Great food, great service! We had a 40 minute wait on a Thursday night and it was worth it. We had a variety of rolls including the red dynamite, smoked dynamite, salmonholic (and upgraded to real crab), salmon & avo, green, and spicy tuna rolls. Across the board, awesome fresh flavors. Definitely recommend! read more

A short update for April 2024. While this is still the best sushi in the area, I am sorry to see the prices rise so much in the last two months. From 7.5% to 18% per item. Our regular take-out for three is now $90 (including tax, w/o tip). read more

I usually get takeout, I think with COVID-19 and all I just forgot I can go there to dine in. Vegetarian options are great. The rolls are fresh and creative. I also really like their point collection system, wish more restaurants did this. They are also pretty quick, especially when compared to some other good sushi places like Mugen where wait time is really long for the same quality. read more

This restaurant has been several different sushi restaurants in the past; I don't know if it's under completely new management every time but this might be my favourite of its iterations! This was my second restaurant outing in our COVID-19 world and remembering how small the restaurant space was, I was a little nervous. The seating was spaced out though so there were maybe only two or three other groups in the restaurant when we were seated. The hostess took down our contact information before seating. The kitchen was extremely busy with takeout orders (we sat at a table in front of the bar counter which was stacked high with sushi takeout trays). I've been craving nigiri so I just ordered an assortment a la carte. Though the pieces were in general small, I enjoyed the fish to rice ratio and developed a fondness for saba/mackerel (which I don't really enjoy cooked). My favourite were the salmon belly of course, though the portion smaller than the other nigiri. My nigiri tray came with a decorative deep fried prawn head, which I also ate (mm crunchy). My friend ordered the salmonholic roll and the salmon jalapeno aburi hako, which I really liked! I never really got into the aburi or hako sushi trends but they were well made here and I'd order it again for myself. We also ordered chicken karage which came with a little dipping sauce but I found was well seasoned without it. read more

Tom Sushi is true oasis in the vast expanse of the hundreds of sushi restaurants in Vancouver. The presentation of their dishes took me back to some of my favourite sushi restaurants in Tokyo. Each dish was masterfully prepared and presented. The uni Sushi was presented with a pinch of black tobiki and topped off with a piece of gold leaf. I didn't know whether to frame it or eat it. I wish I had taken a picture. I would recommend, Tom Sushi if you are looking for a unique experience or a nice place to take a client or date. I left feeling like I got more than what I paid for. It's only 2 weeks new. I'm glad that I walked by. I hope to come back during my next business trip to Vancouver. Congratulations to the chef/owner. I wish you all the best. Well done. read more

Definitely one of the best sushi places in Vancouver!! Amazing ambiance really good service and quick delicious authentic sushi.

Can't believe it took me so long to finally try this place! It was so good, wish it could be under different circumstances and be able to dine in on this gem of a sushi spot. The take out was fast and the food was amazing. Highly recommend the Salmon Jalapeno Aburi and the Smoked Dynamite Roll. The sashimi was excellent too, I can't wait to try this place again! As they are open for take out and uber eats, please support them during this time ! read more

Ok sushi. Good staff. Nothing to rave about. Plain sushi rolls that are overpriced. Ok for takeout

Sushi quality is A1! Best you can find in Vancouver. Must visit while you're in town! They'll never disappoint, trust me! We got tempura, sashimi and a roll. All sooo yummy!!! read more

One of the worst sushi experiences I (and my party) have had. Food is over-priced, came in low quantity, and taste and quality are subpar.

Amazingly great place, premium sashimi platter is one of the most beautiful, delicious creations you could dream of. read more

We did a delivery order. The delivery was right on time; ordered for delivery at 5:30 to 5:50, and it arrived at 5:30. Food was the best delivery we have had. My aunt & uncle travel a lot and they know their sushi, and they were impressed by the freshness of the nigiris and the delicious rolls, That's saying a lot coming from them. The only reason I took a star off, although they should deserve 4.5, but it din't give me that option, is because the packaging of the food could have been handled better. One of the Gungan sushi I ordered was the tobiko with quail egg, unfortunately 1 of them arrived with the egg in the take out carton and not on top of the tobiko, and it was completely opened and spilled everywhere, which also meant it went to the second roll of sushi which was chopped scallop with tobiko. I wanted my scallop to taste fresh and not have quail egg on the rice, Speaking of packaging, the nigiri items were nice and neat, as we know nigiris don't spill all over. However, all the packages with rolls, spilled over each other to a point where we couldn't tell which roll were which. I just think for the amount we paid, perhaps Tom Sushi could put a little more effort in dividing up the 2 different rolls, perhaps with the fake grass or some other kind of barrier. Otherwise it was delicious. I suggested my aunt & uncle drop by there for lunch or dinner so they will get each dish separate or at least on a large enough plate/platter where the items are not all over each other. We loved the food and will definitely go back. read more

Good sushi. Fast service. Would recommend. It's small so there will be a wait so get there early.

Delicious blue fin don buri take out. Rice was perfectly seasoned with fresh fish. Good size vegetable tempura but could have used a lighter panko batter. It was a bit heavy. You gotta try it! read more

I had highhhhhhh expectation because this is a five star review restaurant on Yelp. I ordered a bunch of nigiri and Oshi. I have to say that the fish is very fresh, so I give this restaurant a star off because of their rice. It is TOO HARD. A good sushi rice for me should be not too hard and not too soft. It should also be more flavour, but not take away from the flavour of the fish itself. The rice plays a pivotal role in the texture. I hope they can make the rice not that hard (also too much rice for each nigiri). read more

Another cool sushi restaurant on Davie, Tom sushi.Honestly, there are so many options on Davie street for food and I somehow 70% or the time pick sushi. So I ordered on the phone for pickup. Got the maki combo, loin-cheese katsu and chicken yakisoba and received a 10% pick up discount including miso soup on the house. Amazing deal. Food was good, however, it got cold in our 10 minutes walk home. Bummer. But I can't wait for all restaurants to re-open once this corona virus is cleared, so I can sit in the restaurant and enjoy hot cheesey katsu and yakisoba. Good food, friendly and very welcoming staff. At this time, I am all for supporting local businesses and I encourage everyone locally to also support these restaurant and shops. Also, keep you distance and make sure to sanitize/wash your hands before eating. And everyone working at this time is a real hero. Thank you guys. read more

This place is amazing, great inside, friendly service. Yea when you sit down, attentively served and well fed!

Excellent sushi that is very economical and fast service. Would definitely go back and imagine this would be a go-to for locals

The fish is fairly fresh here compared to a lot of other sushi restaurants, but definitely not a 5 stars. The Wagyu beef nigiri was good. The fake wasabi really threw me off because if you serve Blue fin tuna, Wagyu beef and foie gras kind of food, you should serve real wasabi. It's like you wear suit with leather shoes, not runners. read more

In a city where there are plenty of good options for sushi, Tom Sushi is a standout. We had a wonderful experience. The quality was exceptional. The sushi was divine and the rice was perfection. The menu is extensive and everything was perfectly prepared. The uni was glorious. We will be back. As a mater of fact, Tom Sushi will now be added to the must-go-to list every time I visit Vancouver. Believe the hype! read more

I saw "Tom Sushi" and thought "eh...neighborhood sushi joint", but I was wrong! This is so much better and as good as any top sushi place in NYC, but at half the price. Food was excellent. The pork katsu with cheese is a must try in my opinion if you like fried food. All the sushi were excellent. Decor is very clean and minimalist but atmosphere is very lively with lots of chatter. Definitely not a stuffy place where you fell like you're being too loud. Service was excellent - like real Japanese level service. I would eat here again any day. Come early or off hours to avoid the REALLY long wait since they don't take reservations. read more

Me and my friend went to TOM Sushi today. it was our first time there. We got the Dynamite Roll, it was really good. And the price was great to. We will definitely be going there again. The waitress was friendly and so were the cooks. We thanked them for the good meal and they waved at us as we left. I would refer this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a nice sushi place. and the size of the sushi is large but they will make smaller size rolls if you ask them too. I think TOM sushi will be our sushi place to go. Carl B-Vancouver, BC read more

The website States authentic Japanese food here but that's not what we discovered. The Miso soup was just broth that lacked any substance. The grilled black cod appetizer was okay but overpriced for the tiny size not enough for two or more people even. And the sushi rolls were mediocre at best not even close to authentic here. Service was lackluster no remedial actions taken for our pointing out these discrepancies. We don't care to return here again. Check my photo for the tiny Cod appetizer that was $13! Many places offer a meal for that price. read more

Sushi is the best in Vancouver. Super great service and staff, and a variety of delicious special rolls. Definetly ho there knowing there will be a wait but trust it is worth it! read more

Tom Sushi occupies that wonderful space of delicious and fresh sushi at a decent price point. This isn't a fancy high end "authentic" place, nor questionably cheap grab and go. It's the kind of spot that I can easily find myself returning to again and again for food that is well-made, fresh, and tasty. The aburi is definitely a must. read more

I'm pretty sure i have eaten great Sushi in this physical location under about three different names now. Tom Sushi is no exception! Quality service and quality ingredients always go a long way in making a dining experience great. I am here exclusively during lunch hours, during which time the staff are incredible. Attentive servers, craftsman behind the display cases and the food gets to your table quickly. Clean plating, protein at the correct temperature and nothing is over sauced. The restaurant has an open design and is brightened by the large front window. Price is moderately higher but definitely worth it. read more

This is a new establishment. I remember when it was Sushi Bella, and then Hatzu, and now this. Me and my partner were pleasantly surprised by the food they have here. It's super delicious, high-quality, and has decent pricing. The Fire Volcano roll is by far my favorite. They use fresh ingredients and the signature rolls they offer are exquisite; each roll has it's own sauce I believe. Staff are super friendly too. The design of the restaurant is outstanding, posh and cozy, with just the right lighting. I feel I may have found my new favorite sushi spot! read more

Loved it here! Their sushi is very affordable and high quality. Lots of options to choose from and their interior is beautiful. I can't wait to go back! read more

Authentic taste! Everything we ordered was very delicious. I had forgotten what real sushi tastes like!

I've been waiting for a good and "Affordable" sushi spot with quality fish and fun environment for a very long time in Vancouver and I finally think this is it. I've been here 3 times now (twice in groups, once as a couple) and have enjoyed the experience each and everytime. The fish they serve here are from the same suppliers you would get at much more expensive restaurants around town, and the chef himself is very passionate about his craft, leading to a great product. Instead of going to Minami, Sushi Jin, or Maumi and spending at least a $100 a person, come to Tom Sushi and get out of there stuffed for less than half of that. (once you start adding in Sake... the bill can obviously start getting away from you) Ultimately, this will most like be my go-to quick and casual sushi spot in Downtown Vancouver moving forward. I appreciate the quality of the food, service and environment of the establishment. read more

Tom Sushi is a new restaurant that recently opened on Vancouver's Davie Street. This actually used to be another Japanese restaurant called Bistro Hatzu which I also liked but it looks like it moved to a new location closer to Main Street. I'm so glad a new sushi joint opened up here though! There are several other options around the area but so far, none have really satisfied my taste. The interior was bright, welcoming, and looked spacious. Their menu was also very well designed and was laid out nicely with lots of options to choose from without feeling like there was too much going on. I came here with my coworkers during lunch. Since all three of us were hungry, we decided to order a party tray to share. We opted for the Tom Special Roll Tray ($59.95). This included 6 different signature rolls: Red Dynamite Roll, Smoked Dynamite Roll, Snow Dragon Roll, Black Dragon Roll, Salmonholic Roll, and Rainbow Roll. Everything was presented well and was delicious! My top three were the Rainbow Roll, Salmonholic Roll, and Smoked Dynamite Roll. The fish was fresh and the rice to filling ratio was just right. My only complaint with this particular selection is that the Red Dynamite and Smoked Dynamite rolls were too similar to be placed within the same tray. I wish they had replaced one of them with another one of their specialty rolls to provide more contrast. The service was friendly and attentive; our tea cups were constantly refilled. Also, you can get free miso soup and a 10% discount if you are a hospital employee. You just need to show your ID badge to avail of this. I will definitely be coming back to try the other items on their menu -- they have bluefin tuna specials, nigiri, box sushi, as well as cooked food like katsu, udon, and cold soba noodles! My girlfriend and I came in at around 4 PM on Labour Day. We had looked up sushi restaurants to go to around the city were open at this time and came across this gem! I was skeptical before stepping in because the restaurant was empty, but given the time I figured it made sense. The waitress and sushi chefs greeted us politely and filled us in on the recommendations of the day. We took them up on the bluefin and hamachi sashimi, and added in the salmon hako sushi as well. The sashimi was AMAZING and for good value. We got 6 pieces of bluefin: 2 lean and 4 fatty, each pair from different parts of the tuna. The fattier tuna were rich, tender, and had the PERFECT fish taste without the stinky fish smell/taste, if you know what I mean. Similarly, we ordered a full plate of hamachi that was just as rich and flavorful as the bluefin! The salmon hako sushi tasted just as expected, and to top it off, the sushi chefs were kind enough to give us a couple complimentary samples of some type of jack fish sushi. All in all, my girlfriend and I enjoyed our experience here: attentive staff with the taste and quality of a 4-5 star sushi restaurant at a better value! read more
