I had the hot turkey sandwich, which was fine, but the mashed potatoes were very thin and I think they'd been watered down a little, the green beans were completely unseasoned, and the gravy was that neon-yellow kind that I hadn't had in 30 years and only ever saw in school cafeterias. Honestly, after eating here, I understand the business strategy. They hand you a Styrofoam plate and basically send you off into the wilderness. No real table service. Just you, your foam plate, and the consequences of your decisions. The food was edible at best--and by "edible," I mean if there were a zombie apocalypse, every grocery store had been looted, and this buffet was humanity's final food supply, I could probably make it work. Everything seemed to have two seasoning settings: 1. Absolutely nothing. 2. SALT. The hot and sour soup apparently forgot half of its job description. Hot? Yes. Salty? Absolutely. Sour? Missing. Presumed dead. Then I went looking for the salad bar. There wasn't one. Lemons? Nope. Desserts? Oh, they had dessert. THREE glorious choices: vanilla pudding, pineapple that was somehow sour enough to do the hot-and-sour soup's job, and watermelon that tasted like it had heard rumors about flavor but had never personally experienced it. I'm not kidding. That was it. And those pictures online??? WHOSE RESTAURANT IS THAT?! Because I would like directions to THAT place. What I saw online and what I walked into felt like two entirely different establishments. At some point, I accepted that the food itself wasn't going to save me, so I thought, "Fine. I'll drown it in sauces and lemon." I asked the woman working there, "Do you have any lemons?" "NO." Not "Sorry, we're out." Not "Unfortunately, no." Just: NO. And off she went. Ma'am, I wasn't asking for the deed to the building. I just wanted a lemon. Then there was the cleanliness. The table had technically been wiped, but somehow remained sticky. The walls had dried sauce splatters and crusty smears that looked like they had achieved historical-landmark status. And THEN I went to the bathroom. Mistake. The faucet felt so grimy/slimy that washing my hands somehow felt like it might make them dirtier. That faucet needed prayer, degreaser, and possibly an exorcism. As far as staffing went, the same woman seemed to be cashier, server, and basically the entire front-of-house operation. I saw one other guy emerge from the kitchen once, just long enough to confirm there was, in fact, another human being in the building. There was zero warmth. Zero friendliness. Zero "How is everything?" Probably for the best, because I had answers. When we finished, she did say "thank you," but didn't look up or smile. At that point even a cheerful "Thanks for coming!" would've earned this place half a redemption point. And THAT is what really got me. Bad food can sometimes be forgiven if the people are wonderful. A small selection can be forgiven if everything is fresh and tasty. Being short-staffed is understandable. But bad food + questionable cleanliness + no hospitality? Y'all gave me NOTHING to work with. I came hungry and left with a story. If I could give zero stars, I'd at least consider it--but unfortunately Google has standards even when the buffet doesn't.
