I ordered the mushroom tomato pie and we split an order of carrot fries. The savory herb scone was good and I would definitely seek that out again. The carrot fries were also good and I appreciated that they still had a nice bit of crunch to them. The tomato pie itself, however, was a bland disappointment. We had a short wait, as it was a busy weekend. We quickly ordered. The food was delicious. The coffee service was slow. Quite disappointed on my last visit that I updated my review. Coffee continues to be amazing but the food just fell flat. Their signature "tomato pie" filling was quite boring and lacked flavor, the "flipper" or omelet was the smallest omelet I've ever had for $8+ and it didn't even taste like an $8+ omelet, I could've made that at home and I suck at making omelets. The side salad was literally 7 pieces of lettuce...that's it. The other people in my party received completely incorrect orders, on the flip side management was extremely understanding and we were comped. All this subpar food (at best) and waited an hour for our food (which was mostly incorrect), waited far too long to be seated in an empty restaurant, and waited an hour + for toast which was obviously missed and upon pointing out the mistake our waitress was snooty, no thanks. The ambiance is nice, the niche retro vibe is enjoyable, but I can't eat the decor, or taste the quality interior design. There is a pretentious quality to the menu that the flavors simply do not match. It seems like there is more time spent making something sound good then actually making the food taste good.Make the food first and describe it second, do not do it the other way around. If you have amazing food quality then your kitchen can be inflexible about substitutions or replacements. However, if the combinations do not work, and a request is made to omit something it should be accommodated without indignation or attitude. This isn't French Laundry or Quince. It is mind blowing your kitchen says it can't substitute a pretzel roll for a bagel. Just say it won't and be done with it. If you are going to be that rigid about a sandwich at least ensure you execute it properly. What restaurant doesn't know how to vent the yolk of eggs on a sandwich to ensure the yolk doesn't bleed everywhere. This is food 101. You can't execute this common cooking technique, and you refuse to substitute the type of bread? Ridiculous. I am also aware I don't need to come here, and on my own volition I never would, but sadly my wife can overlook the food catastrophe's because the ambiance IS enjoyable. Someday, hopefully, the food catches up. I don't think you want your customers leaving thinking that sandwich was edible when compared to an egg mcmuffin. We visit this place whenever we visit Lititz; usually more than once per trip. They have really great breakfasts; I had the French toast and ordered two eggs over medium. I usually just hope for not super runny eggs, but this place actually nailed the request for over medium perfectly. Their tomato pies are delicious too. Definitely recommend the mushroom one. We went one day for breakfast and then twice more for lunch. The servers are very friendly, the atmosphere is charming, and Lititz Springs Park is right across the street, so you can take a lovely walk after your meal. Can't beat it. read more

This used to be one of my favorite cafe's, until my last visit. Our waitress was beyond rude as soon as we were sat in her area. We watched her tell all of the other tables the specials for the day, check on them to see if they needed anything and ask how their food was. Not once did she check on us or ask how our food was. She took our order and the next time she came to our table was to drop the check off. I wish I knew her name so that I wasn't discrediting all other staff members. Ate at Tomato Pie Cafe in Lititz today. Have to say the service was great. It's been a couple of years since I've been to Tomato Pie Cafe. I was so looking forward to having a piece of the delicious tomato pie that I had a few years ago. That didn't happen. The recipe has drastically changed, and not for the good! My tomato pie today was average at best, with chopped tomatoes, and cheesy topping in a pie crust, that's it. There was not much seasoning. The flavor of the tomato pie was overpowered with the use of too much Rosemary. The portion size was extremely small. The pie I had years ago had sliced in-season tomatoes and onions in a flaky pie crust, an obvious balance of seasoning and herbs, with the most delicious mayonnaise and cheese topping that you can imagine, loaded with flavor! I did not get that flavor today at all. It came with a small amount of fresh greens with no salad dressing. There was a bottle of white balsamic house dressing on the table for everyone to use, and that was the only dressing the waitress offered. Something about the fresh greens tasted odd. Don't know if the lettuce was spoiled or if it was never washed and perhaps it was a preservative taste that turned me off. Oh, and they put a small, very dry scone on the plate with my tomato pie, and no butter was offered. I was so disappointed that I came home and looked up tomato pie recipes online and decided I'm going to cook a delicious Tomato Pie myself, use sliced quality tomatoes, add some sliced onions and fresh herbs, seasonings, mayonnaise, a combination of cheeses including cheddar cheese, Jack cheese, and quality grated Parmesan. I'm wondering if there's a new chef or new owners at Tomato Pie Cafe in Lititz, if so, it's a shame that they changed the recipe, and appear to be cutting corners in several areas. My suggestion is go back to the original tomato pie recipe. If you put some fresh greens on a plate, either dress the lettuce before serving it or offer customers a variety of salad dressings. Adding a couple of grape tomatoes and slice or two of cucumber would be an inexpensive way to turn a few green leaves into a nice Small side salad for your customers. If you serve scones, serve a pat of butter or Jam on the side because scones are very dry. You seem to be missing the boat on what customers want which is good food, good service. Simple! The sad thing is you used to provide that at your restaurant, so what happened? This was a real disappointment. read more

I was super excited to try this cute little place. The name of it just made me want to go not to mention the adorable house it is in! I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I just can't. We ordered the kids rainbow grilled cheese which that is definitely a 10/10. Super cute and fun for my daughter to eat. I ordered the Mac and cheese with tomato soup. The tomato soup is out of this world but the Mac and cheese is a 7/10. It's very oily and kind of hard. My mom ordered the tomato pie. That was very disappointing. More mushrooms then there were tomatoes. Nothing is seasoned so it's very bland. The butternut squash with chicken and goat cheese on a flatbread is not good. It was very mushy and the chicken is plain. No salt or pepper or anything. The flatbread was not cooked at all. I really wanted this to be sooo good but it wasn't. Their grilled cheese for adults is also boring. It's not buttery and delicious like how a grilled cheese should be. It's just cheese and bread. No butter nI think out of everything we had the soup and kids rainbow grilled cheese were the best things on the menu. Oh and almost forgot. The server wasn't that great. She was kind of rude and not very pleasant. She seemed like she hated us and everyone in the restaurant. We are part the service industry so we know all about bad days but We didn't ask for anything special, we didn't complain about the food at all to her and we were very nice to her. I'll begin by saying that our food was excellent. WHEN WE FINALLY GOT IT. 50 minutes waiting for our breakfast. At 9:50 on a Sunday morning, they were out of English Breakfast tea. Really??? Ordered meal right away; including two scones with thought of eating them first. But not only did they not come first, they never came at all. However, we were charged for them. Waitress "checked on us" 3/4 of way through our meal. At that time I asked for a refill on my iced tea (which I had in lieu of non-available English Breakfast hot tea) and I NEVER GOT IT. It was 1:10 when we ordered. There was no word from the waitress as to why the food wasn't being delivered- it was not overwhelmingly busy- maybe normal late lunch crowd. But the waitress not stopping to check on us or explain the delay was unacceptable. We walked out after 45 minutes and are down the street getting a slice of pizza. Overall, a fun little hole in the wall with delicious, homemade food. We got the tomato pie when we went, which did not disappoint. Along with plenty of veg options, homemade quiches and soups, this place also had a full coffee menu, from which I got a macchiato. Everything was awesome and service was impeccable. The kids menu is great - kid appropriate without going to processed food - the mac and cheese was 'home-made' not blue box. I had the eggs/tomato pie entree - awesome. Where they get fresh tomatoes in December is beyond me but they were flavorful not winter bland. 1-14-2013: Update to add one more thing the Tomato Pie must fix. The bathrooms are laughably small. You have to see them to believe them. The Men's room is almost too small for me to close the door behind me. No, I'm not THAT big! This is an issue, because not only are they far too small for able bodied customers, but they are simply not handicapped accessible. On a weekday around 3pm last week, I watched a woman with a walker attempt to use the Ladies room. Long story short, she couldn't get in. Imagine the problems this brings up. They must fix this issue. I'm actually lowering my revue by one star because of this and the continued lack of service on the part of the wait staff. read more

I was biking through Southeast PA last summer, and before the trip with my friend, I stumbled across this place on Yelp. This cafe was so hyped, I insisted this was to be our lunch stop during that day's ride from Lancaster to Pine Grove. I wanted one thing, and one thing only, Tomato Pie. I'm just amazed that something I had already hyped up for days leading up to this portion of our ride, had actually SURPASSED my expectations!
