Jjajangmyeon
Anne Q.

First time at Tokyo Express. We've been wanting to try this place, but we always fill up with popcorn after seeing a movie at SMG. Anyway, they greet you when you come in. It has a homey vibe for me. The food comes out fast, and the ramen was perfectly hot. We ordered sushi, jjajangmyeon, and champon ramen. They were all good! The champon ramen is perfect for the cold weather. It has a lot of toppings - pork, clams, shrimp, and mussels. It was a lot. I didn't even finish my bowl. They use thin noodles with their jjajangmyeon; I prefer thick noodles, but that's not a deal-breaker.

Forgot the name of the roll

We stopped by the little gem on our way to Reno and this place was pretty good. We ordered the miso ramen. The kid liked it. The miso flavor she said reminded her of mom's cooking so I guess I'm a pretty good cook. The only thing she didn't care for was the meat. She said she would rather have tofu. My youngest kiddo also slurped the ramen. I ordered a roll but forgot the name. I enjoyed the roll. But the rice was a tad bit hard. But the overall flavor of the roll was good. I like how this place does not drizzle sauce on the roll so you can actually taste the fish. Which did not leave a fishy mess. The hubs ordered the bimbimbap and he was satisfied. I tried it and it was flavorful. Last we ordered a kid's chicken teriyaki. Compared to other places that offer kids meal. This one has less chicken and rice and normally a kids meal at other spots will fill my son's belly but this one he ended up eating some of his sister's ramen. Also ordered a mixed shrimp and veggie tempura plate. Loved the lightness of the salad dressing. The kids loved the tempura batter. Overall this place is cute and worth a try if you are in the area.

So far this place was really good. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and the beef yaki noodle. I really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki plate. They do however give about 3/4 cup of rice. For how much chicken it has, it seems a little light on the rice. But the chicken was really good and cooked how I had imagined. The Beef Yaki Noodles were alright and were a pretty good chow mein like dish. We'll likely order from here again.

Delicious!!!! Super fast and friendly service!! Love the jalapeño appetizer!!! Kids love the dragon made from sauce on all the plates.

Very clean, well lit restaurant. Friendly staff and quick service. We ordered the bulgogi bowl and the dragon roll, both were delicious. The dragon design with the sauce on the plate with the dragon roll was a very nice touch. The roll had perfectly balanced flavors, will definitely order again. The bulgogi was very tender and flavorful.

Very welcoming and kind staff. Good order was placed fast. We went 2 adults and 2 kids and everyone was satisfied. Delicious. Happy. And some garlic edamame with calamari. Super yummy. Good music. Definitely coming back.

The very best! Delish food, diverse menu, family and kid friendly... we keep coming back for more !!

Pan Fried Gyoza and Caterpillar Roll

I was in the area running errands and had just picked up a sandwich next door at Jersey Mike's for my husband and saw the Grand Opening sign outside. I love sushi, so I decided this would be my lunch. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a staff member behind the counter, they asked if I was dining in or taking out and when I said it would be to go, she gave me a menu to look over. They do have a menu on the wall, but they offer so many items that the text was a bit too small for me to read. I looked over the menu and decided to keep it simple for this visit and get a Caterpillar Roll ($13.50) and Pan Fried Gyoza ($8.50). I paid and took a seat by the doors to wait. They have a good amount of seating inside and it's open, well lit and has a fun mural on the wall. I was there at about 12:45pm and there was a group eating at the time, but it wasn't crowded. My food didn't take too long and the nice staff person brought my bag to me and wished me a nice day. When I arrived home I was excited to dig in. The Caterpillar roll looked like it may have fallen over during the drive, and the avocado on top looked fresh and bright green. Once I went to pick it up with chopsticks though, I realized it was falling apart and hard to grasp with chopsticks. After taking a bite it seems the rice may have been overcooked, it was a very mushy texture and as I continued eating it the roll turned more into a rice, avocado, unagi mixture in the takeout box. I also noticed that the unagi was not super prevalent in each bite, it was there but definitely smaller pieces. I'm not sure if the Caterpillar roll was a bad choice, if it was an off day, or something else but usually when I order simple rolls it allows the ingredients to shine through and this didn't wow me. The Gyoza was still crispy when I got home and I enjoyed the sweet vinegar sauce that came with them. The outside is a thin wrapper and the inside is a mix of meat and veggies. If I come back I'll try something different from the menu, although previous reviews raved about the sushi. This leads me to think I may have caught them on a bad day. Overall it was OK and the service and atmosphere was great, but there are a lot of local sushi spots and overcooked, mushy rice shouldn't make it out of the kitchen.

This place is absolutely fantastic--some of the best service I've ever experienced at a sushi restaurant. I've visited multiple times, and every time the staff is unbelievably friendly and welcoming. On one occasion, we were even treated to a complimentary appetizer, and every visit feels like we're being welcomed by family! They're fast, helpful, flexible, and the sushi is good. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious. Some of our go-to rolls are the Rocklin Roll, Teriyaki Chicken Roll, and the Lish Roll. We're also big fans of the chicken udon--comforting and flavorful. I tried the chirashi once too, and it was super fresh with great flavor. If you're looking for amazing food and warm, thoughtful service, this spot is worth a visit. I also find the venue clean, and well maintained. You'll leave full and smiling!

Uggg...I forgot the name, Thai noodles and perfect amount of spiciness!

One thing I really like is that you can customize your bowl exactly how you want it by choosing different broths and your preferred noodle thickness. The karaage chicken appetizer is a must-order--crispy, juicy, and absolutely delicious. The service is always friendly, and the food comes out quickly. If you're looking for authentic ramen in the Roseville area, this is definitely a place I'd recommend.

Today we came to celebrate my son's birthday with a party of seven, and unfortunately the service was noticeably worse than any of our previous visits. It was slow to get our order taken, refills were rarely offered, and overall our server just seemed inattentive and uninterested. I had already decided I was going to leave a smaller tip because of the service, but when the bill arrived, I noticed that gratuity is automatically added for parties of six or more. That honestly made the experience even more frustrating. I really dislike automatic-gratuity policies like this because there's no longer much incentive for the server to provide great service, the tip is guaranteed regardless. Maybe that wasn't the reason for the poor service today, but it certainly felt that way. Great food as always, but for a birthday dinner with a larger party, the service was really disappointing.

The place location is excellent just in intersection and next to movie theater blue oaks theater…read more The place itself is good enough for the number of clientele that goes in and have a few tables outside the restaurant. It is a self service order, fast quick. The lighting, painting, decor of the restaurant is good. They covered the bathroom with some wood aesthetics. The server only cashier, 1 server, and 3 cooks in the kitchen. The staff, greets you when you come in same when you are leaving. The food, it's "A" ok. But the FRIED OYSTERS are recommendable. It's what we go for. All others the ramen, is not bad the tonkatsu chicken is acceptable. Taste is ok, portion on ramen is alright, the oysters was not plated or presented well as it shows on the rolling tv add. The portion of the tonkatsu chicken and sides can be more for the price you pay. Oh the servers, they look a bit sloppy in appearance. Hair not well groom or comb properly, t-shirts just hanging out It can be better. Both were wearing apron. The ONLY PROBLEM is when one lady started sweeping rigorously, under 2 tables, all you hear is "SMACK....SMACK... click, clack" As a client eating I cannot find peace to enjoy my food. It will be almost closing shy not dust and clean at closing time. The "DUST" particles is in the air. This is not the way to run a business. If there is gross waste particle I understand but there's none that will require an urgent matter. The server noticed that I stop eating, cause I was covering my food. She did apologize. How can you make your clients feel disgusted, uncomfortable, and feel bad of coming to eat there let alone you are paying for service and comfort, conveniency and the pleasure of eating out. It's my 3rd time coming there and it will be my last.

We had waited for months for this restaurant to open, and last night, we decided to try it for the…read morefirst time. We had one Rootbeer and a small bottled Saporo in a pint chilled glass. We ordered an $8 oyster shooter, most come with either hot sake or cold sake, theirs was room temperature, a little roe, tiny oyster in a very tiny one shot glass. It took 30 minutes before it was served. We also ordered sea salt edamane, stuffed jalapeños, sunomono salad. The cucumber salad was very good, the edamane looked like they had been frozen then defrosted and served, and the stuffed jalapeños tasted off, we ate them, 4 total. My wife ordered a spider roll, it had a strong gamy taste like a lower grade fish that was used. My wife tried two pieces, swallowed the first and spit the second into her napkin, to her it was awful. I ordered the Shashimi Regular, that came with a small salad and miso soup, they were both good, I received the shashimi last, long after the spider roll; it was interesting, but the fish was more of a class C instead of a class A. Their prices were class A and the fish didn't meet that expectation. It was an $84.50 meal but didn't meet the expectations of a class A sushi meal. The waitress was very professional and asked us about the meal, we were honest and she took the spider roll off the bill. She offered an other roll but by then my wife was done. My wife declined the offer. The restaurant's ambiance was modern and very nice. I would not recommend eating here to my friends.

The ambiance is beautiful, especially the massive chandelier in the center of the room. I ordered the 12-piece sashimi dish ($31), and the salmon was the standout; it was glistening, juicy, and incredibly fresh. I also appreciated that the miso soup was included; it had a perfect consistency and wasn't overly salty. However, the side salad was a bit of a letdown, it was quite bland and barely had dressing. That said, the service was so good that I'll definitely be back.
