I found him again! Yay. My favorite hair stylist ever in D.C. - Mustafa Corumlu - recently joined the team at TOKA Salon. He would be too modest to say anything, but Mustafa does the hair for many celebrities in The District (television anchors, et al.). He is the sort of professional who is so confident that he doesn't "faff about," as the Brits would say. His cuts are superb - worth every penny. Also, the salon in Georgetown is beautiful. It's bright and airy. Everyone is friendly and in good spirits. The woman who shampooed my hair was a good massager as well. Can't wait to go back! read more

Love this salon, and the big treasure for my money was Bill, the makeup artist. He is a genius, and he teaches you to apply the makeup you buy from him. I also enjoyed my haircut by Gazi, and a shampoo with Rose. I had been to this place years before and felt it was overpriced, but it is now more reasonable. And frankly, I consider it a bargain compared to some of the other overpriced places in Georgetown. I don't know if it is under new management or they just are rethinking things, but it's delightful and I'm so happy to have found it. read more

Nuri and John, this review is past due! You and your team of artists are amazing. John is an amazing artist, he started his passion over twenty years ago in Istanbul transforming hair keeping up with the latest trends in the fashion and beauty industry. Sara Lord Beauty consultant is a master in highlights, haircuts, and wigs. ( she can found on Instagram Saralordbeautyconsultant). Every time I walk into Toka salon, the staff are so welcoming and professional! I have been going to Madi for over 10 years now, and she has transformed my locks from my natural brown to platinum then black, and ultimately back to barbie! She's amazing and I always have a great experience when I come here! I get many compliments even from strangers. There are so many great stylist and artists at Toka salon. I have had other services done including manicure, hair treatment, blowdry, and make up done a handful of times, with each experience being pampered to the fullest! Keep up the great work everyone, you are all amazing! read more

Toka Salon - Day Spas Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

See all

I came to visit my parents in DC post-COVID lockdown, and my Mom said, "You need to see Michael for a haircut...NOW!" I had never been to Michael before, and I had NO IDEA my hair could look this good! From the time I walked into Toka Salon in Georgetown, I was treated like a visiting celebrity...and I walked out LOOKING like one! Merci, Michael! read more

Toka Salon - Michael cut and styled my hair...and I LOVE it!!! - Day Spas Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

This may be the second review because I couldn't find the first one, but it demands to be said more than once that if you're looking for a great colorist, look no further than Lisa DeGiacomo at Toka Salon. She truly is a master at her art & watching her work is like watching a master at a canvas. Her talent for mixing color & artfully applying it is outstanding. Highly recommend! She seriously is the best & I've had colorists all over the city. Look no further! read more

I had a gift certificate for a haircut & blowout, and had some old highlights I was on the fence about covering/re-doing. Nuri, the hairstylist, was kind of rude about my hair and called it extremely greasy, showed the hairbrush he used to several other people, and said he could see my bad highlights from a mile away. I thought that was unprofessional and hurt my feelings. I know my hair isn't great- that's why I'm at your salon! I decided to only cover them up ($125 for single process) and he dyed my hair jet-black, which looks weird. I have very dark brown hair but the color he chose looks odd on me. He was also not gentle at all and the entire time he was dying my hair he was pulling my hair really hard, even though I repeatedly said "ow." He also kept saying how annoyingly thick and tangly my hair was. The wash was good. The man who did my cut was very abrupt and also not gentle at all. Considering the value of the 'cut and blowout' was $150, definitely not worth it. He very quickly chopped off 4 inches without checking with me and then blow dried it. Literally just a trim and a very rough dry- no stylish, just blew it dry. Also, the receptionist kept taking her mask off. Overall, it was a fine experience and at least I got my split ends taken care of. Also, they only accept tips in cash- they do have an ATM on site. The salon itself is very attractive. read more

John Can-Yurt has been doing my color for the past 18 months. I have been highlighting my hair for 40+ years and never have I been consistently happy every time I leave a salon. He is a true artist and does amazing work! read more

I made an appointment with one of their experienced colorists Michael yet he wanted his 20 year old assistant to highlight my hair because he was running late. I had to repeatedly tell him I did not want his asst coloring my hair. In the end he did my color but it was not the color I asked for. I will not be returning. They charge you extra for a blowdry which I find ludicrous, why would I walk out the salon with wet hair? That's just a scam to make you spend more money. Every salon I go to a blowdry is included with the cost of a haircut or color. They won't put tips on the credit card yet don't tell you this when you make the appointment. read more

Kate is an amazing colorist and hair stylist...truly an artist. I have been seeing her since she worked at Watergate Salon (which she was too good for) now almost three years. After frightening experiences at other salons in DC, I won't go to anyone else. She always gives me a natural look and now I hardly have to say anything for her to know just what I want. She is also a lot of fun to talk to and I can feel very relaxed. Nadia who I also know from Watergate is great for waxing. The salon's staff is very friendly too and attentive. My only request is that they serve cappuccino, something other salons provide. I guess I'm a little spoiled! read more

After a most disastrous razor-cut experience, I had just about lost faith with salons in the DMV. I used to travel back to my home state salon to see my stylist cringe when arrived in tears trying to get her to fix what I had just paid to have 'done' here. I thought I was doomed to a life of traveling in order to get a proper haircut as it was impossible to find someone who understood the asymmetrical styles that I look great wearing. The styling gods must have smiled on me the day I read about Nuri and Toka Salon in a magazine. Taking a chance to see if he had an opening, I lucked out. He took the time to listen and thoroughly evaluate my situation. Over time we worked to resuscitate my look and now together we create and cultivate the styles that I love. I have found that Nuri likes to step out of the 'traditional look' box when he has a client who wants to do something different and unique. There are many great stylists at the salon, so the good work doesn't stop with Nuri. The salon team also includes a fabulous masseuse and awesome esthetician who do wonders to soothe and rejuvenate. There is a large selection of products for everyone to find something they may need, as well as a nail and cosmetic services. Nuri's brother is an awesome colorist. My Loreal professional color and highlights always look naturally amazing and smell nice too. On a recent trip home, my former stylist gave Nuri and the Toka Salon team kudos for their work. That sentiment is echoed almost daily when I get compliments on my look while I'm out and about. I love how I look and couldn't be happier with our now five-year long relationship. Thanks everyone for helping me look my best! read more

This is regarding the facial and treatments that Linda does at Toka. Linda used to work at Tara salon in Georgetown before as well and I can say, she is by far the cleanest, best and most through facialist I have gone to in the area. She is so great that even if you want to do something extra and she doesn't think you need it she will say so (which others would never do since they want to get the extra buck). I can not recommend her enough. UPDATE: Linda is in their Georgetown salon not this one. read more

There is a huge difference between an ordinary haircut and great haircut -- it's the same noticeable difference between an off-the-rack suit and a custom tailored suit. Without a doubt, when I'm in Washington, DC, I'm sure to stop into Toka Salon in Georgetown for a great haircut. I've been a customer of Toka for years. The haircuts I receive are consistently outstanding, the staff are warm and friendly, and I'm always handled expediently, which is important to me because I'm usually on a tight schedule. Nuri is my usual go-to person, but when he isn't there I've never been anything less than fully pleased by his team. I've referred several male and female friends to Toka over the years. Their experiences have always mirrored mine. read more

I just don't understand the non-stellar ratings... As a public affairs professional in my mid 40's, I neeed to look a certain part but want to keep a hip, youthful look. Nuri & Sezgi are as good as it gets. Short hair is hard to keep feminine; I'm a girl! Nuri has the talent to keep me looking feminine, in style and young. The entire expeiene is good - with many post appointment compliments. I can't imagine going anywhere else. What's better than and evening of good hair, wine and being treated like a princess? Enjoy every minute of the experience! read more

This review is for Ury, whom I have been going to see for many years. He is a treasure among hairdressers, who really listens to what you want and who will take into account your hair texture and face and give you an honest evaluation about what will work best for you. He is creative and will make suggestions but there is no pressure and no ego, so the whole experience is very relaxing. I have fine Scandinavian type hair, which can have a tendency to look a bit flat. However, with the techniques Ury uses, my hair winds up looking full and healthy and with a great style. Even though the salon is rather expensive, I always joke with Ury that it is the cheapest face lift in town, because I always go away looking 10 years younger! read more

My "hair girl" just moved to work at this salon. Apparently the main man here cuts the first ladies and daughters hair. When I was there some White House big wig came in to get her hair done. So if you want to get your hair cut, and republican watch at the same time this is the place to go. read more

I came here initially with a coupon and a good review in the Washingtonian, but after a few visits have decided it's really not worth the money. Not to say that I have gotten a bad cut here, but I've just not been impressed commensurate with the price. The stylist I saw (who's not the most expensive one) is $100 a cut, plus tip but my cuts have been boring. Looking around the salon, it seems mainly Capitol Hill, lobbyist or tv journalist types, hardly edgy. I would say this place caters mostly to middle-aged yuppie or professional types. read more

Nuri is a talented stylist but not very communicative. I ended up paying $275 for highlights because he didn't explain to me beforehand that he wanted to do a single process as well. Had I known he was doing a single process I would have just stuck with that as I was in no mood to pay twice as much for color as I has budgeted. Although Nuri does good work I won't go back. read more

This review is for Nadia, who does the waxing at Toka. I followed her here from the Watergate because she really is very good and I highly recommend her. I can't speak to other services at the salon as I only go there for Nadia. read more

I came here to have my eyebrows done with Yuna, she's very gentle and talented. She consulted the suitable eyebrow shapes with me only specified for my face frame. Yuna took her time very carefully to wax and tweezing most of the line the first time to make sure she slowed the process down so that I felt comfortable. I loved the final look of my eyebrows. I'm so confident in her abilities and will definitely come back again. Everyone should give her a try. read more

Just visited Toka for the first time yesterday - followed my favorite esthetician Karina from Aveda - and wow! What a pretty, bright place - such a welcome change. And she works with the Glo Therapuetics line of facial products which are totally free of dyes, fragrances, gluten, nuts, and soy. Go see her stat! read more

So it had been a little over a year since I had gotten a haircut. Reason being my old stylist slaughtered my curly hair. The whole experience left me never wanting to enter a salon ever again. I was going to a wedding and a girlfriend of mine told me about her stylist, Kate. She told me that she was amazing. Well my girlfriend has curly hair as well and whenever I see her, her hair looks fantastic. I decided to take a chance, and made an appointment. When I meet Kate I told her what had happened........hell she looked at my hair and felt my pain. After my cut and blow dry.........I couldn't believe my eyes. My hair looked amazing! I felt so pretty. I ran my hand through my hair and it felt so soft and silky. My blow dry lasted for days, and the best part was I received so many great compliments on my hair. So glad I found Kate, and can't wait to see her again. read more

I went to Kate for cut, color, and keratin treatments several times over the last several years, and she is phenomenal. I recently moved away from DC so I've had to find someone new to do my hair and it has made me miss Kate! Hoping that I find someone as good in my new city, but I will definitely be returning to Kate if I'm ever back in DC. Also, Rosie is the best shampoo-er I've ever had. That's not something I usually think about when trying to pick a salon, but definitely an important part of the salon experience! read more

For the absolute best wax in DC, go see NADIA at Toka Salon in Georgetown. I have been seeing her for years and she is absolutely amazing - no pain, and no fuss. You are in and out in under 30 minutes. I followed her from the Watergate Salon and I will follow her to the end of the earth if I have to. It is the least painful wax I have ever had in my life - and trust when I say, I have had some brutal ones. She will put you right at ease, and is as nice as can be. I have also had my hair highlighted at Toka only once, but it was a great experience and I looked phenomenal. I can't remember my stylist's name, but everyone there is very professional and I'm sure do a wonderful job. I usually color my own hair to save money and time, but occasionally I like to splurge on myself ("Treat yo self") and Toka is the place to do it! And as for Nessy M., who claims she a bad experience because the stylist braided her hair and cut it short - I feel bad for you, but you should have known that when you mention donating your hair to "Locks of Love," more than just a few inches will be cut off. And thanks for giving such an honest review - you don't even mention this fact! I can only deduce that when the stylist "braided" you're hair, that's what you were asking for. Hello? A stylist isn't just going to cut your hair freely and shove it in a bag. They'll either use a rubber band and cut it or BRAID it and then cut it. You should try the Jessica Simpson clip-ins if you're really that upset. Nonetheless, it is a very professional salon - especially the waxing! Thank you, Nadia!!! read more

I've been going to Toka salon for almost 10 years now. I always go to see Gazi for my haircut, and recently some ombré. He's always done such an amazing job with my hair. I like my haircuts to really do something for me but also stay easy to manage. He somehow manages to do both. He is a very nice guy and even if you're sometimes unsure where's he going, you'll love the haircut. He also does an amazing blow dry! read more

The facialist, Linda, is super nice and pleasant to talk to, but I broke out for 3 days afterwards. My face was a mess. I will not go back.

I went in here the other day to get a specific Phyto product. While I cannot speak for the services, I can say that the front desk staff was rude and unhelpful. The two ladies at the front desk barely acknowledged my presence and when they finally did they were not knowledgable about the products. For me, it was a terrible first impression and I would not return for services based on this experience. Needless to say, I will be sticking to Sephora for my Phyto product needs. read more

I would highly, highly recommend Linda for facials, massages, waxing, etc. She is fantastic and definitely one of the better professionals in the area. Linda's facials are tailored to your needs, instead of cookie cutter like others I have had at other top salons. Her massages are fantastic. Linda would never recommend a service that I do not need, and always gives honest opinions about products and services, and she is very knowledgeable about both. The bottom line is that Linda cares about her clients - and it shows. I would not necessarily recommend the salon, as such, at least in terms of the front desk receptionists. I have been going to this salon for years and every time I call it seems to be quite an ordeal. I usually have to spell my name (simple and short) several times so my profile can be searched in the computer. No one ever remembers that I have been to this salon - ever. Several times there have been mix-ups with appointments. The main thing that bothers me is that every time I come here I spend $100+ and no one seems to care. If I call and try to get an appointment, there is never an effort to work people in, or to help get a date and time that would actually work. Today, I called and indicated I was looking for an appt. for a specific date for X service. I was then asked if I could be called back. I was about to leave the office for the day, but decided to stay to get my call back. I inquired how long it would be, and I was told 5 to 10 minutes. It was in fact that amount of time. Then, I was asked to repeat everything again -- which I am used to, for the reasons mentioned above. The receptionist acted like she was doing me a huge favor by calling me back, when in reality I had put down a piece of work and otherwise interrupted my day twice just to try to get an appointment. I also could not get an appt. within 4 days of the date I was calling about (even though I am calling a week in advance), understandably because someone was out, but unfortunately, did not fit my schedule (not that anyone cared). I thought I was the customer? With Toka, you would never know it. read more

Went to Toka after reading rave reviews of Nuri Yurt's haircutting and coloring skills. They are all true. He is a master of his craft, and actually looks at you before beginning, so that what you end up with, you will love. It is impressive (and unusual) that he does most things himself, not delegating much to assistants. The salon does attract women who appear to live by the maxim that you can never be too thin or too rich, and services are expensive. However in this life you get what you pay for. I'll save up for next time. read more

I bought a coupon on Gilt City for a cut and blow out and I have never had such an awful, uncomfortable experience at a salon in my life. I will never, ever go back here. The guy who cut my hair barely said two words to me except to tell me how damaged my hair was (yes, thank you, that's why I'm here getting a cut) and grunt a few times. He sped through the haircut and then disappeared and never asked if I liked what he had done (i didn't) or if I wanted more taken off (i did) and I never saw him again. A nice girl dried my hair but the coupon was also for a "blow out" which I thought would include some sort of styling but honestly I just wanted to get out of there so badly - as soon as my hair was dry I threw some tip money at them and ran. If you bought the Gilt coupon I would say its not worth it, don't bother going here, this place is just terrible. I got a crappy haircut, no blowout and I don't think I saved any money. oh and I was by far the youngest person there by about 40 years which I think is also very telling. read more

I go to Linda for eyebrow waxes and facials and she is absolutely superb. A good friend of mine has been a client of her for a few years now (apparently she worked at Tara Salon in Georgetown before) and recommended her to me. I've absolutely become a fan. I took my horribly butchered and uneven eyebrows to her, explained to her all my concerns (and she listened very patiently!) and proposed a solution on how to fix them. She checks with you before waxes off any hair to make sure you're okay with it, so there are no surprises when you're done and look up into the mirror to see half your eyebrows chopped off. She always takes her time (I hate it when people rush) and I've always walked out of there very happy with my eyebrows. As for her facials, I noticed the first time I went to get my eyebrows waxed that they had Murad products all over the place. I had just started using Murad's acne line at home for my oily and pimple-y skin and was intrigued...I made sure to schedule a facial with Linda and sure enough, she used Murad's acne line on my skin. One of the best qualities about her is that she is very very honest and upfront and will tell you what your skin (or eyebrows) requires and what it doesn't require. She won't push products or extra services on you (even when I asked, she very honestly said that my skin didn't need it). Anyways the facial itself was great...very relaxing (I napped!) and she did a very through job with my skin. Very careful and precise extractions, very through cleaning, gentle massage on my neck/shoulders/back and the whole time she answered my questions about my skin and offered advice and tips. She's basically become my go-to person now. read more
