Is it traditional Mexican food? Nope. Is it delicious? YES! Tomatillo is a farm to table restaurant that serves some of the best TexMex in the area. Their occasional Tacos Al Pastor are mind-blowing, just as everything else on their menu. It doesn't hurt that they mix an exceptional margarita. Tomatillo is pretty awesome- Great, local beer selection- They use super fresh ingredients, you can seriously taste just how fresh everything is- a little light on flavor, if you're used to heavily seasoned texmex food. The brunch is great, for 11 bucks you get a few choices, skirt steak burrito being one of them- really great flavor and quality steak. and Huevos Rancheros - here they are so good- I kid you not, probably the best in Westchester. The brunch comes with a cocktail- Tequila Sunrise, or Bloody Mary- the Tequila Sunrise is good, but the Bloody Mary is quite salty. Overall this place is great. read more

I'm floored as to why some people have given this place poor ratings! I've decided that those people are just grouchy and were in bad company. They wouldn't know a great spot if it bit them in the you know what. That being said, this place is AWESOME!!!! I've worked at the school down the street and would spend my lunch breaks there. It was quick service and always great food. Not to mention, it was kind to my wallet. The chips and salsa are made with local and fresh ingredients as all their dishes are. I always leave full and satisfied. I once suggested it for a date night. Perfection. He loved the cocktail list and the picture of margaritas. Not to mention how cozy it was with the exposed brick, it really added to the ambiance. Our server was very helpful. I could not make up my mind with the fish or beef taco. I went for the fish and cannot wait to get it again. We had no leftovers, which is a shame that I couldn't enjoy my food again, but it was portioned just right. Luckily, we made reservations because it did get very busy. We were a little close to other patrons, but when you are in good company, who really cares?! I will suggest this place to anyone. Keep in mind to make a reservation during a weekend night and realize it is a small place, so the place does get a bit cramped. read more

This place is best when tomato's are in season and their salsa is right on point! Every time we go, we are happy! The Cilantro Pesto sauce is my favorite with a pork burrito. They also have a teachers happy hour which I think goes from 4 - 7 which I found to be clever. Staff is always very nice and food is always hot and fast. read more

I've been a Tomatillo loyalist since they opened, but my recent experience has me thinking otherwise. I talked my co-workers into placing a lunch order (no they don't deliver) so we picked out our various lunch specials and I hopped in my car to bring the best Mexican around back to my office. The lunch specials are around $6 and come with chips and salsa. Supposedly. We had four separate orders and got just one half-full paper bag of chips to share among us. Kind of a let down, but this isn't the worst of it. My fish tacos. Corn-meal breaded pieces of fish sitting on a tortilla x2. Some tomatillo sauce spooned on top. THAT WAS IT. I'm not sure if I was supposed to specify that lettuce, tomatoes, onion, normal taco accompaniments should have been included, but they were not. Similarly my office partner-in-crime's burrito was closer to egg-roll size. 30 minutes after eating we went out for more food. The tiny portions wouldn't last anyone until dinner. read more

I'll add my two sense as to why its even that much better: THE BEER SELECTION - 3x taps of craft beer (one is capn law freshchester pale ale, the other two are seasonal) and about 15 craft bottles ready to be popped. The food was very tasty and they have a lot of good burrito options. I really like that they source their ingredients locally (if possible) and list where their meats are from. The restaurant/table arrangement is pretty crowded, though, especially by Westchester standards, and the service was good but not great. We had to ask them for more water, they never asked if we wanted another drink when our glasses were empty, and they didn't keep track of who ordered which dish. I also didn't like that when we arrived with a reservation for 4, they sat us at a table near the door and in a busy walking area. I asked for a another table for 4 towards the back that was empty and they said that was reserved for another party, who had a reservation at the same time as us. When that party arrived about ten minutes later, I'm 99.9% sure they didn't request that specific table based on their conversation as they walked by our table on the way to theirs. I think the hostess should have honored our request to switch tables considering that our reservations were for the same time, we arrived first and the other party would not have known the difference. It's kind of petty, but it's something most nice restaurants would do and it started me off on the wrong foot. All in all, the food was very good, which is the most important part, and we had a nice meal. While the service could have been better, I'd still go back. read more

Tomatillo bills itself as a "Mexchester Original"-- which pretty much says it all. The menu has basic Mexican fare, including burritos, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, guacamole, and chili, but with an eye to Westchester tastes: they get produce from Stone Barns (as in Blue Hill) and meats are all-natural. The place itself is tiny but cute, brightly colored with a big bar, and portions are pretty big for the price (though you will find yourself paying extra for various sides) and the excellent quality of the ingredients is definitely noticeable. A friend and I stumbled upon this place while looking for nearby food after leaving another friend's. The menu had all the usual suspects at a Mexican restaurant, but so much within each section. From vegan options to the standard items and many add-ons, the selection was diverse enough for all to find something they enjoyed. I kept it basic with the Super Nachos - full of adequately layered cheese, guacamole and chili. That in itself was a meal, as are many nacho dishes in my experience. I also had the Oaxacan burrito, which was big, hearty and full of flavors. I particularly appreciated this because at some locations, tacos, quesadillas and burritos can be sloppily put together with a very little amount of ingredients. The service was attentive and our waitress answered a couple questions in more detail than needed, but helpful. It is a very cramped environment, but aside from that minor inconvenience, this was a great little spot with solid food and service. read more

I absolutely LOVE it here. Although small, the atmosphere at Tomatillo is very relaxing. It is bright and modern inside, filled with funky local art, and good music is always playing. The staff there is always friendly and never slow. A huge (and custom if you'd like) burrito for less than ten dollars is great for lunch or dinner. Their fresh tomatillo sauce is chilled and like no other I've ever had- it's extremely refreshing. I always get the Green Machine burrito now, but I also enjoy Brown Baggin' It. They have many vegetarian options. There are only two desserts on the menu and my favorite is the chocolate chipotle torte with cilantro-mint ice cream, very unique and very delicious. ONLY CON: It can get very crowded, especially on weekend nights, so it is wise to get there early or prepare to wait a good forty minutes. The food here is GREAT! The service..ehh not so much. Some coworkers and I have been here a few times and I have never had too much of a bad experience. Some small things have annoyed me like the fact that their were no crayons at the table n when I asked for some my waiter forgot about it and never brought them and the lemonade that I ordered was disgusting..did not taste like lemonade at all so I then swapped it out for a ginger ale which tasted like carbonated dirty mop water. I have not had an alcoholic beverage from them so I can't comment on that. However the atmosphere is very "creative" and you find a lot of things that catch your eye. Tomatillo is one of my favorite spots in Westchester and, while it's not perfect, it has a ton of things going for it: Cheap lunch specials, fresh ingredients (brought in from Stone Barns), unlimited chips and freshly made salsa (the best I've had around here), and a wide selection of made-to-order burritos. (Side Note: The salsa is so good, in fact, that I will go there just to get a quart of it to bring home) Two of my favorites on the extensive burrito menu are the Chicken Club (Rotisserie chicken, chorizo sausage, rice, pinto beans, jack cheese, and tomatillo sauce) and the Mister Shrimp (Marinated shrimp, jalapenos, rice, pinto beans, and roasted red pepper sauce). One cool thing is that, while the burritos generally run around $10.95, you can choose to have them custom make one exactly like any of your favorites as part of the $5.95 lunch special. Now I don't know about you, but a freshly made burrito with unlimited chips and salsa for $5.95 sounds like an absolute steal. It can get a little crowded and parking can be tough at certain times of day but if you are a fan of fresh Mexican food, it's definitely worth making the trip to Dobbs Ferry to check it out. read more

I went to this place maybe 7 months ago and I wasn't thrilled, but I recently went back for the margaritas and was pleasantly surprised by how great the food was! I got the three vegan tacos and I shared the vegan nachos with my husband and we loved them! I also got a prickly pear margarita which was probably my favorite part, although everything was so tasty. Came here with my husband on a Friday night and joined a few friends - the food was fine, however the drinks were HORRIBLE! The Red Sangria tasted like water, if you want a GREAT! Sangria go to Sonora, in Port Chester, NY - nothing could compare to their Sangria and FOOD! They attempted to make a Margarita, but fails again, it tasted like a Whisky Sour! We made the waiter take it back. Honestly, stick with Beer, they can't screw that up. We are NEVER, coming back here, too many other good restaurants to try, besides the food was Ok, I had better Mexican food. Place inside is small not large, the bar area is ok. Not worth the trip. What happened ? This was my go-to in Dobbs Ferry for dinein, take out and margarita night. The menu change was a major misstep. There are no new items just things are taken away. Like my favorite black bean burger ! I went last Thursday, excited for my $5 marg, and they raised that to $7! My boyfriend and I ended up walking out and going across the street after the bartender ignored us for 15 minutes without even acknowledging us sitting in front of her. What a shame ! read more

I ordered takeout from Tomatillo yesterday, and the young man who was behind the bar was so helpful and polite. The food was pretty good, except there was quinoa in my burrito bowl which was unexpected because it didn't mention quinoa anywhere on the menu. My only real complaint was that when I went in to pick up my food, the place was boiling hot! I feel bad for the staff, I could barely make it 10 minutes. Maybe invest in some air conditioning? Westchester is the home of various great restaurants worth going to- Tomatillo is one of them. Consistently a great experience here! When I don't feel like sitting down, I order pickup (every time will get a generous amount of guac). Always always always get my burrito in a bowl. If you usually get a table here, try a few drinks at the bar out, you won't be disappointed. It's a versatile restaurant that can either be intimate, or a place where I take my nieces and nephews. Finally a good restaurant in lower westchester! I just moved to white plains from Williamsburg, Brooklyn so I've been spoiled with amazing food for practically nothing. Tomatillo is a comfortable little Mexican cafe with good food and great prices. They had a wide selection of different Mexican dishes. I ordered green burrito and added goat cheese (I think they should change the menu to always include goat cheese) and my friend ordered fish tacos and we were both very happy. Never understood the fascination with this place. I've tried it numerous times and have never been impressed. As others have stated, if you enjoy food with flavor, Tomatillo is not for you. Everything is under-seasoned and overcooked. Soggy, tasteless and unappetizing. Vegetarian friends rave about it so I tried the "Green Machine". Just gross. Soggy greens wrapped in a soggy tortilla with NO TRACE OF SALT, let alone any other spicing. I wholeheartedly agree with people who prefer to drive to the city for Mex than stay around here.
