If I had to pick a "comfort spot" in Lancaster County, Zig's would win every time. This place is one of my favorite lunch stops, the kind where you walk in already knowing exactly what you're ordering because it never misses. I get the tuna melt every single time, and listen... their tuna is unreal. Perfectly seasoned, not too mayo-heavy, toasted just right it's basically my emotional support lunch at this point. I also never skip the seasonal drink special. Today's was the apple chai-der and it was so cozy and delicious. Their drink specials always feel like you're sipping the current season through a mug. Zig's also has an entire cooler/freezer wall packed with soups, applesauce, and grab-and-go meals. My all-time favorite soup is the Tomato Pepper Jack absolutely phenomenal. If you see it, grab two. Trust me. The bakery case? Dangerous. Cupcakes, pies, whoopie pies, parfaits... it's basically dessert heaven behind glass. And then there's my holy grail: the Buffalo Cauliflower. It's a rare find, and when I spot it I buy it in full apocalypse-prep quantities. No regrets. Between the rustic vibe, great coffee, incredible baked goods, and comfort-food lunches, Zig's is one of those places you keep coming back to because it just feels good and tastes even better. Yesterday I bought a small shepherds pie for dinner plus ham balls for tonight's dinner. The chicken noodle soup is in the fridge for this weekend. My husband ate almost the entire shepherds pie by himself...he was hungry and it's good. I just finished eating a chocolate mint cupcake that was so tasty. Their chocolate croissants are fabulous as well. Service was friendly and speedy yesterday. I was there at 4pm so I have found they are less busy at that time of day when I want to buy things to take home. If I lived closer to Zig's I would probably be there more often, but as it is, I am still thankful it's only a 30 minute drive from my home. read more

The upstairs is a large hall that can be rented for special events. They also have a breakfast and lunch menu. The bakery is only 20 minutes from "The Amish Village," if planning to visit. After the event, I visited the bakery and got a smoothie and rice crispy treat because it's my guilty pleasure. I visited the Lancaster location and had to try the famous scones. There were 4 flavors available (blueberry, cheddar kale, cranberry orange and apple cinnamon). The employee said blueberry was the best seller and cheddar kale was her favorite. I ordered everything but the cranberry orange. Very fresh, flavorful, and soft! If you like hard scones, this is the complete opposite. These scones are more like a biscuit. Flaky and soft. All flavors were delicious but I think my favorite was also the savory cheddar kale! I'd highly recommend ordering from here and trying the other goodies they have! read more

I want to love Zigs; it seemingly has everything a person could want in a bakery - freshly baked bread on racks (when you walk in), the beautiful display of cupcakes, danishes, eclairs, tarts, scones, croissants, sweet loaves, decorated sugar cookies And a light menu of sandwiches, salads - coffees, assorted beverages, a deli case and frozen foods. Why the two stars, you wonder; it's the taste factor. It's never there for me and I've visited Zigs, several times. The frosting on their cupcakes, tastes like butter (nothing remotely chocolate) and the cake itself, lacking in moistness, this I found similar in their banana bread and other sweet loaves. Unfortunately, I have been displeased with several of Zig's offerings. I believe this can happen, if there are too many products offered - shortcuts are taken, reflecting on taste/quality. read more

I decided to stop in here for the first time and I was not disappointed! There's an abundance of different kinds of foods. I purchased an iced caramel latte and scones (blueberry & lemon poppy seed). On my first visit here, loved this place for the atmosphere and variety of food. It's big with plenty of seating, yet very cozy, good place to get work done, read or meet with friends. Just had coffee and a baked good... Huge selection of homemade goods. Second time discovered the ready made foods, hade a kale and sesame salad that was fantastic. Nice selection of ordinary picnic food favorites and a few not so usual options. There is also a counter that offers made to order sandwiches and bfast items, all looks really good, AND the prices are really reasonable. I eat out alot and for the quality of this food and the atmosphere, I give them credit for not taking advantage of their customers and jacking prices as high as they can. So refreshing!! The only disappointment I had was the coffee in their self serve carafes was cold. BUT the staff was super responsive and helpful (got me a hot cup), apologized, and immediately began brewing fresh. Like I said, I eat out alot and all too often, especially with the younger generation, staff are not professional and display an uncaring attitude when confronted with sub par service. I don't know what I would do without Zig's! They're in my neighborhood and make life 1000x easier with a newborn. I love being able to walk over for a coffee, delicious treat, or lunch. My favorite menu items are the baked oatmeal, seasonal coffee specials, whoopie pies, green salads, and sandwiches. The staff are so friendly. My first experience was not what I was expecting. But I want to give it another try. So this could turn into a 5 Star once I get back to try additional items. Why I am giving it a two star right now is due to the lack of flavor my ham and broccoli quiche had. There was two tiny pieces of ham and 3 tiny pieces of broccoli and a side of gross dressing for the salad greens. Completely no flavor at all. And it was such a tiny piece. I thought it was great that they had so many quiche selections to pick from though. On a positive note, their prices are really good. I also liked their homemade chips. I have only ever visited their stand at Central Market. It's always been one of, if not my favorite stand for baked goods. I placed a pie order and was overwhelmed with goodies while I waited for my pies. The cafe is quaint, cozy, and filled with all of your sweetest desires. I ordered the Pumpkin, Peach, Pecan, and Apple pies. They were still warm and looked picturesque! I bought a few varieties of cookies for my office and they didn't last very long. I used to drive past Zigs all the time and always say that I wanted to stop in. I am so mad how long it took me to finally do so!!! It is wonderful!! I am obsessed with their vanilla chai latte so haven't really tried any other coffee options yet but definitely get it if you live chai! They have a ton of bakery options... cupcakes, cookies, pies, etc... all delicious! We finally ordered lunch one day and I got a grilled cheese and it was top-notch. You can tell everything is definitely freshly made. Finally, they have a ton of packaged items you can purchase as well, all locally made! SO happy that I was introduced to this place and come almost everyday during the week for either lunch or a quick coffee! They have plenty of parking and offer outdoor seating in addition to indoor seating. It's absolutely beautiful inside and out! They offer a wide variety of baked goods, which are on my to try list. They also have a "deli" spot that offers chicken salad, egg salad, and sides. They have great coffee and make either hot or cold. Their menu is good but I do feel like they could add a few more items whether it's salads, wraps or even sandwiches. They have great tuna salad which I've gotten multiple times over the course of two weeks. Their grilled cheese and tomato soup were excellent as well. I think overall it's a great little spot. The prices are right on par with the amount of food you get. I highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

Ordering is confusing because some stuff you bring to the counter for check out and some stuff you have to order and then there is the self-serve stations for drinks after you purchase your cups. It seems like it took them forever to take my order. The dealbreaker was the chicken salad sandwich. The chicken itself had been pummeled into mush. No chunks or shreds. It was SO SWEET it tasted like a piece of pie.! Honestly inedible. If I was diabetic, it would've been really dangerous. I have never encountered sugar in chicken salad in my 60 years of life. Grapes? Raisins? Yes-but straight up sugar? (This was confirmed when I asked about it and my fella agreed it was way too sweet.) I'm pretty sure there was sweet relish in there too. When I took it to the counter and respectfully asked for my money back on a sandwich I only took two bites out of, he just walked off without a word and left me standing there. No, "I'm so sorry. I'll be right back" or anything. I would've been happy with the offer of a different sandwich even. I left and was starving by the time I got to dinner. Upside is the decor is homey and it was very clean. I also appreciated the sweet young lady who wiped our table down so we could eat outside with our dog. The cold brew was excellent. read more

I ordered a coconut custard pie for Thanksgiving dinner and it was much less than we expected. This pie is my husband's favorite and when he cut a slice he was very disappointed to say the least. I have to say the pie looked very decadent but when he cut a slice, it was nothing more than a layer of what tasted like instant coconut pudding with a layer of might have been whipped cream. There was toasted coconut sprinkled on top. I hope the Zigs bakers read this review and sharpen their knowledge of what coconut custard pie really IS!! Asked if our order was coming up and they simply replied, "It should be coming up." Moved to Lititz from New York last summer and this place has been a staple in my life since. Always fresh, delicious food, pastries, and drinks. They have seasonal specialities too! The interior is comfy and welcoming, the employees are always friendly, and the ambience is just A+. Food portions aren't huge but are certainly filling enough, and prices are decent. Money has been a little rough for me recently, but if I could afford it, I'd visit Zig's every day! Also, they have some of their own merch- mugs and some light apparel, and I love that! read more

Maybe I am partial to historical settings, coffee and baked goods, but Zig's has it all going on. It's breakfast or lunch or a snack in between. It's a great place to meet friends. It has excelllent food offerings. It has coffee. Located in the downstairs of a renovated barn, Zigs has deli offerings, breakfast sandwiches, deli sandwiches, and deli foods. Today's purchase included sausage quiche, a blueberry scone, a baked oatmeal to go, and a coffee for $8. Upon realization that I left lunch at home, a chicken curry salad followed me out the door. All excellent. All 5 or so of my visits to Zig's have been excellent, and I anticipate my next 50 will be equally relaxing. Nothing beats a relaxing breakfast out, and Zig's fits the bill. read more

I stop at their stand for baked goods at the Central Market. I absolutely love their lemon cake. It is thee best I've ever had. Usually lemon cakes either have too much lemon taste or too much sweet taste. Zig's manages a perfect balance that doesn't make your lips pucker like you're eating something too sour. This cake seriously deserves an award. Just writing about it makes me crave it. Update: stopped at the Lititz location. So many goodies to choose from. Still, best lemon cake ever! Positive vibes and the aroma of fresh bread hits you right when entering this gorgeous restored barn. Baked goods for miles, prepared salads/soups and a hot food menu draw you in to the shop area. I'm partial to the Focaccia Turkey pesto sandwiches or the Curry Chicken Salad. The spacious seating area makes Zigs the prime spot for studying, working, or chatting with a special someone. Already having plans to go on a walk with my sister and her 2 twins, I decided to manipulate the route so that our ultimate destination would be Zigs. So we headed out from Crosswinds, stopped by Plum street to pick up grandma, and continued to walk out the trail in pursuit of some dinner. I had heard about this place a few times just before heading their myself. The most recent heads up was from my aunt who had told me that morning she was going to try them for breakfast. By the time we had already left, she finally got back to me saying the building was nice, but they aren't quite ready for business yet. Sure they were open, but they still had a lot of kinks to work out before the grand opening in May (2015); a bit understaffed and disorganized. This is mind, I am going to tailor my review accordingly. When we finally arrived, I had to agree with my aunt; this is a very nice establishment. It's very spacious, with a mix of country and elegance. The downstairs leads into the eatery, and the upstairs looks like it will be used for receptions. There is a lot of nice woodwork and I believe there is more to the complex than we explored. As far as a storefront, this place very much reminds me of Panera bread. They offer a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches to be followed by an assortment of pastries and other dessert. Like Panera, all of the bread is made in-house so there is some great potential here for a stand alone bakery even. You have the option to dine in or take out, and they also state they cater. Overall the food was pretty good. We had sandwiches. They were stacked plenty full, though the plate did seem a little bare with no greens or chips being offered. But you do get a pickle and it's a good one. Honorable mentions would be the smoothies and the soup (which was so good we took some home with us), but this place has a long way to go in terms of a restaurant.
