I also appreciated that the miso soup was included; it had a perfect consistency and wasn't overly salty. However, the side salad was a bit of a letdown, it was quite bland and barely had dressing. We had waited for months for this restaurant to open, and last night, we decided to try it for the first time. We had one Rootbeer and a small bottled Saporo in a pint chilled glass. We ordered an $8 oyster shooter, most come with either hot sake or cold sake, theirs was room temperature, a little roe, tiny oyster in a very tiny one shot glass. It took 30 minutes before it was served. We also ordered sea salt edamane,stuffed jalapeños, sunomono salad. The cucumber salad was very good, the edamane looked like they had been frozen then defrosted and served, and the stuffed jalapeños tasted off, we ate them, 4 total. My wife ordered a spider roll, it had a strong gamy taste like a lower grade fish that was used. My wife tried two pieces, swallowed the first and spit the second into her napkin, to her it was awful. I ordered the Shashimi Regular, that came with a small salad and miso soup,they were both good, I received the shashimi last, long after the spider roll; it was interesting, but the fish was more of a class C instead of a class A. Their prices were class A and the fish didn't meet that expectation. It was an $84.50 meal but didn't meet the expectations of a class A sushi meal. I am disappointed by the change in menu that happened in the last few months. We've ordered takeout twice taking advantage of "specials" they have had when in fact you are paying extra for very average rolls. They were running an online special of 50% off rolls but the roll's original price was $28. For a $28 roll, I'm expecting something spectacular. Instead I paid $16 for a roll that I could have gotten at the grocery store. If you price your rolls fairly and stop bait-switching your customers you'll have better business! read more

It was just too loud and distracting for the environment, especially because the restaurant was so slow and quiet at the time. Not really familiar with this part of Rocklin but I was in the area, wanted sushi and my go to sushi place is not open on Mondays so I found myself coming here because of the good reviews. A 12 piece sashimi with a rice, salad, miso and 12 pieces of fish, with my substitution of half sake, half Hamachi was $36 plus a small tip for a takeout order. The first thing I noticed is that there is still a bit of that silvery salmon skin on the sashimi, that's a little bit of a red flag because that can actually make the sashimi taste a little bit tough sometimes, usually actually. So I take my first bite of salmon and it's not tough but you can definitely tell that the sushi chef might not be experienced with cutting sushi. All the pieces were cut in a weird way, they weren't uniform at all, and then there were these other pieces of salmon that almost looked as though they were cut like a mango, like in a grid style? I've never seen it before, and I don't think it was to be creative or purposeful. I think it was just his style lol. The Hamachi was definitely cut well but I noticed that it was mostly dark meat Hamachi, which I don't often see with the vast majority of every single sashimi slice, and tends to be a little more fishy tasting in my opinion. Not my favorite. The fish was good, they both had a very subtle fishy flavor but they didn't taste bad, but not as clean as if they were perfectly fresh. I'd say considering location and price, it's a solid three star experience. Would I go back? Probably not but the slices of fish did seem to be good with the Hamachi, not so good with the sake. You can definitely find higher quality fish for a similar price elsewhere. One thing I have noticed about a lot of sushi spots that seem to get really good reviews is that the people reviewing these spots are usually local to the restaurant, so if the restaurant is not in a nice area, people commonly don't really know what truly high-quality, fresh fish taste like. Sure, some people do but when you go to a restaurant that specializes in raw, sushi grade fish but much of their menu is rolls that are mostly rice and just drenched in different sauces, to me that's a big red flag. So perhaps they specialize in more of your basic types of rolls hence the 4 1/2 star rating. read more

Finally got the chance to come here with my family. I drive by it practically everyday so it was about time. To be honest, I was a bit nervous from the previous restaurant that was there (RIP). Didn't have the best reviews. Saying all that, we are glad we visited. The food was excellent and presented well (see pictures). My wife had the steak and lobster platter & every item had favor. The appetizers salmon tartar so yummy, the chips were not enough but the waitress gave us more for 3 more times and non stop to refill the hot teas for us, the service was very very good. We have tried this place a few times and before the shutdown in January. However, we revisited in late February and not the same. First, we are both feeling nauseous after eating the sushi with is really concerning. We ordered online and was told 30 min for pick. A hour later, we had our food. As much as I want to like this place as it's near the house and want to support a local business, we cannot. There are much better places for sushi who can execute and provide quality fish that doesn't turn your stomach. Sadly we are not going back and will not plan on it in the future. read more

Well, I was in the area for a business meeting and was craving some sushi. I hopped on yelp and looked for one nearby in Rocklin and wow!! This place has only been open for a month and did they knock it out of the park. The Service was fantastic, fish was very fresh, and I loved everything I tried. I had Sunomono, 6 Oysters, UNI nigiri, Saba, Hamachi nigiri, scallop nigiri and finished with a soft shell crab hand roll for desert! It was the best sushi experience I have had in a long time. I live in the Central Valley outside Modesto. We have some decent places to eat Sushi, but if you live in the Rocklin area Ikura is the place to go for a wonderful sushi experience. read more

The sashimi is fresh and melted in my mouth. It says it has tuna but I am sure that they used chutoro or belly for their tuna roll and sashimi. $20 Chicken teppan: was on the dry side. They sue chicken breast. $14 3 sushi roll combo : it's a very good price for 3 basic rolls. $16 Overall is a good sushi place while they have very good lunch prices and quality. In search of sushi late Saturday night, we turned to Yelp to find a spot close to where we were that had decent reviews. When it comes to raw fish, I'm pretty picky lol It was after 9:30pm and we saw that Ikura was new and open until 10:30pm! We love supporting new small local businesses, so we were excited that they were open. We were the only people there at around 9:45pm on Saturday. The dining room is beautiful..I was blown away by the aesthetic & it was clean. The restaurant staff were friendly, and our hot tea was constantly refilled. Friendly service We decided on the Sashimi Deluxe to start...AMAZING!!!! Every piece of fish was plated separately, which we enjoyed the different touches to each plate, and the fish was so FRESH! I honestly can't wait to order this again, hopefully this is how it is always prepared and served. Felt like omakase without breaking the bank! We ordered two rolls, the King Crunch Roll which was very good, and the Yama Roll which was incredible! We both agree that Yama Roll was easily one of our favorite rolls anywhere. 100% would order that again. All in all, we both loved our experience at Ikura, and can't wait to return. read more

And the food is just okay at best. Visually the lobster roll is impressive. Taste wise the lobster chunks are just covered with too much sauce. My bento box had 5 offerings. None of them were very good. The gyoza tasted like it came from a bag of Bibigo and was cooked yesterday, dried out and gummy. Even the sticky rice somehow had 2 big blobs of gluey rice flour in it (Dribble over from the tempura?). Speaking of tempura the shrimp was okay, a little crispy. The broccoli and onion ring were undercooked and pasty, with an unappetizing mouth feel. The extra slender salmon was not sushi grade line caught fish. Tasted like frozen filet of farmed Atlantic salmon. The dining room is spacious and airy. Caveat: Over the past couple of months I've eaten some really good Japanese food in several Sacramento restaurants. Ikura here in Rocklin pales in comparison. No return for me. read more

Only 1 other table when we walked in, and they were complaining about the shrimp tempura being too mushy on the inside. We thought maybe they were just being particular. We decided on 3 lunch specials, to get the best bang for our buck. We got 3 rolls, Alaskan, spicy tuna, and salmon roll. They told us the Alaskan was California roll with tempura, it was actually California roll topped with spicy mayo and tempura flakes. The salmon roll was the best one out of the three, and the spicy tuna had spicy mayo as well... kinda odd. Sushi rolls were all very small, as there was minimal rice, perfect for someone watching their carbs, but skimpy looking otherwise. The teppanyaki steak came out with bacon fried rice and sautéed veggies. The steak was fine enough, but the last bite that I took tasted like the meat was going bad. I spit it out. Nothing to rave about. We chose the salmon teriyaki box, and it came with tempura, 1 gyoza, 4 small California roll, and a piece of teriyaki salmon. The salmon was the best thing the entire meal, properly cooked, and a good sauce. The tempura came with tempura shrimp (tasted frozen, and was also mushy, as the women had been complaining about), and panko breaded zucchini and panko breaded sweet potato. We recently ordered from Ikura Japanese Cuisine. It was generally a good experience. Our meal included Sea Salt Edamame, the Ahi Tower, a Shrimp Tempura Roll and Yellowtail Sashimi. The Sashimi was amazing - fresh, flavorful and tender with generous cuts of fish. The Shrimp Roll was also very good - Shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber inside coated with a pleasingly complementary sauce on top. The Edamame was just fine. Our least favorite was the Ahi Tower. The description sounded tempting - Spicy tuna, crab salad, avocado, and sushi rice, topped with sprouts and black tobiko, served with spicy mayo and eel sauce.
