Part of me didn't want to write this review because I didn't want this place to get even more busy. But this place is the best sushi you will get in Sacramento/Placer county! I, honestly, think the sushi and sashimi are better than Kru. The fish is so tender, buttery, and will melt in your mouth. The appetizers and rolls are SUPER yummy, with good flavor combinations. And the sushi chefs, servers, and staff are friendly and professional. They really know their fish, and are happy to explain the different cuts to you. They treat their customers well, and as a result, it is obvious that they get a lot of regulars. The one down side is that they don't take reservations, and depending on the day, it can be a long wait to be seated. So, I recommend that you don't come starving. But they are good about taking down your phone number and calling you when a table is ready. When it is a long wait, we usually go to the brewery across the street to hang out, and that works well for us. The ambiance is casual, so if you are looking for a fancy dining experience, this might not be the place for you. But the food is first rate! I highly recommend! read more

My husband and I stopped by Tangs Sushi a few nights ago for dinner. We ordered the edamame, a scallop special, and a few rolls. The edamame and scallops were both full of flavor and definitely stood out. The rolls were good, but for us they felt like they were missing a little punch compared to some of the other items. We do love this spot and have had great experiences here before, so it may have just been the rolls we chose this time. We will definitely be back to try more! read more

Made our way back to Tang's after being AWOL for a few years. In that time, a handful of spots have closed and just as many new sushi restaurants have popped up in this growing little pocket of Placer County. We've tried several. Some were good. But walking back into Tang's felt like coming home. The welcome at the door is warmer. The service is polished yet inviting. And the sushi? Simply better, across the board. We ordered the large sashimi combo, which included Bluefin tuna from Spain, and it may have been one of the best sashimi platters we've had in all our sushi-eating years. Tang's is a sushi restaurant that I visited numerous times for many years. However it had been a few years since my last visit and hubby had never dined here. My last review was 3 stars and this review is 3 stars again. Hubby ordered the bento box for a whopping $27! Crazy high price for a normal, nothing special bento box. I had a bite of his salmon teriyaki, and it was tasty, but didn't warrant this high price! I ordered the 3 piece BBQ white tuna. Nowhere on the menu does it say the BBQ sauce is a spicy chili sauce. I wasn't expecting that and could not eat much of it due to the sauce. Service is good, and the passing by sushi rolls to other tables looked good. I remember seeing Tang's always popping up on my Yelp with great reviews and delicious looking photos, but when I came in to dine with a group, I was sorely disappointed. The sushi rice had such a gummy texture that it felt similar to the Snowfox pre-packaged sushi sold in grocery stores. We also ordered a sashimi plate to share and the maguro felt highly questionable. The texture felt too soft and gummy, it lacked the bite and body of a normal maguro. The taste of it was also very fishy as well. Based off photos and other reviews on their omakase platter, I'm going to believe that Tang's does their experimental/seared/saucey/Americanized items quite well. But I wouldn't recommend Tang's to someone looking for sushi with delicate flavors and authentic techniques that enhance the natural flavor of the fish. read more

The food and service were both incredible--this is officially one of my new favorite sushi spots. We started with the spicy edamame, and it tasted so fresh and flavorful. Then we tried the MJ Roll and the Hawaiian roll, and that pineapple in the Hawaiian... wow, it made the whole dish. For drinks, we had the Mango Tango sake cocktail and a sake jello shot (not sure what it was called), and both were amazing. Everything just hit. And the service? Just as good. So the meal was $27 which is highest price for a Bento box dinner in any Roseville Japanese restaurant I've eaten in so far. I've eaten at ten others around town. Flavors, textures, plate appearance is all acceptable. Pretty much average for any Japanese American restaurant in this price category. I ate all the food placed before me. It was generous potions to satisfy my normal ravenous appetite. Is this my favorite Japanese restaurant in Roseville? No. I like the food, table service and dining rooms at Azayaka (over by Costco on Galleria) and ITS Sushi on Junction Blvd a WHOLE lot more. SCAMMED US -- We've been coming to Tang's for years. Solid sushi spot. Huge downside is the long wait and first-come, first-serve system. Because of that, we ordered our sushi to-go. My husband went in to pick up our order and decided to ask for a sake recommendation. After a few options were shared, the hostess recommended Tozai Living Jewel sake. My husband agreed to buy it, and she said "oh, it is $80! Are you sure?" My husband agreed, thinking it must be good sake. After we got home, I decided to look up the sake and found it is $18. I understand up-charging for selling alcohol at your restaurant, but this seems pretty unethical. I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and double-checked our receipt (maybe we misheard $80 and they said $18?) but it was in fact $85 they charged us for this $18 sake. I'm very disappointed. Now people are crowding the small waiting area inside (110F out). We started with a cold drink, the Hana Awaka sparkling sake served in a bucket of ice. Perfect for this afternoon. Decided to get 4 items from the appetizer menu. 1. Lobster Chips. First time having this. Impressed at the ingenuity of the fusion of the crunchy chips with the lobster balls. 2. Brodie's Triple Stack. Another first for us. Tuna, salmon and yellowtail piled over spicy crab. 3. BBQ Tuna. 5 pcs for $20. Large morsels of albacore but sadly lacked flavor. Not the best BBQ Tuna we've had. 4. Hamachi Kama. Another large portion. This dish was fried instead of the grilled collars we've had. Decent. Our last dish was the popular Blue Oaks Roll. It wasn't bad, but it didn't really make an impression. At least we've ticked Tang's Sushi off our Roseville list. Probably won't be back. Pros. One-off dishes Cons. I just can't say enough about Tangs! They consistently hit the mark in both food and service. They literally never miss. Obviously you have to get the chips! Just be careful not to get too full because they are so good! The scallop shooter is a perfect way to kick off your night. Then you absolutely must get the pepperfin!! I don't know wear they get their fish but oh my goodness it is fresh and just melts in your mouth. We love the Fendi roll and get it every time. We tried the Blossom two which is new favorite of mine so much flavor and texture. Bryan was our server that night he was accommodating, friendly, and fun! Service was a 10/10!! I have noticed the quality of food and service has gone down. The rolls come with lots of mayonnase based sauce. One thing I used to love about Tang's is that they do not put too much sauce to mask the freshness of raw fish. Now that is not the case. The appetizer calamari has gone down hill as well. Their pieces are smaller and the quality is not the same. It has very wierd texture now. Even the service was not that good last time. They barely checked on us, and when they did, they forgot to bring the stuff we asked for. There were no soy sauce on the table, and we had to get up and ask for a fork twice for my kid. All the things we should not have to ask for. It is unfortunate to see my favorite place this way. It is still a better place than other sushi places around. My brother in law raved about this place so naturally we had to have a family dinner here. They showed up at opening on a Saturday and there was already a line! We had a big party of 6 adults and 3 kids, and it's not the biggest place inside so we weren't seated until an hour later. Everything on the menu looked great, but we left it mostly up to our waiter and the sushi chefs. You can order a "board" and basically you get a selection of items (omakase style pretty much) of sashimi and various other bites. I love that they make enough so each person gets to try every single thing too. I couldn't even name every single thing we got, but our awesome server did. He went through everything in detail when it came out, so impressive. I wish I remembered his name, it was the best service! Every single thing we ate was delicious. The fun thing about omakase is you can try stuff you probably wouldn't normally get. We had some kind of creamy oyster dish and that was so good! But my top favorites would go to the creamy scallop spoon, lobster chips, brodies (the one with lemon), the tuna on Hawaiian rolls, the blossom balls...like I said, EVERYTHING was good! The quality of the fish is perfect too. My favorite roll was the Keto Roll because of the jalapeño, but I also liked the garlic sauce on the Hawaiian Roll. I just need a happy combo of those two rolls! I'm salivating just thinking about this meal again. It's a far drive for us but totally worth it. Definitely next level sushi even though the interior may seem outdated and casual, but don't underestimate it!
