The salmon nigiri tasted very fishy. The sushi rice wasn't seasoned. The shrimp at the buffet was starting to turn bad. And the sashimi at the buffet wasn't professionally cut. When ordering teriyaki you are forced to order a side to fill you up. The ramen is not fresh and you make it yourself using instant noodles packets you can buy at the store. The service was extremely slow and we heard several tables around us complaining. One couple said they had been waiting for their rolls for 1.5 hrs. Our orders came by fast, but the plates were never collected from our table and servers never once checked on us. We were waiting to get our check for at least 30 minutes and had to flag someone. Servers also seemed not very friendly. The ambiance was okay, but a bit of a modern nightclub vibe. I really wanted this neighborhood spot to succeed and was excited about its association with Chef Wang. We arrived at 5:30pm to a restaurant with plenty of empty seats, but the person behind the counter kept telling us and three other parties that we'd need to wait for the hostess. After about 10 minutes she showed up looking like she actively resented being at work, playing with a fidget toy at the counter in front of us. Once seated, the layout is a bit complex: a ramen bar where you self-prepare from packets, a dessert bar with average Chinese-buffet-style items, and a raw bar with sashimi and shellfish. You order through an app on your phone, which sounds great in theory but wasn't in practice -- there's a limit of 5 items per person every 8 minutes, and the app was buggy enough that we struggled to get our second order in at all. We ordered nigiri and sushi through the app, then grabbed tuna, salmon, and yellowtail sashimi from the self-serve bar while waiting -- which ended up being the best thing we ate all night. The nigiri arrived with hard, starchy rice, and the fish actually tasted less fresh than what we'd grabbed from the self-serve bar. When we finally got a second order through, it only let us add two more items. We considered asking our waiter to help troubleshoot the app but decided the food just wasn't good enough to bother, paid, and left. All told: about $100 after tip for two people, for very little food and mediocre quality. On the plus side, our waiter was genuinely kind, and it was clear from his demeanor that he was used to seeing tables react the way we did. Sorry to say about a new restaurant in town but we were not Impressed. The food is fine nothing super outstanding or anything that really had me feeling great but average. The service is where things got sticky. You order digitally and the hostess did a great explaining the process since it was our first time there. Ordering sushi took absolutely forever. Way too long in my opinion, so long in fact we just asked for the check and left. We didn't get further than the first round. This is an interesting concept, the hostess seats you in a table and on the way, she tells us how everything works and points out the food stations. We're seated in a booth and we scan the QR code that's associated with our table, from this we can choose up to 5 items and every 8 mins you can order again. The 3 of us chose some rolls and a couple of apps, the waiter came over with the cups and suggested to use only one phone to order so everything came together. All the staff were very nice, the food was ok,, nothing to write home about. We had one bite of the short rib bao, it was not good.. the chicken was ok. For the 3 of us it was 81$, I think if you can put away a lot of sushi this place is good, but I don't think I ate enough to make it worth it.the restaurant is nice, has pretty decor, although getting around to the salads and sauces can be a bit of a traffic jam.. Really enjoyed our experience here. The all you can eat sushi had a great variety of options, and everything we tried was super fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The nigiri was especially good, and there were plenty of different rolls, entrees, and other options to choose from. They also have a ramen bar, a miso soup machine, desserts, and self serve drinks, which made the all you can eat experience even better. The atmosphere was another highlight. The Tokyo inspired Asian decor, cool looking bar, comfortable seating, great music, and overall setup gave the place a really nice vibe. Everything was super clean and well maintained, and it had a great family friendly environment while still feeling like a cool place to hang out. What really stood out to me was how kind and welcoming everyone was toward my daughter. They made us feel comfortable and allowed us to enjoy our meal peacefully, which I really appreciated. The staff was friendly and made us feel genuinely welcome. Tried Tokyo Sushi based on the amazing reviews it has and I was sadly disappointed with the food. To start the service was good, but be prepared to get everything yourself, soy sauce, wasabi, ginger, drinks (except alcohol)... everything. They have tiny disposable Dixie cups for the soy sauce which makes it very challenging to dip your food in appropriately. The food overall was rather bland. The miso soup desperately needed salt. The fish was decent. The rolls were presented beautifully, but again rather bland. But the biggest shock was the fact that they did not use sushi rice, nor did they season the rice at all. I went around 4:30 on a weekday and it was not busy. I ordered off their app, which only limited me to 4 items and processed the order. I found using the app quite cumbersome and asked for a menu. There are too many items to scroll through, which is inherently a problem. I was told that is not an option. Good thing I sat at the sushi bar and one of the chefs offered to make sushi by verbal request which he made immediately. After 25 minutes the items I ordered through the app never came. I asked the waitress about it and she said my order never went through (system error, not user error) and she had to place the order manually for me, so I waited another 15-20 minutes. The sauces were all at the sushi bar, which wasted a lot of disposable plastic dip containers just to get soy sauce for the sushi. I did like that they had spicy mayo and other dipping sauces besides soy sauce. I liked that the drinks were self service. The ramen bar didn't look appetizing. Not sure I'd pay the price for ramen if I didn't eat sushi. A separate ramen fast food concept priced lower would be more appealing to me. Food quality was inconsistent. First thing, the sushi rice for the rolls was hard. Because of this, I ordered more sashimi and skipped nigiri altogether. The cucumber salad was bland, the crispy rice with fish lacked flavor, the eel on the dragon roll seemed deep fried (vs roasted) and dry, the tempura shrimp were good but small in size, and I prefer a krab mayo mix over krab stick for most sushi rolls. The made to order hamachi, white tuna, and octopus sashimi was fresh. The veggie tempura was good. I also liked the size of the rolls, not too big and not too much rice. The sushi chefs and servers were nice and tried to be attentive. They need to work through their processes. The app is a buzzkill (note: I'm very tech savvy). I've used apps at other higher end sushi bars with less menu items in LA and they work much better. I wish them well and hope they read their reviews and make the needed adjustments. Just tried Tokyo Sushi and it was a solid win. Staff was friendly and got us seated right away with no long wait. The menu has a really good variety of options. Started with the Samurai spring rolls -- perfect amount of crunch and flavor. They hit just right as an appetizer. For the main, I went with the Tokyo prime short rib hibachi-style served on a sizzling skillet with steamed rice. The beef was excellent -- cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The sizzling presentation was a nice touch too. I also ordered a sushi roll but was already full by the time I got to it. Everything I tried tasted great and the presentation was on point. The place itself was very clean. Bonus points for having a Ramen bar, plus a fresh cold bar and dessert bar (didn't get to try those this time, but it's a cool setup). Definitely coming back. The hostess was very pleasant, but unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. The cleanliness was disappointing, and the salad/seafood/dessert bar was not appealing at all. We were told there would be a variety of sushi rolls available but there was none. We waited over an hour for one sushi roll, and the other rolls came out extremely slowly. When the sushi finally arrived, the rice was very mushy and overly pasty, and the vegetables were soggy. It was honestly difficult to find much in the rolls besides rice. We were seated in the middle booths, where customers were leaning and putting their hands on the table while waiting to fill/refill their drinks, which made the experience even less enjoyable. Please keep in mind this review is done on day 2 of opening and things may change as the restaurant figures things out later. For the food it was mediocre, granted I didn't get to try the rolls as we waited for almost 2 hours for rolls that came when we finally said we were ready to leave. We watched other tables come and go, come to find out our order was never placed. They have an open cold bar with assorted cold shrimp and mussels, but the way it was set up was not sanitary and flies were touching the raw seafood. I didn't try the ramen bar so I cannot attest to that. They had a dessert section that wasn't anything worth while, small little cakes. The ice cream you think would be Japanese but was ice cream truck ice cream. What was done well was the drink station, they had different slushies and teas with syrups that you can customize yourself and refill yourself. Service was trying their best, un organized but that can be normal for a new restaurant. Our server was kind and apologized for the long wait. We did have another person deliver us our rolls when we were finally ready to leave since it took too long to get food, she said I don't know what anything is here are your rolls this isn't my job. Which was unprofessional to say the least. Overall I think a good concept but needs some work in the way food is displayed for sanitary purposes and wait time was unexpectable since it wasn't even a busy night. read more

I came here during the grand opening for dinner. The AYCE is $37 per adult and includes hot dishes, drink bar, (instant) ramen bar, cold bar, and dessert. When I first arrived, the front desk seemed very disorganized, and were arguing amongst themselves. They told us it would be a 45 min wait, but we were seated in 5 minutes. While walking to our table, I got a phone call from a private caller and received a voicemail saying we were ready to be seated. The staff seemed confused and unprofessional, arguing with each other and sometimes using sharp tones with customers. Our waiter was the only one who seemed to have any professionalism. The service overall was slow- it took us two hours to receive one of our first orders we put in. Our server apologized and told us the manager was going to come out to apologize, but that never happened. The sushi overall was okay. The nigiri and sashimi was good, but the rolls were very poorly made. When I ordered ikura nigiri, I expected fish roe but received wasabi dyed masago nigiri instead, which was disgusting. The bao buns did not seem fresh and the katsu in them was flavorless. The tables either side of us kept getting wrong orders while we never received some. The only thing that was legitimately good was the milk tea - which they don't even make themselves, but got it from taichi bubble tea. At the end of the night, our waiter apologized for the terrible experience and asked us to give them another chance, but I probably won't be coming back. read more

I wanted to share my experience at Tokyo Sushi since they just had their grand opening. First off, the food was great. The fish tasted fresh and high quality, the presentation was immaculate, and I really liked the whole setup and concept. The buffet bar had a great selection, and the ramen was delicious. You can tell a lot of thought went into putting this place together. I know there have been some comments about the wait times, and yes, the service did take longer than expected while I was there. But from my perspective, I don't think it was because the staff wasn't trying. The place was extremely busy, especially for their first weekend, and I'm a tech guy, so I started noticing what looked like issues with their ordering/POS system. It seemed like some tickets weren't going through or printing correctly with the amount of orders coming in. I even saw servers having to write things down and work around the system just to keep things moving. I talked to a few of the servers, and honestly, everyone seemed to be doing the best they could under the circumstances. Technical difficulties can throw an entire restaurant off, especially when you're dealing with that kind of volume during a grand opening. It's unfortunate that they're dealing with something like this on their first weekend because it can make the staff and kitchen look bad when the actual food and effort are there. From what I was told, they're already working on getting a different system that can better handle their setup and volume. For a brand-new restaurant working through opening-weekend issues, I think Tokyo Sushi has a lot of potential. Once they get those technical problems worked out and everything starts flowing the way it's supposed to, I think they're going to be cranking out some seriously good food. I'll definitely be back. Went Friday lunch with my girlfriend. Not busy. I had a half-off coupon, which is the only reason this didn't feel even worse on price. Sat at the sushi bar on the end. Hostess was fine. Everything is QR ordering on your phone, no real menus were offered. You share one cart and it was limited to like 5-6 items at a time (it was 2 of us so it's probably bigger for bigger groups). Nigiri is 2 pieces per order, if you actually want a lot you can only get maybe 10 pieces a round. At Kintaro down Speedway you can just order whatever quantity you want whenever. This system is a pain tbh, although I get how it's easier for staff. Food was mixed. Some nigiri was actually really good. Other pieces were thin, not much fish, and a few had a pretty strong fishy/ocean smell. Rolls were mid. Presentation is cool though. Biggest problem is the rice. Inconsistent as hell. Some pieces were okay, some were hard, bland, falling apart, and tasted like nothing. Same thing on the rolls. A lot of rice, not much flavor, not that sticky seasoned rice you want. That alone would keep me from coming back at full price. They also brought some things we didn't order. Walk-up stuff and desserts looked pre-made like you'd get at any buffet, nothing unique. Drinks were just bad. Soda machine barely worked (especially the Dr.Pepper) Icees were terrible, and it was basically soda/tea/strawberry lemonade with random flavor pumps. Service was pretty quick and our server was cool when we asked to move. One sushi chef in front of us was actually nice. Some smelly older guy sat right next to us even though the whole sushi bar was empty, scooted closer, turned his back, put his feet up, and they started handing food over us. Absolutely killed the vibe. We asked to move and they let us. After we left he took our original seats and started loudly making comments about us. Weird for how empty the restaurant was. Everything at Tokyo Sushi is top tier for an all-you-can-eat spot. They've got a self-serve sashimi bar, every sauce you could want, a make-your-own ramen station, and even a dessert station -- on top of a full menu of specialty rolls and apps you can order. The katsu bao was delicious, and the potstickers were amazing, but the fried rice is an absolute must. Not crispy, not burnt -- perfect texture and flavor, hands down the best in town. You have to check this place out. The owner is the sweetest and made sure we were well taken care of the whole time. I have been awaiting Tokyo Sushi's open for months, and I'm incredibly satisfied after getting to visit! Wonderful service by Adrian, who helpfully warned us that the sushi kitchen was slammed with orders and would take a bit longer. I really appreciated the warning because it helped me figure out what to eat. He also checked up on us a lot and was very attentive and helpful, especially for an all you can eat! Would come back just for the service! However, the food was amazing. I got the spicy kani crisp bites and the Black Pearl Roll (himachi and cucumber roll topped with red snapper, black tobiko, and house ponzu sauce). Both were fantastic with beautiful presentation, and the ponzu was very fresh and citrusy. I also tried all of the sashimi, but my favourite was definitely the salmon. They also had clams and mussels, and a variety of sauces. The BYO ramen bar was also delicious, with lots of toppings available and Shin ramen among their ramen options. They also had pretty good options for their hot made-to-order food. The house fried rice was delicious. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! read more

We waited about an hour for our table, and as we were led over, we were sat directly in front of the most blatant, hideous AI mural. They did not even try to hide it - all of the text was messed up, and there was a ton of text. Our server pointed out two TV screens which cycled through pictures of the food. Those ads were also AI generated, equally as hideous as the mural, looking far worse the food we eventually received. Service was slow, but the servers were extremely kind and understanding despite being very clearly swamped - understandable, it was opening night. We ordered two more rolls than we ended up getting, but we were full when we left. The food was... pretty good. The smoked salmon sashimi was a highlight - it's the smokiest salmon I've ever had at a sushi place. Everything else was... fine. I could give a play-by-play of what we ordered, but it doesn't matter in the end. The shadow of the lazy, deceptive AI usage hung over the meal like a stench. Just hire a photographer to take pictures of your food and drinks - then it will actually look like the things you serve. Kintaro is right down the road, and they don't use AI to advertise. Ideally, when you leave an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, you want to leave full; I left full of disappointment. At $37 a person, dinner came out to around $80 for my fiancé and me, plus tip. The tip was genuinely earned. The hostess and waitress were both kind, friendly, and prompt. Unfortunately, good front-of-house service was the only thing this place had going for it. The food was a major letdown. The ramen bar looked like it belonged in a gas station, and the 'dessert bar' felt straight out of an elementary school cafeteria. It was literally just popsicles, cheap ice cream bars, and those paper ice cream cups you eat with a tiny wooden paddle. Worse, the sushi smelled uncomfortably fishy, had a terrible texture, and lacked flavor. Because they penalize you financially for leaving uneaten food, we felt pressured to finish it, and we paid for it with stomach issues immediately after getting home. The ambience was completely bizarre. They were blasting uncensored music you'd expect to hear in a trashy club, full of audible expletives while families with small children were trying to eat dinner. To cap it all off, the single men's restroom was filthy, complete with heavy waterline rings and dried grime on the rim. Skip this spot.
