks out to a rental property of mine in Pemberton Heights. When compared to the 3 other quotes I got from competing tree trimmers, they were well under Davey's and competitive with the other two. I decided to go with them because the owner seemed down to earth and I had heard good things about them from a couple of people I know. They removed 4 large 12-24" diameter trees, cleared up a huge chevy tahoe-sized pile of brush, and did some routine trimming on the house. Needless to say, it was a couple of day job. I was out of the state while they were working on the house, but according to the tenant they did a good job throughout the process. Since its been a month or two since they were at the house, I would say the collateral damage from this many large trees coming down was quite minimal. Overall, nothing much was damaged. Overall, this company passed muster. Ill probably be having them out to do my primary residence later in the year. read more

I had an oak tree in my front yard that suffered some damage after the freeze in February, but that still had some green to it, so I wanted to try to save it. One of their arborists came by, gave me a free estimate the same day, and got me on the schedule the following week. They trimmed it and gave it an antifungal infusion in hopes to try to save the tree. They were cheaper than some of the other landscape companies (that didn't have an arborist) that I had to come bid out the work, and they were much more prompt than the other arborists who I spoke with, who couldn't even come look until January.
