We've eaten at Izumi many times over several years & I felt it was time to share a review. Generally bento boxes are our favorites with the occasional bowl of udon; for me the vegetable udon is just delicious. Service here is excellent; never have we had to wait wondering if someone will take our order as he is always there when the menus close. The food is timely & always very good. We have tried several other Japanese restaurants in the area but Izumi remains our favorite. I just have one ask for the owner and that is to make a portion of agedashi tofu available for the bento box menu. read more

We were happened in the area last summer and kiddo wanted some sushi. We arrived during lunch time on Saturday and were seated immediately. Our kiddo wanted to sit at the bar facing the river with boats. The weekend special was very affordable: 3 rolls for $33. The rolls were big and the fish slices were thick. - California Roll: good flavor but I preferred to have thinner rice layer. - 5 Star Roll: delicious. The sashimi pieces weren't fishy and the shrimp tempura was crispy. The sauce was good - not too much. - Dragon Roll: my favorite. The unagi and shrimp tempura are my favorite combo in a roll. So sad to write this! My wife and I have been eating here for over 20 yrs. The last 2 times the food wasn't great at all. She had the Bento box with chicken and shrimp tempura. I had the Oyako Donburi. Her chicken was super dry and all her tempura was way over cooked. My meal just didn't taste good at all with a funny brown sauce. We miss the old owner (Jimmy) The sushi was however very good and fresh! Probably won't be going back, with today's prices you have to get a good meal! read more

I was in Roseville for a basketball tournament and I have been wanting to try sushi at this establishment. Ambiance It is located in a strip mall, it is dated. It has a sushi carousel turning however there was no food on it. This place has been here for a long time. Customer Service It was excellent waiter shared some of the popular favorites. It is official. Yours truly is a cooked Sushi Junkie. And this place has a section with a whole lot of choices in it. I chose the Tiger Roll. And I was glad I did. Inside the roll was yummy shrimp tempura and imitation crab mix. Outside the roll was cooked eel, what is called in Japanese as Unagi. I like the taste of eel. It tasted delicious with soy sauce on it. Of course like most sushi rolls it was topped with vibrant orange colored Tobiko for crunchy taste. They had spiked up the presentation by add in shredded imitation crab on top. The service was polite and professional. It is definitely a tidy place for a quick lunch. Came for dinner with my 8 year old on a daddy daughter date. The place was a bit messy with boxes and supplies stored on half of the bar area. Didn't give it an upscale atmosphere. They do have boats circling the bar area which was pretty cool. Been trying to find a place that has this feature for a while. The rolls we ordered were very good. my favorite place to go the rolls are on the good side. The fish is always fresh. The staff very professional and very kind and inviting so many different plates to order. I travel for work and usually bring my food on the road with me. I don't after stay in the same hotel two days in a row but I diss this week and I'm soo glad I did. I saw the paper menu in the lobby of the hotel I'm staying in and talked myself into Sushi my last night in town. I called in a pick up order to take to the hotel, Chirashi and Seaweed Salad. Carrying it back to the room I couldn't help but be stocked at the heft of my dinner. The salad was a portion for 2+ and it was perfect. Great mouth feel, cut well, and dressed perfectly. The Chirashi bowl.... OMG!! The fish was fresh and colorful and freaking impressive. The tomago was sweet and perfectly cooked. The size of the sashimi would make Morimoto-San proud! They have a small footprint but make good use of their space with bar and table options. We ate a bunch of dishes from Izumi's happy hour which had great pricing for each plate. Everything tasted standard with nothing sticking out. Service was quick and the waiter was friendly. Our tea never ran dry. After at least 50 visits fo Izumi, I just had to update my review. They still have the best tempura I've ever had plus the included miso soup is excellent. I usually order the tempura shrimp combo bento box and it's perfect for lunch. Upon entering, Vince shows us to a table of our choice and tea or water quickly arrive. Their rolls are also excellent. Plus, they do a lot of take out service. So, excellent food, service, easy parking and a the restaurant is attractive and clean too. Love the boats in water that constantly circle with wasabi, ginger and all the spices. I've sailed into Okinawa and Yokahama and Izumi's food is as good as found there. read more

Ordered two dishes. Teriyaki chicken and beef.. $40 total. Small white rice, very small salad, 3 tempora: 1 very small shrimp, 2 carrot stick. Both the chicken and beef portions were about 10 one inch pieces with little teriyaki sauce. This was close to the very bottom of food and items. Must of costs in actual dollars around $5 NOT $40. The sushi itself was not better than the sushi that I've gotten previously from Safeway. bland not really any flavor mostly rice very little fish. so tonight, unfortunately was a waste of our time and money, not palatable at all. I had a GrubHub credit from work and was in the mood for sushi. There aren't a ton of places on GrubHub in the area and Izumi showed up with reasonable reviews so I thought I would give them a shot. Before I ordered they estimated it would be ready in 10-20 minutes but immediately after ordering I received a text that it would be 20-30 minutes. No problem. I figured I would wait 10 minutes to leave since it's just over 10 minutes away. As I jumped in my car, 10 minutes after ordering, I received a text saying my food was ready. Ugh. When I got there (Sunday around 5:30pm) there was only one seated table which wasn't super confidence inspiring. I got home and my order was accurate (Godzilla roll, Philadelphia roll, and some Avo-kyu rolls). Interesting there was also a butterflied cooked shrimp and a pile of imitation crab. Interesting but no complaints about extra proteins. The rolls are very large, something we read in their reviews. I started eating the Philadelphia roll first and found it very bland. I think it was some combo of the rice being totally unflavored and the salmon maybe not being super fresh. Hoping for more excitement on my palette, I moved to my Godzilla roll that had a couple sauces on it. Sadly, the bland theme continued. I wonder if part of the problem is they make very large rolls which means more rice and since the rice is bland the roll becomes bland? I also don't think the fish was as fresh as it could/should be but with only one seated table I suppose they're not flying through their fish supply. Anyhow, it was edible but there are so many sushi options in the area (and even at a similar price) that I don't have a reason to go back. Would I recommend trying it? Probably not.
